I am an ER tech and I do about 20 in a 12-hour shift or more depending on the patients, complaints as they arrive non ambulance.......complaint of SOB, chest pain etc. Hospitals/ER do utilize these to determine amny things. that have an effect on a heart, heartbeat. Pre-hospital (EMS they do 12 lead EKG in the field and transmit back the result as well as they can data-span (sending the EKG via fax to the ER Physician awaiting arrival to better treat ont he scene) them to the ER physician, this was way we can have the cardiac catheterization team waiting on arrival for a STEMI, 2nd, 3rd degree heart block, to RBB Block/LBB Block to SVT or any other heart arrythmias the patient may be presenting. Or we can have the cardiac cath team notified and enroute to the hospital by reading the EKG from the field.

@@Mr8otter I was an ER Tech for a long time & I loved it💯 I'm starting as an EKG tech now & I'm blown away that it's a job on its own lol like you said ER techs do more EKGs than we can count but we do many, MANY things in addition to EKGs I'm almost not sure why it's needed as it's own job! I'm my experience they just got in our way😂 Guess I'll find out!! I can't believe I'm actually going to get paid more to do less🤯 I'm grateful tho, I've done my time & given enough blood, sweat & tears. Time to shift gears for this old lady😂

You don’t need a license or state certification to work as an EKG tech . All you need is the training ...

If you want to make more money as a travel EKG tech you need your license though. No travel agency will send you out without a license.
