Red Wings coach actually said 'puck' a bunch of times, which isn't that surprising given it's a hockey game. "Watch the puck! Watch the puck!" Solid advice!
I want the "it looked cool" rule to go into effect so i can laugh my ass off when a ref comes out onto the ice saying "after further review, the save didnt look nearly cool enough. we have a good goal"
"The judges only scored this save a 8/10, so the call on the ice stands: we have a goal."
I mean the offside goal that Carolina scored against Columbus in 2021 comes to mind that they don't care about the rules all that much. It was a miscommunication and Carolina shouldn't have been awarded the goal, but "to make it right," they killed the last 45s of a penalty kill for Columbus (which was unprecedented).
Columbus lost 6-5 thanks to that massive error.
It honestly wouldn’t be that hard to make a rule that says “if it enters the glove before it enters the net, and the goaltender doesn’t drop it afterwards, then the goalie had control and play is dead, so no goal.” Problem is that the ref’s whistle is no longer prime in this situation, which would make it a pretty unique exemption, and lend credence to different complaints of “… Oh, but the ref should have blown their whistle already.”
Would probably also want to say that the goalie can’t move their glove into the net purposely, but that could be hard to judge.
Jonathan Quick almost had a “if you’re a goaltender..” moment against Edmonton, but he managed to bail himself out beautifully.
You could say he was... quick about it.
i have a sneaking suspicion he might be inducted into steves paddle save emporium next week
A dang-it turned hat-pick so Quick
@@jonokiller "That's a dang-it ... but not for me!"
14:04 As a fan who is almost through watching his first NHL regular season, I flipping love that you explain the rules for newbies like me. I understand icing, offsides, too many men, slashing, and some forms of high-sticking, but your commentary and explanations are really helping me figure out the more complex rules like goalie interference.
Also I watched a lot of your older videos (from the last couple years) and I love that you brought up how confusing the game can be for new viewers. Thank you so flipping much for your flipping explanations, truly. : )
Last season was my first season and I learned a lot this way as well.
@@LisaMarieFord my biggest pet peeve when getting into watching hockey (especially as a girl, it’s not uncommon for people to jump straight to the “oh right you’re just a girl obviously you wouldn’t know) is when people wouldn’t explain and just said “how could you not understand it?” but when hockey fans actually explain things that truly don’t make sense to an outsider, it felt so nice to feel like i knew what was going on and by another fan
@@Emma-lb2mu In my two years of learning all the rules, reading the regulations, searching for terms, watching videos like this, and watching Penguins and Leafs games (mostly) I learned a lot. I’ve never been to a real game. Unfortunately I too learned there’s a lot of trolling of girls who like hockey and who play hockey. On NHL posts people get downright mean, to put it VERY lightly, about videos of young girls playing. I’m a grown woman and deal, but geesh the jerks that attempt to launch absolutely terrible comments to insult not only my intelligence and looks, but about my very existence in this life is just astounding. 😳 I learned long ago to not let those things harm me, but the stuff some say about kids isn’t right and could be very harmful at those impressionable ages. I say this so you can be aware of them and use block if you must, but don’t let troll deter you as there are a lot of great folks in person and even online who like to talk and have no problems answering questions.
I enjoy getting into discussions with folks, especially those who don’t mind explaining things. 😏 Admittedly, I also take some joy in “correcting” trolls who flings insults with stating the rules that they had wrong.
I don’t know which team(s) you follow but listening to Penguins games on the radio with Josh Getzoff calling the plays VERY well and Phil Bourque offering commentary has been extremely helpful. The Ol 29-er was very helpful in answering questions on there at times too. I haven’t heard plays called as well on TV or other radio broadcasts yet.
