  • Sheldon Brown is the chief engineer for the all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. He explains the most important new features and benefits of the all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma.
    There are two powertrain options, the standard engine is a 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. There is also a 6-speed manual transmission with automatic rev matching and anti-stall technology. Manual transmission models produce 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.
    There’s also the available I-Force Max Hybrid powertrain with a 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder, 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. This nearly doubles the torque of the current V6 model. It has a 48 horsepower electric motor integrated into the 8-speed transmission with a 1.87 kWh battery pack.
    In Canada, the Tacoma comes exclusively in four-wheel drive models which have an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case with high/low range along with active traction control. In the US, 4x2 is also available. An electronic locking rear differential is standard on TRD-Off Road, TRD Pro and Trailhunter grades. The Limited model features a full time 4-wheel drive system with a centre locking differential on hybrid models.
    Improvements were made across all grades enhancing Tacoma’s off-road capability from severe rock climbing to high-speed desert racing. So whether you want a little more luxury in the Limited grade or a very capable Tacoma TRD Off-Road, you’ll find one that fits your lifestyle.
    A new front cross member was constructed for the steering gear box, a new high lift jack point is integrated into the rear frame and to enhance ride and handling characteristics is a newly available multi-link suspension, this replaces the previous model’s leaf springs in favour of a set of coils. However, the leaf springs stay on SR, SR5 Xtra Cab grades and TRD Prerunner. The Tacoma also gets new 4-wheel disc brakes, TRD models and above are equipped with a larger front brake package. The hybrid model adds a larger rear brake package.
    An electronic parking brake allows for low-speed radar control and a brake hold function. The Tacoma also gets electric power steering.
    Available electronic front stabilizer bar that can disconnect for a 10% increase in wheel articulation.
    The Tacoma now features suspensions that are specific to each grade. For example, TRD Sport has red TRD sport tuned shocks for a more responsive feel, the TRD off-road grade has monotube Bilstein remote reservoir shocks, the TRD Pro has FOX’s new QS3 three-way adjustable internal bypass shocks with remote reservoirs, the Trailhunter has Old Man EMU 4x4 suspension by ARB that is tuned for optimum levels of off-road control and Limited grades feature a new adaptive variable suspension.
    The interior comes with a standard 8” touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, it’s got Toyota’s new multi-media system that was introduced in the 2022 Tundra. There’s an available 14” touchscreen, wireless charger, an available multi-terrain monitor, a 360-degree camera, a 12.3” digital driver display, 7” is standard and a 10-speaker JBL sound system is also available, it has an available portable speaker and when it’s undocked it can run for up to 6 hours. Other available features included heated and ventilated front seats, a head-up display and a heated steering wheel. All models get push button start and you want a digital key so you can start the vehicle with your phone, it’s through a trial or subscription. That digital key can also be shared with others who are using the vehicle.
    Gas models have three times more storage under the rear seat than the previous model and you can also fold the rear seatback flat.
    TRD Pro models include Isodynamic performance seats for enhanced off-road driving control and comfort. TRD Pro models sit 2” higher in the front and an 1 ½ higher in the rear compared to the SR5. Gas modesl have three times more storage under the rear seat from the previous model as well and you can also fold the rear seatback flat.

    The extended cab is what I would go for like my old 1989 Toyota 4 cylinder extended cab pickup. Not everyone needs or want a four door truck. So I’m sure all Toyota will do is concentrate more on the quad cab and little by little Toyota will do away with the so-called new access cab because they’ll say it’s not selling enough. But maybe it’s because all you will do is try to sell strip version of the access cab that nobody wants because of the lack of bells and whistles. So for now I’ll just keep my old Toyota extended cab pickup truck.

    Toyota is the perfect example of what happens when two or more countries come together in unity. Japan and America both working together to produce awesome, dependable products for their customers. They’ve hired the perfect Chief Engineer for the Toyota Tacoma. We like dependable, capable trucks that are practical and useful. Spaces need to serve a purpose for the things we enjoy doing. Such as over-landing, camping, daily rock, and or mud-trail riding. Southern men use their trucks to navigate muddy trails that could potentially get the wrong setup stuck. We use them for hunting, fishing, camping, we sometimes put campers on the back and put other valuable items and whatnot back there. Other more northern states may use them for more of a rock climbing type of setup. Western United States uses them for Baja, which is awesome as well. And a little bit of everyone, from everywhere uses them for camping and over landing. And for once in my life, I’m genuinely excited about the hybrid engine package, a 2.4 liter turbocharged engine coupled with a 48 hp electric motor, delivering 465 lb-ft of torque and 326 hp; I’m all in. That’s practical, and awesome! I’ll take the Pro, blacked-out from top to bottom on the exterior please 😊

