Some noteworthy moments you do not want to miss: 3:10 Koraidon* tries to eat Bulbasaur** 11:52 Salem chews on Ryan’s bass pedals * Yes, I named my bearded dragon after a Gen IX Pokémon. ** There is a Bulbasaur on my hat (along with the other Kanto starters and Pikachu), and he thought it was a hornworm. 🐛
So glad to have been a part of this and to finally release for everyone to see! 🦎 It’s amazing to see the culmination of time and work pay off better than I even imagined! Thanks Kaylene for inviting me on, Mark for mixing/mastering, and everyone for all the support and kind words!! 🙏
First off, congratulations on finally publishing this, I know the anticipation was unreal. It sounds even better than I thought it would, the production on the vocals is insanely well done, the vocals themselves are equally stellar. Loving the precision of the high notes, hitting that second "is there an answer?" feels like the first sip of morning coffee. The screams though! The section around the 10:00??? Like, damn, those are some feral noises. Like stepping on a Lego level noises. Congratulations to Koraidon on his first video feature. He played his role perfectly and definitely has a promising future in acting hehe A big hats-off to Ryan, too, this song is a living hell to play, but he nailed it. Anyone who can make blast beats look easy on a digital drum kit deserves my utmost respect lol And, of course, a shoutout to our little group of Kaylene's Critters Collective. Being present during the streams and getting to meet all of you has been a pleasure and an honor.
Thank you so much Yury! I really appreciate your feedback. I know I said it earlier, but a big part of the reason this turned out so great is because of you specifically. I have no clue what I would've done on the Mikee Goodman section if you hadn't been there 😅
The only cover of Reptile I've seen to have an actual reptile... Absolutely incredible. In all seriousness this is really good. Your screams feel exactly as raw as they need to be, and your singing in general is great. Also give my respects to Ryan because holy fuck, learning this absolute behemoth of a song on any instrument is really impressive. I barely noticed a difference from the original except from the general drum sound, which is more of an intentional decision than any error with play. good shit 👍
@@kaylenebarber Honestly it's not a very serious suggestion considering I have no idea how familiar you are with singing in Japanese, but if you are, I'd love to see you to do "Breath" from the 21st Pokemon movie. It's one of those songs I really wish we got in the localized versions, haha
Just finished my second listen and I still can't believe how good this sounds! Watching this come together has been so fun. Everyone killed it, especially Koraiden. Koraiden best boy
Thank you so much!! I actually livestreamed the entire recording process for this one! It was about 36 nonconsecutive hours of tracking and editing, and 24 nonconsecutive hours of video editing. Lots of work, but totally worth it! 😄 there are a few other great covers of Reptile btw, Victor Borba has one 😊
RIGHT?! I love how that turned out so much that it's my new favorite part of this song! I basically gave my mixer guy (@MarkSchmidtTheRecoverySystem) my raw vocal tracks, and Spencer's stem as a reference and said "try your best" and he fucking nailed it 🎯
I didn't check out many of the livestream videos because I really wanted this one to be a surprise. As a result, I was totally transfixed for the entire 15:18!!! Great surprise to have Ryan join you on the drums. The whole song is sung incredibly, but you really hit another gear in the outro section. Also, your lower harsh vocals were absolutely brutal \m/ This one is gonna be on repeat!
🔥🔥🔥 Absolutely amazing work, especially your harsh voice and growls! Your development of your screaming and growling have truly improved since your cover of Dracul Gras! Really well done, I can tell you've put in 120% for this 15 minute monster of a song!
Somehow I feel like Periphery would be the kinda band that would have a show where they perform alongside a good amount of people who cover their songs lol
omg. that would be so cool!!! I'd be down 😎 Gotta be honest though... I can't do Reptile in one take lol. Not with all those screams. Maybe I could be Spencer's backup vocalist or part of his choir 😂
Cats out here defeating and shedding the reptiles, meanwhile Kaylene be like "This is my child" 😂 Well done to both of you. This was sooo worth the wait 🤘🏻
Someday when I am a better screamer than I am today!!! (Someone told me to do Reptile about a year ago, and I had the same response to them as what I gave you now!)
@@kaylenebarber anytime gotta give credit where it's due still wanna see that wild fire cover in the near future I'm subscribed I'll be waiting!! 😂 haha
Tbh I would actually listen to Periphery all the time if I could hear her vocals on their shit lol I’d love to hear y’all do a Cradle of Filth cover cuz her melodic screaming would be ideal! Bathory Aria would be next level..
@@kaylenebarber Now that I'm off work I just wanted to give more specific praise. First off, there are a bunch of spots where the vocals are a little more spoken than sung, like the intro and the beginning of the second and third sections, and I really like your tone in all of those parts. It just sounds great. I also really liked how you did Mikee Goodman's part. You could have tried to do a deep voice, but what you did had its own haunting, really cool quality. And of course, there are going to be lots of little things you did that are all hard to point out, but it's stuff like the way you sing "night" at 9:25 or the "his" at 12:39, you just nail some of the little things that make it feel like a faithful recreation of Spencer's style.
@@darkphoenix2 thank you for the kind words and thoughtful feedback! 😭 I'm so glad you like it! I was terrified of the Mikee Goodman section lol, but with loads of help from my live chat we figured out a way for me to do it authentically and not cringe 🤣
A lot of time and help from the reptilian overlords 🦎 But fr, it took months of practicing each section piece-by-piece to eventually play the whole song

The honor of getting to sing to your drumming is mine 🩵 I’m so proud of you, you did amazing on this!!!
You really slayed those drums, man! I actually could barely believe it when you sent me the stems! Seriously, phenomenal drum work.
You nailed the part at 8:28-10:15 so well. Well, you nailed all of it but thats my favorite part lol
thank you so much!! 🩵
I love it so much! Cutie lizard and cats the whole time makes it that much more watchable too!
Thank you for watching!! 😊
Everything about this cover is great. The vocals, drums and animals 😊
