Shaykh Al-Albaani رحمه الله used the Hadith: _"Women are the twin halves of men."_ as evidence that whatever is unlawful for women to seek of knowledge, is also unlawful for men. And whatever is lawful for men to seek of knowledge, is also lawful for women. If the institution has mixed genders, then that is a Fitnah for both men and women. If the woman needs to travel long distances 40-80 km, then she needs a Mahram to travel with her. But flying to another state or to another country alone is not allowed.
Al-Albaani رحمه الله said: "The basic principle in this regard is that everything that is required with regard to males is also required with regard to females, and what is permissible for males is permissible for females, with no differentiation, as is indicated by the words of the Prophet ﷺ: _“Women are the counterparts of men.”_ Narrated by ad-Daarimi and others. So it is not permissible to differentiate except on the basis of a text to that effect. [End quote from Silsilat al-Ahaadeeth as-Saheehah (1/347)]
These deobandis should focus on educating the people on Tawhid and Salafi 'Aqidah lest you get apostates clinging on to aircrafts or shouting on the streets for liberalism and disbelievers to re-invade. That's the fruit of the deviants Ahlul Bid'ah. They produce apostates and not people with Eemaan, knowledge and Tawhid
The Muslim sisters should become Salafis. Salafis will build all the universities you want, on top of that, the entire country will be accommodated for you so that not a single strange man is near you. All the transportation will by law have safe spaces and accommodations for you. Every profession will have women experts so that our daughters and sisters do not have to go to strange men. You'll have all the worldly things you covet as a Mu'allafat Qulub initiative for you, in order to soften your hearts and protect you from the disbelievers that are beautifying their vile values for you with the ignorance of the deobandi maturidi enmity to education. All companies will have floors for only women workers. Everything will be accommodated for you insh'Allah. Become Salafis and ditch the Ahlul Bid'ah.
To the sisters in Islam, just look at the difference. Madinah is run by Salafis, and the disbelievers ranked Madinah as the safest place for women travelers. Compare that to where sufis, deobandis, ash'aris or maturidis run. They can't even purify the land from shirk, so how did you expect them to allow you to have knowledge that will increase you in Eemaan and protect you from the ideologies of the disbelievers like liberalism and feminism or to bring safety to the land? What's more dangerous to a Muslim than any disbelievers, are the Ahlul Bid'ah.
A common problem i noticed in our muslim society :alot of muslim parents are in constant conflict with their daughters, on the first hand they encourage them to be independant and go to a mix college to get educated and have a career , and the other hand they expect their daughters to not engage in haram relationship and dress modestly and be obeidant to the father. Which is a nearly impossible equation so they blame it on " this generation went astray"

As a woman, I got a master's degree in Law, and for me, the situation was kinda reversed. I was taught just the very basics of Islam, and I wasn't practicing. My in-depth interest in Islam started exactly when I, as a Law student, was required to study comparative religion. It was then I actually understood that Islam is the truth and the religion of the Creator of everything. I started to study hadiths, and only then a lot of things that were confusing before became clear. That being said, the degree doesn't necessarily give you an education. As our professors told us, "university only provides material, but only you are able to teach yourselves". Therefore, education IS important and everyone must do their research in order to not get astray, but with today's resources, it can be done at home as well.

About how - well, as per usual seminar preparation procedure. The professor would give us the material, we'd study and answer in seminars later. Sometimes there were debates, sometimes quizzes. And, ofc, I automatically started doing the research, and I was like "oh wow, i wish I had learnt this way earlier!".
@Daniwoodzz I'm 25. I was always open for marriage, but finding any Muslim in my previous, Christian majority country was difficult, let alone finding someone who's suitable for marriage. The degree definitely didn't get in the way of that. The reason I agreed to pursue education is because I was expected to work (even now in a presumably Muslim majority country people keep asking me why I don't work, not because I have a degree, but because "everyone should"). What actually matters is the knowledge I gained and most importantly - the fact that it brought me closer to Islam. Before that I never realized the importance of religion in everyday life. But the university made me do my research in religions, and I understood that I needed to implement Islam in my lifestyle, because that's the actual purpose of our lives, to submit our lives to God. It's not just about not committing sins as I thought, it's also about doing your obligations to Allah and to people. And one of our obligations to people is not to put each other down, but rather encourage and guide to the right path. You never know how people you don't know live. There's no way for you to know what my environment used to be, whether I have a male provider to not work myself, whether I have the financial stability to move to a more religious country. Or maybe I even have health issues that may prevent marriage, who knows. There are so many reasons for people being in a situation they are in. It's not haram to get an education, in fact, it's compulsory for every Muslim to gain knowledge in order to know your obligations and not go astray. As long as you getting an education doesn't jeopardize the performance of your obligations and doesn't lead you to haram, it's acceptable.

The fallacy "education will lead people astray" comes exactly from ignorance. That logic can be applied anywhere, not just for education. And for both genders as well. As you said, people have free will. If a person wants to disobey the rules, he will do that even with all the limits put on him. If the person has pure heart, then even will all freedom he will restrict himself from anything haram. Take book for example. Books are generally a good thing, supposedly. We study through them, we document everything in them. But there can be different content. There are educational books, there are history books. And there can be books with wicked content, like black magic or, astaghfirullah, indecent books. The latter are surely forbidden even in the form of a book. But the mere existence of impermissible content doesn't make the books in general haram. So yes, those weak arguments can be easily refuted.
Well according to you only female doctors are needed when in reality I would want female security guards to check me in airport, female cleaner in public washrooms, female nurses, female shopping assistant and what about widows, single mothers etc. How will they fund for themselves and their families? How about someone's marriage fail later in life? So many other things wrong with this argument.
My opinion is Islam doesn't stop a woman from excelling in other fields like technology, finance, leadership, academics. The key is creating the right balance. The primary objective of a married woman is proper upbringing of her kids but it is a responsibility of both husband and wife. Although mothers play a stronger role in that. However, if she gets proper support from her husband and parents she can contribute in other forms too. Take a look at malaysian families..like the happiest people..many women are enterprenuers and husbands are supportive even in household chores..and together as a family they focus on proper upbringing of kids. Having such passion is definitely a choice for women, a woman can choose just to take care of home and children but another woman can choose to have a career and may be delegate some of her chores and that should be fine as long as she is taking care of upbringing of her kids.

As a Muslim woman, in my opinion, forcing either a man or a woman to have a college degree is absurd. Yes, we need to push studies and advance the Muslim population, I definitely agree on making college and university a norm for Muslims, but to make it mandatory is a bit too far, considering that not everyone can afford college both financially or mentally and not every knowledge needs a school for it.
In my country (pakistan), more than half of female students in medical schools are pursuing medical degree just so that they can get a good marriage proposal and social prestige. About 60-70% of lady doctors don't practise this profession after marriage due to its demanding nature and patriarchal system(wasting college seats and public resources). Here, people demand their future wife to be highly qualified (preferably doctor) and then expect her to be a traditional woman, raise kids, run household smoothly and obey her in laws in making career choices after marriage which is a bit unfair and weird to me tbh.
can we look at it another angle as in the wife having a degree and a guaranteed job as a doctor that if something extreme happen to the husband as in a car crash that totally immobilises him or he needs time to recover, then the wife can work and support the family as a last minute safety net?
If there is excess female muslim doctors , there are other countries where muslims need them since not every country has the resources or population to support generating qualified MPs.

