It's the Reddit generation, of weak ass pick-me kids, that is complaining. They didn't get beaten enough (at all) as children, so they have no idea what it feels like to get fucked up by life, and forge through it. I'm convinced that's why (or at least a huge reason why) they're so suicidal.

He gives his opinion, then asks his viewers what they think. There's nothing to hate about his channel, except the fact that nearly everyone in the comments dogs the last two generations of weaklings harder than JT ever has, and they deserve every criticism.

    • @jericho1-4
      @jericho1-4 7 месяцев назад +10

@@OneTruePhreak GDR they deserve the criticism, And going after not just JT but every Vet who, regardless of how big their channel has gotten over YEARS of hard work just highlights most of that criticism and how right it is. And lets be honest a lot of the shade thrown at the military today isn't focused so much on the enlisted but the upper office ranks like the JCoS. I often times sympathize with the younger generation and all the BS they currently have to deal with on top of previously established BS that has been around a long damn time in the armed services. This is what a lot of Vets speak on from Jacko to JT, and all the guys in between, sure there are some who come at it differently like Nico Ortiz but the young man is funny as hell most times sand that's something that is needed. For the younger generations to get all bent out of shape because older Vets draw a comparison between their time in the service with what they are seeing now is ridiculous. They are not being shitted on they way a lot of us older Vets were by even older Vets, When I was a snot nosed 0311 back in the mid 90's there were always some older vets, not all but some, who thought we had it much easier than they did. From training to deployments, and to a degree they are right but that difference came because of changes in tactics equipment communications capability and a higher overall education for those enlisting. I also think that when the younger generation sees/hears a video or opinion by an older veteran that seems like its picking on them they should think about it from the perspective of an older brother or sister who saw this BS coming and how it affected them and their survivability while deployed. A lot of that comes from a place of anger and frustration, not focused at the newer generations currently serving but the Command apparatus cause it is inevitably going to cost American Soldier's Sailor's Airmen and Marines their lives. The older veterans saw this first hand and the last thing many of them want is to have their younger brothers and sisters in the service to go through it themselves, sure shit happens, but when a lot of the loss of life is because of incompetent command structure who are looking to save their own asses in the political meat grinder the buck needs to stop there.

We have become to value feeling over fact and truth. We coddle and enable instead of expecting people to be better and rise up to the standards. Lowering standards is retarted and makes your whole operation (civilian or military) weaker.
Son we are in a decline. Wake up and see it. Men actual red blooded men are the only thing that is going to save us. Men need to become men again and women need to become women again. Not these masculine women we have today who are of no use to themselves or anyone else.

Something NO VETERAN regardless of when they served want's to see or have happen, they are taking our displeasure with all the changes as a personal attack when in fact it's far from it. We've all lost friends as this shit was slowly and steadily creeping it's way into the armed forces. A lot of Vets see these changes and make valid comparisons to their time in the military, almost like they are trying to fight for our younger brothers and sisters in uniform as they are limited in their speech whereas we are not. Im in the 25-35 range. I watch Jameson Travels (though I dont really watch his Odins Men channel, not my speed).
My dad is a USMC SSgt Vet (most notably serving in OEF, but he served 10 years total , pre and post 9/11) and watching Jameson react is basically like watching what it would be like to see my own father making YT content.
In early 2020 I finally stopped delaying what I felt was the inevitable of continuing the family tradition of service (which my dad very much did not want for me) and started the enlistment process, had just finished taking my ASVAB and needed to have the next step scheduled by my recruiter, but then COVID became such a big deal so quickly and I was told all non-essential and non-med folks were being put on a hold so they could push essential and med folks through basic ASAP and get them going. Before, during, and after all of this I had become obsessed with getting as much military info as possible to prep for the life I was signing myself up to life for, and watching Jameson's content always kinda soothed my nerves because again, it was like watching my dad making content. I understand the perspective and humor and such (as much as a civ can) thanks to my dad, and so it was almost like I was just taking a few minutes to hang out with him.
Irl, my dad is a real funny and goofy guy, he was a stereotypical skinny nerd type before the Marines turned him into a giant (and paid for his laser eye surgery so he could stop wearing glasses lol). But when its about military stuff, he CAN be funny and goofy, but more often it flips a sort of "serious switch" and he is SSgt Dad. But Jameson is able to let me sort of simulate watching my dad talk about military stuff as my USMC Vet dad, and not as SSgt Dad, if that makes any sense.
I appreciate his content, even if I dont always agree with it or dont always understand it.
For those that care to hear what happened with my enlistment:
I ended up never finishing the enlistment process. I would call the recruiter once a month to check in and would be told the same thing, and after the third time I just stopped calling. By mid-2020 it was already a crapshow, and I wasnt liking some of the stuff I was hearing from those in service at the time with how the military was handling things, across the board. I prioritized my family over my desire for military service, and I dont regret my decision. I scratch my "desire to serve" itch just fine as an Officer serving my community, especially now that I have more responsibility as a Senior Officer and FTO.

