    That’s really amazing! I ran the Paris marathon this year as well although I was about an hour and half behind you! You’re right that the ramps coming out of the tunnels and the wind were tough at the times but what a beautiful course - really showed Paris at its best! Well done with your time - it really shows that the effort pays off! Thanks Rob

    Congratulations again on the amazing time! Loved the video so thanks both - I too struggled through Bois de Vincennes I think because it has nearly 30m start to end elevation. Good luck with Boston and London. 3 in 3 weeks 😂

    Do sub 2.45 with no gels and no water.

    • @FilmMyRun
      @FilmMyRun  Год назад +1

      I couldn’t run 2:45 WITH gels and water let alone without! But there are plenty who could I’m sure. It’s just having the confidence to leave the crutch behind and use the energy you already have stored. Tell you what, I’ll do under 2:50 with no gels for you next year.

    • @yellowfolder
      @yellowfolder Год назад +1

      Check out "Patrick Martin", ran 2:24 without gels and water, has been running only 3 years or thereabouts. Can be done.

  • @Weegie2
    @Weegie2 Год назад +4

    I've ran 11 marathons and never taken a gel at any of them. Did 3:09 at Valencia 2022. Fasted runs are definitely what's required to get you used to not relying on much additional fuel, the longer the fasted run the better but even just an hour or so a few times a week help a lot.

  • @zacsborntorunrunningadvent3441

    You did excellent pacing 1:28 1st half, Curious if you Carb loaded the 36hrs pre Race? Also did you consume a fairly large breakfast about 3hrs out? Using your fatty acids and stored glycogen means those fasted runs helped your burn a better rate of fat. Would love to hear what you did from 36hrs out. You only had half a banana /60cals perhaps round 30-35k? Cheers

    • @FilmMyRun
      @FilmMyRun  Год назад +1

      Hi Zac. No carb loading. Just eat my normal diet although I might have a 'larger' meal the night before. Breakfast is two slices of toast and porridge or a tin of rice pudding. Yes, half a banana and half a can of fizzy drink (Purdeys Fruit drink) at 30km. For me it's more that if I consume anything it feels like it sits on my stomach and hinders my running rather than helps it. So minimal intake means my stomach stays settled. Fat burn means I have a constant energy supply whilst running at below or just on threshold pace with minimal need for fast acting glycogen.

    Great run Stephen but be careful. With your fluid intake, you are just begging for a kidney stone 😄

    • @FilmMyRun

      Thanks Patrick. I think the idea I’m trying to promote is to drink when you’re thirsty. I definitely drink when I need to.

    • @patrick7228
      @patrick7228 Год назад +3

      @@FilmMyRun I've always been told when exercising that drinking when you are thirsty means you are already too late. However, it seems to be working for you so pay me no mind. Great vid!

    • @FilmMyRun
      @FilmMyRun  Год назад +2

      @@patrick7228 yes that is a very common misconception. Drink to thirst. Or, do what works for you.
