Just turned in my paperwork my ASVAB is in a week pretty excited even though this looks pretty soft compared to what I’ve been told about by friends in the military
Feb 22nd 2023, I will never forget the night when I arrived Ft Jackson airport. Now I am watching this on deployment and only one month away from home :)
42 years later I'll never forget the bus ride from MEPs to the airport, the plane ride to N. Carolina, the army reception station and the bus ride from the reception station to the barracks.
go to Rocco's DFAC on the weekends at Fort Sam Houston, you can take a bus that comes around the small PX every few hours for free, and the food is a lot better.
I am 17 and I really want to join and serve the country. however, my parents are strongly against this. I hope that we can come to an agreement where I get to serve in the military soon.
Honestly man I would look around at a “non combat mos” and try to convince them that way, it honestly probably still won’t be easy but that’s how I convinced my parents now I’m enlisted and ship November 7th as a 14G.
Your parents may be scared but really your decision to serve or not has little to do with them. It is your decision whether or not to enlist not theirs. Every able bodied citizen has that right. The Army doesn't need people who are trying to rebel against nor please their parents. Its needs people of substance who are willing to develop themselves into leaders and go forward when the people of this nation call them to act. Good luck with your decision.
Boy the Army has really toned down then how I remember. February to May 2013 Fort Leonard Wood. Drill Sergeants we’re cursing, screaming and throwing all our gear across the parade deck. Times have certainly changed.
I was just at Fort Jackson last year, September through December. I made it all the way through training but suffered an injury. I’m in the recovery process and plan to be back in Spring 2025. Army strong for life
Apparently the person that made this video remembers basic totally different from when I actually went to basic training.. there was a lot more physical and yelling.. maybe it's because I went to fort Benning back in 2000.. lol.. we spent 5 hours after shark attack lifting our bags and putting them down untill by accident we put bags down the same way.. no instructions just yelling.. kml.. still did my 4 years.. army leads the way.. go army
Well let’s see it’s 2023 and when you went in, it was 2000. So 23 years ago. Yes things have changed. You did 4 years. So yes things have changed. That’s like expecting high school to remain the same when you graduated lol
I'm currently in bct will be graduating in Jan 25. Reception was very scary for me due to being dropped off in the middle of the night. Stayed there a whole month due to the 09M program, lowkey miss the food and the sleep but yeah very disorganized when i was there which was August 28 2023. Just always follow instructions and be there on the right time and right uniform.
I always wanted to join the army when I was younger, but due to being deaf in my left ear, I was not given the opportunity. I ended up being a firefighter/ EMT. Many years later, I received a back injury from fighting a house fire. Now that I can't fight fire any more, I've been volunteering my time with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Tallahassee, Florida, at Post 3308.
Planned to do just the initial 5 year contract in the active U.S. Army, starting in 1993. Stayed for over 20. Oh what a ride it was! In the corporate world now with other fellow Armed Forces Veterans. I'd do it all over again tbh.
Fresh out of basic at fort Leonard wood and I can tell you it's gonna be the most hellish but most funny two months you'll experience. I loved and hated basic but it's pretty easy if you put the effort in. You got this man.
Its fun but hell, you can do it. I go back to bct on Tuesday and will be graduating on Jan 25. Go to church and remember your reason why. Fort jackson 334 🤟🏼 you got this!
They are all there, from all walks of life. They all have their own reasons for wanting to be there. Wow, many things have changed. 1989 at Ft. Knox was a lot more yelling with many expletives, and many stressful days. Drill Sgt's were a lot more "hands on", so to speak. I hope this new approach with recruits will turn out quality troops. Time will tell.
We had regular NCO's at reception center. This arrival is like boy and girl scouts camp here... I'm talking about when I saw first DS. I went in 1988 Ft. Sill Ok and we met our drill sergeants gettin outta a packed cattle trailer in August heat. They were a several of them shouting and yelling at top of their lungs to get in formation. doggin us cussing etc..Kids got it easy now
@@goarmy I loved it. I was planning to go the distance until I got banged up in 2004 while deployed to Iraq. I loved the Army and everything about the Army. Truly the best job I ever had.