@@LisaMarieFord i totally agree. even my brother liked to bug me about it and would often say things like “you only like hockey for the guys” and whatnot, and another guy told me i was a bandwagon fan because i started watching during the playoffs. i did start paying attention to hockey in the playoffs (i’m an oilers fan), but my team went pretty far and it made me want to be a fan even more because it was so interesting and so exciting. i love seeing stats of other teams, random records that players keep breaking, and all the confusing things about hockey. it’s so entertaining and i’ve made so many friends through loving hockey. also, if you ever get the chance to go to a game, it’s such a cool experience. going to a game after watching it on tv for so long is really cool to see the players in real time and almost remind you that they’re real humans and they’re actually doing that in real life. it’s really interesting, but once you start it’s hard to stop, i’ve spent so much money on tickets…. hahaha.
i love listening to jack michaels commentate the oilers games. he’s so into it and gets so hyped up it keeps me in the loop the entire time and i find him and louie debrusk are really good at going over random things that happen as the game goes on.
Even the refs don't understand the rules so don't worry haha.
Yo the "abounded radio shack" killed me LOL
Once again I am asking wtf is goalie interference
Totally missed the joke when he was covering Lalonde's "choice words": you can't going around saying flip so flippantly
I love Mantha...but it's worse than just giving it away in a tied game. He gave it away in a tied game that was previously THREE TO NOTHING! The Caps battled to tie that game, and literally gave it away. I think I literally said out loud "Mantha, my guy, that's a dang-it."
Wait, there are Caps fans who love Mantha?
@@VeggieTart Lol right? That's so surprising to me.
This has to be Manthas youtube account, never seen anyone with a positive opinion regarding Matha amongst cap fans
The exact reason why Steve Yzerman traded Martha right away. His compete is so low. One of the laziest players in the league
Mantha has the talent to be a great player. His biggest problem is he’s just super lazy. On his turnover, he was being lazy with the puck, and then when he did turn it over, you can see him just floating in the neutral zone, not trying to get back. He did this stuff all the time as a red wing, and it made me so angry watching him do it.
14:14 it, by definition, should not have counted. the puck was under Ned’s skate and Zucker, with no view of the puck but knowing it was somewhere under Ned, pushes Ned’s pad into the net. the fact that they messed that up after *multiple* reviews is astounding (but not surprising)
Georgiev's give away last night for the Wild's first goal is a dang it. And that Makar pass, the Avs took personally and told the Ducks that was the only freebie they got
Last night’s goals
1) Georgie giveaway
2) Sammy G not remembering defensive fundamentals
3) Makar hesitating
4) Empty netter is empty netter.
@@SRTifiable cope harder aves fans
Don’t worry, Georgie will get in next week!
@@poopmcgee2410 Who hurt you? Are you a Wild fan? Are you sad that you never do anything in the post season? 😢😥😥🤣🤣🤣
Edit: Trolls are my favorite 😂
@@SRTifiable jeez dude, relax and do something productive in your free time...
I feel like NHL players could benefit from watching Steve's dang it
Markstrom sure isn't watching.
What makes you think they aren't? We know Brad Marchand does, lol
Gotta shout out Minnesota Whitecaps goalie Amanda Leveille for having an "If you're a goaltender...TEND THE GOAL!" moment in the PHF Isobel Cup final of all places.
Oh I watched that in real time. That was a DOOZY.
In a game they lost in overtime, no less 😬
Whooohooo! Always excited when Steve’s Dang it’s gets posted!!👏
As a long time Wings fan and as far as I can tell; goaltender interference is when you are on the Red Wings team and anywhere within a meter of the crease. This I pull from my many games watching when Tomas Holmström was active.
We still haven't paid enough of our dues for that man's menacing violence toward NHL goalies everywhere inside the crease. A mighty hefty tax to be sure.
When a picture of Homer attending a game in Sweden made the rounds on Twitter last year, dozens of the replies wanted to know if he was assessed a penalty in the stands
I think the league probably thought Ned was "kicking to stop Zucker from scoring" and that's how the puck crossed the line
Which is... Well, Derek Lalonde said it best; "I thought that was goalie interference."
All those things said, I am deeply invested in the Red Wings and probably a little biased so do with that what you will.
