If you own one you would not complain, had the mk8 for a couple of years you get used to it and its fine, this issue is over exaggerated IMO at least lol

Never released on the standard wheels so don’t get too excited because most of the UK dealer stock will be on 18s which probably will be same as those terrible ones on Mk8 (which are still an option on base GTI in Germany)
Should take out the side logs, will be a much cleaner look.. Also, the large screen infotainment looks terrible. Still prefer the smaller streamlined one in mine.

Haven't been a massive fan of the recent Golf models, but this particular example looks really great! Almost perfect, aside from the lack of a red stripe on the front grill.
i have never been a golf fan, but man, this FL makes it great looking.... i dont even mind tablet and no physical HVAC... dealbreaker gloss black touch buttons on the steering wheel are gone, this new matte real buttons are superior... also i would choose microfiber seats, the best (looking) option... i just wish a r-line awd will come soon. sadly its not available for the strongest 2.0tsi version on my market... also no manual is sad. :(
It's obviously to integrate more of the cars functions into the screen, which no one wants, I really wished car companies listened more to the car enthusiasts instead of the dumb mindless ev drivers that want electric cars with every aspect of the car integrated into a gazillion inch screen cuz that's sadly where things are moving to at the moment
For me I feel they cover to much windscreen view even though they don’t. It doesn’t make sense but at the same time it does. Just give us a built in one like the mk7.5 golf’s clean tidy dash & entertainment system. I hate them on the top bolted on, it’s too much clutter.

Am surprised they didn't aim to reteofit the control dial from the tiguan into the golf - also curious about sound dampening and noise insulation on this model. The 7.5 seemed to be quieter than the 8.
Well done Thomas a great review as ever and I am pleased to see VW work hard to fix many issues of the mk8 and I am sure it will be a much better car but why go back to a radar for the front assist etc in the lower grille I prefer the mk8 arrangement with it behind the badge
I've got a standard stock mk8 golf r and took it to the autobahn recently and got 258kmh out of it and it felt like it would keep going. I thought they're limited to 155mph??
Does it have W rated tyres? Later Mk8 Golf R’s switched from Y or Z to W and the Performance Pack limiter went from 174 to 167mph. I assume that was a cost saving exercise to allow for slightly cheaper tyres.
I think GTI still had 17" available a little while ago, which is the smallest size to fit over the brakes. According to Jonathon Benson's testing (on a Mk7 GTI), the 17" tyres were fastest in the wet (since more sidewall = more deflection, generates more grip on wet tarmac) and the 19" were fastest in the dry (presumably because the sidewalls and tread are better supported under lateral load, even despite the greater rotational inertia). 17" will certainly give the best ride.

Car reviewers spend a lot of time discussing the the back seats but never talk about the drivers seat. Seats appear to be getting smaller/less supportive especially for taller drivers (BMW). Bottom cushion in a lot of cars is very short (Toyota/Lexus) and I think you should discuss this or even measure the seat bottom cushions to encourage manufactures to make better seats.

I’m asking that you expand your reviews to cover the drivers seat in more detail- something no other journalist does even though it is the part of the car the driver interacts with the most.
No power increase... I'm not so sure its quite worth the thousands in difference that this will cost compared to the regular GTI, especially in the UK where the Clubsport will definitely start above the £40,000 luxury car band, the power difference isn't big enough - IMO, the main selling point of the CS. I'd take a regular GTI with a few thousand in options instead.

Why can't they put the ACC behind the emblem like they used to? I think the emblem lighting up isn't worth risking the adapter being damaged through rock chips. The side badges being gone takes away from its looks.
The interior was already a joke with all that glossy black plastic showing every fingerprint and scratch like a badge of honor. But the exterior? That’s a whole new level of masochism. It’s as if they thought, “Our customers need more despair in their lives. Who needs hobbies or happiness when you can have the soul-crushing burden of maintaining a shiny, impractical facade?”
I have a 22 plate Golf and won’t get another. The heating controls in the touchscreen border on ridiculous and dangerous, at night the heating controls don’t illuminate so you need to go through another menu. The lane assist drives you into pot holes and huge puddles, you can’t turn it off permanently so need to remember on every journey. The worst design I’ve ever come across, I hate it.
The new gli not getting this infotainment is really a kick in the face , already haven’t given it the hp difference now the gti gets more power and even more different

Mk8 is OK when you are used to it. I went from mk7 gti to mk8 clubsport, love it although took a few weeks to get used to it
Pulsing Start button is not a new feature, it can be coded easily with OBD11 also in older models across the VAG group vehicles.

I have a 22 plate Golf and won’t get another. The heating controls in the touchscreen border on ridiculous and dangerous, at night the heating controls don’t illuminate so you need to go through another menu. The lane assist drives you into pot holes and huge puddles, you can’t turn it off permanently so need to remember on every journey. The worst design I’ve ever come across, I hate it.
Question for everyone. what do you think about buying a car like this and then install LNG or methane in the trunk. Uses less fuel.
Fuel is very expensive.

LNG is a poor cylinder lubricant compared to petrol.
