I'm coming from the future, and like the box says: "Not compatible with 1st and 2nd AMD Ryzen gen processors" it's true! They never said "Not compatible with 1st and 2nd Ryzen APU's" Hoping AMD doesn't patch that in a future BIOS update. I think the reason why BIOS didn't see nvme drive with 2200g/2400g might be the CPU pcie lan limitation. Due to the motherboard Pcie configuration, M.2_1, which is connected to cpu, might just don't connect to anywhere. 2400g only has x8 lans, if it all connect to the pcie x16 slot, then M.2_1 is just not connected. After all, 2200g/2400g is not officially supported. I might be wrong tho.

Great idea for a video, Mike! I am very surprised that it posted with the R3 2200G. I suppose there might be some workarounds in the future for backwards for the B550 compatibility with Zen+ chips.

Id love to see an official video on the 3200g. There seems to be alot of mixed reviews with the B550 chipset and the 3200G. Some say it works, others say no.

Hey Mike! I got a 3200g working but I’m getting constant blue screens. I was thinking that they were occurring because of the incompatibility issues. Do you think this may be the case?
You can decode the blue screens and that might point in the right direction or check you have all the right drivers installed that is generally the cause of most blue screens
I got my Tomahawk B550 + Ryzen 5 2600 + M.2 + SSD + 2070 Super loaded windows and it fired right up, this was about 2 years ago, still going strong. The one thing I did notice was, in the bios, the game boost button is not lit, can't turn it on, doesn't affect performance from my experience.

Hi Mike. Interesting experiment. I had to laugh, as every time I yelled something out to try, you'd try it. Warped minds do apparently think alike. In regards to PCIe Gen4 M.2 drives. Perhaps now you see why I love them. I mean, you won't install Windows that fast with any other drives. In regards to DRAM, I've been experimenting with mine and setting it to a bunch of different speeds and timings. In benchmarks, faster DRAM with tighter timings make a big difference. But for gaming and day to day things like watching RUclips and such, I see very little difference between the stock 2133 with timings of 15 15 15 32 42 358 1T and my OC settings of 3733 14-15-14-30-44-290-1T. Thus, anyone on a super tight budget should have no problem with buying the cheapest DRAM they can find and not worry so much about the speed. In regards to the B550 chipset. I see nothing on it that's much better then a B450 or X470, unless you're an overclocker like me. In that case you should just go with a X570 mobo in your price range. As of now, I see little advantage of buying the up coming Ryzen 4000 series CPU's as there is no upgrade path after them. The info I've gotten says this is the end of life for the AM4 socket. For that reason, I personally won't upgrade until the Ryzen 5000 series CPU's which I've fairly sure with require new mobo's with the AM5 socket, most likely with DDR5 RAM. Thus, I see no reason to spend money on a 4000 series chip when the 3000 series goes up to 16 cores and 32 threads. Lastly, in regards to the IC thermal pads. They're awesome for swapping out CPU's like you did in this video. They may not be the best solution for everyday cooling, but they're a great time saver and much less messy when you have to change the CPU's often like some crazy overclockers, like me do. 😂 Great video, cheers.
The future should be as you said but with the current capacity issues with amd and fabs in general it will be interesting to see how things turn out being that the 5000 series will need a new node and the fabs will have to stop another node to make room. Interesting times indeed

I guess it depends on the board. My ASUS B550M TUF gaming plus works fine with the ryzen 1700. In fact, I was able to OC the memory to 3600mhz cl16 and the infinity fabric to 1800mhz. Latencies close to 70ns on 1st gen ryzen.
@@rx58000 AFAIK any ASUS B550 board with BIOS flashback functionality use the same code base as their X570 boards so CPU support is the same on those as of now. So what ever the X570 TUF supports for instance should work on a B550 TUF models.

I did not update or flashback bios. However one system I changed boards to a 570 because I kept having issues, which I thought was related to the board. Continued having them, replaces memory. I'm starting to think my M.2 is bad. So I'm sure the 2700x worked fine in new board.
My build using this board and a 2700 will not boot up. The CPU and RAM light are on solid. No screen. Tried my 1600 cpu and it will not work either. Same lights.

@@mikesunboxing I hope I got it right.. So as I understand it the ram speeds which are stable, aren't determinted by the cpu instead theyre determinet by the chipset. And for exampel some b550 itx boards support 4400mhz ram. So I thought, if the mobo is stable with the 3200g the ram speeds (if their on the qvl) would also be stable.. But now I thought the Imc (memory controller) is in the cpu and therefore the cpu determines how much speed it lets trough.. Tbh I'm a little confused right now.. Does the mobo or cpu determine ram speeds? (Ofcourse both do, but which is the limiting factor?)

