      The reason it's a touchdown is because the rule for who "wins" a contested catch between the offense and the defense is shitty and doesn't take into account who has better control of the ball. By rule, if a player from each team is "fighting" over a catch, the catch goes to the offense, no matter what. Even though Seattle's WR barely has his hands on it and it's clear the GB defender has it secured in his arms, the ball is, by rule, in possession of the WR. The NFL's rules suck ass.

    Some context for the altuve clip. This was before a major sign stealing controversy emerged that revealed for the two years prior to that play, the astros had been stealing pitching signs by watching the televised broadcast and banging on trash cans when the pitch was offspeed.
    There were rumors that because they hadn’t been caught yet but there were no cans heard in 2019, that they might’ve switched to more covert methods (like a buzzer under altuve’s shirt). This was only fueled by altuve telling his team not to rip off his shirt and dodging the question after the game.

      Yeah, I totally understand 10 second run offs, but they should NOT happen when the refs are the ones who need more time doing stuff. Ref calls a time out because of an injured player, absolutely got it, refs call a time out because they want to look at it under instant replay, you can't penalize the offense for it. The rule of a run off is based on the offense having no time outs and the offense does something that would have stopped clock, no referees not being able to do their job properly and needing some help.

    The genesis for all of those controversial NFL catch/no-catch calls is the Calvin Johnson TD catch against the Bears that was overruled. That single play set the precedent for over a decade to come. The Dez Bryant call happened because of the Calvin Johnson call.
    The NFL has somewhat recently wiped its hands clean of the burdensome Calvin Johnson precedent. They've officially disowned it, meaning that plays like the Dez Bryant play are now a catch going forward.

Getting full control of the ball with two hands, taking two steps, then putting the ball securely in one hand, and then landing on the butt before leaving the ball on the ground, and then called a touchdown on the field. Still the Red Sox beat my Cardinals in the series. Most people probably forget in the long term run that this was game 3 of the World Series. St. Louis hosted games 3, 4, and 5. Boston would host the first two games and the last two. This means that even if Boston won this game, they would be celebrating in Busch and not at Fenway if the results remain the same. And if you look at the four World Series that Boston has won since Bambino curse was broken, three out of the four have been won on the road.

    13:40 I will never agree with a ruling that continuation of a play can determine a completed pass. In this case, he had possession while crossing the goal line. The exact instant that the ball crosses the goal line it is a touchdown. The same with Calvin Johnson and the Lions against the Bears. It was a touchdown and the rule change that led to these idiotic calls should have been abolished long ago.

      The rule actually makes a lot of sense if you think about it because it allows refs to make consistent calls. On top of that it makes the game more competitive as you have to make sure you have control the entire time

      @@rongilbert4025 Actually after reading through the rules, I definitely see where you're coming from. The rule makes sense to me that he didn't survive the ground, however that all happened after he passed the goal line. Within the rules it says anything that happens after the ball crosses the goal line does not matter and the result is a touchdown. Granted I am reading the rules for 2021 so maybe they were different but I don't think so. So I am still in favor of the concept of surviving the ground, however after some research I think this particular play should have been a touchdown. Weird how they were so focused on surviving the ground and basically forgot about one of the most basic football rules. Obviously I am no analyst so I could definitely be misunderstanding something but it just seems kind of weird.

    2:36 Golden Tate did score the touchdown. A simultaneous catch goes to the offense, always. However, and I say this as a Seahawks fan, the replacement refs missed Tate pushing off on the defender #37. That should’ve been called as offensive PI, negating the play, and ending the game with a win for the Packers. After this game, the league renegotiated with the referees union and the replacement refs were gone.

      @stevestarr3160 3 года назад

      @@humanhighlight1 really? if you actually watch the catch you will see a one handed catch by Tate which is a very legal catch and his hand never came off the ball. If you don't think that should count as a catch then I would suggest you take away ALL one-handed catches and see how you fare at that point. But the miss of the push-off penalty is a better argument for not getting the touchdown.

      A few weeks after this it was reported that the Astros cheated in the 2017 season by using cameras to steal signs. One of the alleged ways they relayed the signs to the batters was through an electronic buzzing bandage. While there was no definitive evidence that they cheated in 2019, there’s a lot of circumstantial evidence for it in this clip. Altuve tells his teammates as he comes home not to rip off his jersey (perhaps exposing said bandage), something that he’s been fine with in the past. The clip didn’t show this, but after he scores, he runs into the clubhouse to removes his jersey and put on the “Astros AL Champs” shirt instead of just changing on the field like everyone else. In an interview after the game, he was straight up asked “Why didn’t you want your jersey ripped off?” He gave an awkward response with multiple answers. Fun fact: the interviewer, Ian Rappoport, was the same guy who published the article on the Astros cheating. He was already working on it at this point. He knew something was fishy about this game.
      There also some baseball logic that doesn’t add up. Chapman is a fastball pitcher. He threw fastballs ~60% of the time in 2019. Altuve is a fastball hitter. He hit ~.320 vs fastballs compared to ~.260 vs breaking pitches in 2019. The count is 2-1, a situation in which a fastball pitcher will likely throw a fastball. I’d be waiting to jump on a fastball if I was Altuve. Even if he throws an off speed pitch in the zone, I’ve still got a strike to give. I’m supposed to believe in that situation Altuve just so happened to be sitting on that slider? Bull. Shit.
