How do you know that? He always wanted to do a full album of his poetry so what do you think they would just do his poetry with no music in the background? I disagree with you buddy
@@markmckelvie8941 By the time waiting for the sun came out, Jim was completely over the adulation and was tired of being a rock star; being admired for his sexuality and spectacle instead of his words. Jim made it known that he intended to pursue goals outside of rock and roll, like the hwy movie he was in, and the recordings that went on American prayer. I believe The story goes, he did not know what to do with these recordings of spoken poetry, but he made them in Feb 1969 and Dec 1970, and left for France soon after. He was going to decide what he wanted to do with them, but died first. Maybe after all, he would have decided to have the doors play music that would accompany the poetry, but that wasn't where his mind was at the time. He was trying to distance himself from being a sex icon and it's very possible that he thought playing with the doors worked against that.
@@markmckelvie8941 I don't want to take away from how good this is, American prayer is a super awesome album. I remember the first time I heard it. I thought I had heard every doors song on every album.... I was probably about 11 years old in 1992 when I first heard it. I was a weird kid who listened to the doors at age 10.
@@markmckelvie8941 yea i'm with you,I could totally see Jim digging this, and why not...reading his poetry while accompanied by music! Such an original way to get your words to the masses,I think Jim would have loved it and done many more, great stuff!
An American Prayer... Outstanding endeavor seven years after the departure of the Lizard King. Intuition is the only bridge that cross the marsh of uncertainty.
I thank you O Lord for your many blessings and the undeserved love that you have bestowed upon me. I want to walk with you in the cool of the garden and learn your precepts and of your wisdom. I want to do what is right in your sight of you and dwell in your presence forever
I have an idea for a reimagined RSD edition of this album, a side of the Doors' 1978 instrumental backing tracks for American Prayer and a side of pure Morrison poetry readings.
People complain about “boomers” but they left some great music. The 60s left some of the greatest music ever.
I agree, but people who made music in the 60's weren't boomers

how many times i have to tell people what a magical sound they gave us.
This wasn't what Jim envisioned doing with his poetry, but I approve highly of this arrangement.

I took some of those vocal stems and mixed them with M.I.A. Paper Planes back in the day. It went surprisingly well together.

too jazzy , and too set in that time period , it should have been timeless and more animalistic!
