The moment it dawns that Kirby has the most consistent, detailed lore in any Nintendo game. Zelda's shifting timelines and vague retcons don't have anything on it.
Zelda timeline is not that complicate if you just ignore the defeat timeline. It's clearly the timeline of all the games that doesn't follow continuity. The two other timelines make perfect sense.

Samuel Meyer the general theory is that Void Termina and Kirby are the same species but Void Termina is what happens when they're kind of being is born of Negative emotions/energy while Kirby was born of positive emotions/energy.
More like Kirby is the outcome when the Void larva takes on positive energy by and large. It's probably how Star Warriors are born, and Kirby is probably the purest of the lot.

Nintendo lore is chock-full of insanely overpowered stuff. Link never dies; as the chosen Hero, he simply rewinds reality to a previous point and tries again. Samus Aran is discussed by many GF Marines as this mythical übersoldier, and is the one being the Space Pirates (the scourge of the Galaxy) fear. She also blew up several planets. In Pokémon, you start out on a journey between the ages of ten and fifteen and eventually enslave gods. Shulk creates a new universe, Bayonetta literally punched her universe's God into the sun, Cappy can possess anything and bend it to his will, and we see here what Kirby is like.
Ganon is basically the reincarnation of Demise, who was a God of Evil in all but name. So Link has beaten Demise once and Ganon about 8 or nine times. Factor in Majora, who is capable of destroying the world and overpowering Giants who seem to be Termina's answer to the Golden Goddesses, and Bellum, who is on par with the Ocean King (another god), I'd say Link has a solid enough track record. As for Samus, remember that Mother Brain is capable of blowing up the planet they're on in their dying breaths. Phantoon is a weird multi-dimensional being that can become a superboss with a small portion of its being. And I don't know much about the Prime games, but Dark Samus and whatnot all seem to be in the same tier of "DBZ tier world enders."
@@Salnax Dark Samus is the Metroid Prime, a sentient, malevolent force made from the mineral Phazon. It (like the SA-X, Dark Samus is NOT female) is effectively an avatar of the planet Phaaze, which is an evil god in all but name. Think of Dark Samus as Rama or Ganon to Phaaze's Vishnu or Demise.
Actually it's more about how the emotions we are shown growing up have a profound affect on us. Void Termina, Zero, Zerotwo, Dark Mind, etc were originally made of the same substance as Kirby. However they were either left alone in the cold vacuum of space, on desolate lifeless worlds, or places tainted with hatred and rage. Kirby, Meta Knight, and Gooie however were born or at least lived on Popstar, a world full of love and happiness (For the most part.) Unless outside influences mess things up. So if they are surrounded by negative emotions throughout their early years when forming their mind, they become envoys of destruction/darkness. If the opposite is true and they're surrounded by love and compassion, they grow to protect and cherish.
I_Am_Dragoon that or kirby may have been partially a bing of untold power that was powered by positive energy from the start. He was made not as an accident, but as a cosmic answer to the potential distruction caused by negative feelings. In other words, maybe kirby is there universes messiah.

