- A dozen years of N/A Slant Six racing and evolution has created one of the most original race cars we have ever seen. Four door Plymouth Valiant turned science experiment, turned 11.60 race car.
This is the level we hope to achieve with our own Plan Z.

Over the years my ideas have changed, these high powered super fast 1/4 mile kings are nothing in my mind anymore, its for me like slant 6 vs slant 6, who cares if they take 15s to do the 1/4 mile its still on the edge of your seat action in my book! I watched on youtube a class of 1.5 liter Toyota's circuit racing, the cars were slow, they didn't handle all that well but boy the racing was tight and it was fun to watch! The drivers were having a blast!!!!! To me that's what its all about! Slant 6 racing is awesome!
I like anything modified to within an inch of its life.
Those things probably ran 22s stock so dropping 7 seconds off is pretty awesome !
Making slow stuff not as slow is fun, even if it's still slow 😁
It's different , and I like it.
Not like back in the day when you can go in the grocery store and get a set of valve cover gaskets for a Chevy 350, the damn things were everywhere 😂
@@MrTheHillfolk 11.60's is not " still slow " for anything, not to mention low 7' s in the 1/8!
@@tommyreid2317 what's that about cutting a 15 though?
Yeah when I heard him say 11.6 ,I was like HELLYEAH BROTHER!!
@@MrTheHillfolk 15 is just a general number for something stockish, I am not comparing Ruster or Tonys cars, just a general number.
@@tommyreid2317 Agree! these cars are awesome!
Any slant that turns 11s in the 1/4 mile is impressive. There's plenty of iron with twice the displacement that can't do that. Rock on!
At 2100lbs I doubt there many a v8 that could not run 11's
@@SophiaAphrodite-- ah, but the additional weight of a big block 8, the beefier and heavier 727 transmission, likely suspension mods and some additional strengthening (so that lightened body doesn't turn into a cruller when you stand on the monster pedal) might make that more of a challenge...
Right on!
Got to give this guy credit for doing the unusual and making cool out of it.
Now THAT is what they talk about when they say creative hot rodding.
Well If you usually go to the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals show I can Bring it there in 2022!
Thumb up if you want to see it in person..(If I don't break it by then - and If I do you can help me put it together again before Carlisle! )
I think Uncle Tony should come as well, We can Match Race again... That is plenty of time to Get Plan Z figgured out.
I ve seen that car race at events, it's usually top dawg or runner-up.
Bracket?
Ruster is putting roughly 260HP to the wheels. Not bad for a pretty mild Leaning Tower of Power.
Hey Uncle Tony: At some point, if you could explain the coil pack triggering mechanism he used that would be interesting.
Yes UT.. please! Lol
They make aftermarket setups for installing a crank trigger. Then just need an ignition box that can take the crank signal and output power to run the individual coils.
@@NBSV1 Thank you! Had no idea!
It would be cool to do that on a small block Mopar, or any engine for that matter.
Happy to hear the the Schneider Racing Cams folks getting a mention. I've found them to be a lot better to work with over the years than the big-name companies.
Homeboy murdered that light. Off wit ya head Uncle Tony.
that thing thing left uncle tony in the dust 😁
I sure love to see people racing slants. That one's a little goofy to me, but he's racing, and that's cool. I'm glad you had fun and keep the slant stuff coming.😉😎
All this “slant” talk seems kind of Politically incorrect… I’m sure somebody will ban drag racing.
@@j_freed Are there any slants racing slants?
j freed The libtard rpm act is heading that way!
That car left me speechless!!!!! That was just bad ass!!!!
The external wet sump works nice we had one just so we could run 2 quarts less, less oil to slow the assembly down, the pressure drops and the extra oil would bleed in as pressure dropped. Loved schneider they probably have his grind on file they keep good records or at least used to thats all i used to run, loved that they kept everything on file you could call them and they could grind one just like it they had the big iron cross decals they sent with each kit. They wont send junk lifters they really build nice stuff.
Looks like an old "bomber" class circle track car. I absolutely love it. Thanks for the showcase uncle Tony.
Wow, Frankenruster eats plan Z for lunch! Thanks Tony for sharing this 🤘
Well the guy has a 12 year head-start on Tony for "research & development"........and this was Plan Z's first-ever shakedown runs...........of course it's going to run much faster than Tony's car.
@@howabouthetruth2157 Agreed, Ruster is on a different level. 👍😎🏁
Can tell he’s a racer, knows everything about his car, gets to the cam and valve specs…. Um ah, can’t remember…😂
Right! I personally am wired just the opposite. I can tell you the entire cam card on a build I did in 1994.
