- Welcome back to Ian Mac Woodturning, This week I'm turning a beautiful piece of Cherry that I got from a scrap pile of wood, I know a local tree-surgeon and a lot of the wood is used for firewood.. thankfully he allows me to grab as much as I want!

Thanks mate!
Birch is beautiful
Yes.
Beautiful.
Thanks Howard
Most definitely worth it, Ian. You know how much I enjoy the grain of different types of wood, and that cherry did not disappoint.
I hope you and your family are well and you are having a mild winter. January has been extremely warm here so we have been having a lot of severe weather. About two weeks ago, we had several tornadoes in the southeastern part of the states that left seven people dead and many more injured.
Take care, my dear friend.
Oh god sorry to hear that Kim! It's been a little snowy but in general not too bad here, stay safe!
Yes, it was worth it!
How lovely!
Oh my, yes, yes, yes! You lucky dog you, what a beautiful piece
Hope you enjoy!
Haha thanks mate!
...yep...worth it...every piece of wood is unique and this one's beautiful...and you did a great job showing it off with the shape!...👍
Matt

Thanks Kathy!
Great job as usual Ian! I'm happy to see rescued wood....here in my town it's difficult to find good wood so I turn firewood or recicled pallets... well done!
Thanks Umberto! Maybe contact some local tree surgeons/landscapers and ask if you can have some of their wood!
Beautiful fire wood Ian.
Cheers Jack! I didn’t see this comment mate

Cheers Jen!
Holy smoke lodge Tonto, sharpen that bit. With all them smoke signals you almost started another war! Nice results!
Haha the thing is, I was there for ages sharpening it and it didn’t make a difference to this piece.
Nice it of cherry that Ian! Let's hope it doesn't crack!!
Haha cheers mate, hopefully it stays in one piece
I’d say it was worth it.
Nice 👍
Thanks ✌
Beautiful piece mate, well worth it!
Cheers Paul
Yes, it was definitely worth it. That vase is absolutely beautiful.
What kind of wood is this? It turned out beautiful.
Thanks Tammie, it's Cherry :)
Ian, very nice piece and glad you have such a good wood source. Using old tack rags for a not skid cushion on the cole jaws is a great idea? How do you get them so stiffened up? Hate to waste good shellac mix to do so! Cheers from Clancy MT
Cheers mate! It's actually a leather cloth, works a treat so you don't mess up the bottom of the piece.
what is the finish that you used on the vase ?
Hi Ernie, I think I used a Shellac finish on this one
turn your speed down while you drill,it will also help with dulling your bit so fast
Will do!
Amazing piece Ian, I do love all your work mate.
The Cherry looks fantastic.
Was it resin you "painted" on it ti seal it?
If so what resin did you use?
Take care mate.
Cheers, Huw
Cheers Huw! I used sanding sealer and shellac on this one mate, hope you’re doing well
