    Caring for this orchid by The Med, in leca and self watering. Hot summers, cool(ish) winters. In this video, I share my experience of 2+ years growing this orchid in my climate, and getting it to bloom again, after it struggled to transition. There are other methods and set ups to make this orchid happy and vigorous, the channels, collaborating with the #CareCollab of this orchid, are linked below. If you see this video before the other channels have published their video, the links will lead you directly to their channel home page. Once I see the videos corresponding to the care of this orchid, I will update the links to lead directly to the care videos! Should you also happen to have this orchid, and you also make videos on RUclips, perhaps you would like to contact either one of us and join in with the continued sporadic updates. The more the merrier!! Thank you!

      Hi Danni!! 🥰💐 it took a while to get this one to flow.... I had a lot of practice while not doing videos 😉 do you and I have an orchid in common? Do you have the Den Roy Tokunaga? In the very early days of my channel, I dedicated the Roy Tokunaga blooms to you and could that be because you have one but it did not bloom at the time? We need to find the same orchid so that we can join up and do a care video together 🙏🏼 if that is something you would like to do! Nothing changes if it isn't! No offence, love you just as much! 🥰🌸

    Murasaki komachi is a female name. Legendary beauty. And Michael is correct. It means “purple beauty” I believe back in AC 600s. Purple is loyal color and this lady went to that level and “crowned” that name.

    Hello again 💞 hm ..... maybe my zygopetalum youngster is a zygonisia ? Please - is there a way I can be sure ? Both need much water and humidity - right ? Thank you Nin Ja 💃💖🌸🦜🐕🐕

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  4 месяца назад +2

      Hi Mona 😍💐 mmhhhh, the only way to confirm either way, is to see if the blooms here match what you have. Zygopetalums have much more vibrant colors, for the most part, but there is one that is a little more subdued with more hues of green in the petals and sepals. Here is a Zygo with more subdued colors and more of a washed out green in the petals and sepals shorturl.at/WQmuE maybe you have on that is similar to the one I have linked? They both have the same care requirements, yes! Even their roots are very similar. Zygonisia involves the genera Zygopetalum, Miltonia, and Neogardneria and Zygopetalum are in fact a genus with species but many are hybrids with Zygopetalum parents only and not another genus. I hope that you are enjoying your blooms, lovely lady! Thank you so much for watching this video 🫶🏼 have yourself a beautiful rest of your day ❤️🌸

    My very rare zygonisupermarktis hoferachi is doing great (knock on wood). Bought it 2 years ago and it re-flowerd last spring. It also has a light fragrance. I have no idea in which zone I'm living. It's definitely not mediterreanen and also not californian. I also don't remember whats in the pot although I dropped it once. Whenever a new growth appears I put some moss under it. I water it when the pot is leicht. And Hofer is Aldi in Austria. Have a nice week.

      @NinjaOrchids  3 года назад +1

      Hoferachi!! 😅😂😂 you are making me laugh, thank you so much!! Hi Anna!! So, this could be a synonym aldii ?? 🤣🤣 because of my set up, I have had my share of work to bring the orchid to this point! They really do not care what they grow in, as long as the media stays 'clean' and there is plenty of moisture around the roots, so... your method sounds ideal! 👍🏼 Thank you for watching and the laugh!! I love it!! 🌸

    Soo, the registered name is actually Murasakikomachi (all one word) but it seems every nursery splits the name. Maybe Yoshi can correct me if I'm wrong, it means Purple Beauty. And watching this, I'm reminded I really need to do something with mine. It was an experiment to see if it would grow sort of mounted, which it has, but it can't support itself. I need to yank it off and pot it up.
    (I think the buds should open by Monday)

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 года назад +1

      Don Miguel 🥰🤗💐the nurseries... they have me so confused, as you well know! I was totally blinded by some of their labelling and just trusted them 99% of the time. I mean, I just grow orchids, who am I to judge that their labelling can be off 🤷🏼‍♀️ So, yeah... back in the day, I was making my own labels like a woman possessed and copied what it said from the nursery without looking into each orchid to double check. It is easier to remember some of the names when they are split up, that is the only positive I can take out of this specific circumstance! 😅 I feel dumb for not having researched the translation properly, and all that good stuff... I went with what I knew, dry, and didn't go too much in depth. I do not want my care videos to sound as if I have read all about the orchid in question because I do not want to dilute how I care for mine, and mix in what should be done! I really would like to drive home, the this is how I do it in my climate, right / wrong... and then get feedback, or see the orchid do well, regardless of what other research is out there. The minute I delve too much into researching care, I begin to dilute my message. Anyway, its early days, and I hope that things get better as this concept evolves. I mean, I have approx 100 orchids that I read exactly the same, that would be 100 different care videos on specific orchids, which pretty much repeat the same message, but, the person searching for one of those 100 orchids and lands on my video, won't know that there are 99 other videos out there with pretty much the same intel. But, don't worry, I won't flood my channel immediately with 100 same care videos... in drips and drabs 😅 I am reading between your lines, that you will gently remove the orchid from the mount, prising every root off with utmost care and not damage a single one 😉 I could not make this orchid survive on a mount, so.... good going on that front! Buds by Monday? Ok! 👍🏼 I will let you know. Thank you for taking the time to watch ... chuffed to have brought it back into bloom, tbh! And my NoID Zygo is in spike, after it went downhill 2 years ago 🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🤪 Have a wonderful Sunday, my friend!! ❤️🌸

      @@NinjaOrchids you got the most important care tip in the video, don’t mess with the roots or they die, that’s what’s important. The only way to get it off the mount will be to yank, captain impatient won’t even bother trying to tease the roots that are attached off because they’ll die anyway.
      Anxiously awaiting seeing both Zygos in a bloom video.

