It blows my mind that people have the audacity to shame parents for teaching their children how to swim when it’s one of the most important lessons to learn

A lot of criticism came from people thinking the baby was too young to swim. However she clearly proved them wrong. The earlier you learn to swim the better
I am with the mom. The baby learning to float was simply amazing. The mom lost a child to drowning, of course she is going to do everything in her power to make sure that never happens to any of her other children. I’m glad she shared the video because it did indeed open a lot of parents eyes about the dangers of water and making sure their kids know how to swim at an early age.
@@jeffhampton2767 Even if it was just floating, tbh, it's still impressive that she was able to hold herself up being only 6 months old at the time. And there was literally no arm floaties which is even more impressive imo.

I was born in Florida 50 years ago was raised my whole life here. I learned to swim because my swimming lesson coach tossed me in the pool when I was a baby. He stopped my mother from jumping in to save me and I stayed afloat on my own. I’ve been a very skilled swimmer since and it saved me while stationed over in Hawaii when I was caught in a rip curl and the life guards and the rescuers with jet skis couldn’t get to me. I swam for over an hour against it and finally somehow managed to make it to shore close enough for them to pull me to safety. All of this while my two very young daughters watched all of this. I thank David(swim instructor)and his staff for what they did by knowing my capabilities way beyond anyone else would have known.
My mother put me in the pool while I was in diapers in the mid 50's. I have always loved the water and swimming. And love my mother for having the foresight to introduce me to the water as an infant.
I really support this, I still distinctly remember at 4 years old I slipped into a pool during a wedding and almost drowned, but my mom was nearby to dive in and save me, if no one was nearby to help I likely wouldn’t be here today. Swim lessons save lives
This iswhy it's important to wait before you guys cast judgment. People over here berating this woman and calling her a horrible mom don't even know her son tragically passed away and when she was blessed to get another chance to raise a sweet baby she wanted to give her a lifesaving skill set.
I almost drowned at age 12 in 2007 during a water park trip with my youth group from my church. I jumped into a wave pool and I was getting hit by inter tubes. As I kept getting closer to the steps to get out, the tubes kept hitting me and making get further away. I called the lifeguards for help and waved my hands for help, the lifeguards just waved to me and did nothing to help me. One of my friends from my youth group jumped in without hesitation and helped me get out. After that experience I don’t get into a wave pools anymore without a tube.
I applaud the mum for teaching the child from a very early age, all my children learnt from a very early age to float in the pool & then later they learnt to swim. I’m Australian & we have water everywhere so we wanted our children to be safe, I lost my niece at a young age to a drowning & it broke all out hearts so we were adamant our children would learn to swim. Yeah I remember seeing that video when it came out all those years ago and it just blew my mind. People are so hard on her parents should be doing this in case of baby falls into a pool by accident without the parents watching could literally save their lives so this mom had every right to do what she did she was protecting her child and people need to leave her alone and stop telling other people had a parent their children
This was the first time I've seen that viral video. Many people see shame when watching that baby swim. I see a skill taught to her that could have saved her life if she fell into water. Plus, her mother was right there in case things went downhill. It never hurts to teach them young!
At two years old my bubble came off, the snap broke in the water. From that day on I swam. Dove off high dive at four years old. 8 1/2 years on the swimming/diving team and a lot of medals. Six years as a lifeguard. Thank you, Mom and Dad.🏊♀️💪
I was shocked at the infant swimming technique at first BUT the it’s SO important! Babies should have one thing to defend themselves with 🥺 God bless all the babies we’ve lost 🙏

As someone who was taught to swim at a very young age (4 months) and living in a country like australia it’s extremely important to teach your kids basic survival skills early on as infants i dont get the criticism honestly. why is it frowned upon to try and keep your child alive by teaching them like?
God, learning that the whole reasons she did this for her daughter was because her son drowned was gut wrenching. I would imagine it would make it even harder for her at first to see her baby in the water. It just goes to show parents who do this with their children aren’t doing it out of naive irresponsibility but because they know what could happen if they don’t.
I think these life saving skills are very important. Friends of mine lost a child to drowning. 😢 I can swim. I was a trained Scuba Dive Master. I had to learn Sea Rescue. The water or sea is very powerful. We are ants in comparrison to the vast power of the ocean. Any body of water can be dangerous if one doesnt take care. Believe me, in August this year, I was struggling in deep water in the sea. I was trying to get to the steps on a pier which is built for people to get into the sea and out. I have back problems and started struggling. A whole bunch of kids were all standing on the stairs, jumping in and out, and couldn't care about anyone but themselves. Why are they like that, because they have ignorant parents who don't teach their children respect and manners. To be mindful. It is all me, me, me, me. The kids were blocking people of all ages from being able to get to the stairs. Nobody was supervising the kids. Things happen very fast, even for adults. I commend this lady for sending her children for life saving lessons. I am very sorry to hear she lost her son. It seems like social media breeds a culture of people who feel free to attack anyone and everyone.
This is fantastic. Look at how baby Josie bobbed like a lil cork and saved herself!!! What a wonderful way to give back to the community after such a tragic loss. This Mum is brilliant.
I completely understand the anxiety and panic from some viewers seeing the child "appear" to struggle when in all actuality , she wasn't. With saying that, more parents need to be educated on the safety of it so then they can save their harsh criticism.
I think there’s just one valid criticism. If you don’t know how to do CPR on a baby, you shouldn’t take such a risk. And I’d also have to assume, there was prior training involved that wasn’t shown. And promoting this without disclaiming said measures is objectively reckless. Nothing inherently wrong with what was done, but the devil is in the details.
The Red Cross used to have excellent swimming programs that I used for my child back in the 80's. After each 3 weeks course, I would turn around and stick him back in the course until he perfected it. He also loved it as well. Some of the courses consisted of: Floating American Crawl Boat survival ( they actually put a boat in the pool) Back strokes among the regular lap and diving swimming lessons, etc. It was great!
Don't forget side stroke. Lifesaving and Boating skills were a requirement for our GR 6 and GR 7 camping trip. All the instructors knew about it and made sure we were ready for our school field trip. Of course that's no longer possible because of some Karen suing the government for summer school program charging money. Our school district had a robust summer program but it wasn't part of the regular curriculum so parents had to pay fees. Parents didn't mind because it helped us and also went to the schools' year round funding and as a result would be able to hire better teachers for their kids.