  • @ShadowxxPanda
    @ShadowxxPanda Год назад +4

    I think he failed with the xtracab prerunner. It should have been an access cab with the storage options as reaching over the seat all the time to reach something in the back is a PITA. Hell there is even a video of the chief engineer having trouble to reach something in the back. Also the rear suspension was a mistake with the leaf springs being under the axel as that limits the lift options and will probably only be used to lower the truck like what other people did with the Nissan hardbody RWD. The prerunner with be terrible for off roading. They can say that they moved to xtracab for crash tests, but I bet it is to save cost and the MSRP will still be more expensive than previous years for the prerunner. Also they should have left the push start as an option. If I ever do get a 4th gen I will probably get a crew cab and delete the back seats to get what I wanted out of the prerunner.

    Thanks Sheldon .. But my biggest complaint is something that Toyota/Lexus unfortunately does with all their vehicles.. It looks like they sink the entire cabin way too low in the vehicle.. And they raised the roof and seat?? It looks like they should have raised both more... For the roofline maybe 2 or 3 inches.. This would give it a nice airy cabin with good visibility and plenty of headroom.. Like I said, it looks like sunk the entire cabin way too low in the truck. It looks funny .. I'm pretty sure the low cabin and low roofline probably make for very poor outward visibility, much less cabin room, and much less headroom.. a higher roofline would have made this truck MUCH better.. I know this would hurt MPG a bit.. But I would much rather have good visibility (for safer driving), more comfort, and more room (and headroom)in the cabin

    Better emissions, not necessarily better gas mileage under load, and MOST definitely a MUCH HIGHER repair bill when the dumb hybrid motor fails in under 150k miles. At that point you would be better off just dumping it for a new truck. I for one do not care about all of that fancy balogna. I WANT longevity in my truck. I STILL drive a 2000 Tundra with a NORMAL V8 and very few normal issues that occur at the 100k mark. There is absolutely NO way this new Tacoma can ever last as long as my old Tundra. Not to mention the ridiculous prices now on the new versions. Overall, NOT worth the price tag.

  • @jayski9410

    Toyota is moving away from what I want in a truck - simplicity & reliability. I've decided to try and make my 2012 Tacoma (2 wheel drive, hand crank windows, etc.) last as long as it can. Because you can't buy a simple truck from any manufacturer anymore. And when this one finally does wear out, I'll probably have to find an old Studebaker, International Harvester, or REO Speedwagon in a junkyard somewhere to restore. If I want bells & whistles, I'll buy a Tesla. But in my truck, I want the sturdy, simple, reliability of the past.

  • @fredo5188
    @fredo5188 Год назад +1

    The only reason Toyota fixed all the issues with the Tacoma was probably because they were starting to loose loyal customers to their competitors who didn't have all those shitty issues. They don't care about their customer it was ALWAYS about making the most money. Look how long it took them to refresh the Tacoma and previous generations. When enough customers stop buying their shit they'll start opening up the complaint box and going trough all the great ideas with a fine toothed comb.

    Why did not you equip the partial 4WD trims with a central differential (open or limited slip)? I would love to have an option to use all 4 wheels on both slippery and non-slippery surface and to be able to disconnect the front wheels. THe only trim that has a central differential is Limited, nut it's full-time AWD. I don't think there are technical obstacles to having a central diff on partial 4WD trims - there are probably marketing and segmentation reasons for that. But I am sure there are many people like me who would loe to have a central diff on partial 4WD trims like TrailHunter and TRD Pro. Alternatively, there could be an option to have fulle-time AWD on ThailHunter and TRD Pro.

    I would love to know how much the Tacoma chassis differs from say the Tundra or 300-series LC/LX. I know they all use the same basic TNGA-F but that does not mean they are identical (apart from the logical length difference based on application). For example the crossmembers and mounting points have been tweaked on the Tacoma and some sections of those members have slightly thinner gauge steel for cost and weight savings, since the Tacoma is not as large or in need of such heavy-duty capability as the larger vehicles according to autoblog.
