I think Mark makes a lot of good and valid points that I absolutely agree with, however when he talked about the guy in Atlanta who got shot for falling asleep in the parking lot and running from the cops at a burger king, he’s cheapening his own legitimacy. I remember seeing that video and the cops were called because he fell asleep parked in the drive thru, had he been just in the parking lot no one would have probably paid him any mind. Also he got killed because he wrestled the cops, managed to get one of their tasers and pointed it them as he was running away. After doing that you can’t be surprised by the outcome. I just think it’s important to be genuine about what really happened if you want chance to come.
Dude falls asleep in drive thru. Cop comes knocks on window, to wake dude. He ask dude if he needs medical attention, dude says no I'm fine, just tired. Ppl are too lazy, scared, comfortable and conditioned to take responsibility of self and community. Then want to talk ish when someone else has facts, insight and options of solutions. Most of you missed the crux of his eloquently experienced stance which is , ultimately creating a HEALING system. A system where people are whole and restored and the mechanism utilized to ensure safety can be focused toward preventive tactics verses reactive tactics. If there is less poverty & need, and less neglect toward mental/ psychological help in the community you inadvertently will have less people hurting. Less people hurting reduces the LIKELIHOOD of a person to want to cause harm. This is why we’re fcked off. People want to resolve symptomatic aspects of issues as opposed to addressing the ROOT CAUSES. we’re so far off in this country we can’t even creatively imagine it LESS VIOLENT. 😭🙃got damnit

I see massive crimes being commited on a daily basis, without Police we would have Chaos
First the society would have to devise a way to raise children that do not grow up to be criminals.
Then we would have to wait until the morally deficient criminal element is society ages out of existence
When we have a newly grown morally rich society of properly raised humans that do not commit crimes.
The Police would not be needed there would be nothing for them to do.
This would take a few generations to achieve convicted criminals would not be allowed to procreate or raise children.
All forms of violence would have to be removed from all media, movies, games, music, art etc.
The children/adults from 2 or 3 generations would have to be sheltered from all forms of violence and immorality

When Envy talks about plp not wanting to work there are reasons why. Low wages and some are unable to because of health issues related to post COVID and other issues Brought on by stress from this pandemic. As a nurse who contracted COVID in April 2020 (when PPE was not a priority for some health care workers unless your were a Dr.) am still til this day dealing with health issues related to this beast. Went from 2 jobs to being disabled. I miss working!! But yet these issues are not really brought to light 🙏🏾
Not to mention all of the ppl who make money different ways. The pandemic made a lot of ppl rich or comfy. Besides a lot of folks who lost jobs they had prior to the pandemic

This Brotha is real deep! I like what he's saying.
Charlamagne didn’t take long for him to forget the security he craves is what was bad for him before he made money.
abolishing police is not a good solution when a lot of people in our own communities are the perpetrators. What's the plan for policing and law enforcement? Keeping black women, children and elderly safe?
I hear and agree with you but don’t forget Black men need to be safe as well.
Reparations is the answer.
His idea is a fantasy and has too many what ifs...he is talking about reconditioning a whole population of people...
@@squeky267 as you can see, reparations aren't in the plans for black ppl 🤣 they've put laws in place for Asians and the lbgt communities as well. Let's never forget the police were originally put in place to capture runaway slaves. Very good interview, I truly enjoyed it!
Crime is more from being raised without 2 loving parents in the same household than from poverty.
Never clicked so fast.

I love interviews like these!!! I can't believe I've never heard about this dude before!
Marc will never have to deal with anything he's advocating for.

It's not that people don't want to work that we're sick of getting mistreated making $15 an hour in Florida won't get me an apartment 1,800 for rent plus utilities plus food doesn't add up!
Very thought provoking conversation… especially the portion regarding the death penalty. We have to look at policies from logic over emotion.
Oh naw I believe in the death penalty but to each it’s own
This interview should've been longer
Why, so that he could babble about nothing important for 3 more hours? Dude nothing he's saying is profound...
TEACH PROFESSOR HILL! This brother is brilliant. This is what giftedness looks like. You can see the difference between the mindset Marc Lamont Hill & DJ Envy. Envy is pro-police & anti-black.
Reimagine POLICE & make neighborhoods safe.
Nah Envy was asking the right questions as Lamont is wishy washy on the alternative.
"Abolish The Police" is emotional, unfiltered stupidity condensed into 3 words.