Metroid is about biological weapons and the danger that can be caused by poor management of said life. Samus is the only remaining person with a semblance of connection to said biological weapons and is one of those biological weapons. Genetically modified warrior given the most advanced weaponry known in her time. Now a terrorist to the galactic federation by preventing the creation of more weapons she has fought and tried to prevent from spreading. And may be part of the same universe. I'm not sure if that dreamland cameo is cannon to the metroid universe.
Part of me wants samus to fight some sort of spawn of zero in metroid prime 4 now that i watched these videos. I love sci fi horror and like lovecraftian stuff too, but what if you could mix the two?
I wonder when Hal Labs decided to include so much lore in the Kirby series, which are about a soccer ball sized pink marshmallow who fights mice over cake and races a penguin for parfaits. They could get away by only including enough plot to send Kirby on his way, yet we have seen the dark and tragic past of a business man driven mad by grief and the very supercomputer he repurposed to bring his daughter back to life, how a seemingly inanimate object sends a power hungry Halcandran down a self destructive spiral until all that there's left is a shell for it to possess, and how Kirby himself might not only be a member of the very intergalactic conquerors he had been fighting for all this time, but also an incarnation of the ungodly abomination that likely caused every single bad thing to have ever happened in the series to happen. I love Kirby.
There is a reason, at least why kumazaki kept on doing this like shimomura after he disappeared from the face of the world. Kumazaki is a very talented eldritch/horror artist. And since he is the Kirby director.... This explains A LOT.
Kirby fan from day one. I have always known. Always known to fear, and love our great lord kirby. He is both our greatest friend, and our greatest foe.
Of course Kirby is an elder god. An eldritch horror, containing infinite power, condensed into a giggling, capering ball on a paradise planet. He resembles Metaknight, but has been shown time and time again to be able to overpower things that defeated the noble warrior in an instant. He summons forth new abilities, new "mechanics" of reality alteration, as each new threat comes to him. Consuming enemies. Controlling and altering animals. Combining the essence of those he consumed into new, more devastating forms, seeming to grow more powerful with each abomination that comes against him and inevitably falls. Kirby is a cosmic horror story. For everything else in creation, at least. He's happy to eat strawberry shortcake and play with his friends, and he's not smart enough to get bored doing that. He's the perfect cleanup tool. The ancients didn't die out-they realized that there were too many creatures of unimaginable power, too many faults and cracks and tears in reality that lead to places of unimaginable hatred and power. So they left for a little while, and left behind their one-puff cleanup crew. *Hiiii~*
Cecil Palmer the only abilites kirby actually has that make him unique amongst his species (from the 3 or 4 of them that we've seen) are his infinite stomach and ability to copy powers. therefore, kirby is the aspect of gluttony. he takes in everything and makes it a part of himself. kirby is less of a being and more of an abstraction condensed into a being, bending space and altering matter at will. it's also why he's more than willing to eat people alive with a smile on his face.

He shows no actual care in the games, it’s just apathetic, compelling research (-and possible bewilderment for them being extinct in the first place). If anything, the opportunity to be king was out of a sense of *entitlement* for the young prince, because the halcanderans seemed to be gripping the lines of godlike.

I think void beings (Void termina, kirby, void soul, and Zero) can be manifested any number of times, It's possible that void itself is an ever present thing which can be called to form once enough power is gathered and the desired emotion is focused into the mass of power, the form void takes changing depending on the emoition it's being fueled with.

I was waiting during the entire video for the joke to come about all this lore coming from a game that was made for kids. A crack about Kirby's darkness being something people overlook, a dank reference for fanboys to complain about, a meme, an expectation of a punchline, anything. It never came. Kirby is a series about a horrific cosmos from the perspective of a child that doesn't comprehend what they're seeing. Much like how real children don't always understand that the thing they're viewing is the stuff of nightmares.
Honestly Metroid will always be my first true love in gaming- but yeah the closest to Kirby Dark Metroid has gotten was in Prime 3 when Dark Samus went full conqueror mode and tried basically corrupting everything in the galaxy to obey her will. So basically Zero, but in Metroid. Or the X Parasites who are basically John Carpenter's The Thing minus gore. So, again, not terribly far off from Zero. Or Ridley killing Samus's parents in front of her then telling her he ate them to add their biomass to his own to heal, implying their DNA is floating around in him somewhere just to add insult to PTSD riddled injury. I don't have a Kirby parallel for that one but I'm sure it exists.
i cant wait for the "Prepare to Poyo" series covering Wispy Woods and his eternal damnation to be sacrificed whenever the Pink Popstar Crusader is summoned to save his land, much like a virgin is sacrificed to the alter of the Poseidon to appease the Kraken upon its awakening by the Gods.
One of my favorite sounds is Kirby's voice when he says "hiiii~", especially in Star Allies, as they did a great job making it sound like it came directly from Kirby. That being said, hearing it at the end of this video sent a chill down my spine. Good job. You turned something adorable and made it terrifying. I didn't know you could MAKE Kirby terrifying. Or maybe... Kirby was already terrifying, and you just opened my eyes to HOW terrifying. Either way, I loved it. I'll be watching the rest of these, as I've been wanting to get into Kirby for a while, and you tickled my inner Lovecraftian fangirl.

