And then going through the film Aliens and working out how many are dispatched at various points in the film (confirmed one screen kills vs presumed kills off screen could be done). It would be interesting to know how many were left at the final time Ripley went into the hive. Surely by that time there wouldn’t be a huge number left. After the battle in the hive, the sentry guns, the battle for ops and the subsequent kills surely it would be a handful?

Aliens Colonial Marines got a lot of flack, but I had a blast with the Hadley's Hope levels which were amazingly recreated. The Tribute level in Bug Hunt was a fantastic recreation of the colony, & is really fun playing as the movie characters.
i like the way it was portrayed in the Aliens novelization as well as the River of Pain novel. it feels like there are still stories to be told out of it. if we go by both stories the number of xenomorphs could be anywhere from less than 100 to over 200 being that it has been stated in those books that there was also livestock in the colony as well, and one would think they would be a prime candidate for facehugging. not all of the colonists are going to be used for facehuggers since we know that a good portion will have to have died because of combat against the xenos, plus the few who got off on the Onager and the Marines who got off on the hidden Science vessel. plus, if we go by the Aliens novelization, there are other smaller atmosphere processors that would be a great place for another colony that the Company could use for secret research, now that they know there are xenos there.
My thinking is that Hadleys Hope was simply an Alien universe version of a Vault-Tec vault from Fallout. Specifically one of the ones (most of them) that were set up simply to test on the inhabitants. Weyland-Yutani will have known something was there because they took over “the company” and would have found out about their failed retrieval mission there. So rather than try to find and bring back what lever was supposed to be there, they simply sent a load of expendable guinea pigs there to build their own testing area.
Alikens is a movie I can watch over and over. And as soon as I get my hands on that seemingly awesome game (Aliens: Colonial Marines) I'll be playing I have seen the game "movie" and it looks very good.
Hi. There is a book that features Hadley's Hope and the colonists called "river of pain". It fills in at least part of the 57 years between the 1st and 2nd films. Weyland has a science research team based there, with the teraformers. In the book they already know the planets secret beforehand - it's why this rock was chosen for teraforming. The scientists also had access to an emergency escape shuttle, accessed via their lab. Would be cool to see if there's any suggestion of this on the plans!
Re how the atmosphere processor works:: I used to work building machines called mass spectrometers. Very roughly, how one of these works is that a sample to be analysed is put in, it's then vaporised and ionised by an electric current, until the molecules present break down into fragments and component atoms, and become ionised. These are then sorted using strong magnetic and / electric fields, and the substance being analysed can be identified by it's characteristic 'fingerprint' of fragment molecules and loose atoms. The explanation given for the atmospheric processor's guts actually sounds very similar - sort of like a mass spectrometer on a titanic scale, where the used-up gas that has been sorted by the fields is not pumped away as waste, but wither stored or sent back to atmosphere, depending on whether it's part of breathable air. I'm not saying this makes the atmosphere processor a realistic device - but it does show that someone had bothered to do some homework, and put a wee drop of reality into the fiction, even though most people wouldn't notice. that's a really nice sign of how much effort they were willing to make.
I watched Aliens so many times in the past! It was one of the best sci fi movies ever made! Ahead of it time & the concept & creatures classic sci fi horror!!! Predator too! John Carpenters Thing is a classic as well! Jus imagine things you don’t want to get to the grunt of our society! We’d be doomed! We were lucky the Thing was isolated in freezing cold area!
I expect that, after completion of the main colony complex, the colony would continue to build outward, bringing in new administrative, industrial and residential modules until the entire surface of the planetoid was covered by a new ecumenopolis.
I never thought Hadley's Hope was a large place from the movie. I mean if kids get yelled at for playing in admin section you have to know it is small, kids do not play in government office space unless there is no where else to play. The large part of the station was the power plant and terraforming station. This was much like an old mining town in the western US after a mine shut down. There was stuff but it was not living area or really usable by the average person. It rather felt like one of the small towns I lived in as a kid there were 3 times the number of people as Haley's, but everyone knew everything about everyone and outsiders, like me, were very much held under suspicion. Hadley's did not have a large enough population to be viable for generational human living, 50 breeding couples might be bare minimum, but at least 500 to avoid major inbreeding, so Hadley's was only the starting point and post terraforming would likely to have become the power plant for the first actual colonists. *my thoughts*
I think 158 colonists is accurate, but there was also mention of livestock, which could also host a Xenomorph. So the possibility of more Xenomorphs is not out of the question
Maybe show some other shots of Hadley's Hope. As you mention the areas of the facility maybe insert pictures of where you are speaking. Lab, basement, and other areas.
After Prometheus and Alien Covenant I really don't see how they will connect it to the crashed engineer spaceship in Alien 1979. They should have connected those dots with Prometheus. And there is no connection to Alien after Covenant, there aren't even Engineers in that film, just another race.