I absolutely love the ahem,"enginuity" involved with these guys!!!! The last thing I expected to see under the hood was coil packs and no distributor! Now the Holley was no surprise atall, lol! I've been seeing 4bbls on 6 bangers since I got into cars decades ago in the early 80s,and I can't wait to see whatevers next from their brilliant minds!!!!!
I've seen these cars run at Mason Dixon Dragway, they are incredible and the folks are very nice.
That car is sketchy even by my standards. But seriously, that is a cool car that, like Uncle Tony's does, demonstrates you don't have to spend tens of thousands to build a car.
You don't need door guts where you're going.....
Sounds like he has $10k in parts that he keeps throwing at it to make it a little faster though.
It doesn't seem sketchy at all. He has a way beefier cage than he needs to with those trap times..
@@nolanboyer6883 I was quoting an Uncle tony T-shirt.
@@SophiaAphrodite Still cheap. One of my buddies spent over $50,000 just on his engine.
That thing is sick, homegrown racing at its best.
I grew up with that guy and have bought cars from there lot!! Wow small world!!
I love slant sixes. Currently own one stock one and have over the years driven a few highly modified copies. It was so much fun back in ancient times to outrun a v-8 something or other and when they ask what the engine is I would say “just a grotty little six&”
one of a kind race car .so cool
It would so cool to see that engine with 3 sidedraft Webers.
Yeah why are many of the slants you see equipped with 4 barrels? Webers are a better option, more top end HP.
@@aftermathau Because there’s intakes available that use a common 4 barrel. It’s also the fact that a Holly 4 barrel is easy to come by and reasonably easy to mess with.
To do Weber’s would mostly mean custom making intakes. And, the head is limiting on a slant really making high end hp to the point Weber’s would help anything.
@@NBSV1 Australia has a big inline six culture so I’m used to performance parts for them being more easily available. We can get a triple Weber or SU manifold here quite easily.
I've posted this comment a few times .
Man, that car is kool!
Dad bought a new 1975 Valiant 4 door slant six beige he drove that to new york from wisconsin twice, once with the whole family (4). Great car actually was real good on the interstate and very comfortable! Never took it to the drag strip though. 🤔
Good stuff uncle tony
How do we know it's good it just got uploaded
@@evanc6110 because I already know it’s gonna be good
Damn was hoping to see more details on his body mods. Cool car. Thanks for sharing.
Details: Sawzall, aluminum sheet, pop rivets, duct tape, spray paint. You're welcome 🤣.
The leaning tower of power!!! I love unorthodox combinations like this!!! Its why I love NHRA stock and super stock racing.
Seen that car at keystone raceway park in New alexandria Pennsylvania
My dad had a slant 6, Chrysler Crown marine engine in his commercial fishing boat. It ran great for over 40 years. You know the marine environment and many hours on the engine are tough.....Great stuff Tony. 👍👍👍👍👍Hi from West Coast Canada bud
This car is always at keystone raceway park, quicker than you think
That's where Tony needs to come keystone raceway
I had a 71 Dodge Demon, 225 slant 6 back in about 78 or 79. Put a cherry bomb muffler on it told ppl it was a 340 lol. A friend had a 'Feather Duster', slant 6 w/4 speed. That thing was quick. Like almost every car I've owned, I wish I had kept the Demon.
Back in the early 80's a friend had a slant 6 Duster he called the "Cruster". Name fit too.
Now it would fit the driver...😜
Very impressive ride right there. and it,s not a L.S.
This machine is the essence of hot rodding. Building something totally unique without spending a ton of cash, and getting it to really turn some great numbers. Getting into the 11s in the 1/4 with a slant six is freaking awesome. It can put more than a few mega-buck trailer queen show cars with big blocks in their place.
now thats a real hands on kinda car love his comment ,dont care what it looks like ,sounds like a uncle tony kind of racer
My father had a 4 door Valiant. Slant six with a 4 speed. Only the front right passenger window would roll down, no power steering or brakes. A real handful to drive. Had plenty of fun with it though.
My father used to tell me about a friend of his that raced slants on that very track back in the 70s/80s. He has the slant figured out and he would embarrass V8 guys sign the exception of some built 340s and 327s. Sub-8s were the norm for his DART. Appreciate the content, keep it up!
Greg's father used to drag race an early Dart with a slant with Webers.
keystone raceway in New Alexandria Pennsylvania. cmon out to Western Pennsylvania, Uncle Tony.
That's right tell him to come out
I really like all the thought and details that have gone into that car.
LMAO I was like whose the big hot shot with the super burnout at the beginning ... boy it looked like he was going to win....
