We have Tamara to thank for Karlach's dance!!! Is honestly my favorite thing that she can just be hanging out at a camp and just spontaneously decides to break it down.
First time I saw her doing that I was playing coop with my boyfriend and I told him "OMG DID YOU SEE KARLACH DANCING ?" And he was like "No ?" So we stayed idle until she did it again 🥰😂
Would be awesome to see a full-fledged documentary about how BG3 was made that is full of interviews like that so that people outside the industry could see how complex games are as systems and how interesting it is to make them. There's no better candidate for that role than Larianites and their creations 🙂 As a game designer, I hope that your future interviews will include "my" part of game development too. I would love to know the details of your GD processes, at least the ones that you can share with the public. Thanks, Larian!
Double Fine did a huge documentary series over the production of Psychonauts 2. It showed the good, bad and the ugly, top to bottom. I’d be ecstatic if Larian did the same thing for BG3.
They really did go above and beyond, both with this and with the combat animations. They could have just had a generic set of spell/attack animations shared by all the races and classes, and no-one would have complained. But having this variety makes such a powerful difference, infuses the world and its inhabitants with so much life and character. An orc barbarian and an elven wizard don’t just play differently, they feel different on an instinctive, visceral level. It’s the little things like this that you might not notice at first, but are the result of so much work and craft that really make this game something special.
Larian is just build different. Normally, you would publish these behind the scenes before the release, to build hype. But nah, Larian released BG3, let it sit and speak for itself, and now a year later we're getting to see how the game we love came together. Honestly can't wait for the next project, likely being div 3, and totally in creative control with Larian.
I love when she busted out the Karlach shuffle. I was instantly doing the 'Di Caprio pointing at the TV' thing. I'd recognise that dorky little dance anywhere, and it's cool to meet the person who helped bring Mama K to life and give her her charm!
The wizard tutting and somatics were the coolest to me, but definitely love how all spellcasters motions feel like they really match the flavor of the class.
I have over 3400 hours in this game and it still BLOWS MY MIND that every spell is different, every race has a different flare motion-wise, each body model has specific movements, AND there are unique characters with unique movements and spells. That alone is a complexity that I appreciate in all of my playthroughs. This game bleeds passion
The spellcasting being rooted in dance makes so much sense. The movements all flow so well in game! I love how well though-out the different movements for classes are, too ❤
as a DND player it was always hard to imagine the somatic component for spells, so it was especially fascinating to see such beautiful elegant movements in BG3.
I remember one time just watching Gale go through his spell casting moves while I was picking targets. I noticed that there was a precision and sharpness to his moves that really struck me as fitting for wizards, since they're the most formally educated magic users.
We've heard so much about the VA's that it's wonderful to see the creative process behind the action/spell movements. Hope we get to see something about the concept artists and their inspiration/thought process when creating the look of the main characters.
There are definitely some black spots in the industry, but by no means is the ENTIRE industry in "dark times". There are still plenty of good studios & good games that are coming out
Thank you for showing the unsung heroes behind this game. This company rocks and looking forward to your future games and cant wait to empty my wallet for them.
the moment i realized each class had a different animation for each spell was literally magical. thank you tamara and larian for these beautiful and detailed animations
It hadn't occurred to me that dance was behind the motions used for spell somatics! It makes sense though, and it's so cool to hear about the inspirations and challenges that went into them. These shorts really help the audience appreciate the breadth of experience and vision that went into this game. Muchas gracias, señora Arruti! You're very right -- a good team makes all the difference in the world, no matter what your craft.
The gestures when the spells were being cast were one of the features of BG3 that impressed me. I was amazed at how different each spell gestures were. I had never seen that many in a game before.
I remember one fanartist who drew Gale a lot cited that they used orchestral conductors as fluid pose reference for casting spells. I like that that was unintentionally on the same wavelength as Larian itself, to make spellcasting almost musical.
Thanks to Tamara for giving our characters and companions so much style and class when casting a spell. I love watching them move and wave their hands 🤩. Thanks also for that awesome Karlach dance move ! And finally thanks to Larian Studio for all those mini-documentaries. It's a real pleasure to watch them, to discover all the talented people who contributed to this incredible game ❤
The variety in class spell casting was so subtle yet something I took a moment to appreciate every time I noticed. My first party had three spellcasters: a sorcerer, wizard, and cleric. It was always interesting to see how the same spell could be cast differently for each, something as simple as magic missile or dimension door set apart with unique flair. Believe that it didn't go unseen, and added just another level of detail to a stunning game.
These interviews make me wanna pay extra attention to the character movements & appreciate them more! With BG3 you are overwhelmed with SO MUCH engaging content that smaller details might get overlooked, so I'm thankful Larian gives us the insight into their master piece ♡ It's really inspiring to artists of any sorts to put in that extra effort!
Those little things are truly amazing! You might not even notice them while struggling against a tripple gnoll attack (especially on a first run..sorry for disturbing someone's PTDS 🤣), but then you take your time, and you appreciate it. Devil in the details - so true (even if Raphael disagrees). Thanks, team!