my ryzen build kit consists of 3x brands of 2133 3x brands of 2400, I always start with a single 4g stick and go through the bunch till one works and 1 of 3x GPUs. I like to start with a basic low profile PNY gt 210 in most as I build on box and don't like to stress the PCI slot works in most cases, ASUS GTX 750 mini maxwell, works in some ASUS to stop the bios overscan on screen chopping the edges, that seems to happen even with rx 500 cards and for all MSI boards I have to go for the gigabyte gtx 1060 mini as most of my tester cards seems to screw with the bios graphics overlay specially on a320 boards. Getting it to post with the chip you want to use and a display out is half the battle won to move on to the parts you want to finish with. Going to direct Terry to this vid so he can send either his chip or board back to amazon and exchange for something that works. They never said "Not compatible with 1st and 2nd Ryzen APU's" Hoping AMD doesn't patch that in a future BIOS update. In another channel they made the experiment with an ASUS ROG B550-ITX and Ryzen 3400G and it worked! Thank you for solving the mith, Mike!
Which is that other channel and you could download this current bios from asrock website if it's available.

Yes this is the case I think in hindsight

Great idea for a video, Mike! I am very surprised that it posted with the R3 2200G. I suppose there might be some workarounds in the future for backwards for the B550 compatibility with Zen+ chips.

Hi, I've a MSI B550 Tomahawk which had a 5800x3d as its last processor and now I want to use an old 2600x on it. Do you think that is possible ?
@@GoodbyWorld Hi! ... well... it's working with a "regular" 2600. Believing that the difference is only the frequency, I think it will work. Be sure to have the latest BIOS version installed.
So I actually just got into building. Built my first. Didn't pay enough attention to compatibilities. I built a msi rig with msi mpg b550 gaming plus, msi radeon 5600xt, and an and ryzen 7 2600x. I used a ssd but am waiting on a m.2 nvme I was going to use. So I installed os on the ssd. I've had no issues. Been gaming away. So now I'm extremely confused because I was about to put a ryzen 5 2600xt on an msi a520 for my grandfather but now I'm concerned...
that should be okay
I think I will test bench 5 2600x on a520 and post my results
Confirming, both rigs I've built using ssd, 500 series boards and 2000 series CPUs both work without any problems. Msi mag b550 gaming plus with ryzen 7 2700x and an msi a520 vector with ryzen 5 2600x.
@Fakens Plays Glad I could help.
The future should be as you said but with the current capacity issues with amd and fabs in general it will be interesting to see how things turn out being that the 5000 series will need a new node and the fabs will have to stop another node to make room. Interesting times indeed
I like your review! Pretty exciting!

Ok thanks dude. I was not sure what to do as there are still many people claiming that a ryzen 5 2600x works fine with b550. Gonna stick to 450 then
it does depend from what boards you are using but it seems most b550 boards work okay at the moment with older CPUs

Newer bios lose backwords the suport on older chips but usualy the baords are shipped with old bios so it should work with even 1600af

Thanks! I was hoping to get a 3200g to work on a b550 board with ram 4400mhz ram.. I think that would be awesome!! :P
That would be cool! just you might struggle to get the ram running at those speeds