The reason why Ned's shate took the puck over the goal line was because Zucker pushed them both in with his stick. That should be no goal. And this isn't the first time this season that Zucker has done that.
It was nice for Newsy to channel Jim Leyland in honor of us approaching Opening Day
I love how you can actually see Steve's recording in one of his frames behind him lol
Thank you for being the comment I was looking for
@@camim7467 lmao short attention span gang
Bettman : No one is tanking
Khudobin : LOLL
Omg I just busted out laughing at that last one. Like DUDE THAT’S THE WRONG TEAM. I’m dying man. That’s a dang it
my favorite thing about the last one was definitely the commentator.
*"WOAAAAAAAHHH"*
Craziest thing about Lalonde's ejection is that's his first ever... like as a coach or member of any bench. He is a very clinical coach so to see him THAT upset is pretty rare, but of course we all understand because what a ridiculous call.
Mom we want Jomboy lip reading!
Mom: We have Jomboy at home
13:08 - Jomboy at home
I was at that Preds game and when Juice did that I screamed "if you're a goaltender TEND THE GOAL" but much love for Juice lol and #FireHynes
Saros: I wanna be a defensemen today
Seattle: Funny guy that.
*TOLVANEN:* Hey! I'm not on your team anymore, but thanks for the puck, Juuse!
Oh my god, how did they allow that Pens goal?!
i believe they think ned swung his leg back on his own, possibly in motion before zucker pushed him further
Steve channeling his inner Jomboy on that lip reading.
You can watch Steve twice in this one.
I love watching highlights from hockey games and just knowing what's going to show up on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I could die happy now!!
Love the Goalie Interference commentary from the Wings Pens game - there was some strong feelings in the SDPN game discord chat
I love the shadow steve behind him in one of the photos lol
"Just don't allow it cause it looked cool"😂 You've got my vote! Habs fan and always tune into the Dangle show. Keep it up!
When the blue jackets goaltender flubbed I immediately said “this will be in dang-it’s”
I was there for the Saros blunder and as soon as it happened I knew it was gonna end up here lol
You couldn't add 12+4. lol That's a dang-it.
The NHL's goalie interference rule is written on the back of a bottle of Canadian Club.
Mark my words.... that missed call that sent Lalonde to the moon will happen again the playoffs. Likely an OT goal.
I don't want to swell your head, Steve, but you are the best thing that has happened to hockey broadcasting since the "He shoots, he scores!" of Foster Hewitt. "If you're a goaltender..." is now a meme. Keep up the good work.
Wait until you see Felix Sandstrom's giveaway from the Sens/Flyers game tonight!
The Penguins/Red Wings goalie interference no-call was the biggest joke of this week. How do you get a call so wrong, not even just that the call "stands", but that it was "confirmed".
Awesome Work Bro, Thanks 👍👍👍 Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮🇨🇦🇫🇮🇨🇦🇫🇮🇨🇦
that last dang-it hurt - quite literally. I have a cracked rib and I laughed a bit too hard. ouch!
🤣🤣🤣 As a Red Wings fan, I thought.." can't wait to see this one on Dang Its"
Honerable mention for Both Bergeron and Kuraly breaking their sticks on the opening draw of OT.
I was playing a tournament game in Missouri, and I literally heard a ref say that goalie interference was when a goalie interferes with a player 😂😂😂😂😂
When it comes to refs, I’ve seen some stupid “things”. The avs block shot has happened a lot, I’ve seen them take out players (and lead to an opposition goal), they’re always in the way for “clearings”, and I’ve seen the stupidest thing… take away a goal because he intended to blow the whistle.
