Actually, the angler fish DID have an attack in the original, one where he charges into the wall and makes rocks fall from the ceiling. It's just that he didn't use it soon enough or often enough for it to matter.

The one time he *did* use it he kinda kicked my butt ‘cause I wasn’t expecting it/didn’t move out of the way. (So I kinda just cheese with L2 sword beams aaand...yep then he’s a pushover)
(It’s because LA’s sidescrolling swimming mechanic is super clunky. They fixed it in Oracles.)

Oracles had the single worst swimming mechanics. Those became a meme before memes were even a thing....

Ah no. They really didn’t. Tapping the A Button and diving is literally exactly how it worked for the rest of 2D Zelda. And they actually USED the Swimming...unlike every other game that had “better” swimming. Heck. And Ages? You get an upgrade that works even better!
Compare that to SS where it’s a throwaway and barely used In Its Own Map and is “HELLO Carpal Tunnel!” and is still super clunky and hard to control. Or OoT where...you don’t even swim really. Just slap on the boots.
TP? You know, the best mechanic? You still tap the A Button repeatedly. Literally NO Difference between TP and Oracles, only one’s 3D while the other’s 2D (and the 2D made Actual Use of a mechanic that could’ve been one of the best mechanics/items in TP IF we actually got more Overworld Regions to explore/Swimming Caves with Stuff to Find or connected the world for shortcuts/Actual Use in later dungeons outside of Lakebed
As a kid i literally dug up every piece of soil in the game to find all the shells lol

As a kid I stopped at 20 because no matter how many times I played, it felt like shells 21 through 26 disappeared when you had the level-2 sword

Hey. those chess knights are shown moving *3* spaces forward and 1 to the side. That's not right!
It took me so long to figure out how to do those puzzles because I thought that they would be normal pieces, going *2* forward then 1 sideways
That's the correct movement. The square it lands on when you toss it acts as it's neutral position, which then moves forward one tile, then diagonal one. So it's 2 forward, one diagonal.
@@pison1000 That's stupid. It should obviously be measured from the square from which you toss it.
@@wariolandgoldpiramid it's not a chess piece until it's on the board :O so it's own position should be based on where it lands before moving on its own
@@pison1000 No, look at 4:16. Link stands on the white tile 3 horizontally and 1 diagonally away from the target; 1H too far for his position. He throws the knight onto the other white tile in front of him, 1H and 1D away from target; 1H too close for its position. Either way you rationalize it, this puzzle isn't made correctly.
Technically, in the GB version, you could give up ANY item for the Boomerang.
It's just that the shovel was the best choice as it served little purpose post-seashells.
I could have sworn you could've bought it back in the gameboy one too. I remember swapping out other items on the same file
@@VideoGamer110 You couldn't "buy it back" - you could return the Boomerang and then get the original item back. It seems like with this version there's a way to make it so you can hold all of the items as once.
I always just give him the bow. It just ends up being a crappy boomerang at the end of the game

tiporosso yes the final form of the boss is one tap with the boomerang in normal mode 😂 it’s ridiculous how OP the damn boomerang is, it makes the bow for the most part obsolete other than the occasional while
6 and 7 both say “Changes to Gohma”.

...actually, the Angler Fish occasionally ran into a wall in the Game Boy original. You probably didn't notice because you whup him so quickly. I could be mistaken, though.
Then again, the GBC version screwed up text-box skipping for the Piece of Power and Guardian Acorn.
You can now destroy pots with your (upgraded) sword. 🗡
Crystal switch are now Orange & Blue.
Both of these were in the original
Oramni The crystal switches and blocks were all always the same color in the original: *green*
Puzzle? I was always convinced the horseheads were just RNG in the original.
Also, not true about the armos knight. Arrows work. You just have to be aiming at the right spot.
As a supplement, the arrows specifically work if you shoot the Armos Knight's back; it's shield otherwise blocks your arrows.
... on the other hand, I didn't realize you could just break the shield with your sword :|

Some more things I noticed
Positive:
1. I was going to get the boomerang and out of curiosity I tried trading everything else before my shovel. Much to my surprise he actually also will trade it for your bow and will offer your bow back for 300 Rupies.
2. Although the photographer is gone they left in a few of his scenes most notably the ones involving Marin when she follows you. These are if you take her to the most south western point of the island you get a nice scene between the two and dropping down the well in Mabe village.
Negative:
1. There used to be this neat mechanic where although Link could lift bush's with the power bracelet he could not lift bushes that were over bottomless pits which was neat cause it made navigating the hedge maze less dangerous. That mechanic seems to have been removed entirely.
2. Bombs can hurt you now. Pretty sure in the original you were immune to your own bomb explosions.
3. In the Southern Face Shrine you used to be able to bump knights out of the way with your shield without waking them. Now you must wake them.
major negative:
you can't burn cuccos anymore
I had to look up how to beat the armos since I'm so used to just using arrows. I tried the spin attack too but I guess I didn't hit him correctly.