The amount of thought and care that went into this game is astounding. So impressed with how they gave people the opportunity to have ownership and creativity over their part of the game and experience. Then to pull it all together into one cohesive experience is truly incredible. Thank you to everyone for the love and care you put into this fantastic game.
I always stunned every time Larian explain us with new videos how much they make an effort for this masterpiece. Every detail in game has unique performance. Thank you so much Larian, you showed everybody what seems impossible is actually not impossible.
I knew of course the MASSIVE work BG3 must have been, because the writting is so great, the animation, the story, aaaaaall the spell and action, the voice acting, the incredible amount of important NPC, the cinematic, the incredible number of choices, but seeing those vids make me think omg it's EVEN bigger than I imagine, and it's EVEN better, and aaaaaall the team seems so nice, creative and involved, I love it.
I am absolutely loving these behind the scenes looks. I appreciated all this as a whole but will admit I'm not so good at picking out the details that each of these videos covers. Like, I hadn't noticed the vast variety of animations for the spells really, not actively thought about it anyway. It's wonderful work, thank you Larian , and thank you Tamara for putting some of your soul into this game we love
I'd never had expected that someone from my country was the one who made the "Karlach shuffle" and all those animations that I've watching for the past year. Thank you Larian for uploading this video and giving credit to these people.
Thank you for these insights. Not just for us but other developers who can watch these and see where theyre failing at. You guys are amazing in every area!
spells looked pretty damn good, and hearing her explain their own logic behind the movements shows why larian is our beloved studio. IN AN RPG EVERY DETAIL MATTERS.
The spell movements are absolutely amazing, so happy to hear how it was made. The movements and voice work really bring this turn based combat system to life.
Amazing to see all the work that went into creating somatics but also the flavor for each type of magic. Thank you for sharing this with us and for your amazing work! Oh and also for Karlach's little dance, I'll forever remember noticing her doing it for the first time, instant love.
Seeing all these behind the scenes and especially mocap stuff is so cool. Everyone did an absolutely phenomenal job to bring this incredible game to us
I've been playing games since I can remember, gaming has been basically my whole life (and I mean it, I remember playing Sims 1 while sitting on my mother laps), but this is the first time I take such internal joy from observing BTS. It was usually a fun detail to see and forget when it came to different games, but here, seeing all those people who had their big part in creating BG3, to see that they were geniuely happy to be working there, to know how well Larian Studios hadled whole process and their workers and co-workers - that is something different. It's like an experience - to be able to play game I can and will call best game created since I was born, but also see what was going on during the process. Words can't express how happy I am to be able to see it now, thank you for everything Larian!
Tamara, thanks to you and your team to bringing another layer of beauty to this game. Your ingenuity and humanity showed through in the mocap, and it’s one of the reasons this is the best game ever. We look forward to your next project. Thanks!
I am proud that the choreographer of Baldurs Gate 3 is from my country. It was a huge job and the result was fantastic. Thank you very much for everything.
Αh i fell in love with the movements while playing, and I am ecstatic to see it was birthed from the work of a hard working passionate artist. What a lovely environment that let such beautiful stuff flourish. Bravo Larian, and bravo Tamara
these are so freaking good. to see the creative process up close from the people actually (literally) going through the motions of creating what we all experienced
It's Larian's inspiration and Tamara's hard work the genuinely raised the bar in the industry. I truly appreciated the character movements in BG3. They did not go unnoticed. Here I am liking and commenting on this video just to show my love and appreciation for all the things that went into Baldur's Gate 3 to make it in my opinion one of the best games of all time.
I could watch the making of BG3 for hours. I miss so much panel from hell, they were so fun so lively all seemed made by friends for friends, remembers me so much of role playing between friends ☺️😍😇❤❤❤
One of the first things I did in-game when waiting for my friend and I's first playthrough to start, was checking out all the idle animations my druid had. And I was so blown away by all the differences and movements that the basic cantrips I had available to me, that I had to see as much as I could. My friend played a warlock and seeing that they were different there was amazing, and then getting hold of Shadowheart and Gale and seeing their whole styles too! Absolutely LOVE the attention to detail the animation has in BG3.
Thanks Tamara! Thanks Larian! Love this behind-the-scenes series. @Larian: Would you consider doing a full documentation like "Raising Kratos" by Santamonica or "Grounded" by NaughtyDog?
The level of detail in all character animation, the sound effects and visual effects is one of the many awesome things that made me fall in love with this game. Mere casting of the mage armor is always a pure delight. 🙂
Seeing these video's highlights once again how much work, love and dedication went into creating everything. The amount of creative energy of all these people is inspiring. I've taken a break from BG3 at the moment but if I start it up again, I'll be certain to pay even more attention to the diversity in movements for the different classes ❤
just to show how much you take for granted in a game. i just now realized why casting a spell was so satisfiying. also understood why triple A games cost that much money and time to make❤
Thank you very much for your work on this game, Tamara! But I want to especially thank you for Karlach's idle animations! They are so full of joy and abandon, in the moment, and I love seeing them!
Thank you for this video. I never really paid too much attention to the actual movement of characters when they cast spells. Now, I can't stop observing them. 😂