No he's not very bright I'm afraid. Actually that's silly of course he's bright. But I fear he is very wrong. Comments like "nobody is a molester or serial killer without being mentally ill" is factually incorrect statement. It's frightening that Marc is so close to the seat of power and influence. I can see trials happening in black neighbourhoods in the next few years and you know what you'll see? More black girls and women being disproportionately murdered. Just like the violent crime rates in some cities increasing since it has been easier for people to make bail. Or sometimes not even being prosecuted for felonys.
@@speaktruthpeace1612 He’s just rambling without any real solutions. Abolishing the police and prisons is pure stupidity.
40:07 a conversation centered on community policing in PA and Oakland as well, in collaboration with more information on equitable wealth distribution would go OFF 2 convos we desperately need because they are not just pointing out the problem we need ways to get our hands dirty in the fight for free and just community structure while we’re trying to maintain basic survival in the ‘real world’
We need more police in LA not less. Maybe you guys should try no police in Atlanta to see what happens there.
Lord, please don’t try that. I have a kid in college in Atlanta and one that lives outside of Atlanta. Hell they’re shooting people on the interstate. Crime is bad in Atlanta.
I love Lamont Hill. You should pay this man and have him on every damn week. It’s criminal that he doesn’t have a huge platform.
#BREAKFAST CLUB One of the more compelling interviews on the Breakfast Club. Unlike others ; they are limited in scope, often times trivial subjective content that's relevant to hip hop culture great interview!

There is too many issues in our community to abolish police in our community. We need a lot of work in our community before entertain having community policing. Great start to a conversation!
Clearly our community needs new ideas because we’re 12 percent of the US population and more than half the prison population. And not all of the blacks in jail are guilty the justices system is a joke! And the US has the highest prison population on earth!
@@terrencealexander6811 I totally agree with everything you stated. We as the black community need to work on our historical trauma before we police ourself.
@@hevel4383 yes, but the police system is responsible for some of the trama we need to deal with. Perfect example kalef The kid that got locked up for nothing and couldn’t afford bail and was abused in jail and committed suicide when he went home
He said it needs to be incremental. That means in stages.
@@speaktruthpeace1612 Yes, I heard him say that. Again, I do understand some may not agree with me, which is okay. We have over 400 years of daily trauma we need to work on and heal, before creating stage work on policing ourselves. That is all I'm saying.
Much Gratitude
Ps Peace to Dr Marc Lamont Hill
Glad you pointed that out. I remember that situation, and Marc shaped it to fit a certain narrative.
Dude falls asleep in drive thru. Cop comes knocks on window, to wake dude. He ask dude if he needs medical attention, dude says no I'm fine, just tired. Cop says, well, go ahead and pull out of the drive thru you might want to park over there for a minute and get yourself together. Cop says "have a nice night and drive safe." Reimagined.
@@Findaway2day He failed a sobriety test. Cop let's him go. He decides to drive off. Commits vehicular homicide. Reimagine that.
@@DGot14U how do you drive off parked and asleep?
@@Findaway2day Your're not being serious. He was asleep in his car in a drive thru lane. And being asleep in your car in a place you shouldn't be are basic conditions for cops to do a sobriety test, which he was given and which he failed.
Curious about the role of those who provide professional interventions! I can think of so many instances where those mediating and deescalation skills are so necessary on personal AND structural levels when every diverging viewpoint leads to dead ends. Having that cooler head to push us past our emotional, or knee jerk reactions. Definitely about to look into this!
Ppl are too lazy, scared, comfortable and conditioned to take responsibility of self and community. Then want to talk ish when someone else has facts, insight and options of solutions. It would be too much like right to change our condition with changes to the conditions that got us here. It's easier to film, stand by, watch with shaking heads then post for likes and views.
You make your own heaven and live in the hell you allow.
Very well spoken and thought out
I guarantee if he gets in a jam he will call the police
He dialed 911 for the paramedics!
Even if he did, there is a need for reform. I get nervous every time I see cop. And that’s been passed down from family who have all had incidents.
Yes of course he would. But he’s saying big picture police aren’t the solution to crime . Fixing the reason ppl commit crimes is the solution “big picture “

Marc, abolishing police is irrational. People will always commit crimes, or as you say "acts". Community justice can only go so far before we start wanting more change.
Well we as a community can always kick ass 🤷🏽♀️💯🤣

Great points! I'm with it! Will take some time to shift and a solid plan (like he outlined above), but it is NEEDED.
