My father learned to play this game just to connect with me on video games. It was kind of annoying as a kid, playing the same 9 battle stages dozens and dozens of times over the course of 4-6 years. But now that he’s gone and I’m much older, I’m incredibly appreciative of his effort and this game holds a special place in my heart.
My dad passed a few years ago, he picked a big CRT from the junkyard and I played some pong with him. It's easy to over look at that exact moment, but our dads took the time out of there day and tried their best to make us happy. Always appreciate the small things.
i don't understand why this is the only bomberman game with this style. it's a massive step up over the original bomberman, and bomberman games after this felt like they took a step back.
I agree. Super Bomberman 2 was a childhood game of mine. Later on when I hacked a PSP, I added an SNES emulator and wanted to download Super Bomberman 2. On the rom website, it showed they made 3 games after 2 so I downloaded them. I legit thought the same thing after playing each respective version’s story mode. None of them had the approach, charm and style that 2 had 😕
That's because it's nostalgia, and the fact the last 3 never came to the US, and 4 and 5 never left Japan. If you had been able to play the last 3 in childhood, your outlook would be very different as you'd also have nostalgia for them as well. I have zero nostalgia for the entire Super series, as I only rented them, didn't own copies of them in my childhood. Instead I tried them all as an adult, and was able to actually go into them with an open mind, and liked them all. I mean SB 3 and 4 for sure let you ride animals with abilities (first introduced in Bomberman 94), and 5 had a branching path system, and was also pretty much a "best of" Bomberman game.
@@Bloodreign1 we got bomberman 3 here in the EU, though i didn't play it until many years after release. anyway, i don't think it's a problem of nostalgia goggles. bomberman 2 seems like a step up for the bomberman series... improved sprites, creative level design, an original soundtrack. i'm not seeing how the other games match it.
@@boostingpad Well, you might not agree, but it's patently obvious to see that the sprites for the characters after 2 don't have any shading on them (no highlights or shadows), which is what gives them the more curved and rendered and 3D look, so they are objectively and factually more flat compared to the first two games. The big black outlines that they started using from 3 onward also make the characters look less sophisticated and more amateur and even kiddie too imo, and I think they look more phoned in, cheaper, rushed and worse as a result. The background tiles and block similarly look way flatter and bland after 2, and imo actually just looks bad in the multiplayer mode. All round, the games got uglier after 2, which is disappointing--but at least 2 exists.

Out of the 5 SB games, I rate this one as the second to lowest. For me it's 3, 4, 5, 2, then 1. Thanks to Bomberman 94, the look of Bomberman was finally settled on, and SB3-5 carried on that look, and Saturn Bomberman did not change his look either. Before Bomberman 94, Hudson always seemed to make subtle changes to White Bomber's look.

@@M4th3u54ndr4d3 I perfer 2 because the sprite art is just superior all round, on both the characters and stages.
