I had the grandmeister for a week. I did a ton of research, watched all the demos, etc. It's just way too fizzy in the gain sections. Took it back for a Friedman Dirty Shirley 20. Never looked back. Triamp!!! Great amp! Dream amp is probably the Friedman BE deluxe, 50 or 100...

@@agufish no idea, never heard mkII or III in person. its not common here either, but I bought mine for something like 400 bucks 3 years ago and going strong ever since. in my limited experience and humble opinion there is every sound in a triamp that you can dream up. an attenuator is a must tho even for the mkI's measly 100w :D the sound is lacking at any bearable volumes. once cranked it comes alive and wonderful.
if you keep it you can get rid of all the others :D everything else becomes quite redundant no? :D

@@agufish From the MK 1, 3B channel and the 2A were revoiced on the MKII Triamp to be a bit more modern (at the time). One of the more famous MK1 users is Anchang of the Japanese band Sex Machine guns. A MK II is used by Akio Shimizu of the band Anthem or Josh Rand from Stone Sour. I own a MK1 also. One thing the MKIII has that was very new was the ability to have different power tube section with preamp. This lets you use a American channel with 6L6 power or British with EL34 power.

I have a GM36 and I absolutely love it. The best thing about the GM series is that each channel is actually voiced differently - it isn't just increasing the amount of gain. So, as I understand it, the Ultra channel is voiced for lower tunings and stuff like that.
I absolutely LOVE H&K amps, they've definitely carved out their own little portion of the market.

So I've owned a GM40D for a couple of years now, and I just wanted to drop a couple of things I've had to get used to:
    - it's freakin' *bright*. like, all the time. But it sounds killer and super distinct in a mix, and you can pile on as much gain as you want without it mushing out or losing clarity
    - treble high, presence low - the presence control adds a really nice bit of cut, but it can get really overbearing really quickly, while treble does more of an extension rather than boost
    - use the stompbox mode if you can, especially to jam or write with, because it gives you a ton of options with a couple of foot taps and it functions as four channels with independent EQ, plus a TS-style boost, plus delay, plus a modulation. On one tiny amp. With a footswitch that powers itself. Think on that for a second, I'll wait
    - The Redbox DI for some reason sounds a lot darker than the amp actually sounds, so I keep the presence and resonance on mine set to "universal" (so it won't shift per patch or channel) and use them to fine-tune for DI vs. cabinet (then again I use a pretty bright cab, so YMMV on this)
It's a killer killer amp, and when I got mine for $999 + footswitch (they've gone up in price since) it was an absolute steal - super versatile, sounds great, and incredibly portable. For the current price they're less "get this it's best-in-class" and more of an easy recommendation.

I've had a Triamp Mk II since 2004. It's still a beast, though the internal heat fries the board from time to time and it spends a week in hospital getting it's dry solders fixed. Really needs an internal fan. Make sure you keep it in a well ventilated cool place if you get one. It doesn't chew pre-amp tubes, and only uses power tubes every couple of years. A lot faster than my Mesa amps though.
Mad amp though, I've never been able to understand people whinging about crap tone. I just pick form whichever of the six magic ones I want on any day or moment.
How dare you demo it without the freaking quad !!
Channel 1A - Fender clean, not really Blackface, IMO
1B - Tweed, not Vox, turn the gain up and it screams, hit it with a Klon, you will orgasm
    2A PLexi, amazing Hendrix tones

    3A Overdirven JCM800

I had a Triamp Mk. II for about 15 years, and it really is a great amp. The Mk. III addresses my one beef with the Mk. II, which was that the tone controls were shared between Amp 2A (plexi-ish) and Amp 2B (JCM800-ish but smoother/darker) and so either Amp 2A was icepick-in-the-ears bright or Amp 2B was too muddy. (I ended up not using Amp 2A much as a result.) The Mk. III solved that by giving all 6(!) channels their own tone controls.