I agree. Brothers, Allah has given us all the resources and tools we need. Our speech, our mind, our body. Supplemented by CLEAR guidance in the form of the Quran, supported by the words and actions of the Prophet S.A.W, his closest Companions, of countless pious Muslim leaders throughout history. I'm a muslim woman. I pray 5 times a day. I wear hijab al hamdou li Allah. I'm married and i have agood relationship with my husband. I trust him. I respect him. I have no problem with him being the boss at home. I have 3 kids . And i sacrifice a lot to raise them well within the guidelines of our religion. But i'm also a physician. I chose to go to college and get an education, i also chose to work . My mother was also a physician , she worked her whole life while raising 4 kids. She was an exceptional wife. I have a daughter. And i would love for her to have the choice to get a higher education IF she wants to. And to work IF she want that for herself. When i listen to this channel i get the feeling that i'm misrepresented as the only 2 options ever discussed are either the feminist educated man-hater who fails her mission as wife and mother. OR the glorified stay at home mom/wife who didn't get an education/job. Note that i have absolutely no problem with the later as long as the woman chose that path for herself. Infact i have many friend who chose that and who are perfectly happy. The other thing is that most families are not so well off that only the husband needs to work. We’re going through an economic crisis people, if you haven’t realised. 😅 Final thing, what’s wrong if a woman occupies a respectable position in society? As a doctor, teacher, lawyer etc she’s helping people, contributing to society and showing an amazing picture of Islam & giving dawah. Alhamdulillah that All muslim female doctors I know are married, some before 25, the rest under 30. They all share stories of numerous instances where female muslim patients were happy and relieved that they’re being tended by female muslim doctors. Also on your point on doctors/farmers, outside of witchdoctors, the kind of discipline, patience, tolerance and aptitude it takes to complete a full medical degree and specialized trainings is beyond that needed to be most professions.. come on

Every woman should have some type of training or education. If your husband dies, what will you do? If your husband abuses you, what would you do? I’m Muslim, but My Christian mother-in-law was severely abused by her Christian husband. She couldn’t leave because she had absolutely no type of job training. She had no way of making money and becoming independent. So for years, she stayed with a man that beat her so severely that now 30 years later, her head trembles. I don’t know what Muslim men’s obsession is with keeping women uneducated. To keep them under your thumb obviously. Thank God most Muslim men don’t think this way. I’m not saying women should have full blown careers and neglect their families, but if the need arises she should be able to get a decent job.
You hit the nail on the head when you talked about the social prestige that comes with being a doctor. I once almost was engaged with a doctor and she scolded me, because I said that for me as a husband her medical degree was just a piece of paper to me and it matters to me more whether or not she would be a good mother and wife. She replied angry and told me that I should be proud that she is a doctor and a lot of blabla.. Alhamdoulilah, Allah had better plans for me.

Sth similar happened to me, but on opposite roles 😅 I'll just say my perspective, so that maybe you can have better understanding of the other side. Medicine is a very long and demanding profession. The prestige isn't arbitrary. Firstly, you have to have been a very good student, which means you've studied hard all these years, you focused on your studies and didn't play as much as your friends as a child, go out as much as other young people, enjoy holidays, attend family events. Then you win the right to go to medical school and whatever stress and workload you had before doesn't even compare. You have to keep reading, being over the books, stressing over the exams, crying, staying in your room all day, studying even when you're sick. And this goes on for many years. You see people around you going on with their lives, being on different stages, but there you are at the same stage for 6 years. And that's not all, you have specialization and after that long working hours. But at the end you deal directly with humans' lives. You're there for people at their most difficult times. You get the prestige not only because becoming a doctor is sth hard that can't be achieved by many, but also because how you have the power and the ability to help people when they feel the most helpless. Surely nothing can happen without the will of Allah, but a doctor is the means through which a person can heal by God's will. Imagine if you're in a very difficult situation, maybe your child is dying of hunger and of cold and then one person comes and offers you a warm place stay and food to eat. With what eyes will you see that person? So that's why doctors get their prestige. So what DH said is actually both impossible and also unfair. I understand his logic and the point he wanted to make, but there's a reason why some professions are more prestigious than others. Medicine isn't prestigious because of the money, you can actually get much more money and faster by choosing some other professions. Now going back to our point. Because you've dedicated so much of your life to this profession, you can't really divide between you, your character and your profession. So it's like being a doctor is a personality trait. And when sb says I don't care for your degree, it feels like a personal attack. Because your degree represents your hard work, your sacrifices and basically most of your life till now. That's all you've learned to do and all you've been doing. If that's removed from you then what is left. It's like an existential crisis 😅. On the other hand now I can understand the perspective of a man who says this to the woman he wants to marry. At the end of the day he's marrying you as a woman, not you as a doctor. He cares for what you can offer as a wife and mother and not what you offer to your patients as a doctor. Now that I understand the 2 perspectives I believe there should be some sort of middle ground. A man is certainly right in his request, but on the other hand he must realize that woman's character is greatly shaped by her profession. If he likes that she's hard working and disciplined, her journey to become a doctor greatly impacted that. If he likes that she's a giver, helps people and makes sacrifices for a greater good then surely her profession influenced that as well. And lastly agreeing to marry a doctor means that you agree to understand her long working hours and to be supportive of her when she needs it (like she has exams, she needs to study, because medicine is not like you graduated once and you're done). So it's not quite possible to completely create a division between a woman's personal life in the family and her professional life as a doctor. Not all can understand this and not all can put up with this, and it's definitely their choice, but they need to be aware of the reality before deciding. Hope it helps somehow. I'd value if you write back if you've got sth to add or think differently from me. The lack of the interactions with men makes it almost impossible to see things from men's perspective. That's why we can have the reaction of your ex fiance (if I can call her that) when we're faced with such a perspective for the first time. Later on we can reflect on your words and our reactions and probably change it for future cases.

I've got 2 daughters. I personally would want them to become doctors because I'm worried about their future husbands. Men aren't men anymore. I want them to be able to support themselves just in case... My daughters want to be committed housewives and I also encourage them to be in this role, but things have changed.

No, every woman is different, just like every man. The most important thing is that every Muslim , may they be male or female - have to learn about their deen! And if we have a very smart and talented daughter, sure it would be benificial for the ummah, if she would study a subject, like medicine or about the deen, for example. But in general, it's not necassary to study or to go to college. Even not for a man. Everyone has a different path.

If you want to get a decent job, you will need college education. Additionally, in the US there is a big gap in intelligence and understanding between the educated and the uneducated. I agree you do not need to go to university to get educated, you can go to an Islamic program, etc. but the fact remains unless you want to work a very low wage job, most people will need to go to college. Also, education helps you in many areas of life; when you are educated you can understand things better and navigate through life better

Getting a degree is NOT a waste of time. She might need it one day in case you find yourself jobless or disabled due to health or other reasons and she has to earn for the family, may Allah forbid. And there are many jobs on line these days. Be wise.

There's nothing wrong with women going to college if it's by choice. Education should be free and available for everyone from a very young age. This DOES NOT go against our Islamic teachings, in fact, it reinforces them. In order for us to become competitive with other nations, our societies in the Muslim Umma needs to strive for bringing the elite, men or women to the positions where they can excel. There are countless women in my society (Tunisia) that created successful businesses and created prosperous lives for themselves abroad.
If there were female only schools this little issue wouldn’t be significant anymore. I don’t see any obstacles in marrying someone while studying, it’s the work part that gets me, a believing woman would get the degree she is interested in and when she has kids she would tend to the household fully and when they grow up she could do whatever she likes since she has more free time. Daniel is conflating two issues here. Islam does not restrict the right of a female to acquire 'ilm, and be of service to her community. Sure western academia is corrupt, and the university campuses in the western world are filled with fahsha, however, that has nothing to do with Islam's injunctions on gaining ilm, which is equally applicable to men and women. Just as there are Muslim women who lose their faith on campuses, there are equally many more Muslim women who's faith is strengthened on campuses or who does not compromise her hijab and niqab in many cases. So his examples are completely anecdotal. However, what is dangerous is this idea that he is implying that Islam restricts women's right to acquiring ilm. Maybe that's what he's been taught or is the position of his teachers, but it ain't the position of giants like Imam Ghazzali for example.

I don't even get the problem of there being prestige in it? That goes both ways, are men going to persue being a doctor if there's no pay or prestige? She said, ‘We used to treat the wounded and take care of the sick…’” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, no. 313). "The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to go to battle with Umm Sulaym and other women with her from the Ansaar, and they would give water and attend to the wounded." Ibn Qudaamah thus said, Chapter on what is permissible to be seen by non-Mahram men: It is permissible for a male doctor to check whatever parts of her (the woman's) body that the medical examination warrants for this is considered a necessity ... It is permissible for a male witness to look at the face of a woman concerning whom he is testifying. Women should go and be educated for security. To help themselves if something goes wrong in her life and she can support herself. That way if she gets married and her husband is abusive to her she can leave find a means of financial income.