I nearly joined the Army right out of high school, but I did not. Honestly, I don't think I would have made it. I wasn't the kind of person that would have been receptive to a DI and I would likely have been in trouble and eventually kicked out. I didn't understand the point to any of it. Now that I'm older, I wish I would have had a DI in my life. I wonder how my life would have been different. I'm a successful adult, but I feel like something is missing. I never received the discipline I needed as a young adult and never learned to establish bonds and trust with other people. Not to mention the physical fitness aspect of it all. I watch these videos now and it makes sense. Unfortunately it is too late in life for me to gain what I should have had in my youth. I was in St. Robert, MO a few years back and encountered a young man in the Army. He was meeting his family and honestly, I was proud of him and I didn't even know him. He accomplished more in his first 20 years of life than I did in my first 40. It really makes you reflect on your life choices.
I’m pretty sure this is the same guy that met me and my group when we got off the plane for fort Jackson. Crazy hearing his voice again. I feel like I don’t remember a lot of my drills, but I can still hear them screaming “YOUR DEAD GET DOWN!”
Our son graduated from college just after 9/11. He came home and told us he'd joined the Army because there were kids killed and that hit him hard. He went to Fort Benning for basic and on family day, told us he had that same thought when the bus pulled up to the barracks...WTF am I doing here? Well, he made it, then walked down the street to jump school, which allowed him to be selected for the 82nd Airborne. Early in the conflict, he was deployed three times to Afghanistan and Iraq, and we knew that his training made him one of the best of the best. He said it was the hardest thing he had ever done; he also side it was the best ting he'd ever done! Strike Hold!!!
I’m thinking of joining haven’t gone far in my life and I feel like this is something I would love to do serve my country something I can look back later and be proud of
when i was in my 20's i tried to enlist and was told that i couldnt cause of my hearing and slight asthma. I even asked the recruiter if there was any office type jobs i could do to support my country he said he'd have to get back to me cause he was never asked that question before. sadly he did get back to me and said no since i could not be put on the front lines i could not serve wich i thought was really messed up cause my family is military and i wanted to be apart of it. and now im 46 to old.
As soon as I got to reception I wanted to go home. I tried to fake a case of asthma but it didn't work. When I got to AIT I played crazy and finally managed to get out
Embarking my journey here soon, shipping out on the 12 of Feb next month. BT at Jackson then AIT at Sill for Artillery School. Going 13B/Cannon Crewmember
I came to fort Jackson about a month before this video came out, and I will say that this is pretty accurate to what you’ll experience in the first day (albeit was a little bit more laid back because I arrived to 120th in the middle of night so there was not very many personnel present)
This Tuesday is either make it or break it for me, I’m hoping to get cleared and be sworn in, if so I’m putting my heart and soul into the army, thank you all to put on that military uniform
I'm only 14, but i am 100% sure that i am joining the Army when i'm old enough to. I've been starting to practice already so that i can be as good as possible for when i can join. Can't wait!!
This is so interesting! Because my father was in the military for a bit in the 1970s or 80s, and he told me it was a crap hole. This video depicts the military to be more like a new opportunity. :)
I am going to be joining soon but my only problem is the asvab. I have no idea why I have not passed that test. I have failed it many times but I have still not given up because it’s something I want to do and something I want to fight for. I believe this’ll be the biggest challenge for me in my life, but I am willing to accept that challenge and not give up.
@@goarmy Ft. Jackson’s reception is better than the one I went through at FLW, but also worse in some ways as well. Clothing issue was a definite nightmare
I’m 26 and would like to join, but honestly not sure if it’s good at this age since my body might not recover from all the accumulated damage that inevitable comes from serving.
26 isn't old. But you are older. If possible I'd recommend going air force if you are older because not only is the army the most physically difficult next to the marines, But the army will also treat you the most like a little child. So I'm not telling you not to join the army, but I'm suggesting to give the air force a look. By the way I joined the army older myself.
Ahh shit, I just saw one of my Favorite DS from AIT! DS Cannon! Love that guy!💪🏿🖤 glad he made an appearance to demonstrate on how to stand at parade rest. He was on always big on showing us on how to do stuff right, and to not do stuff wrong. #369agbattalioncougars💪🏿

I remember DS Skippier from my arrival. I think it was around 2 am almost a year ago when I got there so, I might of been really tired or he was a funny guy. This is a nice flashback and I hope all the future soldiers find the reselience to pass BCT. I was in there shoes a year ago and now after a year of training I am currently packing my apartment to move to my first duty station. It goes by quick!
From what i remember it was long as far as paperwork. Then while at 30th AG you are assigned a barracks till ya get down range. The Shark attack was ok as far as I knew. I miss it.
A college semester is like two months. Its not a whole year. You wont be that far behind. And alao it might help you get a better score on the asvab so you would have more options available to you than just the worst jobs like being peacetime garrison infantry or a cook or fueler. I agree that the college credits for ged holders rule thsts been around for something like andecade sucks and is a weedout tool but you can get it done with financial aid, and in one or two semesters and you can probably do the courses online.
