I was just realizing the thumping bass line around 6:18 is Geddy and i always thought part of that was Neil’s bass drum. It just goes to show how great a rhythm section Lee-Peart is. One of the greatest in rock, hands down. They are in lock-step with one another.
@@glenngreatrex936 Totally right, they are the best rock Rhythm section. Period. The Experience had Mitchel but Noel Reddings, Im sorry, has nothing on Geddy Lee. And Jones and Bohnam, as great as they were didn't have what these guys did.
Man..you know what I would've done to hear this when I was a kid?!!!..cutting school to stay home and learn Geddy chops, and here it is laid out clearly. Thank you..this was a blast to listen to. I'm a subscriber now and forever.
Jimminy Crickets! I thought I knew this song.... Geddy, you just brought me to my knees yet again. Man, that high end sizzle is his sound. I never realized he played with the treble cranked like that. Thats what gives him the Bbbbrrrzzzzzz Bzz Bzz
This is the actual track, doofs! The 'Jammit' app offered music parts from classic albums isolated or subtracted so musicians could learn or play along. The tracks were sourced from original multis. Jammit is gone but the tracks remain in circulation.
DH2pilot I'm almost certain this is Geddy's actual track. As a teenager, I wore out at least 2 copies of the vinyl album to learn this song 100% on bass. And that involved a LOT of time wearing headphones to pick up every little detail.
This "is" the track and it's Geddy. Compare the solo to the production mix of Geddy's fill at 06:09 not to mention all the rest of the lines and fills in this tune. There are deniers here, and it's understandable to be one, especially when one picks out the human flaws. You can't listen to it that way. Embrace the raw-ness and the opportunity to listen to it in its unfettered form. This same track has also been posted in isolated guitar and isolated drums; undeniably Alex and Neil. Any long time Rush devotee who has truly studied this music will recognize them. I say, enjoy!
I know this is four years old, but I just read an interview where Alex says they did leave the first take of the solo there, dropped the volume to almost nothing, and then he dubbed over it with the final take.
I've heard Alex say that the "original" solo can be heard "ghosted" on the album track if one listens closely enough. This audio makes it much easier to do so!
Hi Frontline901. How on earth did you manage to isolate this bass track. Would be nice to know to study bass parts, being a bass player myself... Thanks!
Im playing this song for a high school talent show and I’m using this isolated bass track too. Me on the drums and my friend on guitar but we have no bassist so I have to connect this to a bass amp or speaker. Any tips?
I don't think he means geddy screws up, but that you can tell it's a real human being playing, with fluctuations in perfection here and there, which in my opinion, makes it way better
@@fgs2732 well said, my friend. You must be a musician...our songs have no mistakes no matter what we do with it or not.. They're ours and the only time there's a mistake is if some other dumptruck tries to play it to "The T" and blows it...but if they play it with sloppy fervor and keep it heavy I'll give em a pass...lol....good ear brother..
Man. I love Geddy Lee as much as any other heterosexual dude with a mancrush, but doesn't it sound like he pretty much phoned this one in? This tune is all Alex and Neil. With the exception of The Ghost of the Aragon, it sounds like he was in traction or maybe his hands were frostbitten or something. Maybe he dislocated his knuckles doing Circumstances or wanted to see if he could play with his hands in his pockets. This doesn't seem like he was into it. This album drained all of them though. Ooh... Geddy was probably doing the entire bass line on the Taurus pedals. Yeah, thats the ticket. He wanted to challenge himself.
i think that's the best way to put this. That's like that dude at the back of the bar coming up to you, "yeah you were great but you missed that Bb".... shut up no one asked you and no one appreciates your input... Not YOU specifically Anubis, but yeah you're going in that direction.
Got an idea. Pick up a bass, turn the fucking youtube isolated track off, learn the damn song by ear off of a cd or whatever the way we did in the early 80's, then play it for your friends so they can tell you that the 12 hours you spent learning a 6-8 minute song was wasted because YOU fucked it up. OR....simply write a bass line that is as badass as this. Either fucking way, show a little respect to your Gods of music. Long live Geddy Lee. We have lost way too many great bassist in the last couple years. Can't afford losing Ged.
Jeff....I was thinking this as well until it arrived at the bass solo at 6:09 and it sounds identical to the studio version, so I think it probably is Geddy.
6:08
If you know the song you just look at the time stamp and know... "...yeah..."
yes

@@mitchelltiefenthaler2582 may not have listened to the song in a while but that was my exact thought after hitting the time stamp lol
and Geddy says when he listens to Les Claypool he doesnt hear his influence on him.
ITS RIGHT HERE love it
Geddy is very humble bass god
@@Sanson101 This 100%. Geddy is not a pompous musician at all and he is modest when you ask him how much he influenced a ton of musicians
I've been figuring out Geddy's bass lines for decades and I don't hear it either.
I don't hear it at all. Claypool does a lot of slapping and just has a totally different style.
Les died a little when he heard that
Someone needs to do this with Cygnus x-1 book II.
And book 1
Check out the RUclips Chanel “the rush music and fan channel” it’s there

its so cool. its like they bounce off eachother
I like how you can see the on the timeline the most replayed part is that awesome bass fill - exactly why I'm here haha
That action sounds so damn low! Geddy’s Rick years were his finest I think.

6:09 the reason we are here!!
The lick at 609 or so is one of the best ever
It's a shame nobody does this with Rush's later work. I'm pretty sure he plays even better in the later albums.

The fret and finger noise has a lot of character. In the band I play in, my leader is constantly bitching about it when I do it.
Damn that's tight

That's what R.I.C. thinks too.

Lone the Ric and more natural distortion. Geddy’s tone went way too farty soon after Permanent Waves.