Well the camera an way it's shot definitely made the colony seem like a small city... if it's so small though... Isnt there in movie dialogue when they're talking about nuking the hive that the explosion was goin to be LITERALLY MASSIVE?? If I remember right something on the order of a good sized state in blast size... if so guess nuking them from orbits not the only way to be sure after all
Sixty families could be only as many as 120 people (two person family). Add in then a couple more larger family units (like Newt's family) and lots of single people and you've got 158.
I still want to know why we never saw any Runner aliens. I know the real world answer is simply because the Runner/Dog/Ox Xenomorph wasn't introduced yet, but still, you'd think (or at least I would) that soon as the Atmosphere processor was up and running someone would start bringing in dogs.
[in "Alien"] Ash knew about the craft and was sent there on orders in Muthr. But [in "Aliens"] when Ripley was found, no one knew anymore, and then Burke sent Newts family there. Maybe he dug up old records or informed a boss who dug them up. The importance of the xenomorph to the company is cemented in Alien 3 when they show up to gather RIpley and the alien inside of her. So this knowledge was not lost when Burke died or Hadley's Hope was nuked, it was retained somewhere on earth from pre-"Alien" times.
Just imagine a game just like Alien Isolation but set on Hadley's Hope just as the outbreak starts and the colony falls to the xenomorphs and going out as Newt's parents as well.. now that game would make a ton of money!!

Remarkable piece of machinery. Completely automated. You know, we manufacture those, by the way.
Love this series!
Looking at it now it is a very rough but tuff installation. I could see people getting cabin fever in there.
Sweet ur back doing aliens and hopefully more predator stuff, this is when I originally sub’d
Well with my last name, wish the colony could have been reborn.
THE EERIE BACKGROUND MUSIC IS BACCKK 😊😊😊😍
Got to admitt Burke had one hell off a plan lol
I expect that, after completion of the main colony complex, the colony would continue to build outward, bringing in new administrative, industrial and residential modules until the entire surface of the planetoid was covered by a new ecumenopolis.
Love your Narrator's Voice Mr H
Man, you sound just like actor Colin Salmon, specifically in the Resident Evil movie.
Keep the videos coming Mr H. Love this content mate.
I remember from the novelization (which I read before I watched the movie) there were more than one atmosphere processors on the planet.
They need to make a movie about the last stand on Hadley's Hope and Newt's escape.
I’m a massive alien fan! That was enjoyable to listen to. 👍
Great video Mr.H I lm of abog fan of this type of video format you do.
Back to the topic at hand this is why I subbed
Acheron aka the river of pain in Hades. How apt.
*my thoughts*
why would anyone want to terraform such a dark, creepy place
it's named after a river in Hell
I do love your Alien videos.
I think 158 colonists is accurate, but there was also mention of livestock, which could also host a Xenomorph. So the possibility of more Xenomorphs is not out of the question
Great video.
Maybe show some other shots of Hadley's Hope. As you mention the areas of the facility maybe insert pictures of where you are speaking. Lab, basement, and other areas.
I hope they finish off the trilogy to lead up to Alien 1979 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
After Prometheus and Alien Covenant I really don't see how they will connect it to the crashed engineer spaceship in Alien 1979. They should have connected those dots with Prometheus. And there is no connection to Alien after Covenant, there aren't even Engineers in that film, just another race.
Run by the captain of Red Dwarf!!? No wonder
gazpacho soup
👌
Smeggin ell
Yep - not many people know this. Captain Hollister.
You should do more of these, back to your roots, I can’t see it but I hope the tv series is up to par,
No one watches them
If i recall correctly there was about 60-70 families noted in Aliens....thus 158 sounds about right with kids and maybe some single people too...
when's the aliens movie about what happened at hadley's hope?
Concetta Malloy or an HBO miniseries would be cool too
Awesome vid!
Well the camera an way it's shot definitely made the colony seem like a small city... if it's so small though...
Isnt there in movie dialogue when they're talking about nuking the hive that the explosion was goin to be LITERALLY MASSIVE?? If I remember right something on the order of a good sized state in blast size... if so guess nuking them from orbits not the only way to be sure after all
I truly thought there'd be more people at Hadley's hope. As Van Leuwen said, 60-70 families.
Sixty families could be only as many as 120 people (two person family). Add in then a couple more larger family units (like Newt's family) and lots of single people and you've got 158.
It would be fantastic to see if this would get made into an television program.
they could call it, Hadley's Hope. or Population 158.
I just want to know where the bar is at?
Somebody mustve bagged one of Ripley's bad guys . . .
So, the processor is basically a big fusion torch.
Yep. Then its Adios Muchachos 🌋
I think Wayland-Yutani knew of the xenomorph presence and sent those poor people to die.
Have you seen "Alien Covenant"?
The Weyland/xeno connections are more than a little convoluted 🤔
@Viscous Shear I'm not so sure it should be dismissed as being non-cannon, considering it was directed by Ridley Scott.
@@robertoneill1979
Ridley Scott really screwed up big time.
@Viscous Shear does that mean that you're suggesting that O'Bannon and Schusett were somehow involved in writing the comic stories?