Something tells me sports in general would be SO much better if there was a legit "Rule of Cool"... like, ya thats TECHNICALLY against the rules, but damn that looked cool, so lets let it ride, lol
Thank you for this episode 😂 I about died laughing 😂
Gave a good chuckle at the voice over 😂
10:41- that's a dang-it, spelling name.😂😂.Ned, Nedskiy 😂😂
For the goaltender interference call, I think the reasoning is neds leg was already going to cross the line. He slows down, the he starts accelerating and then just after that zucker pushes the pad. Pretty borderline, and I saw it live with a pens fan coworker and he thought it was going to be GI, but that was my thought process for why not
To me, it looks like he's kicking out, but the stick going *under* the pad makes it slip a little further than he intended. Doesn't look like a push, and I can see why the goal would stand since it's very difficult to tell what caused his foot to go back across the goal line.
You can never prove that the puck was going in otherwise. You can prove, however, that before the puck went in Zucker's stick made netward contact with Ned's leg. I was at this game live myself, and I was bereft when Lalonde challenged the call because I didn't see any reason to, but when I got home and saw all the different camera angles it's crystal clear that by the precedent the NHL has been setting this should have been reversed.
I'll take my solace in the final score at least :b
I was at the game for the Saros play and knew it would be showing up here.
It was at 13:46 that I noticed the reflection of Steve from his monitor in the frame slightly below the right side of his face. I could not stop looking at Frame Steve for the rest of the video.
Clips without the commentary:
0:34 - Reeves smells salts
1:12 - Saros leaves his net
2:33 - Ingram leaves his net
3:34 - Makar turns it over
4:25 - Verhaeghe tips it into his own net
5:20 - Mantha falls asleep
6:47 - Murray doesn't rob Tkachuk by an inch
8:31 - Ref blocks an empty net goal
10:13 - Zucker pushes the goalie/puck over the line
13:10 - Detroit coach swearing audio dubbed by Grover
14:44 - Khudobin handles the puck for the first time ever
As my mom’s piano teacher once told her, and she’s since told me: If you’re going to make a mistake, make it loud. Don’t hesitate, and don’t waffle. Pick a path, and be willing to be wrong.
Khudobin yelled it at himself too there. 🤣
13:30 he was quite flippant with his use of flip
Steve after screaming for 10 consecutive minutes: let me have my FIRST coffee.
Um. What?!
Wait how is this not Goalie Interference?
Apparently the hockey rule book is very similar to the American football rule book: it has exceptions to the rules, conditions where the exceptions apply (or don't), and exceptions to the exceptions.
And Producer Nick is 100% correct!
Steve, you and I both know no one knows what goalie interference is. My understanding is goalie interference is whatever will make me angry if they call it, and is not whatever will make me angry if they don’t call it.
Im just watching the steve in the picture behind steve lol
"You are allowed to break the rules a little"
Is the only quote i need to describe hockey rules.
I just noticed that you can see Steve's reflection in the picture frame underneath the Gretzky doll, and now I can't look at anything else
best dang its ever. Steve you were on fire!!
Flyers game against the Senators was filled with dang its. Flyers outshot 46-11 (dang it), take the game to overtime (dang it), and then lose on a Sandstrum turnover (dang it). Crazy freaking game!
14:42 methinks this is now the easiest goal of Conor Sherry’s NHL career, beating out that goal from last April when the Flyers forgot how to play defense (which also appeared in Dang-its)
There was a time out in that Kings/Flames game where the refs were doing everything they could do to give the Flames an extra goal...including calling an eight minute replay on a non-goal... That is definitely a #Dang It...
My sister-in-law gave birth to twins in less time than those refs trying to gift the Flames a goal...
As a flames fan I think a case can be made both ways but I think they made the right call. They still took the empty netter that we scored because it was “offside” so I don’t really think anyone was trying to gift the flames anything. But you are a Kings fan who is entitled to their own opinion.
I bet "Flip" is his favorite 4-Letter F Word
I was at that Preds/Kraken game (cheering for the Kraken) and as soon as that goal happened I said out loud "oooh that's a dang-it" and here it is!!
I'm not even a Leafs fan, but I think if the goalie catches the puck in the glove in the air, it shouldn't matter if it "crosses the line". Especially in the case like this where the glove is on both sides of the line and it's the netting of the glove that expands that allows the puck to "cross the line".