Hey FYI GM 40 to make this amp easy to use.. if you turn the amp on but still in stand buy press and hold for 3 sec store and fax button til they blink then from there and what button you push. You can set the presence and resonance knobs to global so they don’t change by preset. (I think it’s a lot more easy to have it this way. You can also set the power soak for all presets. So what ever watt you chose it will stay that for every preset. So you can have you gig settings then go home and push one button and it stay at the watt. I also think turning the master all the way up then using channel volume up at like 10 -11 o’clock then back off the master if needed but try to leave it dimed. Knowing this has made me like this amp a lot. THERE IS A DIAGRAM ON THE BOTTOM OF THE AMP HEAD! Lol

Hunter, m' lad, I don't really have a dream amp, nor a dream guitar. I like too many things about guitars for any one to contain everything. You can't get a single guitar with both a Floyd and a hard tail without buying a doubleneck, and they're HEAVY. I went digital decades ago, and while I have a kickass combo amp in the form of a 70 Watt Fender Performer 650, I almost always play through modelers. Versatility is my middle name (Actually, it's Drew, but I'm making a point here.😎), and the only way to get close to the same level of versatility in a old-style amp is to spend a bank on something like YOUR dream amp. It's possible to get killer tones with digital gear and it has been for many years now. Currently, I've saved a lot of money by getting older, used gear. I now own a Zoom G9.2tt Guitar Effects Console, a DigiTech RP350 Modeling Guitar Processor and a DigiTech RP355 Modeling Guitar Processor & USB Recording Interface. (I keep the lesser DigiTech unit as a backup for the greater.) Happily, the Zoom has an effects loop that allows me to match many of the strengths of the DigiTech RP family with those of the Zoom big gun of its time. Both sound great on their own, but I believe that proper use of combinations will yield great sounds impossible to get any other way. The Zoom unit actually uses two 12AX7 tubes ( The "tt" business is for "twin tube".) to help enhance the feel of the unit's music and both families have impressive tone-shaping powers. The Zoom has a six-band EQ and the DigiTech tone stacks have four bands of EQ with middle and treble controls enhanced with sweepable center frequencies. Each unit also has models of amps that don't actually exist; they're virtual units with brand-specific sounds. I'm gonna shut up now -- uniqueness beckons!😎❤️️🎸‼️

I normally am not A fan of h&k stuff. It usually sounds like it's muffled and muddy. But channel 3A on the tri amp sounded pretty damn amazing. As far as my dream amp. I've always wanted to play a revv g120. I also really like the prs mt15 tonally as well. And I'm excited to see the 100 watt version once it's released.
Also next play through if you still have any of the amaroks I would love to hear them played through one of these. I'm highly considering swapping my emg81/85 for the hot 70 set just from your demos on the amaroks

I have a Black Spirit 200 and a Grandmeister Deluxe 40 and they're both great. The GM sounds better but if you're in a band you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between it and the BS 200. And the BS 200 is all solid state, no tubes to worry about, and it weighs almost nothing. The Triamp is something I drool over and I'd love to have one but it would never leave my house.

Alexis Guitars I haven’t decided yet lol. Honestly sometimes I plug in and it’s like yes this nasty rock tone is everything! And sometimes I’m just not feeling it. It’s just so loose and fuzzy. I’m going to try blending it with my other amps and see how I feel about it then. Maybe it works better to thicken up rhythm tones of a tighter amp like the 6505?

@@agufish I know what you mean. With my two orange amps (which I love btw) I need a tubescreamer to access higher gain sounds because it's otherwise just too much for my style of playing - the terror stamp is a good example - awesome up to crunch...after that it's just... yeah

My dream amp: something handmade to spec by a master. Yet I have the strangest benchmark to go by. I have a Gene Lies. Quite literally built in a Kansas barn by an old farm boy, it is easily the best sounding amp I've ever come across. I compare it to the difference between modern buildings and classic architecture from the 19th century. In the past, a home was built around a family, these days a family is stuffed into a floorplan.
The Gene Lies is much the same, only with jarring, crude touches. Imagine an old Plush circuit, only in a cube 3 feet on a side. Two tweeters, two woofers, and two sub-woofers are not just plugged into the circuit, but are a continuous, integrated whole complete with outsized capacitors between the speakers to filter the signal to the proper place. And topped of with (I shit you not) a refrigerator handle to carry this boat anchor around.
If it's a functional pickup (piezo, passive, active, hybrid, distorted, clean, crunch, lead, electric violin, cello, mandolin, classical, acoustic, but I've never worked up the nerve to try bass) it will sound clear, clean, and composed. Owned it for... not sure how long. Clinton might have been president when I got it. It's so loud, I've never had it past 3. Ever had a clean acoustic guitar dialed past 150db and still sound clear? That's what this thing is capable of at 3. Make me one of these before the art of this antique is lost.