Many women after their husband passes don't marry and sacrifice their whole life for children. Because marrying another man would risk the child's future. Although it's good for women to learn a useful skill to potentially make money from, I don't like the reasoning to do it in case her husband is abusive. It gives the impression that men are abusive, but that is unfair. Also, women are extremely emotional when they don't get what they want from their husband, whether that enough time with him, enough affection, or certain products she wanted to buy but her husband didn't let her buy. Women literally think their husband is being "Abusive" for not letting her buy something or not taking her on some vacation she wanted badly. She literally thinks she is being a "prisoner" because her husband didn't take her out one weekend. Real abuse does exist but it's not the norm. And women also abuse and manipulate men. Yet most men are not as quick to give up on their marriages.
I agree with so much of Brother Daniel's opinions and views, but in regards to women's education, I just understand him. A few points to summarize my thoughts: 1. I understand the detrimental effect that a secular education can have on both genders, and especially women. I actually think that a mandatory 12 year schooling is ridiculous overall, but really useful for a modern state. 2. I know that banning female education will produce a great deal of resentment and anger. To provide something for men and not for women, especially living in a materialistic age, will produce that. 3. Non-religious education is not mandatory for both genders, but just because it is not mandatory does not mean that it can be banned. For things to be banned/haram there has to be enough clear cut commands in both the Quran and the Sunnah. 4. Living the comfortable modern lives that we are living, it is unlikely that removing education will incentivise people to marry young. 5. I find Brother Daniel's rhetoric on this very hard to listen to because his stance (to ban female education) is very unrealistic in the long term. 6. Banning female education is going to create women who will resent Islam because humans generally hate being told what to and what not to do. It is similar to the backlash that feminism is now facing becasue people are so fed up with feminist propaganda being shoved down their throats. 7. Taliban leaders are hypocrites which is why people are enraged. Families of many TB leaders live in Doha and, yes, their daughters go to a normal school. The newly rich Taliban actually have home tutors for their daughters and, yes, for non-religious subjects like maths and science. Reminds me of Orwell's Animal Farm. Some half thought solutions: 1. Schooling should not be mandatory after 14 for both genders. 2. Schools should teach non-religious sciences through a Qur'anic worldview. For example, evolution should be taught but it should be taught in order to refute it, not affirm it. 3. Throughout the schooling years, much emphasis should be put on the importance of building families and adhering to gender roles. This does not mean that there won't be any female CEOs, it will just mean that this will not be a glorified role for a woman. 4. A healthy culture of shame should be cultivated in both genders, especially women since women are the gatekeepers of relationships. 5. Being good wives and mothers should be taught as the ultimate good that a Muslim woman can do to please Allah. 6. Islamic rights of men and women should be taught instead of secular human rights.
Good points. A few points of mine (just one or two) 1. In regards to evolution, evolution of animals (eg. Darwin's finches) would be fine to teach because it's in regards to how ANIMALS evolve in their surroundings. With regards to humans, maybe a more Anthropological/sociological teaching with an Islamic lens (eg. How did humans evolve and develop things and cities, etc. After adam AS fell from jannah). 2. Public education (math, science, English, social studies, etc) should be mandatory till 18, Similar to the education of now, but after 9 thr kids should be separated until 18. Then 18 is post secondary but again also segregated. Then women are free to learn about taxes and finance and accounting and medicine, etc. Similar to men, but segregated. And this works fine even if two students are married. They can live at home (probably the boys), finish their 4 years (bc tbh, the 4 years for the girl is just basic knowledge, she doesn't need a phd), then if the boy wants he can either continue further or start working or whatever. Mind you, this is a possible scenario where both get their education. But if the girl wants to stop after 18 (bc in this day and age, which 15yo girl is emotionally and mentally mature enough for marriage?) That's fine. Just possible scenario

Being a "female doctor" is not simply "imbued with prestige" by modern western society. Being a doctor regardless of one's sex is a universally prestigious position in and of itself. Doctors regardless of their sex (and their historical equivalents) have been highly regarded morally (though not necessarily generously rewarded) across cultures and across history because humans recognize the value of saving lives and ending people's suffering. If today, male and female doctors are more highly regarded and rewarded than their historical equivalents, that's because with scientific advances, Allah has made them a means (sabab) to help even more than in the past. This is true even in third world nations where practicing medicine is indeed a minimum wage job. This is difficult for some people to imagine, but it is a fact that there are places in the world where doctors really struggle financially just like everyone else. In these nations, even while doctors are struggling to make ends meet, they are valued and looked up to. Mr. Haqiqatjou, as a Muslim, you should understand better than anyone why medicine is a noble profession whose practitioner is worthy of special regard : (Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors.) Surah Al-Maïdah 32. If you would like to take away the high social regard and generous reward from female doctors, you're going to have to do the same to male doctors. That would be unfair.

They literally stated that Doctors are paid minimum wage in 3rd world countries and failed to realize that this statement proves that Doctors don't need special regard or high salaries in order to serve communities. That if no doctors existed Allah could not and would not remove suffering by any other means. as a women with a degree in analytics and hopefully soon to apply for a master’s program. A city that’s educated is important. Education doesn’t stop at learning to read and write. I don’t know why it’s a problem when a women achieves high position but he shows society and “some” cultures are healing. Education is not limited to degrees and worldy knowledge. Looking at the example of the wife if the Prophet Aluhisalatu wassalam, she mastered many sciences of knowledge without going to school. They were knowledge of Islam and the life of the Prophet Sallalahu Alyhi wasallam, knowledge of lineage, medicine, Hadith traditions (being amongst those who transmitted the most Hadith traditions), Fiqh (jurisprudence), poetry and knowledge of inheritance (which requires a lot of mathematical skill). In fact, she was a teacher to many male sahaba companions, who would come to ask her of an issue they were struggling on, as she was considered an expert in Islamic knowledge. This helped preserve the religion for the Muslim Ummah. She is just one example of many.

As a person who left islam (al hamdulillah I took chahada 2 years ago) after 3 semesters of doubt in university, and have seen so many murtad and muslim girls wearing hijab in a campus bar. I can say Daniel is even under reality.
First person who told me to go to college was an independant muslim woman psychologist. She had no islamic education (but pretends to) that is why she couldnt make the difference between islamic aqida' and kufr that we are taught in uni. See the consequences of this ? Also she is responsable (as a couple therapist) of so many talaaq because of her lack of tarbiya.
Hospitals don't just need doctors. They need nurses and hospital staff you silly. Can women learn and work those jobs? Or just doctors? Only doctors CANT run an entire hospital or medical space!
I understand Daniel's points but a lot of his followers just make really bad arguments with blanket statements and the opposition to them also makes really bad arguments but it's nice that he is raising the question. Muslims can learn whatever they want but only basic Islamic education is fard. The other stuff isn't fard but is very useful so people should learn it but we cannot deny that there is a problem with the education system in the west (factory of secularism) and women working ( leading to higher rates of divorces and lower subjective happiness according to studies, longer time to get married). I dont have reakky much problem why is because she isn't putting it before her 5 kids including me because I realize we need her so much without her then our family would be fractured. It's very simple I guess: if sisters want to pursue higher education then it should not violate any of the laws of Islam. If they can do that then there is absolutely no problem. The reality is very different, but I'm not going to get into that argument. May Allah help us all do what's most pleasing to him. The same goes for men!

As a Muslim woman, I thank Allah so much for allowing me to went to school to study science. Only until high school tho, not college. So when I read Quran about Allah's signs in nature, in the heaven and earth, in ancient ruins, or anything, I could understand. Like when Dr brown, a convert, explained scientifically about his thoughts of why the creation of things around us are clues for Allah's miracle, I could comprehend. You must also remember, prophet's wife, Hafsah, who was also the daughter of Omar Ibn Khathab, was able to write and read. So she helped the prophet to write down Quran. Nurses were completely prohibited. Women could not vote. It lasted until the end of the dictatorship in 1974

Personally, I think it is best for both Muslims and Muslimas to learn their fard ayn (the obligatory knowledge, the true higher education) concerning their Deen before going to college. I’ve seen quite a few who have left Islam thinking that they have found enlightenment elsewhere while in college. Here in America I have witnessed both Muslims and Muslimas who throw away Islam behind their backs and run wild with kufaar on or around these campuses. If their parents or people knew what they were doing when not under the eyes or supervision of their people, they would stop supporting their education and keep their children from attending those schools.