Fort Jackson is so laid back comparatively I went to ft Leonard wood and we didn’t get 2 whole minutes to talk to our loved ones, we got 10 seconds to say a pre written message saying we were safe and then hang up 😂
in 2010 i went through basic it was way more intense but tons of fun for me i feel like the basis of training has been lost and catered to the softness of this new america. i am glad to still see a ok amount of volunteers to join because it does give you a huge sense of purpose. I am also extremely thankful for the senior drill that i had when i went through DS Golden made me a man on his own with the help of the training i wouldnt be here if it wasnt for him and his in depth training because i definitely used my train more than a few times in afghanistan.

I remember walking through those doors at Jackson over 10 years ago. Much nicer reception in the video thats for sure. Stepped out of the army 3 years ago and into the air force, I dont regret my time in the army, made me who i am....
I'm joining soon and I'm nervous, excited, the whole range of emotions. But the bottom line is I'm ready.
Man I remember 120th like it was yesterday April 17th I arrived now im a soldier doing my job, keep going Guys!!, don’t give up it’ll be over soon
I never gave up. I’m really am an Army!! 💪💪
Just turned in my paperwork my ASVAB is in a week pretty excited even though this looks pretty soft compared to what I’ve been told about by friends in the military
Hey! How’s it going? Going for MEPS next week too.
No Where near.
No way near soft
They tone things down in front of a camera
Feb 22nd 2023, I will never forget the night when I arrived Ft Jackson airport. Now I am watching this on deployment and only one month away from home :)
Thank you for your service! 🔥💪🇺🇸
May I ask, what is your M.O.S.?
42 years later I'll never forget the bus ride from MEPs to the airport, the plane ride to N. Carolina, the army reception station and the bus ride from the reception station to the barracks.
joining next year fresh out of highschool. At least i hope. Joining as 68W going for 153A warrant officer. Wish me luck.
Good luck! 💪
go to Rocco's DFAC on the weekends at Fort Sam Houston, you can take a bus that comes around the small PX every few hours for free, and the food is a lot better.
@@baldingboomer-gs6birocco’s is closed on weekends now
How you doing man?
I’ll be behind you as a fellow 68W about a year from now 🤙
I am 17 and I really want to join and serve the country. however, my parents are strongly against this. I hope that we can come to an agreement where I get to serve in the military soon.
Serve part time in the guard
Wait to turn 18 if they keep trying to discourage you.
Bot ass comment
Boy the Army has really toned down then how I remember. February to May 2013 Fort Leonard Wood. Drill Sergeants we’re cursing, screaming and throwing all our gear across the parade deck. Times have certainly changed.
Even the Marines have toned it down sadly. They medically discharged me but they let people that were overweight in. Was very disappointing
Same thing happened to me, fort Leonard wood doesn't play.

I was just at Fort Jackson last year, September through December. I made it all the way through training but suffered an injury. I’m in the recovery process and plan to be back in Spring 2025. Army strong for life
similar story to me althought it was early 2022 when i got out and im talking to a recruiter to try and get back in right now
my wife was in last year as well she also have severe leg injuries she still in recovery
Get copies of ALL your medical records before they get “lost.”
I graduated today and man this was taking back to memory lane
How long does it take to graduate?
Basic Training is the same length (10 weeks long) for Active Duty, Army Reserve, and the National Guard.
Apparently the person that made this video remembers basic totally different from when I actually went to basic training.. there was a lot more physical and yelling.. maybe it's because I went to fort Benning back in 2000.. lol.. we spent 5 hours after shark attack lifting our bags and putting them down untill by accident we put bags down the same way.. no instructions just yelling.. kml.. still did my 4 years.. army leads the way.. go army
Jackson really be relaxing now lol.
To my knowledge they got rid of the shark attack completely because they deemed it unnecessary
Well let’s see it’s 2023 and when you went in, it was 2000. So 23 years ago. Yes things have changed. You did 4 years. So yes things have changed. That’s like expecting high school to remain the same when you graduated lol
Mind you there was cameras around during this, it might be a little different when there aren't lol.
I mean yea shit changes lol
I'm in Civil Air Patrol and just got back from the SCWG CTW at Fort Jackson so seeing it again with even more basic trainers is really awesome
Semper Vigilans!
This was a little bit more nicer when I went to basic back in 2013 as a 11B
They may have toned down a bit for the video
God bless each and every one of them who joins the forces. God bless America 🇺🇸. See you soon !