      Hi LienLien!! 🤗💐 thank you so much for taking the time to watch this video and for leaving me a comment! I really appreciate it! Flush, flush, flush... especially during the first 2 months. 2x / week and keep the reservoir full enough, which is not difficult when flushing regularily. Be careful when cleaning the root ball as you work with removing the old media,... I realized that these guys have 'tickly feet' and the slower the cleaning process, the more diligent, the better for the existing roots. Flushing is important for the O2 exchange in the pot to help the roots adapt to the new media... because they get fresh water often, they won't 'know' that much has changed around them. Lots of light, not necessarily full direct sun, but they need a LOT of light, and don't worry if the leaves fall off on the back bulbs, it can happen in some environments, it doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the orchid, it just makes it look funny 😬 My buds STILL have not opened! 🙄😅 'watch this space' 🤣 have a wonderful day / evening! 🌸

    Great video re temps,especially.i am in northern USA.....summer now.have one zygo green Gecko..only one leaf left,as it was sent to me with fungus(which I treated with Physan,successfully). Wondering one leaf left will keep it alive;it has 4 bulbs.three are already bloomed in past.

      @NinjaOrchids  3 года назад +1

      Joseph, hi! 🤗💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, and if you have been here before, then I profoundly apologize for not having recognized you! But, either way, it is so kind of you to be here and welcome! One leaf will keep it alive, and even if that leaf were to drop, it will bounce back. It will be set back, and then next new growth may be a lot smaller as it has to deal with starting a new root system (if the old roots fail, which is a possibility seeing as Zygo roots are uber sensitive to any form of disruption!) but, it will pull through. One small new growth will be what comes next but after that, the next growth will for sure, be the original size AND bloom. They are extremely resilient, but their roots.... don't even look at them, or else they will fail. The gentlest of care when it comes to handling the roots. The top is not the problem with Zygos... its the bottom that can take them out. Still, it will come back. My growths never hold on to more than one or 2 bulbs with leaves, but still, it blooms and is absolutely fine. I hope that this helps ..here is a link to my Zygo hybrid Trozy Blue ruclips.net/video/mtUOgMj2hbQ/видео.html with a little more info and more recent. Just a thought, in case you are interested and have time 👍🏼 again, welcome, thank you for being here and for leaving me a comment! 🌸

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 года назад +1

      Hi there! 🤗💐 so very happy to see that this orchid will bloom! I was surprised to see 2 spikes 🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️ I think that air flow has a lot to do with the spotting on the leaves. When this orchid was being babied through the summer months, it was inside, to protect it from the heat. Despite the doors always being open, there isn't the same airflow as it would have outside. I have lost all the leaves of the previous years' growth because the spotting came and took the leaves out slowly. Now I have to think about, if it can handle the very hot summer temps, or if I will just accept what it does in my climate, and continue to grow it indoors to protect the whole plant. Time will tell, but it is the first time that the previous growth has held on to the leaves....and my temperatures have not been kind this January.... amazing how the structure of the leaves appear flimsy but how well they can handle wind! 👍🏼 Thank you very much for taking the time to watch. Have a wonderful day 🌸

      FFF 🤸🏼‍♀️🙌🏼🥰💐 With the bare back bulbs, it looks a bit odd in that pot, but it still has the leaves from the previous growth.... starting to make sense on the visual front 😅 2 spikes!! I know, right? When I did my 132 spike video, I only saw one and a couple of days later, the second one and then the pressure was on to make sure that they develop! Sometimes, I just prefer new growths... they are so much easier 🤪 I was thinking of bringing the orchid in to make her bloom faster, so that by the time the video was released, I had blooms, but then.... the risk of them blasting was too great. They are taking forever to mature! You know, yesterday went by so fast, I thought it was Saturday this morning! 🙄 What a day! King is quiet now, but the minute I get up from the computer... he is full on! I have to continue with leash training... he needs walks, but has not had all the injections yet, so I cannot take him out for walks just yet. I read up about Dachshunds again, after what you told me in a comment, to refresh my memory of this breed. Despite growing up with them, that was a long time ago! 😅 ... I want Thierry back! 🥲 I miss him sooooo much, I think that you can imagine how much! Anyway...change the subject! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch, yet another video! Have yourself a wonderful SUNday.... we don't have any here... probably not until next week. And it is cold! Have you seen the pictures from Madrid?? Alpine ski resort comes to mind! They have been dog sledding in the streets and snowboarding behind cars. Incredible scenes! Beautiful fluffy snow, and soooo much!! They were inundated! Not surprised that it is cold here... they are expecting -11ºC next week! 🥶 all the nasty emissions stopped in 2020 ... and nature is back, at least for a little time. 🥰🌸
