Asus Rog Ally X 7 inch 16:9 IPS VRR display ist the best ratio for current games. 16:10 is always unfavorable and not suitable for any game. Many games do not support this format at all. The Ally has a proper native horizonal gaming screen, rather than a portrait screen built into a landscape device like the SD. Because this also causes problems with games. But for retro games the best ratio is 4:3. I have a lot of handhelds from Powkiddy and Anbernic in 4:3. Works great for old retrogames. I also have the RGB10Max2 and the X28 in 16:9 from Powkiddy. You can also play retro games with it. But you have very large black borders on the left and right. Most people like the Steam Deck better because it has Linux and not Windows. I, on the other hand, like Windows much better. I also had the Steam Deck, but I couldn't use it properly because most of the games and programs didn't work. I don't like the limitations of Linux. I also had Windows installed on the Steam Deck, but it wasn't optimized on the Steam Deck at all and didn't run so well. The Ally supports VRR and the oled screen does not. The oled breaks immersion and there is tearing, streaks, black crush and it's too dark. Variable refresh rate (VRR) is needed for current games. For example Cyber punk and COD are games that show how horrible no VRR looks on an oled screen. Play these games on the Ally X and the buttery smooth frames look better than a laggy oled. The Ally X and its predecessor have better performance and are significantly more powerful than the Steam Deck. I can briefly list in bullet points what I think is better about the Ally X compared to the Steam Deck: bright IPS VRR 120hz 1080p 6:9 panel, native horizontal. Windows 11 for Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere, Epic, GOG, EA and Ubisoft launcher, EVERY game, app and Software runs out of the box, Ally X has a longer battery life, performance is much better of course with Z1 Extreme CPU, better GPU and 24GB RAM, better buttons and dpad, ergonomic xbox button and sticklayout, 2 USB ports!, much faster battery loading time, armory crate is perfect optimized!, much better sound! and fans are quieter, better build quality. I was very dissatisfied with the Steam Deck and found my first Rog Ally much better. The Ally X now tops everything again because it has a lot of improvements.
I like other display sizes as well! I often rotate between using all of my handhelds different display sizes for different occasions. My LG G Pad 5 gaming tablet has a 7 inch display in portrait position and a 10 inch display in landscape mode. Love the 5.5 inch display of my X55 as well. I also love the 7 inch display of my Steam Deck and X17.
Amazing choices to have I do like having the opportunity to rotate my library of handhelds and I use them all for different systems. I like the look of the powkiddy V10 for gba with the 3:2 display
@@SonicLoveEmulation Rotating between using all handhelds within the collection, I'm totally with you. I got the V10 as well overall I like it. A few things I dislike about it, not dealbreakers no direct physical volume and menu buttons like on my ANBERNIC 40XXH and 28XX. I also use the onboard video player app that comes with the ArkOS stock firmware. Just a few days ago I ordered the hard carrying case for the V10 from the official PowKiddy webstore. The carrying case was not available when I ordered my V10.
@@SonicLoveEmulation I certainly will. Oh, and I forgot to tell you. ANBERNIC released a fancy new light gray with snap button carrying pouch for their SP. I have the pouch and it's really nice. The pouch matches with my Silver ANBERNIC SP. The same time I ordered the SP pouch, I ordered a 2nd 28XX carrying case to use for my Original PocketGo.
I mainly prefer the 4 inch 4:3 ratio display. Which is why I mainly like my ANBERNICs, my 40XXH and my 405V. Though, I also have the B20SX and I think it is one of PowKiddy's best! My B20SX is perfect for playing GBC Scrabble.
@@SonicLoveEmulation Yes, I have the Arc D as well, it also has the same 4 inch display as the 405V. So, I have 3 handhelds with the 4 inch 4:3 displays all ANBERNICs. The Arc, the 405V and the 40XXH.
@@SonicLoveEmulation Man the 40XX is more likely my new main landscape handheld at the moment! Regardless the fact I will always like my X55, Steam Deck, X17, Max2 and 28XX. The 40XX stands out from the others mainly because I'm able to install two 1.5TB micro sd cards onto it! The 40XX is just the perfect in between size as far as being portable while having a large display. The 40XX also has a set of downfiring stereo speakers and a decent onboard video media player which I prefer. The 40XX has plenty of physical buttons to use and I especially love the Menu button which helps to easily navigate while using the handheld. The 40XX has a sleek design and light up LEDs, I like that as well!
I've got this device since turn up on the market , my first impression was very bad as the system worked absolutely rubbish ( my battery was permanently 0 , this is known problem with latest jelos realase )but after an update to arkos, I just like this device so much , anyway nice vid 💪
Hey man. Remember the video review you did on that 7 inch display portrait form Sega Genesis console? Well, that is what inspired me to purchase and use the 10.1 LG G Pad5 Android Tablet as a retro handheld device. It's even more better for consoles without shoulder buttons like the GBC, GB, NES, GameGear. Turned vertically the Android Tablet is used in the same manner as that 7 inch display Sega Genesis portrait style handheld. You are just using the touchpad for the physical buttons instead.
From using my tablet vertically for shmups a lot I want to point out, that you don't NEED to use touchpad "buttons". Why not simply connect an xbox or android conroller, they work without a problem. Then add one of these flexible tablet holders and you have a perfect "gaming in bed" setup without any compromises regarding the game controls. Plus, these holders allow to change the tablets position from horizontal to vertical without any effort.
@@clausjahnel5379 Not knocking the ones who plug a joypad to the tablet. I personally see that as being too much as far as being a handheld. It's no longer a handheld when you attach a joypad then adding a stand. At that point I'd just plug a joypad to my PC and play emulation on my big screen TV it's literally the same setup. The way that I'm playing games on my 10 inch tablet with two hands is the same exact way we play Google Play Store Android based games on our cell phones like Candy Crush. Note, I also have a Steam Deck and a PowKiddy X17 if I want to use physical controls on a larger display. Certain games I don't add to my 10 inch tablet which are games that require trigger buttons, like N64 and SNES. Then there are Android games that are touchscreen based regardless that I can't run on my Steam Deck. So, my 10 inch Android Tablet is perfect for those particular games. One Android game I mainly play on my Tablet is called Spellwood: Word Adventure, works only by touchscreen dragging the letters onto the Scrabble board. GBC Scrabble requires no trigger buttons so that's an easy one to play on the 10 inch Tablet. Same with NES and Sega Genesis games. I can even run SegaCD games on the 10 inch Tablet with the 6 button virtual joypad setup. I play lots of SegaCD Wheel Of Fortune on my 10 inch tablet.