That's amazing. Nevertheless, thank you for your service!
Planned to do just the initial 5 year contract in the active U.S. Army, starting in 1993. Stayed for over 20. Oh what a ride it was! In the corporate world now with other fellow Armed Forces Veterans. I'd do it all over again tbh.
This upcoming Tuesday I ship out to basic train to Fort Jackson. I’m nervous and excited for what is to come about new military career.
Good luck at training! 👊
Fresh out of basic at fort Leonard wood and I can tell you it's gonna be the most hellish but most funny two months you'll experience. I loved and hated basic but it's pretty easy if you put the effort in. You got this man.
@@itsthe5-096what’s your job ? (MOS)?
Its fun but hell, you can do it. I go back to bct on Tuesday and will be graduating on Jan 25. Go to church and remember your reason why. Fort jackson 334 🤟🏼 you got this!
They are all there, from all walks of life. They all have their own reasons for wanting to be there. Putting your life in the line for liberty and country, is probably the biggest sacrifice someone can do for their country. I dont always support or agree with our government, but i will alway support our troops. Thank you for your service.
Army needs to step it up with there videos. Its no wonder recruitment is at an all time low.
*their. Genius
don't see how else they need to make it any better, I rather have those wants to serve
@@atc562002How else are people who are gonna wanna serve learn about the army 😂
@@CompositionTalks have you ever been in the military at all!? 😅 amuse me
@@atc562002 I know nothing about what the army did 😂 I had to go see a recruiter go and explain to me all the jobs and all that 😂 don't act like 24/7 soldiers are out there risking their lives , every vet risk theirs lives at one point which is commendable . But people who are thinking but don't know where to start need these vids dawg (and yes I'm bout to deploy to SC June 17yh 😂
When I was in the Army. I said YES SIR. Army has changed since I went in
Whatever happened to 'I want to be an Airborne Ranger, I want to live a life of danger Drill Sergeant!'
💝
Im in AIT right now. I remember doing this few months ago omg I felt like I was about to shit my pants lol. Good Luck Trainees!
Fr
What MOS? I'm currently in AIT
I’m 17, going to be doing the split training over summer, and I am so nervous. I can’t wait to be in the army, but I must admit, I am nervous yet so excited.
This isn’t a question or anything, just me wanting to be proud to say I can’t wait to be able to follow in the footsteps of so many.
Wow, many things have changed. 1989 at Ft. Knox was a lot more yelling with many expletives, and many stressful days. Drill Sgt's were a lot more "hands on", so to speak. I hope this new approach with recruits will turn out quality troops. Time will tell.
It’s so cool seeing the people I went to basic with in this video
We had regular NCO's at reception center. This arrival is like boy and girl scouts camp here... I'm talking about when I saw first DS. I went in 1988 Ft. Sill Ok and we met our drill sergeants gettin outta a packed cattle trailer in August heat. They were a several of them shouting and yelling at top of their lungs to get in formation. doggin us cussing etc..Kids got it easy now
Ft Sill OK. 1982. Basic Training and AIT. 13Bravo. C-2. 4th Platoon.
These are the ones who will be fighting for us in the future and laying they life on the line ❤❤❤
Basic training stars in three weeks for me
Good luck at training! 👊
Same here
I’ll never forget this, February of 2024 went through this, bringing back some crazy memories I forgot all about lol
I still remember my first day of basic training in August 1998 at Ft. Sill, OK
Thank you for your service, Brian. 🔥💪🇺🇸
Drill Sergeant is a tough job. A lot of respect for them.
Thank you for your service Shomari !
I’m thinking of joining haven’t gone far in my life and I feel like this is something I would love to do serve my country something I can look back later and be proud of
I was there in 1995, Delta 2/39 "Wardogs". Time flies, scary fast.
U.S. ARMY Tanker. 1972-1975. 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. GO ARMY!!!!
Memories. I am 3 days away to graduate from AIT now. God bless the USA. Completed Basic at Fort Leonard wood, lost in the woods!
You got this! Keep your eye on the 🏆.
when i was in my 20's i tried to enlist and was told that i couldnt cause of my hearing and slight asthma.
Good luck at training! 👊
I came to fort Jackson about a month before this video came out, and I will say that this is pretty accurate to what you’ll experience in the first day (albeit was a little bit more laid back because I arrived to 120th in the middle of night so there was not very many personnel present)
I didn't see my first DI for a week. Had a regular sergeant train us for the initial days getting gear (uniforms) and paper pushing days.
