A week after he completed his 8 years he got a certified letter form Amry HQ calling him up. He called and questioned the orders because he received them after his enlistment was completed. Army said that the orders were drafted and mailed before his end date on IRR. He turned himself back in to the Army and did another one year deployment to Iraq. I would have gotten a lawyer and fought that. Not only did he receive his orders after his competition of service, but the deployment put him over his service date as well.

    I served from 2014 to 2018 active with 4 years inactive thereafter. I was a conventional MM and stationed on the Nuclear aircraft carrier USS Nimitz. During my time on the USS Nimitz, I was put working with Nuclear MMs and doing the same jobs as them for the most part. That said if they offered similar incentives that Nukes received I probably would have re-enlisted. They had zero incentives for conventional MMs while Nukes would re-enlist to gain rank and get a pretty hefty bonus. I heard of them receiving close to 100,000 dollars at times. On top of all of that we worked more than most other rates, less duty sections, more time on watch, less time off the ship while in ports, etc. I feel like they should have paid us almost double what other sailors made but that is just how I saw it. They do say choose your rate choose your fate. All of that still blows my mind. They wonder why people don't re-enlist.

    They had the same IRR requirement when I enlisted in 1972. That the Navy is thinking about using the IRR tells me they're really hurting. An additional point for the lifers: I "retired" from the Marines in 1998. I was actually transferred to the Fleet Marine Corps Reserve. Upon the 30th anniversary of my enlistment (2002), I received a retirement certificate in the mail. Paragraph 3 of the admin letter that came with the certificate stated that I could be recalled to active duty without my consent. I imagine all Services are the same & am wondering if any of them are desperate enough to consider recalling retirees yet. BTW at almost 70, I think I'm safe.

    Serious question about your forces promotions. What if you work for an incompetent officer and CO who don't do your performance reports on time and you don't have enough good reports to get promoted. Do YOU get shown the door or do you have recourse? In Canada we have zero restrictions of how long you can stay in a rank and still remain active. We had Corportals with 35yrs service lol. They were just happy as a worker and did their job well. Not everyone who joins is fit to lead but they can still work with the team?

    • @bdd7881
      @bdd7881 5 месяцев назад

      up to E6 your leadership can make it harder to promote but it'll be obvious they are. However, if they're doing more minor things you can workaround it since the Navy uses exams for advancement from E4 to E5and E5 to E6. E1-E4 is (almost) automatic and long as they aren't handing you evals that say "do not promote" outright it's hard to stop you from trying to advance.

The soon dropped it after they had enough service members and recruitment to fill the gaps in those transitioning out of the Navy. If you don’t understand that fact, then you need to come out from under the rock you have been under. The contract service is bad because if a sailor had a 4 year contract may be counting on 4 years and done only to be told hold on, now you must serve 2 years of Reserves. I would be pissed if I was forced into this. The Navy needs to incentivise this process rather than forcing this policy. It adds to just one more reason to avoid the military right now!
    This warm hand off is the worst because rarely are things done for a positive reason, such as helping a struggling sailor.
    What this will end with is the command calling the new command and saying, “Stand by, we have a real shit bird coming your way.” Prior to this policy, a change of command would be a new beginning and start. Now they are legislating and making sure that “anything you have done and said really will be used against you.”
    Most leaders in our military right now are bitches, not talking about sex here. Today’s military leaders will use this to call the new command to ensure that shenanigans will continue!
    Between policies like this, reverse racism and the whole LGBTQ bullshit our military is in some bad shape. Long gone are the days of our military existing to close with and destroy our nations enemies!

      @@scarling9367 “Equal Rights…” Our military does not exist to serve as a social experiment. It exists to defend our nation from enemies foreign and domestic. Furthermore, the military has declared war on the white male and now places the minority interest beyond the majorities. The simple fact is that the state of our military has worsened because white men are no longer joining our service because they see how they are being treated. It’s not about equality otherwise the goal would be to treat “EVERYONE” the same. If you are a white male, you are no longer considered “EVERYONE,” but rather the source of holding back minorities.
      EQUAL RIGHTS means exactly what it says, “EQUALITY FOR ALL!” Today’s military does not pursue this. I am of the opinion that there should be one standard, that only increases. It should never decrease to allow admitting those who do not meet the thresholds. There should be one standard for both men and woman and if you meet that standard then you are in. These standards should be mental and physical in nature.
      As for the LGBTQ community, I have to ask, does the actions and lifestyle of this group add or subtract from our main goal of defending our nation? Does promoting transsexual’s and cross dressing have anything to do with defending our nation? The answer is “No!” Look, I don’t think anyone gives a crap about what a fellow military servicemen does in the privacy of their own bedroom, but when those actions come out of the private bedroom and detract from the primary purpose of our military, that is a problem. Our military does not exist to provide sex change treatments…
      As for treatment between sexes, our military has lost its way. We have two standards, one for each sex and that is wrong. We should have one standard based upon the need to defend our nation. You meet the standard and you are in.
      When I served in the 90’s what pissed me off more than anything was this double standard. So you had women placed in command of men that only did half the job. By half the job, I mean they had PFT goals of a mile and half run while we ran three miles. But the worst thing was that they could not be sent to combat. You could claim it was the laws but I would disagree. The vast majority could not serve as an infantry men and as a Marine, all Marines were supposed to be infantry men first. And don’t even get me started on how pregnancy or female issues were used.
      One standard for all should be the rule.

I don't know how I would fare in the new political climate in the DoD. For me, due to signing 6 years, the extra 2 years for me and my shipmates was usually optioned to drop at the 4 year mark for an additional 4 year [2+2] commitment for a bonus and career improvements like additional training. The activating of IRR is whatever, they have to activate the ready reserves first. If they are activating IRR, they pretty much would be near a draft at that point.

They divide us because they know full well they are weak, and wouldn't be able to handle a united uprising.