She said, ‘We used to treat the wounded and take care of the sick…’” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, no. 313). "The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to go to battle with Umm Sulaym and other women with her from the Ansaar, and they would give water and attend to the wounded." Ibn Qudaamah thus said, Chapter on what is permissible to be seen by non-Mahram men: It is permissible for a male doctor to check whatever parts of her (the woman's) body that the medical examination warrants for this is considered a necessity ... It is permissible for a male witness to look at the face of a woman concerning whom he is testifying. ( To anyone saying that this is a "Darura" as it was during war and what is impermissible become permissible, please remember that war or Jihad are not Fardhu for women and those women are thus there voluntarily, and we could just dismiss two famous Sahabi Rufaydah Al Islamiyah RA and Al-Shifaa Binti Abdullah Al Quraisiyah RA who spent their life as female doctor ). My grandmother, my aunts and my mother. None of them went to college beside very fundamental education. All of them are pious women, some of the most noblest women I've ever met in my life. And their words and counsel, I take VERY seriously, even for their lack of education. I respect all of them a HUNDRED FOLD over the opinions of a muslim feminist. At any topic. At any level. At any time. And I am a traditional muslim male with very tradition and conservative values. edit : when i said "lack of education", i dont mean religious education, i was referring to secular education. They weren't scholars but they were taught the fundamentals and principles of our religion as necessary.
Hey brother please don't label one's educatedness solely on worldly secular education or degrees. If anything most Muslims are not educated enough Islamic wise, and that's a shame. Heck most Muslimahs today don't know anything about the ins and outs of motherhood, wifehood let alone how to cook. These sorta education are lacking in people these days

Daniel you have completely missed the point here. I don’t know WHO has ever given an argument that women must be educated to become doctors..! Women must be educated end of discussion. It’s completely necessary for both men and women to have a good education for either working or bringing up children or being able to conduct themselves in day-to-day society. Daniel has an extremely educated wife , possibly she is more educated than him and articulate , or possibly they both are balanced , but Daniel you would not have that same attraction to a woman you can’t talk to , have discussions with etc..

What makes Muslims so confident, that in copying the west in its way of life and institutions, that we won't be plagued by the exact same problems that effect their societies? Mere vague references to the Quran and Sunnah won't prevent this. With women becoming economically independent and spending increasing amounts of time outside the home, there has clearly been a subversion, or at the very least, reform of traditional gender roles which don't seem to be working. We only need to look at divorce statistics since the advent of the birth control pill (this is of course not to say that it is the sole reason).

If I am understanding correctly, you are saying that we need female doctors but since the role of doctor (and a few other essential roles) are what we need females to fill out (but we don't need females to fill out other non essential roles), then we shouldn't have all women be educated to such a high calibre and therefore should not encourage women to pursue higher education. Okay...if we were to employ such a tactic then how would we decide which women should pursue medicine and which should not? Being a doctor requires certain educational requirements, talents, discipline etc and therefore a vetting process is needed to weed out the very best among the pool of candidates. Whilst I agree that higher education is being mistakenly put on a pedestal to women, its main advantage is that it provides essential fields such as medicine a large population to extract the very best and most talented individuals from, so that you get the very best doctors. Drastically reducing this population means you miss out on recruiting the very best.
The pool for the so called very best is much more limited in an open to all fields education system. A person who could've been the best doctor in the world may end up as a CEO doing nothing else but increase her wealth. What Daniel proposes and with limited vital roles to pursue which actually are beneficial would actually bring out the best more than the liberal system. The potentially best doctor is far more likely to end up studying gender studies and getting confused about basic biological facts like the ability to differentiate man from woman, that's modern education.
Also, there's not just doctors. There's midwives/doulas as well which doesn't need a lot of training at all. Just maybe 6 months to a year of training is enough.
my friend in Jordan could not find any female doctor at the hospital she was giving birth at. I could not find any female rheumatologist in a Saudi city I used to live in. These are serious struggles for Muslim women. We have to uncover our auras and be touched by men, it's extremely humiliating and uncomfortable. I didn't have this issue in non-Muslim countries.

Firstly bro Daniel, with all respect… and I do consider you very knowledgeable but Islam is based on the use of profound intellect. Those countries that have stopped educating women have ineffective cut “their nose to spite their face” the consequence of which will be felt over the years. The best is to educate your daughters and while she’s still studying get her married… allow her to flourish in both worlds- Muslims should really be at the fore of societal fronts and we should be the ones dictating moral grounds!! “Free mixing” is only a sin if you are in communication with opposite gender. Free mixing is available everywhere. I study engineering at Uni and there are rarely women. I don’t need to mix with women, we have a mussallah at our University in Canada so I pray 5x in congregation with 40-50 brothers Alhamdullilah. Also I’ve never heard the word “feminist” or LGBT promotion on campus. Your arguments are all extreme examples. The fitnah at school is the same as the fitnah at the grocery store or parking lot. So by your logic, people should stop driving or going to the store, because there is free mixing on the roads and stores. Also, I’ve read through the comment, 99% of people who are against college / university aren’t smart enough to get a degree anyway
You can literally get a degree online nowadays and there are even all women’s colleges for sisters to go to. Daniel’s own wife went to a mixed Ivy League college.
To be fair you are studying engineering, your experience will be waaaaay different than other programs. Engineering is basically the same as going to a gender segregated islamic university

This is a really disappointing discussion. It’s backward and terrifying. First of all, it takes a lot of money to get into medical college. Second, it takes so so much hard work and desiccation just to complete the medical degree and lastly, then there post graduation. But you wouldn’t know. You aren’t a doctor. You have no idea the kind of studies and academic excellence one has to achieve in order to deal with human lives. Ever gave CPR to a dying person? No right. So you can’t imagine. And lastly, about this Co-Ed. I am all for mixed colleges. You have any idea how much homosexuality has increased in Pakistan in all female and all male institutions????? It’s skyrocketed! I met so many lesbians from all girls colleges. So no thank you. Better to be in a co-educational institution then an all female one. And if you’re good and have a good and faithful upbringing, naturally you’ll stay away from all the bad stuff in university like the 90% of students in Pakistani universities do!
I am a doctor. And a significant amount of my women colleagues who i work with will choose to be with their family rather than enslave themselves for arrogant patients you find in the cities that would end up suing you or viral videoing you just for views. The profession is glorified. If you knew the reality of how much doctors are enslaved in their hospitals (majority) and how many of them actually wishes to quit and enter into private sectors (minority of doctors) you probably wouldnt spend all that money and time to send your daughter into that kind of life. Some women might want to do it (minority) and for those women, yes encourage them to the max because they might actually be conscientious enough to reach sub-subspecialties like pediatric neuroanesthetist. But trust me the others (majority) will not spend one minute in the hospital in exchange for a minute with their child. The medicine profession has just been overglorified and lay people like you just dont understand it.

Yes I agree there are many many social evils and violence against lady doctors in the periphery side and that’s why most females don’t do periphery for safety reasons. But I have NEVER come across parents who don’t want their daughters to be doctors. In fact, their only priority is for their daughter to become a doctor no matter whether from government medical colleges or private. And you need to acknowledge another harsh reality: when lady doctors get married, their priorities change and their husband and children are their top tier priority. And that’s how it ought to be. But it’s not always the case. I have met so many amazing lady doctors going into specialised fields like surgical oncology, vascular surgery and cardiac anaesthesiology all the while raising kids and looking after their homes. Your comment just shows a narrow perspective. I have worked in both government, private, and international hospitals and this is my observation especially of Pakistani female doctors.

This educational institution and the chase to get selected in exam puts this competitive unnatural nature in wman which is a reason she competes with her husband within a marriage and would lead to her initiating divorce if he is somehow not falling in her hypergamous nature. This also increases “ungratefulness” in wman with regards to their husband and can lead her to “hell fire” among the other “ungrateful” wman.

You say that there should be an iq test or something and only a fraction who score high should go to an all-girls med school. My question: why can't more girls go to med school (or other schools for that matter) if its an all-girls school anyway? Is your problem with mixed education ( that doesn't seem to be the topic here since your talking about an all-girls schools) or about educating women in itself? Seems to be the latter which doesn't have any basis in Islam.
I think it's also important to make a distinction between (actual) education and college/university. In my experience, the latter is just for credentials, very little learning actually happens given the constant pressure, extremely tight timelines, and rigid assessment methods. Education, can, and often is, a product of self-study where you can stay home and go through a textbook with some supplementary materials. So the real argument ends up not even being about not wanting women to get educated, it's just about not sacrificing their upbringing for mostly useless credentials, but it's clear that people want to push this false narrative to frame it as a "violation" of (their arbitrary definition of) women's rights.
Gaining knowledge is a obligation upon every muslim,...but the problem we have today is institutionalized education (western standard) which negatively impact society
Daniel literally says women should be discouraged from education verbatim. His reasoning is there are fitnah in a university setting (valid critique of university in the west) and it elevates a woman's status and inspires a career which delays marriage. The thing about this argument is that it cannot be applied as a general advice for Muslims in the west. Single income households are unfeasible to the vast majority of people in the west and probably even the Muslim world. A degree is a proven way make more money and it opens the doors to cushier perhaps work from home opportunities you wouldn't have without a degree. Daniels advice for homeschooling your children and not sending them to uni only applies to the 1% that can afford it and his primary arguments aren't in the quran and sunnah. There's nowhere in the religion that discourages women's education its all secular reasoning.

