New company driver and been waking up to a little smell in the middle of the night, with mild headaches and uncharacteristic cotton mouth. I got a shallow cab 19Volvo. Thanks for this video. Definitely gonna spray check. God bless
I’ve been getting cottonmouth as well and I thought it was because of the driver seat air gun. There was a leak and I had to seal it off completely, but I was not sure if the same air coming from the bags was the air we breathe every day in this truck. Any conclusion?
Another brilliant video from you! Much appreciated . You left no stone unturned in explaining little details. New subscriber here is feeling much wiser for watching!
I’m leaking from the clamp closer to the turbo (2019 Cascadia) replaced seal and clamp 3 times and it still leaked causing smoke when burning off. This time I put new exhaust pipe, new exhaust manifold piece that 7th injector is bolted to , new 7th injector (injector housing, injector and seal) and new clamp and seal AGAIN! after all that it STILL LEAKED!!
once again. Thank you Brother. I have my 2015 Peterbilt 579. BIG crack in my flex pipe right above my dpf. Got so bad one day i had smoke coming thru the vents! Your freightliner is much more in line with my 579 than the 389 videos. Big help and a money saver. Also have been sick the past few weeks, now i know why. The doctor said there was nothing wrong. Now i know.
@@DIYSEMI Yes sir I did, I’ve been driving for over 30 years. But I bought my first truck back in January. A 2015 Peterbilt 579. It’s simple Cummins engine and even more simple 10 speed. I watched hundreds of videos before I bought because if anything went wrong, I wanted the most cheapest thing to fix. And so far I haven’t been too disappointed. I’ve learned a lot about little things that I never messed with driving for other people, just routine maintenance and other things. The part that really caught my attention was when you said about feeling sick the past few weeks, I’ve been to the doctor and they couldn’t figure out anything, now I realize I probably been sucking exhaust this whole time LOL. I unfortunately was going really fast the other day to get around some slow going windmills they were moving down I 45 in Texas. Had to keep my truck up around 75 to get past the whole line, and when the DPF kicked on, I had white smoke coming from the vents of my air. All that work to get past those windmill pieces and ended up having to pull on the side of the road for 30 or 40 minutes until the truck cool down because I was afraid it was on fire. Just a little embarrassing but live in learn
I’m a company driver in a 579. Having the same problem. I don’t see or smell any exhaust most of the time (especially when I’m at the shop saying I have an exhaust leak) so they just dismiss me. When the exhaust gets real hot like during a rolling regen that’s when i start to smell it. And if i come to a stop during this I can see exhaust coming from under the truck as well as inside the cab. I’m not allowed to work on my truck so I’m hoping if they force a regen they’ll be able to see the leak at the shop
@@depth4676 i fixed my Bellow. But it was an act of congress on the 579. Took the better part of a day, before i realized that the bracket was broken too. Just the bracket to replace would have been a 250 dollar part that they didnt even have in stock. Had to spend the same amount to have a welder come out and fix it. It probably is a crack in your bellow, sometimes hard to spot because it is under the truck where it is. But if you can get under there and find it, the company will think youre a rock star for going the extra effort and being more thorough with a pre trip.
Oh boy I'm doing mines now. I have to replace the rigid pipe as well. Replacing everything from the turbo down pipe to the elbow into the muffler 🤦🏾♂️! Cut off wheel helps a lot. Now I have to source the long rigid pipe. If not might have to run flex temporary. Hoping my local FleetPride has it.
I've had an exhaust leak for 2 days and I told my boss today and she seemed more annoyed with it than concerned. I already have asthma, and I can't sleep with this smell. They are sending me to a FL dealer next week thankfully, and if they insist I drive the truck the hour and a half there they are crazy lol
I have the same thing but i am not sure if it that. I really sick hot headache sneeze and lost my power i can not even walk sleepy. How do you put the pipe did you cut it?
I'm driving a 2003 Freightliner and can't run the heat in cab when I'm stopped only sleeper, due to heavy exhaust smell. They replaced the manifold which was cracked, but it's still awful. I don't have the problem when I'm driving, figure the wind blows it away. He says there's no way to find a pinhole leak. I'm 1:16 into video and praying you're going to help.
“Doing one , might as well be doing both “ . This is a quote to live by! 😆 I’ve heard of accidents happening and families suing the company because of the preexisting conditions before the accident . Just a question for you. How long have you been working on trucks? Were you a mechanic or have any previous mechanical experience or did you just decide to start working on your truck over paying somebody.
Had an exhaust leak years ago and it smelled distinctly different. Right now I'm getting a smokey smell when I run the AC. Don't know if its smoke from the California fires that got caught in there or if it's the exhaust. Haven't checked it yet. Will do so tomorrow but wondering if anyone has an idea of what it could be.
@@bbhwru2 changed the filters under the hood and also the one under the bunk. It fixed the problem. I was just confused because the smell didn't come through until over a week after I left the house during the fires.
I have a question Does the flex pipe goes over the solid one? Or do they just meet in the clamp? I’m doing this as I write this but it’s turning difficult now Thank you in advance Very helpful video
I have an exaust smell in cabin while parked with heat or AC ON but not in sleeper ,took it to few mechanics but couldn't find where the leak is at ,could you plz help ? I have a 2013 Volvo and flex pipe changed recently. Thanks
Have you fix it? What was issue? I have same problem, I might check cab filter housing, it’s under the hood and might have some holes or spaces after cab filter, also a lot smoke coming out through engine vent from engine head (dd60 series) and ventilation housing is located on same side, so that smoke could be coming inside cab through ventilation housing, gonna extend that rubber hose to behind of the cab, gonna buy clear rubber hose so I can see through it ( if it stays clear on inside) might drill few small holes so oil and condensation could drain and not clog hose
When do you recommend to change the transmission fluid? I have a Class B 2013 Navistar International (26 foot), and I’m really curious about when it needs to be changed, and what are the signs I should look out for…?
Man the company I'm at now omg all the old freightliners do this I complain about it so many times I have driven with windows down in the cold this is a real problem in the trucking world headaches feeling weak Getting out the truck shit sad that these companies won't take the time out to correct these problems
bro what i did,i just put a bello, the bello is a little more expesive but you will never have that problem again.the flex sucks, but the bello will work
Two weeks ago replaced 2 DPF filters with new ones, drove about a week with no fumes in the cab, three days ago it started leaking fumes into the cab. Could it be the flex pipe or lose DPF clamps? Any sugge stion would be appreciated DIY.