We have Tamara to thank for Karlach's dance!!! Is honestly my favorite thing that she can just be hanging out at a camp and just spontaneously decides to break it down.
It's amazing that you can tell the differences between characters even in their movement repertoire.
The spells are all amazing, but the "Karlach shuffle" stole all our hearts!
Every time I go to camp, I hope to see the Karlach Shuffle 😂😂
First time I saw her doing that I was playing coop with my boyfriend and I told him "OMG DID YOU SEE KARLACH DANCING ?" And he was like "No ?" So we stayed idle until she did it again 🥰😂
sparky pointy yoinky spoinky
Yes !!

I would pay to watch this documentary. Honestly I just want to continue giving money to larian.
Only cult I would like to be in - Larianites 😁
I am wondering if having this crew that makes these videos is partly to set up a documentary for their next game from the beginning stages
Double Fine did a huge documentary series over the production of Psychonauts 2. It showed the good, bad and the ugly, top to bottom. I’d be ecstatic if Larian did the same thing for BG3.
Same, as a UI designer i'd love to see bits of that as well! ;D
Thank you Tamara, spells looked pretty damn good

I never regret clicking on one of these. I swear.
The spellcasting being rooted in dance makes so much sense. The movements all flow so well in game! I love how well though-out the different movements for classes are, too ❤
I appreciate Larian for taking the time to share these with us & showcase the incredible behind the scenes creators & magic makers! ✨️💚
i hope these videos keep getting longer, i absolutely love all the bts stuff!

Larian really understands what Gamers want.
They are really a light in the very dark times we have right now in the gaming industry.