I'd love to see a game where kirby's "true self" is revealed and it tries to destroy the universe but meta knight, bandanna dee, king dedede and magolor try to save Kirby from his true self.

The ending gave me chills... but not for the reason you may think. Nintendo had this planned since the beginning... everything led up to Void Soul's reveal, and I do mean EVERYTHING. The ending drawing scene showed me something. That tutorial wasn't teaching you how to draw Kirby, it was teaching you how to draw Void Termina. How do I know this? It never mentioned drawing hands or feet, the "artist" just drew it in. Sakurai had it all in mind all along.
I dont think Sakurai had 25-30 years worth of lore thought up when he first made Kirby. Also, Sakurai left Hal Laboratories because he didn't like that so many Kirby sequels were being made. So he hasn't worked on Kirby in a LONG time.
I'm sorry to ruin you guys' day, but Nintendo didn't plan this, and Sakurai ESPECIALLY didn't plan this. Sakurai only made 3 Kirby games, and those ones had the least amount of lore and horror in them. Shimomura made the dark matter trilogy, so he had a clear visoon. Then we have kumazaki, the current director. He took all the past games, melded them all together and added his incredibly deep lore to the mix flawlessly.. And this is because he is a very talented eldtrich and horror artist. So no, it wasn't always planned, but kumazaki wrote the following story to look like it was. Now that's great writing

No joke, Kirby has the deepest lore out of any Nintendo franchise. It's got ancient civilizations, time travel, alternate dimensions, monarchs driven mad by unseen forces (multiple times!!!), aliens, rampant capitalism, and an entire pantheon of eldritch gods.
I think Kirby is actually the most tragic character in the game. He is a god of destruction and horror stuffed inside a little ball with a face on it. He tries so hard to maintain his happy exterior. He hangs out with friends (MK, DDD, BD) he sleeps, he plays with butterflies all to keep himself calm because if he cracks, everyone he loves will suffer. That's why he starts a genocide at something as small as loosing a slice of cake. He needs a way to vent out his god like wrath so he can protect himself and others throughout the universe.

This has probably been pointed out, but one of Kirby's defining traits from the modern games is his ability to... copy. The Copy Ability. He can absorb the power of his foes and wield it against other opposing forces. Void Termina attacks with weapons, tools and strategies from old enemies. It's probably not consequential, but a cool thing to note nontheless.
He does. Remember when Hyness tosses the mages and himself in the Jamba Heart? When void termina uses the dual swords or the bows in his flying form. He imbues them with ice/fire/elecricity. He's using the mages and Hyness' elements.

But anyway Shulk gets his universe creating powers from Alvis who gets them from his link to the Conduit, Shulk by himself is not that powerful. But yes outside of that Shulk and Giygas are probably the most powerful Nintendo characters sonce they both have the powers of nearlt omnipotents sources. Kirby is not that far behind since he is able to destroy being that are literal embodiments of abstract concepts and gods that could be part of the Lovecraftian mythos in term of powers and nature.
I'd like to think that Kirby and Void Termina are made of the same stuff, but Void Termina was created of hate and chaos, causing it to grow with a lust for power, and eventually becoming the hulking beast we know of today, while Kirby was created of pure love and heroic-ness. Kirby also has a lust for something, not power, but more of a glutton, for cake.
Kirby IS said to have unlimited power in robobot, so his fights against the eldritch horrors make sense. Especially if you were to consider one important thing. The ability he got in star allies is from Void Termina. Turn back the clock once our pink puffball is older, wiser, stronger, and then it’s no surprise that they would be mistaken for a god. So here’s a throw away theory: Kirby becomes what Void termina was. Perhaps they were benevolent in intention, but missing the heart responsible for forging bonds, to care, to make allies amongst the stars, he’s nothing but a devistating beast bent on the annihilation of opposition. If Dedede hadn’t stolen the food and spurred Kirby into action, making them beloved by the populous of dreamland, would he have fought the truely dangerous threats to protect his home? I don’t expect this theory to be true, but figured I’d put my thoughts out there.