(I think the car changed color got a primer coat..) HAHAHAHAHAHAA
Always thought hopped up slant sixes were bad ass since the 70s when you saw them in the 60s n 70s hot rod mags. Great visual appeal, love the Pontiac ohcSprints too
How every race car should be, all function and no flash. If it doesn't make it quicker it ain't on the car.
It's really nice to see non sheep and non cookie cutter gear heads build what was never intended or the scientific side of hotrodding lol
thats cool i love slant six i have 1965 barracuda with leaning tower of power with Clifford headers offy intake really. ruster that a fast slant six
I thought Tony's car was light, did you see those rubber doors on Ruster! Tony can shave more weight off Plan Z yet :)
I did that on the passenger door of a car I'm paused in building.
Havent decided if I wanna do the drivers side too 😂 what the passenger doesn't know won't hurt them 🤣🤣
He said he doesn't believe in removing structure in the passenger compartment
Didn't plan z also weigh in at 21xx
Definitely a lot of ingenuity going on there, talk about having fun with run what you brung.
Tony, he treed you by a good tenth of a second.
How many runs has that car made? Take a guess how many plan z made.
Hey, give my uncle a break! He's said many times that he likes building and isn't interested in driving them... But that brings up the question: Who's gonna drive for you Tony? I work fro room and board... But I doubt I'm worth those wages. Someone asked me if I was any good as a drag racer, I believe my answer was 'how hard can it be?'. But you don't want me. My last girlfriend would have perfect, once you strapped big wooden blocks to the pedals. 4'10' and 85lbs and she wasn't afraid of anything. For a joke I put her in my climbing pack and went to a concert in the park. she'd stick her head out of the top of the pack and scare little kids. RIP Ani, The world is a smaller place with you gone.
Trust In the rust!
Rust is lighter than carbon fiber 😁
Rust is almost as light as a hole. 😉🤔😁
I was a little kid when I saw it, but I'll never forget the numbers, 9.36 @136mph. It was a late 60's valiant with an angry bee's nest under the hood, it was probably all the "whooshy and whistly" noises that pissed them off.
Like to know more about this build, especially the ignition system
Very intriguing seeing the individual coil packs. IIRC later model 225s had a crank trigger...
Dad had an '80 Diplomat, I remember it having a dizzy, but I think there was a 'port' where you could plug in a special timing light to get impulses right from the crank.
I wish I had my old 1980 Mustang with the 200 CID straight six back. I'd love to race it against cars like you all have.
That's how drag racers started, good video
Is he pulling air from the left headlight housing?
Yup
WOW! That thing is sick! This is true American hotrodding! Straight up! That thing is so cool! Very unique, thats the beauty of hotrodding. You can build what you want. Id like to know his firing system for those seperate coils..
effin love it.........and an 11.60 is flyin
Love it. See you in London Ky.
I think I saw this car at Clay City track in Ky.
That’s really interesting car 💯 Hope y’all get to go to the race.
The quack tape on the dryer vent intake really caught my attention.
I bet he's trying to play a game of keeping that fuel standoff/reversion at the carb.
All engines do it ,some worse than others.
Vw air cooleds run so shitty when you remove the (stock) air filter which is really tall to deal with it ,and don't mess with the car.
I was noticing the amount of area it had near the carb , even though it's a bend it's way oversized and really straight down into the carb for a good 6-8" it looks like.
Damn thats badass! Man what a car. I love the functionality of everything. I think of my Toronados front looking similar in the future.
Beware: A big block needs a lot more cooling than a Slant.
@@pookysdad4884 I know im talking more of the lower bumper thing
Impressive no doubt
I'm not to sure if you have done some racing videos on RUclips uncle T but I sure as hell love seeing your car's go flat out on the strip mate, love to see more videos like it
Damn this is starting to inspire me to dig out my basketcase 64 2dr post Dart. It has been sitting for almost 40 years but it has potential to be something like this piece of machinery. I think I would go with a 318 though just because I have a spare 318 and a few old trannies lying around including an A833 4 speed.I think most of the floor is rusted out, but it's nothing some sheets of aluminum wouldn't fix.
I want to do the same thing but life got in the way, I need e d a quick buck, and I scrapped both of my 318 short blocks and some of my parts.
No stone unturned on that car. Much rather see that sort of innovative engineering than the big dollar machines.
Beautiful car, this is drag racing!
Alright UT get that thing running for London!
I saw the buzzin half dozen race in Kearney Nebraska years ago, awesome car!
The Modified hood and fenders are awesome ! Funny Lookin Car.... OH. Funnycar !
I had a 67 Valiant just like that one (INCLUDING THE RUSTED QUARTERS) that I sold for $150 back in 1979! Only diff is Mine was White and completley STOCK!
