I love how in the midst of a technical and challenging operation, the official term for the hoisted rescuer is "the go-down guy" 4:14 😂 great work and thank you. I've encountered heatstroke twice in my life - it's crazy how your body shuts down. I absolutely could not lift my limbs or form a coherent sentence - 100% sapped of energy, and very dizzy / confused. It's no joke
Best videos out there showing this line of work. RESQ9 shows the value and need of services they provide to the citizens and visitors to Riverside County. Consummate professionals. Semper Paratus
I've never thought about the crucial part of locating the patient(s). I remember one said to swing your shirt or etc. In a circular oscillating motion they can see. At 1:46 its like how can u see a person possibly laying down even under shade. Incredible
Remember Kids: In the Mojave Desert, 90 degrees is serious, 100 is worse and 110F is No Go, even for us locals. Water, cell phone, gatorade, appropriate clothing/conditioning, reliable vehicle you can guarantee finding...
1. Don’t try an incredibly difficult hike in the summer in the desert 2. Don’t try an incredibly difficult hike in the summer in the desert wearing only shorts 3. Don’t hike in the desert in the summer during the day 4. If you must hike in the desert in the summer do it at night with a full moon when it is cool and absolutely beautiful. At least a GALLON of water per person per day
Hydrate before your hike, bring electrolytes and more than a liter of water. You never know, and you could also be helping out someone who was not as prepared as you while on trail.
What is the rectangle item on the left wrist and arm of the officer who guides the line down? It's white and blue. Thank you guys for sharing these as well as for the sacrifices you all make each day. ❤
So glad we found your channel. I live in Palm Desert and we see you all a lot. Me and my wife always say “someone didn’t bring enough water!” When we see the rescue bird. My wife is of opinion if someone is dumb enough to not turn around or not be prepared they should be paying for the rescue. I’ve heard about them having to pay for the rescue, any comment on this? Thanks for the content looking forward to more!
Excellent teamwork & communications.between the guys. I didn't know about putting yr cell ph on airplane mode Thanks for that. I Hope the guy recoved. NZ I LOVE THESE VIDS
As a day hiker (Palm Springs) I think about how to make myself visible or to word it another way more searchable just in case. I wear bright colored clothing and my hydration pack is also a bright color but watching the videos on Hook-in-Hand I'm expanding my thinking about it. I have a small bicycle type strobe/flasher clipped on to my pack for twilight and nighttime but I think I'm going to add a signal mirror to my kit for daytime. Do you as a SAR unit recommend anything else? Lastly do you use RECCO SAR detectors? If so I would definately add a RECCO reflector to my kit.
Place your phone in airplane mode when hiking? I get trying to save battery, but couldn't that prevent someone from trying to contact you and result in them mistakenly calling in a missing persons report?
Screw superhero movies this is the real thing, you guys are real hero’s saving lives, so much respect for you guys
Thank you for the support!
He was in bad shape. You all saved his life

Thank you for the support! Those are the various checklists that we go through before we takeoff and before we hoist. He reads them off to the crew.
@@Hook-in-hand I am amazed by these videos. Our kids are now watching them as well. Thank you again for all that you do.

Would you happen to know the radio channel(s) or freq’s that are used to communicate with the RVC ground crews (Coachella Valley)?
Thx.
