You can, in fact, load a pre-made pretender in game. You have to press ctrl+L in pretender creation menu. I heard they wanted to improve UI in Dom6, i can't fathom why would they hide that option.
I actually like the Caveman with the net. They expand decently well since they can tie up the enemy en masse, and you can mass produce them even in Sloth + Turmoil scales. I think you quickly want to transition into mass freespawn Mouflon with the Tartalo, since you can make them in many provinces and each Tartalo summons 2 Mouflon per turn. It could quickly get out of control since the Mouflon have zero upkeep, kind of like Sceleria. It's true that the Shaman is pretty stinky, so you might struggle with research, but I think that when buffed with Nature/Earth/Air buffs from your combat mages (including the forest only ones), this nation could become seriously terrifying. IMO, you have to think of them fundamentally as a "buff my chaff" nation. True, it's not the kind of nation that has good anyfort mages, but when it comes to an actual war, you only need so many Big Combat Casters, and your cap mages/forest foreignrec mages fill that role nicely. Don't forget that Cavemen have above human HP and Strength as well as Fire+Cold res, and with Mouflons having upwards of 20 HP, your armies aren't very vulnerable to late game AOEs and remotes. Heck, if you can find a way to get big Fire yourself, your dudes would tank Fire Storm pretty well...at the very least, you can Barkskin them without actually gaining Fire Vulnerability, which is something.
That’s a good point, I barely considered the summons at all and mostly thought about the big cap only mages. It does make it harder to mass cheaper mages since forts are so expensive in Dom6, usually not until way later can I start to afford several of them. Probably I underestimated this nation, but it’s still very unorthodox.
Yeah, they're definitely a very weird nation. I don't know how good they will end up being, but we'll probably need a fair bit of experimentation before we have a solid grasp of how the nation should be played.
I've watched a ton of Dominions videos trying to wrap my head around the game and and this is the first one i have actually been able to follow. I still don't really understand the game, but this is the first time I've actually made progress, so thank you!
I also have a new player start guide on my channel if you want to check it out. Dominions is a pretty in depth game but it’s a great multiplayer strategy game, so long as you can tolerate 1 turn per day as is most common. If you’ve ever player the game Diplomacy it’s often similar to that but with magic.
Just saw this one, nice to see a well put together video! I'm setting up one for a viewer myself, so its good to see others at least playing around with this brutal (to figure out) nation! I've got quite a bit of experience with EA Mekone, so I'm hoping the crafting for cheap -> Thugs/SC's strat will translate, but we'll see. Just a side note on the bless you took: When the Jentil have 7+3 natural prot (from earth magic), and you grant them +5, you're having them sit at 15. If they cast personal ironskin, the spell will bring their natural prot up "+13 up to 20, or +5 if 15 or higher" so this actually puts you RIGHT at the point that this is the least efficient setup I can think about. If you DIDN'T take the hard skin, they would cast it, and go to 20 natural prot, and when you DO take it, they cast it and go to 20 natural prot. If you'd ever like to chat about these mechanics or anything similar, just shoot a message onto any of my videos, or something similar, and I'll be happy to banter back and forth/help where I can!
At the time I really had no idea how to play this nation and just wanted to give it a try, I think a lot of the takes I had were quite off the mark after playing if a bit more since then.
@@CairnEnjoyer I'll tell you what: I don't blame you one bit. At first glance, this nation's lack of late-game MR options and late game dominance is REALLY notable, and then they also start with a horrible expansion setup... its kind of brutal because you want to rush people down and win with thugs before they figure out how to magic you into oblivion, but then you also kind of stink at early game hahaha. Its tough! I'm starting to figure something out for them now, but I just wanted to drop a "nice job, keep going!" to ya, since the video was pleasant to watch!
Just as a tip. You can load a preloaded pretender into a single player game but you need to hold down the ctrl key and then press L. It is weird and isn't explained at all but it is there.
Yeah, odd decision to change this. If you're ever unsure of what you can or can't do on a particular screen, remember to hit shift + question mark key for a list of keyboard shortcuts (though I gather even this isn't 100% comprehensive).
And you can save a pretender when about to start a game by pressing ctrl + S It will tell you to give it a name but once you do you’ll be at the pretender creation screen again, and you will need to give it a name again if you want to play with it, just as you would normally

But i was rather disappointed with the thugs, as they are not priests so are hard to bless. You can forge them bottles for cheap, but idea is to have them as budget as possible so that bottle is like 20% of allocated gem budget. MP games can be brutal, and hard to learn from when you just get stomped by more experienced players that really don't have much interest in teaching you. Watch Lucid and Das and other RUclipsrs that have a lot of playlisted games out there. They tend to be fairly long winded in explaining things, which is nice because its easier to watch them make mistakes and then lament about them so that you get to learn from it to!!