There are 2 types of ppl who are of the Dunya. The first is he who fears the Dunya. Everything he is afraid of is in the Dunya. The second is he who loves the Dunya. Everything he loves is in the Dunya. Those who fear the Dunya for themselves push that fear and anxiety onto their children. I have the same issue sending my sons to a mixed environment for higher education, I have 4 sons an 3 daughters and I can’t stomach the idea of any of them mixing, just for qualification. My ideal scenario would have to be marriage first then uni.
colleges in the middle east aren't that bad though my sisters went to college me and my brother also did in Egypt Syria and Kuwait, the sexes are sperated by morals as in half of the lecture hall is women and the other half is men there is barely any interaction between the two and whoever does so is shunned socially by their peers I know some people who are married and studying and my sisters also knoe a lot of women who are married and studying and thank allah non of us has committed any haram because of college or had any haram relationship so the problem was never about women's education it's just about the western society you guys find yourself living in.
I am a female medical student studying in a non muslim country. For me its the worst descision i ever made and i would not send my daughter or son to a non muslim country to study. However i would want to finish my studies and practice medicine as it will help me and my family too. I want to get married soon before postgraduate studies. I'll see how that goes. InshaAllah i'll get somebody without getting into haram relationship.

It's really funny how he thinks that women going outside would immediately lead to sins. The quran doesn't say that women cannot earn money. What is halal for a man is also halal for a woman,provided that it is not gender specific. This redpill version of islam is very deviated from the Qur'an and Hadith. Where does it say that only this percent of women are allowed to be educated? Why can't you suggest practical solutions like women shouldn't be afraid to be married in college? Shaykh Al-Albaani رحمه الله used the Hadith: _"Women are the twin halves of men."_ as evidence that whatever is unlawful for women to seek of knowledge, is also unlawful for men. And whatever is lawful for men to seek of knowledge, is also lawful for women. If the institution has mixed genders, then that is a Fitnah for both men and women. If the woman needs to travel long distances 40-80 km, then she needs a Mahram to travel with her. But flying to another state or to another country alone is not allowed.
Al-Albaani رحمه الله said:
"The basic principle in this regard is that everything that is required with regard to males is also required with regard to females, and what is permissible for males is permissible for females, with no differentiation, as is indicated by the words of the Prophet ﷺ: _“Women are the counterparts of men.”_ Narrated by ad-Daarimi and others. So it is not permissible to differentiate except on the basis of a text to that effect.

These deobandis should focus on educating the people on Tawhid and Salafi 'Aqidah lest you get apostates clinging on to aircrafts or shouting on the streets for liberalism and disbelievers to re-invade. All the transportation will by law have safe spaces and accommodations for you. Every profession will have women experts so that our daughters and sisters do not have to go to strange men. You'll have all the worldly things you covet as a Mu'allafat Qulub initiative for you, in order to soften your hearts and protect you from the disbelievers that are beautifying their vile values for you with the ignorance of the deobandi maturidi enmity to education. All companies will have floors for only women workers. Everything will be accommodated for you insh'Allah. Become Salafis and ditch the Ahlul Bid'ah.
To the sisters in Islam, just look at the difference. Madinah is run by Salafis, and the disbelievers ranked Madinah as the safest place for women travelers. Compare that to where sufis, deobandis, ash'aris or maturidis run. They can't even purify the land from shirk, so how did you expect them to allow you to have knowledge that will increase you in Eemaan and protect you from the ideologies of the disbelievers like liberalism and feminism or to bring safety to the land? What's more dangerous to a Muslim than any disbelievers, are the Ahlul Bid'ah.
A common problem i noticed in our muslim society :alot of muslim parents are in constant conflict with their daughters, on the first hand they encourage them to be independant and go to a mix college to get educated and have a career , and the other hand they expect their daughters to not engage in haram relationship and dress modestly and be obeidant to the father. Which is a nearly impossible equation so they blame it on " this generation went astray"

As a woman, I got a master's degree in Law, and for me, the situation was kinda reversed. I was taught just the very basics of Islam, and I wasn't practicing. My in-depth interest in Islam started exactly when I, as a Law student, was required to study comparative religion. It was then I actually understood that Islam is the truth and the religion of the Creator of everything. I started to study hadiths, and only then a lot of things that were confusing before became clear.
That being said, the degree doesn't necessarily give you an education. As our professors told us, "university only provides material, but only you are able to teach yourselves". Therefore, education IS important and everyone must do their research in order to not get astray, but with today's resources, it can be done at home as well.

About how - well, as per usual seminar preparation procedure. The professor would give us the material, we'd study and answer in seminars later. Sometimes there were debates, sometimes quizzes. And, ofc, I automatically started doing the research, and I was like "oh wow, i wish I had learnt this way earlier!".
@Daniwoodzz I'm 25. I was always open for marriage, but finding any Muslim in my previous, Christian majority country was difficult, let alone finding someone who's suitable for marriage. The degree definitely didn't get in the way of that.
The reason I agreed to pursue education is because I was expected to work (even now in a presumably Muslim majority country people keep asking me why I don't work, not because I have a degree, but because "everyone should"). What actually matters is the knowledge I gained and most importantly - the fact that it brought me closer to Islam. Before that I never realized the importance of religion in everyday life. But the university made me do my research in religions, and I understood that I needed to implement Islam in my lifestyle, because that's the actual purpose of our lives, to submit our lives to God. It's not just about not committing sins as I thought, it's also about doing your obligations to Allah and to people.
And one of our obligations to people is not to put each other down, but rather encourage and guide to the right path.
You never know how people you don't know live. There's no way for you to know what my environment used to be, whether I have a male provider to not work myself, whether I have the financial stability to move to a more religious country. Or maybe I even have health issues that may prevent marriage, who knows.
There are so many reasons for people being in a situation they are in.
It's not haram to get an education, in fact, it's compulsory for every Muslim to gain knowledge in order to know your obligations and not go astray.
As long as you getting an education doesn't jeopardize the performance of your obligations and doesn't lead you to haram, it's acceptable.

As you said, people have free will. If a person wants to disobey the rules, he will do that even with all the limits put on him. If the person has pure heart, then even will all freedom he will restrict himself from anything haram.
Take book for example. Books are generally a good thing, supposedly. We study through them, we document everything in them. But there can be different content. There are educational books, there are history books. And there can be books with wicked content, like black magic or, astaghfirullah, indecent books. The latter are surely forbidden even in the form of a book. But the mere existence of impermissible content doesn't make the books in general haram.
So yes, those weak arguments can be easily refuted.

My opinion is Islam doesn't stop a woman from excelling in other fields like technology, finance, leadership, academics. The key is creating the right balance. The primary objective of a married woman is proper upbringing of her kids but it is a responsibility of both husband and wife. Although mothers play a stronger role in that. However, if she gets proper support from her husband and parents she can contribute in other forms too. Take a look at malaysian families..like the happiest people..many women are enterprenuers and husbands are supportive even in household chores..and together as a family they focus on proper upbringing of kids. Having such passion is definitely a choice for women, a woman can choose just to take care of home and children but another woman can choose to have a career and may be delegate some of her chores and that should be fine as long as she is taking care of upbringing of her kids.

As a Muslim woman, in my opinion, forcing either a man or a woman to have a college degree is absurd. Yes, we need to push studies and advance the Muslim population, I definitely agree on making college and university a norm for Muslims, but to make it mandatory is a bit too far, considering that not everyone can afford college both financially or mentally and not every knowledge needs a school for it.
In my country (pakistan), more than half of female students in medical schools are pursuing medical degree just so that they can get a good marriage proposal and social prestige. About 60-70% of lady doctors don't practise this profession after marriage due to its demanding nature and patriarchal system(wasting college seats and public resources). Here, people demand their future wife to be highly qualified (preferably doctor) and then expect her to be a traditional woman, raise kids, run household smoothly and obey her in laws in making career choices after marriage which is a bit unfair and weird to me tbh.