Near the start when you have Chain Chomp, he will bark at you to dig, if there’s a shell nearby.
what do I do to buy the shovel back? I’ve went into the shop a couple times and it’s not showing up
You have to go back to Toronbo Shores and the boomerang guy will sell it back to you.
You can use your hookshot in the rapids mini games to grab onto vines and trees. I don't remember if you could do that in the original.
Part of me wishes you could just buy the Boomerang for 300 Rupees at this point.
Seashell finder is pretty dope for the new ones.
Do you need the exact number of seashells to hit the checkpoints on the meter, like in the original, or do you get the presents whenever you pass a checkpoint?

This guy did.
Yeah but back then it actually pushed hardware to the limit and was worth the full price. This doesn't even tickle the Switch's power. If you look at how the artwork in BOTW was done WAY more work and care was put into it regardless if you like the game or not it has a LOT more TLC put into it. This was mostly copy and paste. Y'all argue "But it's new models" however it's a 1 to 1 remake so how is it new? It's like VOTE YES FOR NO! signs that mislead you into something politically correct.

So instead of the Angler fish going up and Down he goes left and right not really much of a change there.
I know but he was way too easy to kill going up and down, now you can to swim towards him as quickly as possible giving it some challenge.
The Knight thing probably goes down easier, because as pointed out in the last video, you're able to utilize the inventory better to have the ability to jump, dash and use a sword.
I had no idea the armored knights were secretly gohmas the entire time
took me way too long to realise that I both needed to throw the heads onto the platforms AND that they moved like chess knights when thrown.
Is turtle rock any different from the cryptic original?

I literally found out about buying back your Shovel from Goriya today. I thought the trade for his Boomerang was permanent like in the Game Boy versions, until I watched Jon's Seashell guide and noticed he had both the Shovel AND the Boomerang, so for a while, I thought there was another additional item you can trade. Either way, they certainly added a lot more conveniences to this remake!
I’m sure that Marin is happy about that change to the Shovel!

@@saberofred6449 Enemies and bosses are waaay to easy. And the puzzles are sometimes really annoying. Doesn't make sense sometimes and are not that fun. Newer Zelda got that right. I really wished they made a new game like A Link between worlds that was awesome.
The worst was you have to pause to change items but they fixed it on Switch. The story is boring.
I'm sure LA was awesome in 1993 on gameboy. A new one with better graphics in 2019? Nah they should've made a new one.

No there are two of that room in the original. One facing each direction

lol. i'd never have gotten the chess thing, that'd be the last thing i'd think of since i dont play it, much less recall how the pieces move beside the queen and pawn.
I was expecting them to work like they did in the original. It took me a while to figure out what was going on.

I'd equate it to flipping two coins and trying to get them to both land on heads.
Another massive, much-needed change was translation fixes. This was especially noticeable in the Color Dungeon boss, where the text in the original was confusing and made many kids think that they weren't supposed to hit the boss.
Not true, you can still hit the Knight with an arrow. It's just easier to charge your sword.

5:45 I just got passed this part and what you said about arrows not working isn’t true. I’ve never played the original so I had no idea what to expect but before heading in the pots drop two arrows so I assumed you needed to shoot him with your bow. When you hit in head on his armor completely blocks it and when he jumps you need to position yourself behind him so that you can shoot him in the back. That’s what I did and I had no idea you could spin attack to defeat him. I wish I knew that because I ran out of arrows on my first try and died haha.
I got the seashell finder at 15 seashells, maybe 30 is for hero mode?
Nope. Playing on heroic mode and it’s still 15.

...not quite sure how I feel about the seashells getting increased. I kinda liked being able to have my upgraded sword the second I could swim, so that I had it with me for the better part of the second half
Another change that disappointed me was the Rooster/Boomerang attack.
On Gameboy, you can throw the boomerang and pick up the rooster before it comes back.
Once you do this, the boomerang will come back and spin under you and follow you around as ling as you are holding onto the rooster, acting like a lawn mower blade, destroying everything you fly over.
I'm just glad they've fixed the biggest annoyances from the original. Framerate issues can be fixed through patching, so I'd say if you haven't played it or want a more refined experience this is the version to go for.
But we don't know if a patch is coming
@@sonickhable That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. This is a huge First Party game that only has one flaw people are talking about. Of course it is going to be patched.