I mean he still is, but the theory is that Kirby's race is a similar or the same race as Void Termina. The difference being that Kirby is a kid who just wants eat cake and have fun with his friends, but is constantly interrupted by enemy kingdoms, rogue military, criminals, inter-dimensional invaders, hive-minded and corrupting conquerors, and hostile intergalactic corporations.

Anyone else notice that the dark heart in the failed ritual scene is different than the one at the end of the game? At the end of the game it's missing a piece. Which means we still haven't seen Void Terminus's true -- complete -- strength.
Those KRTDL backgrounds are so detailed. Makes me really want to play the canceled GC game. Too bad we may never play it. Excelent video! Of course, some of these theories about Void Termina shouldn't be taken as fact until we get proof, but the similarities are uncanny. Also, these remixes are amazing! He didn't make up any of the stuff about the ancients and the cult if you're talking about, but if it's not, there's more evidence about the connection between Void Termina and Kirby. Void Termina's sound effects are all slowed down Kirby's on top of the evidence he presented, and on top of this, here's a quote from the in-game description: "No telling if it's true, but according to the ancient scrolls, Void Termina may rise again in other forms depending on whether positive or negative energy is gathered. It seems this being of darkness will wander the galaxy until one day he is reborn into a new existence." Kirby is a positive energy version of Void termina.
I mean it's a good lead up but Void Termina's name is literally a pun on Zero. As in Final Zero (or Absolute) It's mentioned in the past that 0/Dark Matter were devoid of thought/emotion and they only learned of jealousy after coming in contact with Dedede in 2 and it spiraled out of control from there with only a small portion of it becoming Gooey as a result. The revived void termina is 0 reset to well, zero but with evil/darkness as a base. It comes in contact with Kirby first so it tries to replicate what's near it and the whole time your fighting it the poor thing is getting twisted back and forth between the good influence and the inherit evil (Dark Matter). Heck when you watch Voids animation between it's morphing it even gets Zero's smile and Chaos Soul is white just like him- you even get the little hexagon platforms from Kirby 64's final hidden level where you hunt him down. Everything else is good but just something to consider mentioning maybe. -Someone who's been working to spread the Kirby Lore for years.

Void's actual story is as sad as anything you though HAL could ever come up with. In the last fight of Soul Melter EX, Void smiles because he is reincarnating, and since he knows what he is gonna become, he is happy. Void Termina died sad because he would reincarnate as another Void. Void Soul died sad because he would reincarnate as another Void. Now, Void died happy because he knew what he was becoming. *Another Kirby.* Void is just a being whose fate depends on destiny. If Kirby is the same as Void, let's think about it: Kirby had the luck to be a loving, pink ball of happiness that is loved by all his friends. Void is a sad core agonizing in the depths of a destroyer of worlds, desperate to be free, but not just escape Void Termina's body, but to reincarnate. Actually it's more about how the emotions we are shown growing up have a profound affect on us.
Void Termina, Zero, Zerotwo, Dark Mind, etc were originally made of the same substance as Kirby. However they were either left alone in the cold vacuum of space, on desolate lifeless worlds, or places tainted with hatred and rage.
Kirby, Meta Knight, and Gooie however were born or at least lived on Popstar, a world full of love and happiness (For the most part.) Unless outside influences mess things up.
So if they are surrounded by negative emotions throughout their early years when forming their mind, they become envoys of destruction/darkness. If the opposite is true and they're surrounded by love and compassion, they grow to protect and cherish.
I_Am_Dragoon that or kirby may have been partially a bing of untold power that was powered by positive energy from the start. He was made not as an accident, but as a cosmic answer to the potential distruction caused by negative feelings. In other words, maybe kirby is there universes messiah.