I'm a muslim woman. I pray 5 times a day. I wear hijab al hamdou li Allah. I'm married and i have agood relationship with my husband. I trust him. I respect him. I have no problem with him being the boss at home. I have 3 kids . And i sacrifice a lot to raise them well within the guidelines of our religion. But i'm also a physician. I chose to go to college and get an education, i also chose to work . My mother was also a physician , she worked her whole life while raising 4 kids. She was an exceptional wife.
I have a daughter. And i would love for her to have the choice to get a higher education IF she wants to. And to work IF she want that for herself.
When i listen to this channel i get the feeling that i'm misrepresented as the only 2 options ever discussed are either the feminist educated man-hater who fails her mission as wife and mother. Alhamdulillah that All muslim female doctors I know are married, some before 25, the rest under 30. They all share stories of numerous instances where female muslim patients were happy and relieved that they’re being tended by female muslim doctors.

Every woman should have some type of training or education. If your husband dies, what will you do? If your husband abuses you, what would you do? I’m Muslim, but My Christian mother-in-law was severely abused by her Christian husband. She couldn’t leave because she had absolutely no type of job training. She had no way of making money and becoming independent. So for years, she stayed with a man that beat her so severely that now 30 years later, her head trembles. I don’t know what Muslim men’s obsession is with keeping women uneducated. To keep them under your thumb obviously. Thank God most Muslim men don’t think this way. I’m not saying women should have full blown careers and neglect their families, but if the need arises she should be able to get a decent job.
You hit the nail on the head when you talked about the social prestige that comes with being a doctor. I once almost was engaged with a doctor and she scolded me, because I said that for me as a husband her medical degree was just a piece of paper to me and it matters to me more whether or not she would be a good mother and wife. She replied angry and told me that I should be proud that she is a doctor and a lot of blabla.. Alhamdoulilah, Allah had better plans for me.

I'll just say my perspective, so that maybe you can have better understanding of the other side.
Medicine is a very long and demanding profession. The prestige isn't arbitrary.
Firstly, you have to have been a very good student, which means you've studied hard all these years, you focused on your studies and didn't play as much as your friends as a child, go out as much as other young people, enjoy holidays, attend family events.
Then you win the right to go to medical school and whatever stress and workload you had before doesn't even compare. You have to keep reading, being over the books, stressing over the exams, crying, staying in your room all day, studying even when you're sick. And this goes on for many years. You see people around you going on with their lives, being on different stages, but there you are at the same stage for 6 years. And that's not all, you have specialization and after that long working hours.
But at the end you deal directly with humans' lives. You're there for people at their most difficult times. You get the prestige not only because becoming a doctor is sth hard that can't be achieved by many, but also because how you have the power and the ability to help people when they feel the most helpless. Surely nothing can happen without the will of Allah, but a doctor is the means through which a person can heal by God's will. Imagine if you're in a very difficult situation, maybe your child is dying of hunger and of cold and then one person comes and offers you a warm place stay and food to eat. With what eyes will you see that person? So that's why doctors get their prestige.
So what DH said is actually both impossible and also unfair. I understand his logic and the point he wanted to make, but there's a reason why some professions are more prestigious than others. Medicine isn't prestigious because of the money, you can actually get much more money and faster by choosing some other professions.
Now going back to our point. Because you've dedicated so much of your life to this profession, you can't really divide between you, your character and your profession. So it's like being a doctor is a personality trait. And when sb says I don't care for your degree, it feels like a personal attack. Because your degree represents your hard work, your sacrifices and basically most of your life till now. That's all you've learned to do and all you've been doing. If that's removed from you then what is left. It's like an existential crisis 😅.
On the other hand now I can understand the perspective of a man who says this to the woman he wants to marry. At the end of the day he's marrying you as a woman, not you as a doctor. He cares for what you can offer as a wife and mother and not what you offer to your patients as a doctor.
Now that I understand the 2 perspectives I believe there should be some sort of middle ground. A man is certainly right in his request, but on the other hand he must realize that woman's character is greatly shaped by her profession. If he likes that she's hard working and disciplined, her journey to become a doctor greatly impacted that. If he likes that she's a giver, helps people and makes sacrifices for a greater good then surely her profession influenced that as well. And lastly agreeing to marry a doctor means that you agree to understand her long working hours and to be supportive of her when she needs it (like she has exams, she needs to study, because medicine is not like you graduated once and you're done). So it's not quite possible to completely create a division between a woman's personal life in the family and her professional life as a doctor.
Not all can understand this and not all can put up with this, and it's definitely their choice, but they need to be aware of the reality before deciding.

The lack of the interactions with men makes it almost impossible to see things from men's perspective. That's why we can have the reaction of your ex fiance (if I can call her that) when we're faced with such a perspective for the first time. If you want to get a decent job, you will need college education. Additionally, in the US there is a big gap in intelligence and understanding between the educated and the uneducated. I agree you do not need to go to university to get educated, you can go to an Islamic program, etc. but the fact remains unless you want to work a very low wage job, most people will need to go to college. There's nothing wrong with women going to college if it's by choice. Education should be free and available for everyone from a very young age. This DOES NOT go against our Islamic teachings, in fact, it reinforces them. In order for us to become competitive with other nations, our societies in the Muslim Umma needs to strive for bringing the elite, men or women to the positions where they can excel. There are countless women in my society (Tunisia) that created successful businesses and created prosperous lives for themselves abroad.
If there were female only schools this little issue wouldn’t be significant anymore. I don’t see any obstacles in marrying someone while studying, it’s the work part that gets me, a believing woman would get the degree she is interested in and when she has kids she would tend to the household fully and when they grow up she could do whatever she likes since she has more free time.

Daniel is conflating two issues here. Islam does not restrict the right of a female to acquire 'ilm, and be of service to her community. Sure western academia is corrupt, and the university campuses in the western world are filled with fahsha, however, that has nothing to do with Islam's injunctions on gaining ilm, which is equally applicable to men and women. Just as there are Muslim women who lose their faith on campuses, there are equally many more Muslim women who's faith is strengthened on campuses or who does not compromise her hijab and niqab in many cases. So his examples are completely anecdotal. However, what is dangerous is this idea that he is implying that Islam restricts women's right to acquiring ilm. Maybe that's what he's been taught or is the position of his teachers, but it ain't the position of giants like Imam Ghazzali for example.

If a husband is not fulfilling his obligations and the wife has grounds for divorce then after she divorces she can analyze the mistakes she and/or her family made in picking her husband and choose better next time. A hadeeth which describes Muslim women at the beginning of Islam practising a profession was narrated by Hafsah, concerning a woman who used to treat the wounded. Al-Bukhaari, may Allaah have mercy on him, reported in his Saheeh that Hafsah said: “A woman came and stayed at the fort of Bani Khalaf, and told us about her sister. Her sister’s husband used to go out on military campaigns with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). He had been on twelve campaigns, and she (his wife) had accompanied him on six. She said, ‘We used to treat the wounded and take care of the sick…’”

It is permissible for a male witness to look at the face of a woman concerning whom he is testifying.
( To anyone saying that this is a "Darura" as it was during war and what is impermissible become permissible, please remember that war or Jihad are not Fardhu for women and those women are thus there voluntarily, and we could just dismiss two famous Sahabi Rufaydah Al Islamiyah RA and Al-Shifaa Binti Abdullah Al Quraisiyah RA who spent their life as female doctor ).

