Quietly and seemingly in the shadows of the release of the HP Dragonfly Pro Chromebook, HP released an update to one of their best-selling mid-high-end Chromebooks in the x360 14c. This device has been released as the x360 for many years, but the most-recent design cues have been present since the past two releases. Versions of this Chromebook with both 10th-gen and 11th-gen Intel silicon have arrived and carried nearly identical aesthetics for the past few years; so much so that we made a specific video to help consumers tell the two apart when going to purchase them.
This year, HP has changed a few things with the overall design, but the look and feel remain quite close to the x360 14c Chromebooks that came before. Some of the changes are definitely for the better, and some are for the worse, but probably the biggest selling point to this Chromebook is the history of sale prices that have market the two version prior. While a $699 price tag causes us to pick a few more nits than usual, I'm also looking at this Chromebook knowing that the previous version was recently on sale for a whopping $300 off, and I don't expect this one to deviate from that pattern over the next few months.

I saw this review on last years X360 14C 11th Gen, and I love this chrome book! Can't say I use the flip option, but the upward firing B&O speakers are light years better than previous chrome books I could barely hear! Love your reviews, always honest!

Just to point out, I love your review and unboxing video's. Its actually your videos is what started the idea for me using Chromebooks for work. I recently bought the HP x360, Best Buy is having them on sale for $499. Before buying the HP, I went with the Acer 714. I bought the Acer because of the i5 processor and the durability of the device. However, what I found after using it was. I found the chassy of the device to be uncomfortable to hold as a tablet, I found the speakers to be very lack luster and could barely here people in video's when they would whisper or speak in lower tones so I returned it and got the HP.
What I first noticed about the HP in comparison to the Acer 714, is the HP is more comfortable to hold. I also think the speaker and sound quality is superior to that on the Acer 714. I also prefer the touchpad and keyboard on the HP over the Acer, I find that my typing speed is less impacted with the keyboard from the HP over the Acer. Lastly, I think the management of weight is better on the HP which helps in holding it as a tablet when I am talking sale numbers with my store managers.
The Performance between the 12th gen i3 and i5, I have yet to find any struggles of the i3 with my normal workload. Over the Acer I find the fans kick on less and are also quieter than that of the Acer. I do not find an issue with the 250 knits of brightness, I am always in side when using the HP, and it being only 250 knits at full brightness actually makes it less cumbersome on my eyes during long period of staring at the screen.
The device at $499 makes the HP a steal in my opinion over the Acer 714. Now, don't get me wrong, the Acer 714 is a fine device, I just prefer the build quality and astetics of the HP over the Acer 714.
Again thank you for your video's and hope you will post a review of the HP.

I got this for $499 and love it! It is plenty bright for me but I watch videos in the dim lit living room while my hubby watches TV. The speakers are actually amazing both with and without headphones. I love the keyboard and use it some for work. It's just a great all around and I love how big the screen is as opposed to a tiny ipad. I don't think I would have paid $699 though.

What I really want is HP to put out a new version of the x2 14 Chromeboook. I love having a fully detachable chromebook and I want another one with at 14" screen. The one I have still works but it is starting to show its age.

I have it. It's perfect other than the 250 nits. But for the money with the form factor and build quality it is a better value than the Dragonfly (for me anyway) because even the Dragonfly I only use at 60% brightness to help with battery drain. The 12th gen i3 is fantastic. Great overall feel!

i3 has come a long way as a core processor. Initially you had to upgrade to core i5 to get turboboost technology as the i3 didnt feature it. The latest i3s now do offer turboboost technology as well.

I have last year’s model with the eleventh gen processor and it's still going strong. I can just throw it in a backpack, it's been dropped from tables, if I got mad and threw it at a wall it would stand a much better chance than any other portable computer I’ve ever owned. Sad if that sturdiness got downgraded because that's my favorite thing about mine for the niche chromebooks fill in my life.

I always liked these devices besides the dim screen and how heavy they usually are (the last few have been like 3.5 lbs while the 713 is 3.03 lbs with a bigger screen). Idk why HP and Dell drop iron bricks (/s) in their laptops vs Lenovo, Acer, and Asus)

I have the last generation x360 chromebook with 8gb ram and 12th gen core i3. It is a beast, and is considered a top tier Chromebook Premium on the Chromebook tier system (regular, plus, premium). Additionally, overseas models featured an upgrade to Intel Core i5 as well. Its display is also capable of upscaling to 2k Quad HD or 4k content on youtube whereas my Chromebook Duet 1 was limited to 1080p as max quality. The display is gorgrous as well and hp's all around microedge display with gorilla glass 5 is among the best available.

Hello. I saw one of your video which was very helpful because i want to buy my first ever chrome book so i don't know the basic things to keep in mind but after watching few of your videos, will you suggest me to buy a Chromebook that would meet closest to the following specifications?: THE FOLLOWING are the specifications that i made after watching from your videos:
    1. Minimum 4/32.
    2. Ensure there's sd card slot.
    3. Ips screen only.
    4. Minimum intel 4000 or mediatek mt 8183 series processor.
    5. Minimum 11.6" screen.
    6. Play store supported.

  • @thomasculkin349

As an owner of the previous HP X360 14C, I see little reason to buy the new one unless the 16:10 display is considered vital. Moreover, do not avoid the previous model due to the 250 nit display. That display on mine is very bright! In fact, I'm writing this on my 14C and if I turn the brightness to max, it's way TOO bright! Save money, buy the previous generation, which even a year ago was available for $330.

2:47 between this and the "actually there's some 'plus' models out there that are ever so slightly different than their 'non plus branded' counterparts even though they both have the same model#" i swear HP is hell bent on making it as difficult as possible for people to know what the hell they're buying. Srsly, I just bought a non plus branded chromebook (as the marketing behind the branding isn't really a thing in Canada) with a fingerprint scanner AND 256GB of storage...or at least that's what the spec sheet says so...did i? wtf did i buy? why do i **not** know what I bought even after buying it, this is insane.

    • @bcwrangler

I bought the same model in Canada, the "plus" branding came out after this model was on the shelves up here. The initial update reboots as Chromebook Plus so although no sticker on the outside it is spec'd as a plus.