It is true because you can see the difference between the administrations and the policy’s that goes downstream. During my tenure, i was lucky enough to see the difference between two administrations of thinking. While also seeing 3 different units way of working and three different branches way of doing things and other nations as well. I can safe to say that the boomer is right on the nail with his takes and ask the community what is their take are in the comments of his videos. So i dont know what the hate really is because the service as a whole. As for better or worse became a shit show. In my opinion and thats why recruiting and retention is so low 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was a 17 year old Marine back in 1969, Did my 3 and got out in 72. I served with the Draftees and there were a lot of tensions because of Vietnam Racism and of course Politics, Over 50,000 men died and many more were severely injured and when we came back home we were spit on and shunned. Looking back it could have been worse just check out the number of dead Marines from some of the Pacific Island Campaigns in WW2. I'd hate to hear what these newer Military people would have to say about the comments from them WW2 Vets were they still around.
Different times but We are all Marines and have a right to our own opinions. If you don't like what the man has to say don't watch his channel, Whole bunches of people saying all kinds of things on the internet that they wouldn't say to the man's face and that's my biggest complaint about the Internet.

I probably served before Jameson but I can say for sure I know his type. I'm not all judgey about my brothers, I never have been. The Corps is a very diverse place and we all have opinions, popular or not. I'm happy to give all my brothers equal space. I understand his perspective but I also think he is either ignoring or ignorant of what the Corps looks like today. It's still good to take his pulse on what he is seeing. I have an equal respect for Marines of today. Much has changed, these guys today have a much bigger mental load then I had. Things are more refined and have greater requirements. It's a different landscape. So I also like listening to the views of this channel. Our heritage dictates we pay reverence to those before and those after, and I feel it's that conversation that allows the Corps to move forward while also having those moves tempered by prior experience. The strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack. We need the discourse between old and new to remain strong. This is the way.
Edit - I also wanted to point out some stats. Of all the living current population of America only 1% have ever attempted earning the EGA. Only .8% have earned it and somewhere along the lines of .6% and .5% have completed their contract in a favorable status. So 99.5% of America either did not attempt or failed in this distinction. If you further take into account suicide rates and homeless numbers of Marine Vets we become a very very small but important minority in this country. It is vitally important we have a voice and we keep talking either amongst ourselves or in general with the public. We have provided a very real and tangible role in the success of this nation and our service needs to continue long after our contracts just to make sure we are all getting looked after when the ink is dry on the DD214. We take care of our own and we can only do that if we as a whole are not silent.

One thing in Marine culture that has almost completely eroded is the brotherhood that Marines should feel with one another. Nowadays if it is there, it’s conditional. Grunt vs POG, those that stayed fit and those that got out of shape. Tons of people in my family were Marines - my dad, uncle, my father-in-law to name a few, representing the Vietnam era, the Gulf War, the Cold War - and myself representing the GWOT. Each one of my relatives could stop anywhere and strike up a conversation with another Marine from any era, and it would always end with a clap on the back and a hearty “Semper Fi!” Now I’ll be lucky if I don’t get a disgusted sneer from an active duty grunt when I tell them I was Motor T.
Why that culture eroded is probably hotly debated, but if I had to guess it began with shitty Marines getting promoted to command and leadership roles, while each subsequent generation’s attitude gets worse and worse.
The Corps is still a powerful organization and the memory of the brotherhood is still there. It just needs to be revived somehow.

It started with Mundy and Krulak. Both of them ushered in the "every one's a winner" mentality. Drill field became a cut throat B billet. Recruiting became a career ender. SNCOs became marriage/financial counselors, life coaches, and personally responsible for the f-ups of their Marines. The "0" defect mentality (anything less than "Outstanding across the board= reenlistment/promotion denial. Shit birds became "leadership challenges" vice malcontents...and "shit birds". I watched the HQMC initiate and enforce the purging of Marines whose leadership experience threatened "B" billet commando Sr SNCOs, subpar Company grade (and field) officers, and boot lieutenants. All of this was wrapped in a package called "Total Quality Leadership", a novel idea created in university business courses that promoted a "One doesn't have to know the job, just be able to manage those that do (and take the credit)...always aware that your subordinates are out to screw you, and they must be tightly controlled". The military now gets what they want....no credible leadership and "woke" weakness.

I did over two decades in the Army Infantry. It doesn't matter if you did four years or 40; if you received an Honorable discharge after fulfilling your commitment and doing your job to the best of your ability, you're entitled to share your opinion. If I'm not mistaken, Jameson Travels has mentioned being married to an Army officer, who may have recently retired. He seems fairly private about his personal life otherwise, which is respectful, but given his age and commentary, I'd venture to say his wife made it to at least battalion-level command, and he's been around the military far longer than a typical single enlistment Service Member has.
He has a target demographic, probably vets my age and older (mid-40s), and he has an obvious bias but always spins things into rhetorical questions. His persona comes across to me as someone who plays the part of an enlightened ignorant person, wanting to further understand current trends and military leadership, while already having his own opinions.
With RUclipsrs, there are definitely tiers for Vets: you have the Vet Bros like Nikko Ortiz, who emulates TikTokers and [probably] appeals to younger audiences, self-depreciating people like Matt Best from BRCC, who went from Ranger to successful businessman yet is still capable of having some fun and being goofy, men like MrBallen who was a SEAL and changed his formula when he got a lot of heat for initially focusing on his own combat service, and of course your channel, which I kind of consider to be similar to Jameson Travels in terms of layout and subject matter, though catering to a younger demographic (as you stated).