@@sonickhable Hyrule Warriors has a lot more going on than this game. It is rendering dozens of more enemies at a time. Also, frame rate was only an issue in multiplayer, where it locks at 30 fps, which is fine. It really isn't a big deal in that game.

I knew the Armos Knight boss was bugged or something. I hit it with literally everything I had (except Pegasus Boot charge of course) and nothing worked. Trust me, I tried for like 4 game overs worth. Only charging at him from the front worked maybe 1/3 of the time, and shooting him with an arrow from the side worked half the time.
I don't know what was up with it but it's easily the worst boss in the game. Just by being buggy as fuck.

I traded my bow for the boomerang, and i never knew i could re buy it which screwed me in the last temple
I was frustrated with the Armos Boss, as I remembered that arrows worked in the original. I think I used arrows on his back to defeat him. I don't think I was swinging my sword very much. He lost his armor one way or another.
All photos should have been replaced with cut scenes.
New game + should unlock the camera to take pictures. Windwaker HD style. (Selfies and All!)
The photo shop should be added back into the game and placed below the fishing area.
i was half expecting one of the changes to be "instead of the level 2 sword for all seashells, its the Master Sword for no reason whatsoever! even we're confused by this design choice." that said, im still expecting them to pull some retcon bullshit like that, like they did with the fighter shield being replaced.
There is a DYKG video explaining the developer team were not allowed to use any estabilished LOTZ lore or assets, like Zelda, Ganondorf and the Triforce. I am pretty sure the Master Sword falls into that restriction
@@EduardoWeidmanBarijan ah so despite the Hylian Shield's particular design coming specifically later in the Zelda "timeline", it gets to ignore this rule and retroactively appear where it did not exist?
i have no problem with it being in ALBW beacause not only is it a game AFTER OoT made it exist, but its also AFTER ALttP. if ALttP itself, story and all with no downsized overworld, had all the shields replaced with Hylian Shield variants. then i'd be mad at the "we did our best to make it true to the original" aspect that they claim with this game. adding stuff in WITHOUT REMOVING/REPLACING ANYTHING is fine. although i guess they did retcon the fighter shield now in ALttP since Link's shield in this game is brought from after his time in ALttP from what i heard. TL;DR they have given me enough reason to not trust they wont just break that particular rule.
@@ArcRay20 After I commented, and in fact the developer team really said that they were not allowed to use the properties, I just remembered that they use the iconic song. So your argument is very valid.

Arc Ray You say you have no problem with the Hylian Shield appearing in ALBW because that game takes place after ALttP, but Link’s Awakening also takes place after ALttP, so I’m not following your argument here

I like all of the changes but the armored knight mini boss caught me off guard is where my only death is so far lol. Also the jump feels weird and I have to relearn it but still love how they handled the game.
Besides the bosses being made a bit harder, didn't they effectively make it even easier by giving you more heart pieces to obtain (and a larger amount of total hearts), meaning that pretty much throughout, you can take more hits? I actually hope that's not the case.
@@amburprice8479 What do you mean still? I'm fine with the way it was. The problem is what I mentioned - if it's actually the case. I find don't like the idea of Hero mode because it changes the experience of the game. I like the idea of real challenge at whatever points but being to dig or otherwise search for hearts in grass, shrubs, or whatever jars/containers.

Sucks that the camera quest is gone. Really no excuse for that as it’s probably the most memorable quest in the game.
I think it's because some of the photos were only possible to get at certain points in the game. They changed all the other stuff that was like that
I'm really disappointed that it's not there since I never played the DX version.
I didnt use my sword against armos knight. I jumped behind his back and shot him with an arrow. I didnt even know I could shatter his shield with a spin attack :p

Really not a fan of the art style (or the price point) but I don't think I can stop myself if they Remake The Oracle games as one title.
BUT they need to do a few things.
Have multiple save slots.
Let you choose either game to play first.
Include the OPTION to use the old passcode but also either have a clip board to save the code or just make it automatic when you return to the first game.
Include some kind of checker so you can see what item the Gasha trees will drop.
Include a full Strategy Guide either with the Cart or in the Game itself. Yes, I still get lost to this day.
If they use the same art style, gross, but I love the Oracle games so I'll get over it. The only way I'll buy this one though is if they include it with the New Oracle games.
All three GBC games on one cart would be worth the $60-80... maybe $50-70.
This is now my favorite top-down Zelda of all time. This is classic-style Zelda at it's absolute peak.

Gohma still dies to Arrows, you're wrong about that change. Don't you think it's wierd for the game to give you a bunch of arrows right before you fight them and it not work. You have to hit the hole it's armour or the just bounced off. The spin attack also working is just a nod to the glitch in the original game.