I wonder when Hal Labs decided to include so much lore in the Kirby series, which are about a soccer ball sized pink marshmallow who fights mice over cake and races a penguin for parfaits. They could get away by only including enough plot to send Kirby on his way, yet we have seen the dark and tragic past of a business man driven mad by grief and the very supercomputer he repurposed to bring his daughter back to life, how a seemingly inanimate object sends a power hungry Halcandran down a self destructive spiral until all that there's left is a shell for it to possess, and how Kirby himself might not only be a member of the very intergalactic conquerors he had been fighting for all this time, but also an incarnation of the ungodly abomination that likely caused every single bad thing to have ever happened in the series to happen.

Kirby is a series about a horrific cosmos from the perspective of a child that doesn't comprehend what they're seeing. Much like how real children don't always understand that the thing they're viewing is the stuff of nightmares.
Honestly Metroid will always be my first true love in gaming- but yeah the closest to Kirby Dark Metroid has gotten was in Prime 3 when Dark Samus went full conqueror mode and tried basically corrupting everything in the galaxy to obey her will.
So basically Zero, but in Metroid.
Or the X Parasites who are basically John Carpenter's The Thing minus gore.
So, again, not terribly far off from Zero.

The new Bloodborne DLC looks pretty promising, if a little tangential.
One of my favorite sounds is Kirby's voice when he says "hiiii~", especially in Star Allies, as they did a great job making it sound like it came directly from Kirby. That being said, hearing it at the end of this video sent a chill down my spine. Good job. You turned something adorable and made it terrifying. I didn't know you could MAKE Kirby terrifying.

Nintendo had this planned since the beginning... everything led up to Void Soul's reveal, and I do mean EVERYTHING. The ending drawing scene showed me something. That tutorial wasn't teaching you how to draw Kirby, it was teaching you how to draw Void Termina. How do I know this? It never mentioned drawing hands or feet, the "artist" just drew it in. Sakurai had it all in mind all along.

I dont think Sakurai had 25-30 years worth of lore thought up when he first made Kirby. Also, Sakurai left Hal Laboratories because he didn't like that so many Kirby sequels were being made. So he hasn't worked on Kirby in a LONG time.

I'm sorry to ruin you guys' day, but Nintendo didn't plan this, and Sakurai ESPECIALLY didn't plan this. Sakurai only made 3 Kirby games, and those ones had the least amount of lore and horror in them. Shimomura made the dark matter trilogy, so he had a clear visoon. Then we have kumazaki, the current director. He took all the past games, melded them all together and added his incredibly deep lore to the mix flawlessly..
And this is because he is a very talented eldtrich and horror artist.
So no, it wasn't always planned, but kumazaki wrote the following story to look like it was. Now that's great writing

I think Kirby is actually the most tragic character in the game. He is a god of destruction and horror stuffed inside a little ball with a face on it. He tries so hard to maintain his happy exterior. He hangs out with friends (MK, DDD, BD) he sleeps, he plays with butterflies all to keep himself calm because if he cracks, everyone he loves will suffer. That's why he starts a genocide at something as small as loosing a slice of cake. He needs a way to vent out his god like wrath so he can protect himself and others throughout the universe.

forces. Void Termina attacks with weapons, tools and strategies from old enemies. It's probably not consequential, but a cool thing to note nontheless.
He does. Remember when Hyness tosses the mages and himself in the Jamba Heart? When void termina uses the dual swords or the bows in his flying form. He imbues them with ice/fire/elecricity. He's using the mages and Hyness' elements.

