  • Join us on a day trip to Gozo! We jump on a City Sightseeing boat from Sliema and enjoy the beautiful views as we travel north.
Then it’s straight onto a Hop On Hop Off bus and head to Victoria. We only had 45 minutes so, sadly, we didn’t get to explore the Cittadelle but we did grab some delicious pastizzis for our lunch. Two for only 1 euro!
Back on the bus and we’re off to The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu (or in Maltese: Santwarju Bażilika tal-Madonna ta' Pinu) Utterly stunning! And it’s always great to make a new grasshopper friend!
Our final stop is the Ġgantija Archaeological Park, situated at the centre of an extraordinary archaeological landscape, the Xagħra plateau on the island of Gozo. It consists of two structures built between c.3600 and c.3200 BC. Fascinating! It’s amazing to think that these structures are even older than the Pyramids in Eqypt!
Then it’s a quick dash back to Mġarr to catch the boat back to Malta. We really enjoyed our brief time on Gozo. Did we have enough time? Definitely not. Will we return? Absolutely!

Thanks for showing us Gozo. We didn’t make it there when we visited Malta. You packed a lot into your day. Such interesting history 🙂

Yes it was a busy ol' day. We'd definitely like to return and explore Gozo a bit more thoroughly (and calmly)!

The ggantija temples are acutely one thousand years older than the pyramids in Giza,we will be in Gozo again in July thanks for sharing.

What a beautiful place. We too love a boat trip!! Oh my that water!!! We want to jump in!! The hoho bus seems a good choice. Those Pastizzi look amazing and great value! Those mosaics are amazing. Love the bus through the narrow streets. What a brilliant trip and thanks for some history along the way too. Cheers 🍻

Question. Are the time restraints so tight that only 40 minutes can spared for exploring Victoria, which seems a pity? Could you give an outline your start and finish times on the HoHo bus and would you feel 3x40 minute stops is the limit of what the circuit of the island will allow?

@ciarandoherty4579 Sadly yes, it's a rush. We caught the first boat of the day from Sliema (about 9am ish) which gets to Gozo around 10.30am. We caught the first HoHo bus possible and only managed 3 stops which was the maximum possible as we had to be back to the boat around 4pm ish. We could have easily spent a whole day just in Victoria!
Gozo is worth a few days exploration which we sadly didn't have. We'll definitely return one day.
Thanks for watching and I hope we were useful. N&Nx

Thank you so much for this helpful info. Planning to travel from Valletta to Gozo next month on the fast ferry; no timetable yet for October but if anything similar to the summer schedule, there should be return options much later than 4pm. Can you recall what time the final HoHo bus returns to Mgarr, although this may also be seasonally variable?

@ciarandoherty4579 hmmmm our memory is a bit vague on this as we were committed to the whole package times, but we think it might have been around 6pm?? We were there at Easter so the times could be very different in October.

@@grapesodatravels Thank you again for taking time to reply. The bus operator was quickly back to me so for anyone interested, until 27th October, the final bus doing the Purple loop leaves the port at 15.45. It's primary purpose is presumably to pick up only and should be back in Mgarr at about six o'clock. Our plan for the day would involve the 10.30 bus at Mgarr, a two hour+ stop in Victoria with two further shorter stops at Dwejra and Xlendi.
