The painting on the left with the extra colors, really pops out and the contrast with all of the colors is beautiful. I still really need to get your swatch set. It looks amazing :) (Just ordered it from Amazon :-D)

I was shaking my head and talking to you Kristy like you were in the room with me telling me all the things I do because your right I do all of what you said. LOL I do need to be free and just want to paint and paint my own creations. Thanks so much for allowing me to paint in any color I feel like painting in!

I love this approach! I really needed to hear exactly this as I start to paint my Christmas cards this year. Hopefully I won't stress so hard this year.

I’m curious, up to about a year ago (or so) you always said that you had never swatched your watercolors. You said you hated it and did not see the need to swatch.
What made you change your mind d to go to the other extreme? I am a Lindsay Weirich fan and have water colored over 10 years and swatching is how you figure out your color mixes. You make color charts, not to memorize anything or I’d be in trouble. I swatch because transparent colors look the same in the palette -dark. Also some people can afford to purchase every color ever made, and the way to still get every color is color theory. You need to swatch to get an idea of what amazing colors you can create from as little as 3 colors.
I’m interested in what changes your mind so extremely.
    Also swatching is relaxing.

Great question. While I don’t recall saying I hated swatching, I can understand the sentiment being understood that way. Traditional swatch on tiny areas always felt somewhat oppressive to me. And so I began cresting videos which now live in a playlist here about alternative ways to swatch that I often looked to when exploring a new palette.
My childhood (k-12) art teacher never taught us traditional swatching, but taught all of the mixing techniques, color theory and watercolor paint personalities through experimenting and laying colors more freely on the page. So many ways were talk g about the same thing but with a modified approach. One example could be laying coloring down in adjacent puddles on the page vs. within pre-determined small squares or rectangles….
I then began to develop a swatching practice that married a traditional approach with my more free-spirited and I discovered my love of the hybrid :)
So in discovering a more neuro-spicy option for swatching I believe I’m bringing lore folks to a better understand of their palettes :)
Hope that all makes sense!! Really a story of creative evolution!
