Some low level of tourists are making troubles in public,like trains(carrying huge luggage into the commuter trains, or speaking loud), paying disrespect manners in shrines/temples, and abusing nature in parks, etc.. Please learn a bit of history and people’s mindset before traveling to the country which helps the locals.

When i was yong,, I stayed at Tsumago and at that time , the travelers from forein countries are not there. many young Japanese travelers gathered from busy bustle cities for the calm relief and thoughts of old ancestor's life!

The way my head perked up when you said Magome... We went there in 2016 and also took the trail to Tsumago. I was told that the hike "wasn't that bad" and it was "mostly downhill". -_- Well, it was magical anyway. Loved the hike, loved the quieter stopover between Tokyo and Kyoto.

Congratulations on the successful exploration of rural Japan! These are some of the beautiful ancient towns that are forgotten among modern Japanese people. These towns are getting somewhat revived partly thanks to the new visitors from abroad. Overtourism is indeed becoming a big problem in many countries; however, well-mannered tourists like you are fun to interact with and always welcome ;-)
Don't forget to carry bear bell or whistle with you when you go into forested area of Japan. Especially in the fall when they need to fatten up before hibernation. Also during spring ,early summer when new babies are born as mother bear bacomes very protective and aggressive. It's bigger threat than car accidents in Japan lately since hardly anyone hunt anymore.

Yes rural Japan is truly wonderful. I had a similar experience in the Wakamatsu Islands near Nagasaki. How is it that so many young Japanese move from country areas and live for most of their lives in metropolitan shoeboxes?

周りに人がいなくて、本当にスペシャルな時間でしたね。小さい頃は自然の中で虫を取ったりして遊ぶのが当たり前でした。暗い森の中で一人でいると少しの恐怖感と自然と自分が一体になってる気持ちよさが同居してその感覚が大好きでした。私はヨーロッパに20年住んでいたので、日本の自然がどれだけ特別で豊かなものだったか大きくなって身にしみて分かりました。日本の自然は神様が作ったと感じました。ちなみに私は何の信仰もありません。

Hello from Canada 🇨🇦. Your video just came up in my feed. I’m on bed rest after a bad scald burn all down my left side and I’m kind of saturated with political videos about upcoming U.S. election. As their neighbours to the North, we are very invested in having sanity prevail. Loved this video and hoping you have many more for me to explore. Merci! BTW we visited France and drove all over after my husband’s conference and never visited Eiffel Tower or other typical tourist attractions. We had a wonderful time exploring less busy areas.

Yes rural Japan is truly wonderful. I had a similar experience in the Wakamatsu Islands near Nagasaki. How is it that so many young Japanese move from country areas and live for most of their lives in metropolitan shoeboxes?
Sendai, a major city in the Tohoku region, has many Japanese tourists, but almost no foreign tourists. This is because there are no fancy structures that are of value to foreign tourists.
This is a city between the city and the countryside. Many artists and foreign students live here in the rich nature and quietness of the city. There are also many such cities in Japan.
