Could you do a video slowly showing all the steps. I'm a beginner to photoshop and I'm struggling to follow your instruction. Your designs are great tho.
One easy way is to select the whole canvas (ctrl + A), then go select > modify > contract and choose a border size in pixels, then flip your selection (ctrl shift + I) and finally create a white Solid color layer and it will fill that selection. Hope that makes sense :)

Your works are so amazing! I just have a question, when you're using the brush to add shadows or colors to people, are you drawing on a new layer and clipping it down?
I'm usually adding a brightness/contrast adjusment layer, bringing down the brightness, inversing the layer mask and then painting back in the lowered brightness adjustment layer. Bit more advanced but better results!
