Jurgen Prochnow in this is one of the coolest villains in movie history. Not cool in the sense of being awesome, but cool in the sense of being calm and unflappable. Even at the end when Axel fouls up his plans, he just lights a cigarette and casually warns him of what a mistake he's made. He's a pure sociopath. So much so that he doesn't even get enraged when his plans goes awry. He just orchestrates the cold-blooded betrayal and murder of the underling he believes responsible. He's completely reptile brain, and it's a shame he's not as well known as other, less intimidating, movie villains.
Anyone who likes violence in a film are sick in the head. If you like violence you get shot & teargassed then or better still you go out & commit real live robbery & violence then. Oh you probably did. Only sick in the head people like violence in films.
You can really appreciate this movie even more after watching David Lynch's Dune and seeing Duke Leto and Doctor Yueh together on screen again here. Both Jurgen Prochnow and Dean Stockwell were great in both movies.
It's more intimidating when the boss man speaks softly and deliberately and looking at his guy with eyes cold as ice.....than screaming like a lunatic at his man for failing the first heist...and telling him to deal with Axel before executing the next heists....the guy is so methodical with his body language too...very concise and commanding ...it was great scene 🙂
He really was. He was by far the smartest out of all the BHC villains. His plan to frame Cain for the robberies was pretty fucking smart. Foley and the gang had to do a lot of illegal shit to foil him and had it been up to normal BHPD procedures, he probably would have gotten away with it. They had to violate a bevy of search and seizure laws and even then he was minutes away from getting away with the whole thing. He was also the quickest to recognize Foley as a cop and real threat and ordered the kill, the day Foley came to his attention. Victor and Ellis tried way too long to take the high road and by the time they decided to get dirty, it was too late.
Dean Stockwell? Well, of course! He played Judd Steiner, a character based on Nathan Leopold in "Compulsion"... a crime drama based on the legendary murder case of Leopold and Loeb. =:O
This is one of the main scenes where you knew that Beverly Hills Cop II was gonna be more serious and much more darker than the first Beverly Hills Cop. "Kill him, burn him, blow him away." Jurgen Prochnow killed that scene. And that evil facial expression Jurgen had at 2:11.

I think as far as performance yes he was better but I think they didn't do enough with him. With Victor in the first you really felt Foley wanted to get him and that Foley was in real potential danger especially during that shoot out at the end. In 2 Foley doesn't seem all that motivated to get Max or as though he is in real danger, he gets shot at outside the club once and it was a pretty bad attempt. There is one scene in the end that is oddly dark and eerie between the Max and Foley at the end but just like this scene it works better in a bottle than as a whole when you watch the full movie.
What’s interesting is that Axel, Billy and Taggart (the latter of the two waiting in the car) was at the gun club by coincidence. The thing about criminals is that they are paranoid by nature.

Whilst not a rehash, it still has a very similar narrative to the first film - namely, Foley has to lie to his boss in Detroit to sneak over to Beverly Hills to avenge a friend's murder (first film) and attempted murder (second film).