also can be the exhaust manifold itself, or turbo clamp or s pipe

Probably exhaust flex pipe or s-pipe

Yes, your cabin air filter could be smelly from the smoke smell
Thank you for the quick reply. Will change them out. Thanks for the video. Definitely subscribed.

I’ve been told on weekends Speedco and T/A aren’t interested in providing these type of services. Sucks because that’s when I’ve got the most time!
You need an exhaust detector in your cab or co2detector
yea i gotta do this, or have it done. what do i tell the mechanic? im definitely having this issue, and i do have an exhaust smell in the cab.
tell them replace the exhaust flex pipe...could also be exhaust manifold leaking..have them look
Have you found what was issue? And solution
I had the same problem...I have to take out the whole thing
Great 👍🏻

Does the flex pipe goes over the solid one?
Or do they just meet in the clamp?

Flex pipe goes over
I got to ask. What's the smell of those fumes? How could one tell that the smells is coming from the exhaust system ?
Thank you.
Thanks 🙏🏻
So that's the pipe? great news but I see why this job will take a while

couple hours

speedco was whiteland, in. TA was Russell, IL
I see your fuel caps leak. I’m in a 2023 freightliner and I’m getting sick. I believe this is the problem.
most freightliners do have leaky fuel caps
Can you die if it gets into the bunk while you're sleeping
Yes you can die, buy smoke and carbon detector on batteries in Home Depot, 20$ and put in truck

Check the manual. On a class a truvk its 500,000 miles with synthetic oil
@@DIYSEMI I did check the manual and it says absolutely nothing :-/
