Bus to Shinano and Langano 🚠 Alpine Route Ways of Transportation 🚠 Toyama Chico Railroad - 65 minutes First, we took the Toyama Chico Railroad, which is a 65 minute ride. We left Dentetsu-Toyama station and went to Tateyama station. The first part of the journey was all about leaving the city. Tateyama Cable Car - 7 minutes later, we took the Tateyama Cable Car from Tateyama Station to Bijodaira. It was a 7 minute drive. The cable car climbs 502 meters and covers a distance of 1.3 kilometers. Tateyama Highland Bus - 50 minutes The Tateyama Highland Bus was our next means of transportation on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. We took the express bus, which was a 50 minute ride from Bijodira to Modoro. The Tateyama Highland bus covers a distance of 23 kilometers and you experience an elevation change of almost 1500 meters. We went from green landscapes to fallen foliage to a snowy landscape. It's been quite a journey and yes, it's been a very bumpy road. Tateyama Tunnel Trolley Bus - 10 minutes later, we boarded the Tateyama Tunnel Trolley Bus traveling from Morodo to Daikenbu. It's a 10-minute bus ride through a narrow tunnel that crosses Mount Tateyama. This green bus is powered by electricity, so it produces no exhaust gases. We traveled 3.7 kilometers with an elevation gain of 134 meters. Tateyama Ropeway - 7 minutes The Tateyama ropeway stretches for a distance of 1,700 meters without using a single pole along the way (these are the poles you usually see when you ride a cable car, chair lift or gondola.) This is the only cable car of its kind in Japan, which makes it quite unique. The ride takes you from Daikenbo to Kurobedaira, it's a 7 minute ride and the elevation change is 488 meters. Kurobe Cable Car - 5 minutes Then it's time to ride the Kurobe Cable Car from Kurobedaira to Kurobeko. What makes this mode of transportation unique is that it is the only underground cable car in Japan, meaning it is not affected by the heavy snow in this area. It was the shortest journey so far. We traveled 0.8 km, passed an elevation change of 373 meters, and the journey only took 5 minutes. Crossing Kuroba Dam on foot - 15 minutes Kuroba Dam is an arched dam 186 meters long and the highest dam in all of Japan. It was built between 1956 and 1963. We Note that there is an option to take a boat ride on Kuruba Lake, however, we skipped it because we still had a short journey ahead of us and wanted to get to Nagano.Kanden Tunnel Electric Bus - 16 minutes This brings us to our next means of transportation: a ride on the Kanden Tunnel Electric Bus. Kurobe to Ogizawa station. It was a 16-minute ride with a 37-meter elevation gain. Local bus to Shinano - 40 minutes after we got to Shinano. There's a direct bus to Shinano, but that's not an option if you need it Collect your bags first * * * *