This is amazing!! I hope you guys do a series with the graphic designers like this as well :)

I would love to see the devs react to a speedrun of this game.
These videos could all be an hour long and I’d be totally here for it
These interviews make me wanna pay extra attention to the character movements & appreciate them more!

i like to think that larian is like valve in some ways, not just "developing games" but breathing life into them
Thank you for these insights. Not just for us but other developers who can watch these and see where theyre failing at.
You guys are amazing in every area!
Thank you for your great work!
spells looked pretty damn good, and hearing her explain their own logic behind the movements shows why larian is our beloved studio. IN AN RPG EVERY DETAIL MATTERS.

Baldur's Gate 3 is not just a video game. It is ART.
I love how much creative freedom larian gives to everyone involved.
Seems like all of the performers were granted a lot of freedom, very cool
You made the spells extraordinary
I love how much thought and care they put into the spells for different classes. It’s an amazing level of detail.

i was really digging the spell animations and they intriged me, to see that there was an entire thing behind it...wow

It’s just incredible how much thought went into every little detail of this game.
These behind the scenes showcases are just fantastic. I finish every one of them with tears of joy.
these are so freaking good. to see the creative process up close from the people actually (literally) going through the motions of creating what we all experienced
The exact sort of insights I subscribed to this channel for. The amount of effort and passion behind this project is awe-inspiring!
The spellcasting choreography was honestly one of my favourite parts of the gameplay. I was mesmerised by the wizard somatic components.

Tamara, nice to meet you, thank you for your contribution to this excellent game 💖💖
I could watch the making of BG3 for hours.

I'm so glad I ran across this video--- just another layer of appreciation for a masterpiece!
Played hundreds of hours, shame on me for not noticing just how intricate these movements were.
Guess I gotta play through it again!

This was so insightful and awesome to watch. Tamara’s tutting is badass!
I've been loving these little peeks behind the scenes videos on mo-cap. Thank you so much for sharing them with us!
Thanks Tamara! Thanks Larian! Love this behind-the-scenes series.
@Larian: Would you consider doing a full documentation like "Raising Kratos" by Santamonica or "Grounded" by NaughtyDog?
These videos are all so cool. I love the behind-the-scenes footage from one of my favorite games.
And meanwhile Amazon delivers like that “there are no actors in games”. But luckily we still have lovely teams like Larian! ❤
The level of detail in all character animation, the sound effects and visual effects is one of the many awesome things that made me fall in love with this game. Mere casting of the mage armor is always a pure delight. 🙂
So cool to see behind the scenes!

Amazing job! So much attention to detail!
This is great.. Makes me emotial. So much love and passion put into the game! Thank you! ♥
Honestly I'd kill to just see an animation reel for all the spellcasts and combat animation you guys made. Its all so impressive
My favorite playthrough so far has been with my Circle of Spores Druid. The movements are so interesting and smooth. Great video here.
This is so interesting ! Love to see how various arts are integrating into others arts
Why does this video make me so emotional? It's so inspirational
just to show how much you take for granted in a game. i just now realized why casting a spell was so satisfiying. also understood why triple A games cost that much money and time to make❤
Love what Larian do I hope they lead a generation of devs to their success.
I love watching those behind the scenes info bits, please keep posting :)
Thank you very much for your work on this game, Tamara! But I want to especially thank you for Karlach's idle animations! They are so full of joy and abandon, in the moment, and I love seeing them!
So much talent and love put in this game. YOU ARE AMAZING
So many inspiring people helped to create this game! No wonder it's so special!
Thank you for this video.
I never really paid too much attention to the actual movement of characters when they cast spells. Now, I can't stop observing them. 😂
Amazing work, Tamara!! Genial lo tuyo, eh!!
almost 4 playthroughs now and although i knew that different classes had different spellcasting animations i had no idea that they were different for each school of magic too
I love these videos. thank you
Thank you, Tamara! 💜
I’m such a big fan of all these making of movies, I’m ready to watch something like LOTR making of ❤
Sooo cool! Than you Larian, you are the best!☺️😄