Seriously COOL!
Oh ya throwing Mike Jeffries some luv!! If you’ve never seen a slant six run in the 10.0s (at least the last time I saw it) it’s something to behold. Buzzin??? Try Blastin…your doors off.
WOW!!! Just wow................Fugly but functional.....love it!!!
I know the BUZZIN HALF DOZEN!!! He raced at my home track, blue with yellow lettering when he raced in Kearney NE. The man was killer on the lights. He raced the electronics/delay box class, I was in the footbrake class so I never ran him.
I hope everyone can respect those numbers and remember it's a slant six... a naturally aspirated slant six turning in those numbers, now that's old school hot rodding.
At 2100lbs a 4 cylinder should impress as well...
@@ronv6360 well no kidding my wife's car has 240hp completely stock and it's a 4 cyl but not as fast due to weight but it would easily be if you tore it apart and reduced it.. but what we are talking about is using stuff pretty much from the 60's with a few modern parts but like he said there's not much performance parts for those types of engines " that's the impressive part"... for 4 cylinders you don't even need to think about it you can shop on Amazon for performance parts.. so ya there's a big difference bud.
Thanks for sharing, and love the Snuffaluppagus Intake hose; was fascinated by his distinction between want and necessity in regards to the coil-pack conversion. It occurs to me that encroaching on 4,000 rpm does sort of relegate it to an eighth mile runner which is cool in its own way. Shame no cam specs, would have been telling and high index of suspicion he was running 5.13 for his mid 7 run. And Tony do not worry about your D-Gear, you wanted a gnarlier cam anyway! Tell your buddy hello, by the way was born and raised in Westmoreland County!
Where they built the VW rabbit for a little while.
@@MrTheHillfolk And filmed Gung-Ho(Keaton)) Coriopolis? I think.
Hey, you got the old brain-pain tumblers working; New Stanton plant where I grew up playing soccer was your reference. I had forgotten that, and oddly enough 07/14/1988(last car of the line) is my birthday and that placed me one week before the major blow-up in Jelly Stone.
@@tylertkelley6779 it's kinda funny among us VW guys , it's like a mecca to travel to.
Haha just to see a closed down plant.
I think I heard it's been subdivided a little bit, and some of it's being used for other industry.
Every once in a while someone will post a pic of their car(VW) out front.
@@MrTheHillfolk Cool, and just one of the hundred plants closed you see as a kid.

CULT LEADER UTG!!!
The epitome of run what you brung. In pinewood derby, you’re stuck with a base configuration and you eake out whatever advantage you can. Same spirit.
I can see plan z having some sheet metal added to the front to eliminate some of the air that piles up under the hood.
that fordor ruster gets up and hauls!!

I will be the first to say that i am not a Mopar fan but damn. How cool is this this car!!! WOW!!

I will really was interested and how he cute or around the ignition coils and you kind of just walked right over that one no distributor how did it happen ?
Likely a crank trigger setup fires the coils. Much like a modern day engine.
@@Kenjh71 Always
He did say the teeth on the cam gear that drives the distributor broke off, which is common when winding these slants up to higher rpm's. He likes the cam he has in it, so he kept it. But that means he loses the ability to run a distributor. That'w why he went with coil-over-plugs.
@@Kenjh71 Look, the guy clearly stated WHY he's running coils over plugs, and all Tony did was agree about how the teeth on that gear that drives the distributor off the cam are prone to breaking at higher rpm's. You fucking guys always out to crucify Tony in any way you can, are a pathetic bunch. Here's some criticism for YOU: You said: "that was what he TOLD before Tony blah blah"........You can't even speak correctly, because it should be: "That was what he SAID"......not "told". Go back to 4th grade kid.
11.60 in the quarter?? Wow. That is very impressive!!!
Nice setup.
I loveit because its not a catalog of aftermarket pieces. It is stock modified almost all around
Not sure if it needs the flow but ditch the convoluted tubing and go with smooth pipe. Interesting protect.
Now THAT is a cool /6 A-body.
I remember seeing this car at keystone raceway in PA years back
That is cool not my style but super cool and I bet it is fun too. Thanks for sharing
Very cool.
What a ripper!
This just in: AHRA track located in Sikeston MO is for sale, just days after Uncle Tony made his first appeat
LOL that intake system is funny!
Tony you need a nose piece on the front of the dart looks like a front of a winebago, absolutely not aerodynamic! I dig the inliner motor, I ran a 235 Chevy with lots of crazy, a cam Ed Iskendarian ground for me. Twisted the yoke off the drive shaft, lift the front wheels. Good fun!
