    Yeah, this was really cool to watch! I actually watched it yesterday but it was on the phone, I was traveling, so I decided to come back on the laptop, it's a bit easier to comment with a proper keyboard.
    I think it's very interesting to see this, and all the insight you shared makes such a lot of sense! When I see those high end buggies, I want them. But I haven't bought one yet, I have so much other stuff going on, but maybe someday.
    Of course if you have access to that lovely track, you'd have to have a proper machine for it, and it certainly looks like you have a great one.
    Have a great weekend there!

      Thanks! I've just come back from a day at the circuit. Spent a lot of time running the YZ-2, not much the Hopper today. Just trying to get more consistent in my lap times at the moment. Crashed a fair few times, was crashed into a couple too. No real damage to speak of, except for when the front wheel decided it no longer wanted to be attached to the rest of the buggy! 😁 (the screw holding the front axel backed out and came off - I was sure I put enough thread lock on, but apparently not! 😅)

    Congratulations on passing the 1000 subscriber mark!! I love the content, both the running videos and these as well! I am sure you will be passing me by in no time!! I would love to get a buggy like this but they seem so engineering to the tracks like yours or the highly groomed clay tracks that it is not going to perform on the loose and rough track that I have. I think it would be excessive for me to get such a dialed in buggy to just have it slip and slide all over my track just as much as a $120 Tamiya buggy does! If I had access to a nice indoor track like this one I would certainly pick something like this up! You are getting really good with it and some of those jumps were absolutely perfect!

    • @KaiCityRC
      @KaiCityRC  2 года назад +1

      Thanks. I'm getting better at jumping, but still need to improve a lot. ☺️ I'm finding driving on a high grip carpet track to be so very different to loose dirt and grass. It is a learning curve, but a very enjoyable experience. And it feels great when you get that landing just right! 😁
      But for running for fun at the park or on a track like yours, the Yokomo YZ-2 (dirt version) is overkill. Sure, with the right tires It'll be fast, but you'd get just as much enjoyment out of something a lot less expensive. The Yokomo is an engineering marvel, but it lacks the charm and character of the vintage cars we grew up with back in the day. 🙂

    Hi i just want to say its nice to watch your videos. but I am impressed about the thoughts you have and to share them , i drive my buggies just for fun and often think about what to change and so on, even to have a real high end racing buggy. Money is one thing you should have, but for me the possibility to drive them on a proper circuit to feel the advantage of the modern buggies is what i am missing. So i have a couple of high end eighties and nineties buggies, drive them on parking lots and some open spaces in nature . But watching videos like yours keeps me entertained and opens my mind even for these brushless and lipo powered buggies... Greetings from Germany, sincerely Jürgen

    • @KaiCityRC
      @KaiCityRC  2 года назад

      Thank you! ☺️Up until now I have done exactly the same thing: Drive my buggies at the park, just me and just for fun. I didn't need lipo power or high powered brushless motors. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed myself and will continue to run like that.
      But going to the circuit opened my eyes and reminded me of the fun I had as a kid racing with friends at local tracks. I picked up the Yokomo and ended up spending a load of money to (slightly reluctantly) modernize my electronics to match. Lipo power, brushless motors, fast servos. They add to the performance and are really needed to get the most out of the high end chassis. But you can have just as much fun with any RC, old or new, fast or slow. I highly recommend visiting a track if you have one nearby!

    Great video David, I think it covers the hobby pretty much in a nut shell !, I got back into it after buying my Son a Tamiya lunchbox and brought back all the fun I had when I was a child and did a bit of racing, now 4 retro buggies and 1 high end later, I can totally agree with you !, I enjoy the old stuff more than the new tbh, also you don't need to spend a fortune on a kit to have fun, big difference for me since I was a child is ESC's that's changed the game compared to the mechanical speed controllers of my day. Other than that the old stuff is just a blast. 👍🏻

    • @KaiCityRC
      @KaiCityRC  2 года назад +1

      I couldn't agree more!☺️ I'm enjoying running high-end as it is all new to me, so much to learn and the speed and performance are both thrilling and addictive. Nevertheless, I still enjoy running my vintage re-releases - they have so much character, and never fail to bring a smile to my face. And as nice as it is to drive on a circuit (for a change) I still like being outdoors, running on the grass and dirt. 👍

    • @KaiCityRC
      @KaiCityRC  2 года назад

      Thanks! The DT-02 would definitely be quicker to accelerate, and I'd imagine the brakes would be better too.
      But I'd still be limited by the chassis capability and I suspect trying to clear the double jump would end in carnage if I was to misjudge the landing! 😣

    Great video, congrats on stepping into the modern buggy game. Do you think youd run the Genova on this track? Be cool to see how it handles carpet.

