- In this interview, Karr opens up about the journey that lead him to Kensington. He talks about his early life and growing up with his mom. He also shares his opinion about recovery houses and the money they rake in. He has schizophrenia which is often tough to manage while being homeless on the streets and addicted to drugs.

I spent many nights on these streets with karr,I'm blessed I'm clean
I'm so glad you were able to make it out, Tom. That's amazing.
Yes! He perfectly summed up why the term ‘recovery’ and the industry around it is so damn toxic. I will never go to a meeting or speak any of those cliches, I just simply don’t use drugs anymore. And I’m proud. Time to figure out what makes you happy and think outside the box.
🙏
I found the interview very interesting, thank you..
In addition to the addiction, Karr apparently suffers from schizophrenia, which makes it more difficult to treat his addiction problem. He talked about one thing that I think is important and that is rarely addressed: the effectiveness of recovery, where an addict has to adapt 100 percent to the recovery process.
In my opinion, recovery treatment should also adapt to the needs of each addict. People are not all the same and do not respond the same to treatment. It seems that addicts are rarely asked what they need, but are told what they have to do.
I like Karr and wish him all the best.
@@dietrikstein1871 Well said.
The treatment that is available isn't done the right way. Many don't complete or end up relapsing. There are so many things that can be done better and make it a little less uncomfortable but no treatment centers really try and that's mostly because it's a lucrative industry. They want people to come back. There's so much stigma pertaining to addicts that most people don't care. The attitude is mostly, well just stop and get ur isht together u POS. There's many changes that can be made and it's mind blowing that no one at least addresses these things.
@@krystiangorski6201 Thank you for your comment. It confirms my suspicion that the treatment is not very much geared to the needs of the addicts. It is a shame that profit so often takes precedence over the well-being of the people.
@@krystiangorski6201 Agreed. Those are all good points. What do you think could be done differently to help with the things you mentioned?
@@krystiangorski6201Many rehabilitation centers want to see their patients succeed. I think believing otherwise is an excuse not to give it your all.
This guy speaks truth!

I really loved the way you allowed him to stop when the trains went by. He couldn’t take the loud background noise and you didn’t push him to
he's stopping bc he know's the train will drone out the interview. he's doing it for the video quality lol
Sad...young people. Don't follow this path.
🙏
I like Karr. He seems like a decent bright guy
@benjaminciotti3462 He was very decent. I hope he manages to get out of there and off the streets. Hopefully, he can get the help he needs.
He’s such a good looking chap. It’s such a shame he’s like he is
Prayers for Karr 🙏💙
Absolutely! 🙏
I totally get what he's saying. Give these people a home, proper medical care, and food in their bellies...that's all they truly need. There are many "upstanding" individuals who are addicted to the same substances found on the streets, but because they have means, no one is talking about addiction in their circles. Society's take on such things is largely insane. We need to meet these people on their own terms, and for gods sake, give them a roof over their heads, a private space they can call their own. They'll sort their addictions out from there, or not...but it's basic humanity that's needed here; not moralized preaching, not criminalizing individuals' coping mechanisms. Housing, medical treatment, and basic sustenance should be everyone's right, not a privelege.
Those are all excellent points you raise. I agree with you wholeheartedly about people not judging "upstanding" individuals. You're absolutely right!!
@@unheardvoices_official Thanks. :) I got a bit on my high horse there, and unfortunately I neglected to thank you for an excellent video. Keep up the great work in helping to humanize homelessness, it's so very important!
@witchywoman4139 Thanks so much for the kind words and for supporting the channel. It's truly appreciated. 🙏
3:08 People are making their own clouds in the sky…. That’s when I knew he has smoked way too much. Time to take a break and sober up
10:13 "I have schizophrenia" yeah it's not just the drugs all tho I'm sure they are not helping.
Kensington is hell.
For sure.
Great, interview My Friend My heart goes out too everyone in the struggle of Addiction. 💜🙏💜
@@jackiewilliams7876 Absolutely, Jackie! 🙏

I did Benzodiazepines for 3 years straight in high doses. It took 6 months to taper off that trash. Its been almost a year off of it. Ill be honest i still don't feel fully healed. Addictions is pure hell...
It really is pure hell.
first person i have ever heard saying that Kensington is beautiful....sheeesh!!
the drug demons tell him this nonsense certainly.....anyway, hope he wakes up and leaves this sh't place!!
GOD bless this poor dude in JESUS' name!
I hope he manages to get out of there, too! 🙏
He is a nice guy but nice is not going to get him clean. He's out of reality a bit.
Young fellow stop 🛑 bullshitting urself and down to getting ur life together.
Get down and start praying for ur soberity. Your heading on a bad path to destruction .
Wake up young guy and smell the coffee. Stop dreaming. I hate to be bold but you must be told. Get sober. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I hope he manages to make it out of there and gets the help he needs. You're right. Nice is definitely not going to get him clean. He has to want it.
Turn ur life to JESUS CHRIST 🙏🏾 only hope for us. He loves us ❤
This guy needs to get off that poison, its making him insane.
@SPENT77 Hopefully, he can get some help.
The insanity could have come first, and the drugs helped numb the mental illness.
@@gracejones2831 He prob self medicating
Rehab works if you want it to!! It’s a lot of work and self reflection and self discipline. His finger is a tranq wound! There’s many ways to recover.. AA/NA doesn’t work for everyone.. an the mentality that it’s the only way to stay sober is absolutely wrong!!! There’s MAT . It saves MANY lives.. I’m currently 5yrs sober and 4 months off MAT 😊
@@denabeebe1888 Congratulations on getting 5 years sober. That's amazing!!
@@unheardvoices_official thank you 😊
Thats why they've introduced Peer Advocates into treatment, ppl who advocate for those dealing with substance abuse & have been through it themselves. Experience is one of the main requirements of being a Peer advocate/Recovery coach (they call it a few different things). You'd also be surprised how many counselors have actually been there as well, they just cant share that with ppl given the guidelines of their profession.
Good points. I think the Peer Advocates can be really helpful. I think it gives the addicts themselves a better sense of hope, seeing someone who was where there are.
Set small realistic goals right now yesterdays history tomorrow is a mystery today is a gift we call the present keep the focus on yourself
Okay, someone who does not want to be clean. He trolly finds sober life boring. But at least he's honest about what he wants. His life, his choice. I feel like many addicts say they wanna get clean but don't truly mean it.😢
Agreed. I think many people say they wanna get clean, but really don't as well.
GOD BLESS YOU ❤
7:48, when he was making that joke and looking at his finger I thought “Aww, he’s still in there ❤ I hope he can make it to the surface.”
Bro high af
He needs to take care of his mental health before he can get cleaned. I hope he finds his way to inpatient care
He got lost period he has to want to change
Kensington is good place to live for drugs people and gangsters like mafia but others ok not a problem there
The kensington formulated dope is soo much better and smoother than heroine.
Its when he started talking about the clouds.... Hes cute tho!
