I didn't know there was a debate on pronouncing Fresnel. I'm a cinematographer that is new to 3d. As I am a literal enrolled student right now. You made my school's curriculum, congrats! Cinematographers know Fresnel was named after a man, Augustin-Jean Fresnel who invented the lighthouse lens; the Fresnel Lens. Fresnel invented a lens that was compact and could focus light to narrow widths and long throws. Which was perfect for lighthouses but is also common on film lighting fixtures for focusing the angle and sharpness of a light-beam that is thrown from the light head. This video made me hit the wiki and this definition of the lens type he invented, the catadioptric lense, sounds like iOR. "The catadioptric (combining refraction and reflection)". The wiki also has your correct pronunciations. "A Fresnel lens (/ˈfreɪnɛl, -nəl/ FRAY-nel, -nəl; /ˈfrɛnɛl, -əl/ FREN-el, -əl; or /freɪˈnɛl/ fray-NEL[1])". Definitely a silent S. Thanks for making good tutorials by the way. This was very helpful.
controlling the reflections that come from the side is something cinematographers do with a Circular Polarizer if you want to grab a camera and see the interaction with real light. They have cheap ones that screw onto the front of other lenses.
I just found your channel, and immediately subbed! I love high quality tutorials, unfortunately there aren't so many, so I'm really happy I found you! :D One thing I noticed, or bothered me, was the music in the background. Classical music has way to much details, so it was hard for me to focus on your words. Stay awesome!
Hi Illesbbs, thank you for subscribing! I truly appreciate the support. I agree, I thought the classic music was distracting, so my future tutorials have no music (unless it's necessary) :) Thank you for your comment and feedback!
@Academic Phoenix Plus 3:04 Is there a particular reason for closing the Arnold Render View and bringing it up again as opposed to just pressing the Stop button twice? I'm asking because as a new Maya user, I get the feeling things are a bit weird sometimes and sometimes doing things in particular ways become the unspoken rules with this program.
fresnel is pronounced "fruh-nel" Wacom is pronounced "wah come" and is derived from the Japanese symbol for harmony ("wah") and the first syllable of computer ("come"). The tag line of the company is, "Toward the harmonious development between man and technology."
Love your name, Nimbus Cat, and thank you! I hope it was helpful. :) By the way, if you want to get pre-released content, updates on workshops, free models, and more, please sign up for my newsletter. www.academicphoenixplus.com/
The Fresnel effect was first documented by the French physicist Augustin-Jean Fresnel (1788-1827). Fresnel studied the behavior of light and the way it is transmitted and propagated by different objects.
Hi, I know this is off topic but, is there any way to have a different shader for xgen in the viewport (very basic/single node) while having a very advanced one for rendering (lots of nodes)? While both remain connected to the same hair? As the advanced one doesn't show very well in the viewport. Well, I'm interested for any surface type really, but same idea.
Sorry you are having issues. Make sure to set your project before opening up the scene. Here is a tutorial on it. You might want to start at 3:00 ruclips.net/video/3iQjk1-F0so/видео.html Hope this helps!
Hello ma'am! I had made Led screen in Maya. N I had made my text animation.. I would like to run text animation in led as video textures but it doesn't show in Arnold render... What should I do??
Thanks for this awesome tutorial.. I am looking for a way to create a model which will have some metallic part and some glass part. I'm able to render it in Maya(all thanks to you) but now i want to export it into unity and here the problem arises as the metallic and glass look disappear when i export it to unity . Can you please make a tutorial on creating assets for Unity Game engine in maya...Highly requested content

hi , good tut , and thanks for your time ... did the aistandersurface shader shipped with maya 2017 ?? , cuz i cant find it ,, just stander shader is there
This is a common issue that gets resolved in Maya 2018. To have the most updated Arnold, you have to go to www.solidangle.com , sign up, and download the most current Arnold renderer. Once you do that, everything will match what I have. I hope this helps!
All what I needed to know was , is there any thing i could do to make it work ! And your replay is very clear and very appropriated , now i can go and download the new maya2018 .. thanks 🙏
Specularity color is more about the color of the highlight, versus how the highlight reacts to the light on the object's surface. For example, if you want to create shiny gold, you can change the speculairty color to yellow, but keep the weight strong. If you want to create a dull gold, you can keep the highlight yellow, but reduce the weight. I hope that makes sense!
Sure! It's a great computer, but sometimes I want an upgrade (never fast enough) :) Intel Core i7 6700K 4.0GHz, 16GB DDR4, 500GB SSD, 2TB Storage, GeForce GTX 1060 6GB :)
Hi Juan, Thank you for your response. I have some earlier Mental Ray one, but very little about lighting. I need to look into that one. :) I'll add it to my list of future tutorials. Hi FrakU2, thank you for the question! Do you see an Arnold menu at the top right? Select the Arnold RenderView and it should pop up. There's also a small icon of a 'movie clapper', that's also a render window but it isn't live feedback like Arnold RenderView. I hope that helps!
Do you have a textures already, Pro Player? If you do, go to the roughness weight (if it's black/white image) and plug it in. So click on the roughness output (looks like a little checker), go to file, then select your texture. here is a tutorial that guides you through the whole process. I hope it helps! ruclips.net/video/34_-amtDdc4/видео.html
Im trying to load a psd file into the colour texture input and on rendering, arnold always shows it as pitch black. Does anyone here know why that happens? I'm able to see it correctly in the viewport but on rendering it doesnt show anything. I need to use a psd currently because of the specific workflow I'm using. Any help would be deeply appreciated
Hi Vertigo, thank you for your comment. Is the whole render dark, or just the models with the PSDs are dark. If it's the whole render, then add some lights (create Lights, directional light). Arnold needs lights to render, otherwise it doesn't work. If it's the PSD, make sure the alpha channel is deleted. Let me know if that helped!
