Some guy who used to live down my road had this car with the exact exhaust system, it was actually quite loud. I could even hear it through double, glazed windows :D
Thats because the added parts actually do something, even on our 530d that barely touches 260 on the tacho, the wings tips will touch the the car, so with an unrestricted Alpina that does real 300, that wing makes quite a difference.
Well you certainly got a point, but i think thats just because they didn't want to overdue it, also remember that Alpina is not a tuner but has a brand status themselves, so you could say they didnt want to change the E39, but rather go and make it as they would have, and came to the conclusion that the rear just need a decent pipe, which none of the factory BMWs had.

jomo0581 Factory exchausts from 20 years ago aren’t exactly high tech :) you can make the B10 sound muuch better with current performance exhausts
