As you'll probably know, Roland have the VAD v-drums acoustic design electronic drums.
Now, Zeitgeist has the - you guessed it - CAD ACOUSTIC DESIGN e-CYMBALS 🤯🤯🤯 which bring authentic "metal" playing feel to your electronic drumkit (not only suited for metal drumming though).
The ZG CAD cymbals are available in 4 different finishes (Gold / Silver / Antique / Black), and there's plenty of different sizes / models to choose from. Needless to say, all Zeitgeist e-cymbals are 100% Roland / ATV / EFNOTE / Pearl Mimic Pro compatible.
So we've hooked up some CAD cymbals to a Roland TD-27 sound module, added the acoustic drumkit sized ZEITGEIST AD3 electronic drums, and eventually triggered some epic drum sounds from Toontrack's EZdrummer 3. Et voila: instant electronic acoustic feel epicness!
    The kit setup in detail:
    ◾ 20" Bass drum
    ◾ 13" dual zone snare
    ◾ 10", 12" dual zone Toms
◾ 13" dual zone floor toms
    Available Zeitgeist CAD cymbals:
    ◾ 18" / 20" 3-zone Rides
    ◾ 14" / 16" / 18" dual zone Crashes
    ◾ 16" / 18" dual zone Chinas
    ◾ 10" / 12" single zone Splashes
    ◾ 14" dual zone Hi-Hats

Hi Ralf, how does the triggering and the feel compare to Roland cymbals?

    • @drumtecTV
      @drumtecTV  Год назад +2

Triggering works well with the appropriate trigger settings applied, I also liked the feel especially of the Antique Finish, as these have a kind of a "coating" on top, making them just a tiny little bit more silent than the others and also giving a different playing feel that I personally liked even better than the others.

    • @drumtecTV
      @drumtecTV  Год назад +4

@@Ed-iw7ls Hey Ed, can't confirm this really. If you use the appropriate trigger settings, all zones work nicely without any false or double triggering (otherwise drum-tec would not be offering them actually).
I was playing some jazz & funky stuff for the demos recently (including this one actually) without any problems:
      ruclips.net/video/vJJ62YPxD-w/видео.html
Only question is the noise level, which might be too high for home drummers that need as silent as possible. Noise level comparison is coming up next week actually. Kind regards!

My drummer is using those cymbals with the 2 box Drumit 5 Mk2. Pretty good stuff, but the Open/Close phase of the hihat is very problematic until now. Do you have any setup tipps? And, btw, the TRS-mounts in the trigger-box are breaking easily. Had to re-solder them after a few weeks of use. And the ride has some problems with the separation of the bell/bow sound. All in all, a lot of bang for the buck. Even with the weak points it's still a bargain.

    Couple of questions:
    1) How long would you expect one of these cymbals to last? I bought something similar from a different company and they didn't even last two weeks, I've contacted them and they have yet to respond 🙂
(Edit: said company are notorious for being silent to their customers)
    2) I'm a bit concerned about these chipping away at drumsticks. Would it be possible to add a rubber hoop to it without affecting the triggering?

Of you're hitting sticks against the raw edge of a cymbal, you will chip away at sticks like you would on acoustic cymbals, no doubt. My best advice, get a couple of a pairs of Blackwood Carbon fibre sticks. They've lasted me years on acoustic and electric drums. They're kinda hard to get hold of. I have had to get my last bunch of pairs from a shop in Germany.
They don't feel exactly like wood sticks but I think they're really close and the advantage of them lasting so long, really is worth the slight adjustment.
Or you could just use wood sticks, but be prepared to go through them at the same rate as acoustic cymbals would with these ecymbals. Though not having metal rims on the snare will be an improvement on a standard acoustic kit with cymbals.
You could put a rubber rim on the edge of these cymbals though. Might have to only do the top as to not affect the switch sensor underneath, so some sorta light adhesive might be needed. But I'd say it can be done!
Ps. I am sure I know which company you're talking about with quick failure rate, I has the same experience a few years ago.

@@steevidrums Hello, and apologies for my late reply.
Thanks for the advice, I'll look into said sticks.
To make sure we're on the same page… umm, I was talking about some small UK-based company (I won't mention their name but I'm sure they know who they are). You dealt with them too, right?
A minus of living in Australia, man. Absurd shipping costs. Took a huge risk purchasing from said company

@@drumnotatsujin81yeah I’m sure we’re on the same page. Aw man that sucks. I was chatting to a guy out in Oz a few years ago about stuff. I gave him my Stealthdrums cymbal trigger that I bought off eBay but never used. He just paid shipping. I think he got it working, I’ve not spoken to him a while. Shame Stealthdrums finished when Jman passed. He was a force!
Have you considered GoEdrum? They’re based in Taiwan I think? Very reasonably priced too.

Insanely good playing as always! I am in the market for an A2E and I can’t decide between metal or rubber. I have heard of people getting wrist pain from hitting rubber cymbals, do these feel softer to hit and more like acoustic? I hit the drums pretty hard, not concerned with noise, more about the feeling and the possibility of wrist pain

Yes, these are obviously louder than rubber cymbals (noise level comparison coming up next week). Yet, they offer full sound & midi flexibility in combination with acoustic playing feel & looks, which might be an appealing option for some e-drummers despite the higher noise level.