Goaltender interference is the NHL's version of what's a catch.
Thanks again Stevie for another great FLIPPIN Dang it's vid!!!!!!!! 😂
8:05 It looked cool dont allow it... but what if it was cool and you allowed it? Game 7; round 1, OT winning goal scored by Mathews so its not a goal?
Zach Hyman had several goals called back for "goaltender interference" for doing WAY less than what Zucker did...
#FLIP
I have said this many times this year. I honestly do not know what goaltender interference is anymore. I have seen cases that I would think should clearly be interference that do not get called and then the most slight brush-up against a goalie get called interference. It is a total crap shoot with seemingly no actual standard anymore.
That last one hurt.
2:11 Saros was passing to Tolivanin who was his teammate... and then was waived and picked up by Seattle
I’m not a perfect english speaking guy but thank you for making me laugh’ especially with the last dang it. Very much appreciated.
i'm pretty sure that coach was actually saying "What the puck!!"
I'm pretty sure Khudobin actually thought the Blackhawks were wearing their home jerseys, saw a red jersey, and passed it to him. Looks like he realizes it about 0.1 seconds after it leaves his stick. Oof.
Heiskanens goal against Seattle that bounced off the boards is a big dang it
Steve could you please move the monitor so the reflection of your camera feed is not in the background? Thanks!
The hat pick was Murray’s rotating-turned-back save.
The dang it was the follow up. One play was truly both.
I was at the capitals game when Sheary scored, and the first thing my friend and I said to each other after we stopped laughing was “if you’re a goaltender, tend the goal!!”
Abandoned Radio Shack 😂😂😂
Solid skate blade save lol
Well, flip. I think he had a flipping good reason to flip the flip out and scream what the flip a whole flipping lot.
The call on petterson's high stick that cost Vancouver the game should be on Dang-its
Last play makes a lot more sense when you consider the Hawks are fighting for 1st place in the Bedard sweepstakes.
Giving Jomboy a run for his money there Steve - not that this was a really challenging one 😂
You didnt have to do us so dirty Steve. I finally reached acceptance phase with the Mantha giveaway and now we're back to scratch again.
I'm kind of disappointed the Logan Thompson if you're a goaltender (almost) didn't get on here. He just went to the bench, nobody knew why, then the goal was disallowed since the net was knocked off. Dang it all up and down as nobody knew what was happening.
Not to mention he got reinjured after
I was there for the Avs game and watched that shot hit the ref....soooooo pissed that hit him...Avs still got the good win!!!
The goalie interference call is why the NHL will fail some day soon. It would have been pathetic if the ref simply missed it; however, given they have video from multiple angles and still concluded what they did, that's just blatant stupidity and is why they need a new better eye-health plan.
I really think, that review is freaking worthless, heck, just go back to one referee, if two can't get the job done, save the money.
Slightly different perspective. If you align the timing of the different angles, you can see that the puck is pushed into the net by the goalie’s skate before the skater touches him. So it wasn’t interference because play should have stopped by that point.
The wings vs pens reviews r the reason they need to put cameras in the posts of the net looking directly across the goal line so they can see if it's definitely in or not and should have some in crossbar looking straight down too and in the posts the should have a couple cameras in each post at different levels!?
I'd love to go to Arizona and watch the Oilers play. What a cool atmosphere to see your favorite team. Destination hockey?
McCabe’s giveaway to Florida within the first minutes of last night’s Leaf game better be at the start of this video! 😣
Pierre Mcguire once floated the idea of taking a ref off the ice and putting him in a video booth with a headset connected to the on-ice official. I honestly think this is one of his better ideas, it would declutter the ice and allow for faster reviews and fewer missed calls
Goalies spend 1/2 the game watching, the temptation to roam and handler the biscuit is strong, especially for some, often it doesn't end well.
The Flyers game just got over. My home team. And Sandstrom made a horrible mistake which sold the game in overtime as well.
