My love for history that started in highschool has been reignited 🔥 a lot of late... This kind of in depth history should be taught in schools. Our history has so many gaps based on the shallow mentions in the school books

Professor Munene Macharia himself is a walking repository of knowledge-an African archive. He not only articulates his points seamlessly but walks his audience through nuanced historical concepts-from the implicit to the explicit. Much of what he posits is not only factual and verifiable but clearly vindicative. Macharia's arguments relate to my work on "The Cost of Loyalism" of the 20th Century. I have much to draw on this historical episode. I find his way of thinking savvy and idiosyncratic!

To hear this part of my history has awakened a serious curiosity and I want to know more. We need more and details of the things that happened behind closed doors to shape Kenya. Just imagine a Kenya where Tom Mboya is the president and JM Kariuki the deputy president. How far could we have gone...wishful thinking though

The other day my mother was telling me how the colonial times were, how the mzungus would kick down the door of their little home at night.
To sleep on a sack filled with grass as a mattress was a HUGE luxury.
I heard the pain in her voice & saw the saddness in her eyes.
I told her mama your alright now.
She told me I'll never start to understand. What it took for Kenyans to get here.
She's told me about Tom Mboya etc.
She & my late dad were in Kisumu when Kenyatta was stoned & hit with eggs & so many Luos were shot & killed the horror of that day.