But anyway Shulk gets his universe creating powers from Alvis who gets them from his link to the Conduit, Shulk by himself is not that powerful. But yes outside of that Shulk and Giygas are probably the most powerful Nintendo characters sonce they both have the powers of nearlt omnipotents sources. Kirby is not that far behind since he is able to destroy being that are literal embodiments of abstract concepts and gods that could be part of the Lovecraftian mythos in term of powers and nature.

The ability he got in star allies is from Void Termina. Turn back the clock once our pink puffball is older, wiser, stronger, and then it’s no surprise that they would be mistaken for a god. So here’s a throw away theory: Kirby becomes what Void termina was. Perhaps they were benevolent in intention, but missing the heart responsible for forging bonds, to care, to make allies amongst the stars, he’s nothing but a devistating beast bent on the annihilation of opposition. If Dedede hadn’t stolen the food and spurred Kirby into action, making them beloved by the populous of dreamland, would he have fought the truely dangerous threats to protect his home? He didn't make up any of the stuff about the ancients and the cult if you're talking about, but if it's not, there's more evidence about the connection between Void Termina and Kirby.
Void Termina's sound effects are all slowed down Kirby's on top of the evidence he presented, and on top of this, here's a quote from the in-game description: "No telling if it's true, but according to the ancient scrolls, Void Termina may rise again in other forms depending on whether positive or negative energy is gathered. It seems this being of darkness will wander the galaxy until one day he is reborn into a new existence."
Kirby is a positive energy version of Void termina.
I mean it's a good lead up but Void Termina's name is literally a pun on Zero. As in Final Zero (or Absolute)
It's mentioned in the past that 0/Dark Matter were devoid of thought/emotion and they only learned of jealousy after coming in contact with Dedede in 2 and it spiraled out of control from there with only a small portion of it becoming Gooey as a result.
The revived void termina is 0 reset to well, zero but with evil/darkness as a base. It comes in contact with Kirby first so it tries to replicate what's near it and the whole time your fighting it the poor thing is getting twisted back and forth between the good influence and the inherit evil (Dark Matter). Heck when you watch Voids animation between it's morphing it even gets Zero's smile and Chaos Soul is white just like him- you even get the little hexagon platforms from Kirby 64's final hidden level where you hunt him down.
Everything else is good but just something to consider mentioning maybe.

I wouldn't expect Kirby of all things to have such a serious and character driven lore behind it so I'm glad to see that it does. Although, I've seen eldritch creatures as final bosses in previous games, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, but still.

Void's actual story is as sad as anything you though HAL could ever come up with.
In the last fight of Soul Melter EX, Void smiles because he is reincarnating, and since he knows what he is gonna become, he is happy.
Void Termina died sad because he would reincarnate as another Void.
Void Soul died sad because he would reincarnate as another Void.
Now, Void died happy because he knew what he was becoming. *Another Kirby.*
Void is just a being whose fate depends on destiny.
If Kirby is the same as Void, let's think about it:
Kirby had the luck to be a loving, pink ball of happiness that is loved by all his friends.
Void is a sad core agonizing in the depths of a destroyer of worlds, desperate to be free, but not just escape Void Termina's body, but to reincarnate.
It's the same with Dark Matter(s) and Zero / 02. They fight Kirby not to win, but to _die_ and come back as something else: a new Kirby, probably.
And after Void dies and we conclude SMEX, we get Kirb (Kirby's first appearance in the series). But that isn't Kirb, it's Void, *successfully reincarnated in what he wanted to.*
That's why Void is white, to resemble Kirby in Dreamland 1.
So that is it.
Void suffered for an eternity in a loop where he only came back as negativity: Dark Matter, Zero, 02, Dark Nebula, Dark Mind, Void Termina, Void Soul, Void, but now it ends.