How about checking some other motherboards aswell? I want to get a DS3H B550 from Gigabyte and I already got a 2200G, do you think it'll work? I can't upgrade the CPU rn but I really want this future-proofing..!
from what i have heard that works okay
Planning to buy an msi b550m mortar, gonna upgrade from a320, im planning to upgrade to a 5600x in a few months but i just want to upgrade my motherboard first. Im using a ryzen 5 2600, will that work?
yes that will be fine
people are reporting that at least boards with 32 mb bios most 2000 ryzen gen work out of the box...
yes that seems to be the case at the moment
Hello, I got a question, I just a bought a MSI B550m A PRO and a 5600g, but the bios isn't updated to the last version, any idea if I can use a 5 2400g to do the update without any problems?
My friend Got a Ryzen 3400G with a Gigabyte B550m. It posted and we also installed windows 10 on an NVMe m.2 ssd and all worked fine until he tried to game on it. Keeps getting a black screen. Gonna try to "fix" it and share how it goes
I had the same thing with a board and everything was great until opening any game
Well we can somewhat game on it, at least for a few minutes until it crashes again 😅. On lower settings we could game for longer periods, didn't crash yet, but I feel like it a matter of time really.
hi mike i really need your help i bought myself a ryzen 1600af and gigabyte a520 s2h i put everything together connected and the screen is black what to do
This is maybe easier to fix or at least advise if we can ask more questions and get direct answers, so feel free to join our Discord chat and we can go over it in more detail discord.gg/gaeeDPw
I recently bought an MSI MPG b550 gaming Plus and I'm using a ryzen 5 2600x with no issues at all however I think I'm just lucky lol
by the way very good video
the non APU models are generally all fine and thanks for commenting
Technical Guruji Intro Song😂🤣
content cop , but yes we all use it
This does make me curious if it might work with an athlon a6 9500. Since I heard rumors that's the loaner cpu from amd
yes i believe that is right
Thank you.. my 200ge will stick with the old A320 chipset.. lol.. B450 or B350 if I could still find one.
Good luck!
Motherboard lack microcodes for those CPUs, you can modify bios and add them manually but not very safe method 😅
Thanks for the info
@@mikesunboxing I do that and put Xeon soc771 cpu inside soc775 socket few years ago, but have issues because chipset needed active cooling or rip, basically bios have limited size so if you delete microcode for cpu which you not use then you can put microcode for unsupported cpu 😄
Have you done any testing with the r5 2600 on B550 itx motherboards? Specifically the b550i gaming edge?
no sorry but others have said it works fine
@@mikesunboxing Thanks, something I will definitely keep in mind.
And again mighty ryzen 3 2200g worked.😂 Another win for this legendary cpu
sir mike i really need a quick reply. will a 2nd gen amd processor work on b450 that is already updated to work on 3rd gen processor?
yes it will first gen might not
Hey there!
So, with all you have told the R3 3200g can work without any problem with a Rpg Strix b550-f gaming wifi?
I dont want to buy any more expensive cpu because y want upgrade to R5000 series.
What would you advice me if I dont have any pgu and want to work with an Apu meanwhile?
mixed reports on this so i would take any info with caution
Hello I have a Ryzen 1600 and I am thinking of changing my a320 motherboard, should I buy the Asus B450-F II or the MSI B550 gaming plus or do you recommend another motherboard? Both are practically the same price here in Mexico
Msi b550 gaming plus no support ryzen 5 1600
i would most likely go with the Asus for compatibility, there is a chance that the 1600 will work on a b550 but no guarantees and sometimes there are issues with m.2 slots so for safety i would so b450
I bought the cheapest AM4 motherboard I found without a lot of research (gigabyte a520m k)
Would it work with my r5 2600? I’m going to use windows 10 + Linux (dual boot) to do gaming and programming
Thanks!
yes that should be fine
Do you think the gigabyte aorus pro ac supports the r5 2600?
it should do from what i am hearing
I am trying the 2600 on gigabyte b550i (itx), got into bios, BSOD sometimes when installing windows- critical structure corruption. other times no BSOD, but windows installation error 0x8007025D. using SN550 nvme. Tried f11 and f10 bios. The 5600x was nowhere to be found and I wanted to use the 2600.. but no luck so far:(
sorry to hear that
Shouldnt you use a dedicated graphics card for the video output? Ryzen 1700x and 2600 dont have graphics built in so they can not send any signal to the display through on-board graphics ports
that is correct. i did install a separate gpu for those cpus i think
@@mikesunboxing Ah ok I saw it was connected, you removed for 2200g. I am thinking of buying a b550 for ryzen 5000 but I am afraid I wont be able to update the bios for 5000 series, I have a 1700. AMD makes things unnecessary complicated.
Was there already an uodate that the 2200G and 3400G are now working on B550?
I'm using TUF B550M plus wi fi and Ryzen 5 3400G and its also doing fine
i think it is slowly coming through although they are not making it that well known to the end users
@@mikesunboxing thnks there and nice vids. Basing also from the forums I've read many users are also having the same setup from different mobo manudacturers.
Nkw the challenge for me is when i get the rtx 3060Ti to my setup if this can still be handled by my 3400g
I recently bought ryzen 3700x with B550 asrock phantom gaming 4 a/c with
ddr4 3100 16gb super 2080s
I experience slow window boot n I experience micro lag takes a while for things to load in gaming it's big difference with my recent e8600k i5 but I find it odd ryzen is slow when it loads to desktop plus idle temp stock 47 to 60 stock speed
sounds like something isn't right there join the discord chat and we can try and figure out what is going on
@@mikesunboxing what's your discord ? Thanks I found invalid discord on your channel
@@heyheysaturday2492 Sorry about that, try this link: discord.gg/gaeeDPw
Hi Mike! Will Asus TUF Gaming B550 Plus Wifi II work with Ryzen 7 2700x?
Manual says it supports the 3rd Generation AMD Ryzen processors/ 3rd Generation AMD Ryzen with Radeon Graphics processors...
it isn't officially supported and some of the USB and PCIe lane routing might have issues but i know lots of people running 2600 etc on the b550 with no obvious issues
Will Asrock A520M-HVS be able to run a 1600AF ???? it doesn't say it can in the official page but seeing your results im wondering.
it seems to from what i am hearing at the moment
People have been reporting Ryzen 2700x actually works on Asus Rog Strix B550 F gaming.
I currently have rog crosshair vi hero. X370. that MB always had memory compatibility issues. so I decided to replace it with Asus Rog Strix B550 F gaming. but still, keep my 2700x. ( if that doesn't work when I get the MB) I will simply order a Ryzen 5600x.
2700x works fine with that board
@@mikesunboxing Thank God for confirmation..
Thanks.
Im about to buy a b550m steel legend. Will It work with ryzen 5 pro 3350g?
It is going to most likely need the beta bios from asrock but it might work straight away if it is fresh stock