Many women after their husband passes don't marry and sacrifice their whole life for children. Because marrying another man would risk the child's future. Many uneducated women from prestigious families has to work in low income jobs like tailoring etc to support their children.
Although it's good for women to learn a useful skill to potentially make money from, I don't like the reasoning to do it in case her husband is abusive. It gives the impression that men are abusive, but that is unfair. Also, women are extremely emotional when they don't get what they want from their husband, whether that enough time with him, enough affection, or certain products she wanted to buy but her husband didn't let her buy. Women literally think their husband is being "Abusive" for not letting her buy something or not taking her on some vacation she wanted badly. She literally thinks she is being a "prisoner" because her husband didn't take her out one weekend. Real abuse does exist but it's not the norm. And women also abuse and manipulate men. Yet most men are not as quick to give up on their marriages.
I agree with so much of Brother Daniel's opinions and views, but in regards to women's education, I just understand him. A few points to summarize my thoughts:
1. I understand the detrimental effect that a secular education can have on both genders, and especially women. I actually think that a mandatory 12 year schooling is ridiculous overall, but really useful for a modern state.
2. I know that banning female education will produce a great deal of resentment and anger. To provide something for men and not for women, especially living in a materialistic age, will produce that.
3. Non-religious education is not mandatory for both genders, but just because it is not mandatory does not mean that it can be banned. For things to be banned/haram there has to be enough clear cut commands in both the Quran and the Sunnah.
4. Living the comfortable modern lives that we are living, it is unlikely that removing education will incentivise people to marry young.
5. I find Brother Daniel's rhetoric on this very hard to listen to because his stance (to ban female education) is very unrealistic in the long term.
6. Banning female education is going to create women who will resent Islam because humans generally hate being told what to and what not to do. It is similar to the backlash that feminism is now facing becasue people are so fed up with feminist propaganda being shoved down their throats.
7. Taliban leaders are hypocrites which is why people are enraged. Families of many TB leaders live in Doha and, yes, their daughters go to a normal school. The newly rich Taliban actually have home tutors for their daughters and, yes, for non-religious subjects like maths and science. Reminds me of Orwell's Animal Farm.
Some half thought solutions:
1. Schooling should not be mandatory after 14 for both genders.
2. Schools should teach non-religious sciences through a Qur'anic worldview. For example, evolution should be taught but it should be taught in order to refute it, not affirm it.
3. Throughout the schooling years, much emphasis should be put on the importance of building families and adhering to gender roles. This does not mean that there won't be any female CEOs, it will just mean that this will not be a glorified role for a woman.
4. A healthy culture of shame should be cultivated in both genders, especially women since women are the gatekeepers of relationships.
5. Being good wives and mothers should be taught as the ultimate good that a Muslim woman can do to please Allah.
6. Islamic rights of men and women should be taught instead of secular human rights.
Good points. A few points of mine (just one or two)
1. In regards to evolution, evolution of animals (eg. Darwin's finches) would be fine to teach because it's in regards to how ANIMALS evolve in their surroundings. With regards to humans, maybe a more Anthropological/sociological teaching with an Islamic lens (eg. How did humans evolve and develop things and cities, etc. After adam AS fell from jannah).
2. Public education (math, science, English, social studies, etc) should be mandatory till 18, Similar to the education of now, but after 9 thr kids should be separated until 18. Then 18 is post secondary but again also segregated. Then women are free to learn about taxes and finance and accounting and medicine, etc. Similar to men, but segregated. And this works fine even if two students are married. They can live at home (probably the boys), finish their 4 years (bc tbh, the 4 years for the girl is just basic knowledge, she doesn't need a phd), then if the boy wants he can either continue further or start working or whatever. Mind you, this is a possible scenario where both get their education. But if the girl wants to stop after 18 (bc in this day and age, which 15yo girl is emotionally and mentally mature enough for marriage?) That's fine. Just possible scenario

Being a "female doctor" is not simply "imbued with prestige" by modern western society. Being a doctor regardless of one's sex is a universally prestigious position in and of itself.
Doctors regardless of their sex (and their historical equivalents) have been highly regarded morally (though not necessarily generously rewarded) across cultures and across history because humans recognize the value of saving lives and ending people's suffering.
If today, male and female doctors are more highly regarded and rewarded than their historical equivalents, that's because with scientific advances, Allah has made them a means (sabab) to help even more than in the past.
This is true even in third world nations where practicing medicine is indeed a minimum wage job. This is difficult for some people to imagine, but it is a fact that there are places in the world where doctors really struggle financially just like everyone else. In these nations, even while doctors are struggling to make ends meet, they are valued and looked up to.
Mr. Haqiqatjou, as a Muslim, you should understand better than anyone why medicine is a noble profession whose practitioner is worthy of special regard :
(Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors.) Surah Al-Maïdah 32.
If you would like to take away the high social regard and generous reward from female doctors, you're going to have to do the same to male doctors.

The individual believes Doctors save lives and end suffering. They do not believe Allah is Al-Qadir.
They literally stated that Doctors are paid minimum wage in 3rd world countries and failed to realize that this statement proves that Doctors don't need special regard or high salaries in order to serve communities.
They attribute the saving lives and ending suffering to other the Allah. They express a belief that if no doctors existed ppl would die sooner than Allah intends. That if no doctors existed Allah could not and would not remove suffering by any other means.

Looking at the example of the wife if the Prophet Aluhisalatu wassalam,
she mastered many sciences of knowledge without going to school. They were knowledge of Islam and the life of the Prophet Sallalahu Alyhi wasallam, knowledge of lineage, medicine, Hadith traditions (being amongst those who transmitted the most Hadith traditions), Fiqh (jurisprudence), poetry and knowledge of inheritance (which requires a lot of mathematical skill).
In fact, she was a teacher to many male sahaba companions, who would come to ask her of an issue they were struggling on, as she was considered an expert in Islamic knowledge. This helped preserve the religion for the Muslim Ummah.
She is just one example of many.

As a person who left islam (al hamdulillah I took chahada 2 years ago) after 3 semesters of doubt in university, and have seen so many murtad and muslim girls wearing hijab in a campus bar. I can say Daniel is even under reality.
First person who told me to go to college was an independant muslim woman psychologist. She had no islamic education (but pretends to) that is why she couldnt make the difference between islamic aqida' and kufr that we are taught in uni. See the consequences of this ?

Muslims can learn whatever they want but only basic Islamic education is fard. My mom is getting her degree right now. I dont have reakky much problem why is because she isn't putting it before her 5 kids including me because I realize we need her so much without her then our family would be fractured. It's very simple I guess: if sisters want to pursue higher education then it should not violate any of the laws of Islam. If they can do that then there is absolutely no problem. The reality is very different, but I'm not going to get into that argument. May Allah help us all do what's most pleasing to him. The same goes for men!

As a Muslim woman, I thank Allah so much for allowing me to went to school to study science. Only until high school tho, not college. So when I read Quran about Allah's signs in nature, in the heaven and earth, in ancient ruins, or anything, I could understand. Like when Dr brown, a convert, explained scientifically about his thoughts of why the creation of things around us are clues for Allah's miracle, I could comprehend. That strengthen my faith and honestly, those signs of Allah keep me protected from feminist agenda. And insya Allah protect me from following Dajjal. Simply because of science.
You must also remember, prophet's wife, Hafsah, who was also the daughter of Omar Ibn Khathab, was able to write and read. So she helped the prophet to write down Quran. She also memorized Quran that Omar Ibn Khathab asked her about verses in Quran to decide on a matter.

Personally, I think it is best for both Muslims and Muslimas to learn their fard ayn (the obligatory knowledge, the true higher education) concerning their Deen before going to college. I’ve seen quite a few who have left Islam thinking that they have found enlightenment elsewhere while in college. Here in America I have witnessed both Muslims and Muslimas who throw away Islam behind their backs and run wild with kufaar on or around these campuses. If their parents or people knew what they were doing when not under the eyes or supervision of their people, they would stop supporting their education and keep their children from attending those schools.

Al-Bukhaari, may Allaah have mercy on him, reported in his Saheeh that Hafsah said: “A woman came and stayed at the fort of Bani Khalaf, and told us about her sister. Her sister’s husband used to go out on military campaigns with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). He had been on twelve campaigns, and she (his wife) had accompanied him on six. She said, ‘We used to treat the wounded and take care of the sick…’”

"The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to go to battle with Umm Sulaym and other women with her from the Ansaar, and they would give water and attend to the wounded."
Ibn Qudaamah thus said,
Chapter on what is permissible to be seen by non-Mahram men: It is permissible for a male doctor to check whatever parts of her (the woman's) body that the medical examination warrants for this is considered a necessity ... It is permissible for a male witness to look at the face of a woman concerning whom he is testifying.
( To anyone saying that this is a "Darura" as it was during war and what is impermissible become permissible, please remember that war or Jihad are not Fardhu for women and those women are thus there voluntarily, and we could just dismiss two famous Sahabi Rufaydah Al Islamiyah RA and Al-Shifaa Binti Abdullah Al Quraisiyah RA who spent their life as female doctor ).

My grandmother, my aunts and my mother. None of them went to college beside very fundamental education.
All of them are pious women, some of the most noblest women I've ever met in my life. And their words and counsel, I take VERY seriously, even for their lack of education.