This Tuesday is either make it or break it for me, I’m hoping to get cleared and be sworn in, if so I’m putting my heart and soul into the army, thank you all to put on that military uniform
You got this! 💪
since I'm just now graduating bct I can fact check this video it's pretty accurate except its at night and not at all cinematic
The silent bus ride was the most intense thing after getting to that airport at 10 PM all dark
I’m prior service and I’d go to The Army in a heartbeat and yes, I’d love to go to Army bootcamp

This is so interesting! Because my father was in the military for a bit in the 1970s or 80s, and he told me it was a crap hole. This video depicts the military to be more like a new opportunity. :)
I remeber this like it was yesterday even though I got there at like 2 AM and didn’t sleep until two days later. Reception sucks
😂 it really does. Stayed for a whole month too. Only thing i miss is the food. I rather eat that than MREs.😢
At 120th AG, I was A Co PLT 6-0, roster number 050, Bay 4, bunk and locker 14, for reception. I came in on December 27, 2023
🔥💪🇺🇸
@@goarmy Ft. Jackson’s reception is better than the one I went through at FLW, but also worse in some ways as well. Clothing issue was a definite nightmare
I’m 26 and would like to join, but honestly not sure if it’s good at this age since my body might not recover from all the accumulated damage that inevitable comes from serving.
Your Recruiter is the best person to advise on this. If you need their contact information, visit 👉 spr.ly/6050uwgqO.
26 is not too old join up
26 is young
26 isn't old. But you are older. If possible I'd recommend going air force if you are older because not only is the army the most physically difficult next to the marines,
But the army will also treat you the most like a little child.
So I'm not telling you not to join the army, but I'm suggesting to give the air force a look. By the way I joined the army older myself.
breh im 26 joining to be a ranger. FULL SEND bro
I was here in that exact spot 6 months ago. Just graduated AIT last week.
I’m scheduled to ship out on November 14 to Fort Leonard Wood, I can’t wait!
Good luck. You’re going to do great! 🔥💪🇺🇸
How are you liking it
Ahh shit, I just saw one of my Favorite DS from AIT! DS Cannon! Love that guy!💪🏿🖤 glad he made an appearance to demonstrate on how to stand at parade rest. He was on always big on showing us on how to do stuff right, and to not do stuff wrong. #369agbattalioncougars💪🏿
I’m 16 and I wanna join the British army as soon as I can and do infantry and hopefully be a marksman but idk what to train like I know running but I don’t know what else like I’m weak but I wanna be stronger and hopefully sign up in January
I’m shipping out in 2 days , can’t wait
Good luck at training!
Can’t wait to leave next week. HOOAH!
You got this! Keep your eye on the 🏆.
too ez private, just stay motivated and remember your why and be right time, right uniform, right place you be fine.
I miss it.
I guess the Army changed, maybe for the better. I went to Jackson in 2005, A 3/34. I remember more yelling lol.
If I’m being honest, I’m 19, and I really been thinking about doing this, because I want a STRONGER mindset and better form of motivation.
Some of life's greatest adventures start with one single step. All you have to do is go for it! 💪
This could be me if you treated GEDs as high school equivalent but now I have to grind a college semester
Best experience of my life I never want to have again, good luck.

I go to Arms 2.0 tmr at fort Jackson, can’t wait for what’s for me!
Fort Jackson is so laid back comparatively I went to ft Leonard wood and we didn’t get 2 whole minutes to talk to our loved ones, we got 10 seconds to say a pre written message saying we were safe and then hang up 😂
Back in the day we were sable to keep the phone during reception at fort Jackson, that is a shame that definitely helped.
Missing my husband heavy tonight... been watching all the fort jackson videos... he just got there yesterday
in 2010 i went through basic it was way more intense but tons of fun for me i feel like the basis of training has been lost and catered to the softness of this new america. i am glad to still see a ok amount of volunteers to join because it does give you a huge sense of purpose. I am also extremely thankful for the senior drill that i had when i went through DS Golden made me a man on his own with the help of the training i wouldnt be here if it wasnt for him and his in depth training because i definitely used my train more than a few times in afghanistan.
I go to fort Jackson in 13 days I’m a 27D mos which is a paralegal specialist
That’s awesome! 👍
Shipping out next week wish me luck.
Good luck. You’re going to do great! 🔥💪🇺🇸
Went through the reception and Army basic training twice after having a four year break in service. 1956 and 1963. The second time was easier.
When I was in, we were allowed to cross our arms, man the new Army is Hardcore