    • @KaiCityRC
      @KaiCityRC  2 года назад +1

      I am so tempted to run the Genova at some point! 😁 I'd need to replace the kit tires, especially the fronts, with something more suited for carpet. Only thing putting me off at the moment is the relatively high cost of spare parts.😲 Something that pretty much everyone agrees is too high! Ge Force are you listening?! 😁
      Usually with my buggies I'll stock up on spares (preemptively as I crash often, but also in case they become hard to find when I need them) but with the Genova I haven't done that yet. (as I ended up spending money on the Yokomo! 😁)
      But yeah, at some point I think I'll run the Genova. 👍

      @@KaiCityRC Gotcha, I'm dreading sourcing spares for mine as well being in the USA, maybe compare the two being that they are both modern but follow 2 different philosophies of 2wd buggy design though the yokomo is higher end. Keep the great videos coming and congrats on 1k 👍

    Glad to see you dabbling with the modern stuff. I'd be very curious to see how it fairs against your favorite performance old-school buggy (with modern upgrades). I plan on racing either an Ultima, or a Javelin (whichever comes in-stock first) at my local track against modern buggies. I intend on doing the typical Brushless, LiPo, and Tires upgrade. I may also dive deeper into A-arms and shocks if I see any glimmer of hope that I can compete with the more modern stuff. Track owner thinks there is zero chance. I think he is right (I've driven the modern buggy and wow), but I'm still gonna give it a shot. Maybe you can give it a shot before me? (If so: try and let me down easy, okay?) lol.

    • @KaiCityRC
      @KaiCityRC  2 года назад +1

      After reading your comment, my first thought was there'd be no way my Ultima (for example) could compete against my YZ-2 Cal 3.1 at an indoor carpet track. 🤔 But after giving it some thought, with the right tires, a damper upgrade and getting the suspension set up, I personally feel they could be quite close. Close enough that driver skill could perhaps determine the winner. I certainly feel that a fast driver at my local circuit could probably get around the track as fast, if not faster than me driving the Yokomo. A lot will also depend on the track and surfaces you plan to run.
      But I don't think the Ultima has the durability of the Yokomo, especially with regard to frontal impacts and space in the chassis is limited for larger ESC's with fans. Parts are also harder to come by and unlikely to be readily available at the track. (One of the benefits of running the Yokomo is my local circuit carries all the spares in stock).
      The Kyosho Legendary series are built pretty tough, but if you're racing you will definitely need to stock up on spares.
      Ultimately, I think it comes down to what you want to get from racing. If you're aim to be competitive with an eye to perhaps winning some races, then as much as I hate to say it, a modern buggy would be the way to go. But if you're just there to have fun and don't really mind whether you cross the finish line first or last, then one of the Legendary series buggies could be OK. They would certainly look fabulous on the track and stand out from the crowd!
      Hope that helps!

      @@KaiCityRC I'll be doing it to raise some eyebrows. I'm not expecting a podium finish, but I'd also like to not be last. I'll be sure to load up on spare parts (any in particular I should focus on?). I found a video of a guy with an interesting more-modern Ultima setup that seems pretty capable: ruclips.net/video/3mLv3s4Faug/видео.html He kindly gave me the part list. I'm likely to try and duplicate this.

    • @KaiCityRC
      @KaiCityRC  2 года назад

      Thanks for the link. I watched the video. 👍 The Ultima did really well.
      I've not raced my Ultima on track, but based on my experience with other buggies I'd say it's mostly suspension arms, turnbuckles, front axles, c hubs/uprights etc that are likely to break in a crash. The transmission is simple and very robust. The front shock towers are quite sturdy, but it wouldn't hurt to have a spare.

    • @joshpit2003
      @joshpit2003 2 года назад

      @@KaiCityRC Thanks. First upgrade will be the shocks. I was told to replace the shocks w/ higher performance ones (w/ various options for spring rate as you previously mentioned may be helpful). Someone said to get 90mm rear and 70mm front, I can't find anything confirming those lengths. (?) I'll buy many spares for the front bits. Makes sense those would be the first to break. If you decide to take your Ultima to the track, I'll be looking forward to that video. I've been reading that Oregon (a state, where I live in in the USA) may be the best place for RC off-road carpet tracks. I think I'm within 2-3 hours of a handful so I have many options if I dive into this hobby deeper.

    • @KaiCityRC
      @KaiCityRC  2 года назад

      Thanks for commenting. 🙂 With lipo power, a fast brushless motor, better tires and a skilled driver, the DT-02 could probably be just as quick as the YZ-2. But, it still wouldn't have the durability of the YZ-2 (something that I continue to be amazed about) and the first mishap on the track would likely result in broken parts! 😅