I'll tell you this if you ask a boomer vet about stress card most will rant about how the military are soft and Yada Yada Yada. When in reality the stress cards never existed in boot / basic. But they all believe a lie the was and still is being profitable. That's my issue with channels like his. In my take, when you push a false narrative knowing full well it's false, it no longer becomes opinion and is in reality propaganda. And alot of what boomers watch are propaganda. Because it's tuned in to their hate of change. Boomers love the past because it was easier for them and hate change. And Gen x/y are nostalgic of the past but have managed to adapt to current times as the world changed so fast in such a short time when they grew up. Those who deny valuable knowledge and experience from those that came before them are doomed to repeat mistakes that could’ve easily been prevented.

@@Tragicide well said. I’ve been turn with this in my life, but this is reassuring! So I guess I will continue to provide my insight with my young sailors.

spent 10 months getting in shape with the intentions of enlisting.
Went to speak to a local recruiter and was met with a man pretending to be a woman.
Decided to keep my back & knees intact. 🤷‍♂

It seems like a classic case of a large clique within the New Guard hating a prominent and vocal member of the Old Guard.
I see it happen all the time, even outside of the military.

I'm not in the military, I've never been in the military, but getting this from Reddit is kinda not credible. Most people from Reddit also don't know what they're talking about. But that's my opinion. Idk how to view Jameson Travels. I find him reasonably entertaining.
But I don't use him as a source. I don't really find him credible anyway. This is my POV. I find you, Task and Purpose, and Nikko Ortiz more credible than Jameson.

Agreed! I find him entertaining; however, I believe he's no different than the sheep who uses anything "woke" for views and such. i.e. His vid about,.."tell me the Marine Corps aint this bad". He makes a general video about them pogs, as if they are indicative of the majority of the Marine Corps, and they are not. I subscribe to a slew of military channels, that have showcased vids about Marine Corps readiness (in the past 2 months or so alone ), but he chose that video instead. Whatever for views right.....

No point in being a hater. He's old and he's crotchety. And guess what? Someday YOU will be old and crotchety. He just has the old and crotchety vet perspective. One that's been a thing since the end of the very first war. If you're a vet you're heading down that path. The alternative is pushing grass by the roots. As for knowledge, I spent 27 years in the Army, officer AND enlisted. Even at the height of my career I never knew everything there was to know. Almost a decade out, I damn well know less. Even a 40 year 4 star general doesn't now _everything._ It is what it is. Watch or don't watch as it pleases you.

Uh yes Nicky it sucks. BUT I made my own stolen valor video which actually got a good 5,800 views but I took it down because I felt I was being a mocking prick so I removed it. If people want to entertained by opinions on someone else's inappropriate behavior instead of halfway decent DIY content. Fine. But I'm NOT going to be an attention seeking jerk to get more views or subscribers 🤔

The stress cards were the army, as a former marine and retired navy I had had multiple army people tell me about the stress cards. I ask them what would they do when in war, ask the enemy for a time out.

I was never in the Military but I like His his channel. My Uncles , Many Relatives and friends served in combat during prolonged exposure under adverse condition’s for one enlistment period during different wars. One of My Sons served as a combat Paramedic in Iraq in His First enlistment in the Army before qualifying for Special Forces and a career in the Army as a Special Forces “ Doc”. My combat Veteran Uncles would scoff at anyone who suggested that one enlistment was not enough to establish credibility. Only a cherry would suggest that. My Father in Law who served in the 95th Infantry Div. In World War Two said “ We would have Killed that guy” referring to Sgt. Hartman after I asked Him what He thought of Full Metal Jacket. One of My Dad’s older brother’s saw more combat and killed more men as a combat engineer in the 289th RCT 75th Division in just the first few days of combat in the Battle of the Bulge than many prima donna Marines have or will in many consecutive enlistments. I do not say this to denigrate any who served but only those who sit in self righteous and negative judgement of other’s. I like this Marines persona, presentation and Commentaries. If I had served I would want to serve with people like Him regardless of how many enlistments

One video comes to mind for me. Jameson brought up a sailor that was out of shape and his uniform didn't fit.
If you served or didn't I'm sure you remember the consoling's and reg's on appearance and fitness. He made a fair point you should be in shape your uniform should fit. Yet people hated that video. Some things do change but some things don't a lot of standards from his time are still in place and not enforced as they once were. I credit him for pointing out honest flaws he sees, that a lot of people see and are too afraid or brainwashed to say anything about.