Women must be educated end of discussion. It’s completely necessary for both men and women to have a good education for either working or bringing up children or being able to conduct themselves in day-to-day society.
Daniel has an extremely educated wife , possibly she is more educated than him and articulate , or possibly they both are balanced , but Daniel you would not have that same attraction to a woman you can’t talk to , have discussions with etc..

What makes Muslims so confident, that in copying the west in its way of life and institutions, that we won't be plagued by the exact same problems that effect their societies? Mere vague references to the Quran and Sunnah won't prevent this.
With women becoming economically independent and spending increasing amounts of time outside the home, there has clearly been a subversion, or at the very least, reform of traditional gender roles which don't seem to be working. We only need to look at divorce statistics since the advent of the birth control pill (this is of course not to say that it is the sole reason).
All Muslim women MUST get an education. Muslim husbands are letting their wives down BIG TIME! After having dedicated 8,10,15,20 years to upbringing kids and taking care of the family, the abuse doesn't stop. At the end of it all, a woman is left stranded and has to start from the scratch. If I am understanding correctly, you are saying that we need female doctors but since the role of doctor (and a few other essential roles) are what we need females to fill out (but we don't need females to fill out other non essential roles), then we shouldn't have all women be educated to such a high calibre and therefore should not encourage women to pursue higher education. Okay...if we were to employ such a tactic then how would we decide which women should pursue medicine and which should not? Being a doctor requires certain educational requirements, talents, discipline etc and therefore a vetting process is needed to weed out the very best among the pool of candidates. Whilst I agree that higher education is being mistakenly put on a pedestal to women, its main advantage is that it provides essential fields such as medicine a large population to extract the very best and most talented individuals from, so that you get the very best doctors. Drastically reducing this population means you miss out on recruiting the very best.

The pool for the so called very best is much more limited in an open to all fields education system. A person who could've been the best doctor in the world may end up as a CEO doing nothing else but increase her wealth. What Daniel proposes and with limited vital roles to pursue which actually are beneficial would actually bring out the best more than the liberal system. The potentially best doctor is far more likely to end up studying gender studies and getting confused about basic biological facts like the ability to differentiate man from woman, that's modern education.

my friend in Jordan could not find any female doctor at the hospital she was giving birth at. I could not find any female rheumatologist in a Saudi city I used to live in. These are serious struggles for Muslim women. We have to uncover our auras and be touched by men, it's extremely humiliating and uncomfortable. I didn't have this issue in non-Muslim countries.

Also I’ve never heard the word “feminist” or LGBT promotion on campus. Your arguments are all extreme examples. The fitnah at school is the same as the fitnah at the grocery store or parking lot. So by your logic, people should stop driving or going to the store, because there is free mixing on the roads and stores. This is a really disappointing discussion. It’s backward and terrifying. First of all, it takes a lot of money to get into medical college. Second, it takes so so much hard work and desiccation just to complete the medical degree and lastly, then there post graduation. But you wouldn’t know. You aren’t a doctor. You have no idea the kind of studies and academic excellence one has to achieve in order to deal with human lives. Ever gave CPR to a dying person? No right. So you can’t imagine. And lastly, about this Co-Ed. I am all for mixed colleges. You have any idea how much homosexuality has increased in Pakistan in all female and all male institutions????? It’s skyrocketed! I met so many lesbians from all girls colleges. So no thank you. Better to be in a co-educational institution then an all female one. I am a doctor. And a significant amount of my women colleagues who i work with will choose to be with their family rather than enslave themselves for arrogant patients you find in the cities that would end up suing you or viral videoing you just for views. The profession is glorified. If you knew the reality of how much doctors are enslaved in their hospitals (majority) and how many of them actually wishes to quit and enter into private sectors (minority of doctors) you probably wouldnt spend all that money and time to send your daughter into that kind of life. Some women might want to do it (minority) and for those women, yes encourage them to the max because they might actually be conscientious enough to reach sub-subspecialties like pediatric neuroanesthetist. But trust me the others (majority) will not spend one minute in the hospital in exchange for a minute with their child.

Bro I don’t know which region or background you’re coming from, but the background I’m coming from, all the females in my neighbourhood are doctors and mostly working in private sector. Yes I agree there are many many social evils and violence against lady doctors in the periphery side and that’s why most females don’t do periphery for safety reasons. But I have NEVER come across parents who don’t want their daughters to be doctors. In fact, their only priority is for their daughter to become a doctor no matter whether from government medical colleges or private. And you need to acknowledge another harsh reality: when lady doctors get married, their priorities change and their husband and children are their top tier priority. And that’s how it ought to be. But it’s not always the case. I have met so many amazing lady doctors going into specialised fields like surgical oncology, vascular surgery and cardiac anaesthesiology all the while raising kids and looking after their homes. Your comment just shows a narrow perspective. I have worked in both government, private, and international hospitals and this is my observation especially of Pakistani female doctors.

@@isafcb312 The societal status and hierarchy which she gets makes her difficulty to get a high value man as her nature is hypergamous. This educational institution and the chase to get selected in exam puts this competitive unnatural nature in wman which is a reason she competes with her husband within a marriage and would lead to her initiating divorce if he is somehow not falling in her hypergamous nature.
This also increases “ungratefulness” in wman with regards to their husband and can lead her to “hell fire” among the other “ungrateful” wman.

You say that there should be an iq test or something and only a fraction who score high should go to an all-girls med school. My question: why can't more girls go to med school (or other schools for that matter) if its an all-girls school anyway? Is your problem with mixed education ( that doesn't seem to be the topic here since your talking about an all-girls schools) or about educating women in itself? Seems to be the latter which doesn't have any basis in Islam.
I think it's also important to make a distinction between (actual) education and college/university. In my experience, the latter is just for credentials, very little learning actually happens given the constant pressure, extremely tight timelines, and rigid assessment methods. Education, can, and often is, a product of self-study where you can stay home and go through a textbook with some supplementary materials. So the real argument ends up not even being about not wanting women to get educated, it's just about not sacrificing their upbringing for mostly useless credentials, but it's clear that people want to push this false narrative to frame it as a "violation" of (their arbitrary definition of) women's rights.

Daniel literally says women should be discouraged from education verbatim. His reasoning is there are fitnah in a university setting (valid critique of university in the west) and it elevates a woman's status and inspires a career which delays marriage. The thing about this argument is that it cannot be applied as a general advice for Muslims in the west. Single income households are unfeasible to the vast majority of people in the west and probably even the Muslim world. A degree is a proven way make more money and it opens the doors to cushier perhaps work from home opportunities you wouldn't have without a degree. Daniels advice for homeschooling your children and not sending them to uni only applies to the 1% that can afford it and his primary arguments aren't in the quran and sunnah. There's nowhere in the religion that discourages women's education its all secular reasoning.

We have insecurities. We can't even give our child basic education when it comes to Islam. In my society people send their children to School instead of the Madrasa. We're just a bunch of hypocrites.

There are 2 types of ppl who are of the Dunya. The first is he who fears the Dunya. Everything he is afraid of is in the Dunya. The second is he who loves the Dunya. Everything he loves is in the Dunya.
Those who fear the Dunya for themselves push that fear and anxiety onto their children. Desperate to try and avoid bad outcomes they make compromises in fear of this or that worst scenario.
Those who love the Dunya push that love onto their children. Desperate to get as much as they can so they can enjoy all that the world has to offer.

Women who fear being deserted by husbands need to choose Islamic men and put trust in Allah. This doesn’t validate millions of women becoming doctors in our present day it’s a tough stressful job and will lead to the downfall of Islamic society because kids will not be taken care of properly.

I have the same issue sending my sons to a mixed environment for higher education, I have 4 sons an 3 daughters and I can’t stomach the idea of any of them mixing, just for qualification. My ideal scenario would have to be marriage first then uni.

colleges in the middle east aren't that bad though my sisters went to college me and my brother also did in Egypt Syria and Kuwait, the sexes are sperated by morals as in half of the lecture hall is women and the other half is men there is barely any interaction between the two and whoever does so is shunned socially by their peers I know some people who are married and studying and my sisters also knoe a lot of women who are married and studying and thank allah non of us has committed any haram because of college or had any haram relationship so the problem was never about women's education it's just about the western society you guys find yourself living in.
I am a female medical student studying in a non muslim country. For me its the worst descision i ever made and i would not send my daughter or son to a non muslim country to study. However i would want to finish my studies and practice medicine as it will help me and my family too. I want to get married soon before postgraduate studies. I'll see how that goes. InshaAllah i'll get somebody without getting into haram relationship.
