They are so good live because of their attention to detail - I've seen one of the technical requirement sheets for a show in Perth WA - its about 6 pages long, defining every aspect of their sound - the best Irish 'trad' band ever -
I saw them several years ago by pure luck because I had never heard of them before....v3very amazing group and you want to stand up and cheer to their music...
@Quilbo Actually, there is an album "Dance of the celts", where are many Irish bands. And there is one song from Altan - ANDY DE JARLIS.. maybe that´s what you´re looking for :-)
Altan has two guitarists: Daithi Sproule and Mark Kelly. Mr. Sproule, I believe, lives in Minnesota, and plays when the band travels in North America. Mr. Kelly when they play Europe, except when they play the Hollywood Bowl, in which case both play, simultaneously.
@TheSingingBarmaid may not have a name, John Doherty was a travelling fiddler from Donaegal, its possible he never named any of these tunes at all and someone who learned it off him taught them to Altan's fiddlers
I don't know, but they place this song on their album "Best Of 1987-1993" in a medley: Fermanagh Highland Donegal Highland John Doherty's King George IV
Me too. Then perhaps I would one day be fit to touch the hem of Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh's gown. Damn, but she always looks like she's having the best of fun.
@Tadhg64 Yeah but too fast to dance to! Speed is getting away from the tradition. Seems speed is for a particular market audience. But each to his own.
Altan is amazing in concert. I've seen them 3 times and each was great. One concert included favorite Christmas songs.

Awesome!
If I had life to live over again, I'd start playing the fiddle at four, and never give up.
great dance music
Mairead Nesbitt (celtic woman) plays it too, there it is just called Reels... so maybe you can find it? ;D
I don't know, but they place this song on their album "Best Of 1987-1993" in a medley:

Sorry but there isn't any song with this name by Altan. It doesn't exist
Why does that Bodhran look like a taped up snare drum?
Quand t'entend ça tu te lève de ton siège et tu danse !!!
C'est la misère comment les gens les regardent '-_-
Pas moyen qu'ils lèvent le cul de leur chaise !!
Ar Canain 's ar Ceol

@Tadhg64 Yeah but too fast to dance to! Speed is getting away from the tradition. Seems speed is for a particular market audience. But each to his own.
And they are not on cocaïn.
Dún na nGall people had to stop playing to fast.
For they might have made too many sonic boom, over MACH 1.
Too fast !
I like it but... too much... repetition... same note...burned into head...
