@@avalosoundI’m generally curious.. I’ve played drums like this since I was 5 I am 34 now with no issues and never any pain while playing.. What makes it look painful? I’m actually curious what you mean
This infinite upgrade path for electronic drums isn't sustainable. Who wants to drop 9K for a kit that will be obsolete in 3-4 years if not sooner? Then you're going to buy another 9K kit? Don't get me wrong, I have a Roland electronic kit for recording (with SD) and practicing but I'm absolutely NOT shelling out 9K when I could spend that same money on a DW acoustic (or similar) that doesn't need 'upgrades.' This is just insane.
With Roland, older Roland pads/sets always stay compatible when a module is renewed or re-invented. TD-50 came out in Sept 2016, that’s 8 years ago…and was/still is software wise upgradable to the X version. So no full cost ever.
obsolete? i know people still using 15 year old roland kits with ez drummer 3 lmfao its about build quality with roland and re sale ability 5 year old used roland kits still sell close to store price for a reason
It's easy to make a v drum sound by banging and rocking. But the quality must be seen with other genres with light strokes, with nuances, with different dynamics. Have we arrived at the correct sound of the brushes? How's it going with pop? With this video, beautiful, but too harsh, i don't understand the profound quality of the drums, and the "new" sounds, which have always been Roland's limits
@@michaelschack Kind of, I’ve had a TD-50, TD-27 and TD-12 before that. Now I mostly play a Yamaha DTX-Pro X. In my experience Roland’s playability is really good but the sounds are lacking behind VST’s like SD3 or EZdrummer.
Check out the DWe. But cables ALWAYS work in a professional situation, especially in packed clubs and venues where there’s lots of wireless devices and buzzzzzzzzz frequencies 😉
Man, those things sound HUGE! Now, If I can only talk Elon Musk into adopting me, I'll buy a set! BTW, did I understand you to say "samples"? And not synthetic sounds?
Correct, but there’s a even specific drumsynth built in which you can layer randomly with all internal and external sounds. As if you own your own top notch drum recording studio 🥳
@ I don't buy the arguement of the sweaty hands. It's cheaper to produce. As simple as that. But for a high end product as this one it should knobs AND touch. So everytime you should set up a computer to set up sounds? Touch is more convenient. The kits are used in studio, practising AND Live. If i set up sounds i dont have very sweaty hands. There would have been a chance to do both, touch and knobs🤷🏻♂️ on headrush pedalboards it works perfect.
Touchscreens are cost-cutting measure at best. It gave flexibility to the UI designer of course, but think about for a second.... if the UX is well thought out would you really need that flexibility ?? And of course it's error prone and will be quite erratic performing live. Instead of having touchscreens, just let the user connect to it with a tablet would be better choice. Stil that can't beat real buttons and sliders.
I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the dynamics of these built in sounds, still missing the soul you get from Superior Drummer 3, just get the TD-50x and run those samples through a USB into the the TD-50x module
Go check these out first, bring your own headphones and laptop, compare to your favorite vst, and then…be amazed on how incredibly more dynamic the V-71 makes you feel while playing. It will really surprise you. I know not everyone is a hard hitter like me…
You’ll find they have far more dynamics than any VST. VSTs use MIDI v1 still which is 7bit and only 0-127 and 16 layers of dynamics only whereas the processing engine in V-Drums has 16000 steps of resolution along with positional, interval and left and right hand sensing. There’s even hi-res midi built in for when software catches up one day. Try a kit to experience it. Soundworks has 18 dynamic layers x 8 variation and 5 mics per instrument so fantastic to use too and feels realtime with the V71 driver. It’s very impressive.
Great drummer, great kit but over priced for us normal folk. Inc a third crash, splash and China would of been a nice touch like efnotes pro 507 complete kit.
As I know Chad personally, he didn't ever tell me that to my face. We actually appreciate each other's style a lot:) It's not "wasted" motion, it's motivated personal enjoyment. To each his own
Someone will knock it off cheaper. They have to because the masses of drummers who crave this cant afford it especially in this economy. Its funny when electronic drums started the thing was they looked different along with the tech. But end of the day an acoustic kit is a work of art so its cool to mimick. Had to be.
It will be difficult for any other brand to beat this quality, hardware included. That's why you'll find Roland on the main stages (look at how many SPD-SX sampling pads you see there), V-Drums included. Many have been able to afford - the hardware quality also plays a big role in their choices - and make money as a drummer with those. Look at how many musicians are using a Mac...despite the price. So no, none other brand will knock this kind of quality "cheaper", as cheaper stands for less endurance and quality. These instruments are suited to be hit hard and loud.
You can have any hh sound you like. There are many brands built in and in the packs and you can change mic position, cymbal thickness, attack and release, eq, compression etc etc and if still not happy record your own and layer it up in Soundworks that comes with it. You can record 18 layers with 8 unique hits per layer using 5 mics per instrument so you can recreate any sound exactly as you like it.
echt geen hond kan iets met deze review/reclame het zegt helemaal niks over dynamiek (als hij al weet wat het is), het zegt niks over de sound, want het is 1 grote storm van sounds. Leuke show en dat is het.
I use the TD50x for external events drumming, and I use Superior Drummer 3 and DW SoundWorks in my home studio when recording drum covers in midi format to my DAW. The ability for people now to have the amazing SoundFont kits and play them live on stage without the need for a dedicated laptop is simple amazing for them! that and the many other improvements around the module and the kits.
You don’t need it actually. Soundworks comes with it and you can build your own sample library in Soundworks if you want because it’s open source. Sample your fave percussion and build your own library. 18 layers of dynamics x 8 x 5 mics
@@DAnthony14 I agree, when you consider all the different instrument sounds, overhead sounds/mics, room sounds, it's basically a completely drum recording package. Even if you went with an acoustic kit, you'd still spend a pretty penny once you factor in cymbals, mics, stands, and of course a nice sounding room to record in. If you're not going to record with it I don’t see the point, but these kits are very capable creation tools when you put the time in to learn the module fully.
@@Scolecite why would I want to pay for this? I was hoping they're going to release something that's on par with the Mimic Pro, or at least the sounds of the Strata Prime. Too bad, it's a missed opportunity imo

You can always buy an acoustic DW 50th Anniversary Edge Snare Limited Edition for $ 4800 😀
With Roland, older Roland pads/sets always stay compatible when a module is renewed or re-invented. TD-50 came out in Sept 2016, that’s 8 years ago…and was/still is software wise upgradable to the X version. So no full cost ever.
I’d rather have me some Sonor or Noble & Cooley over DW anyday…
obsolete? i know people still using 15 year old roland kits with ez drummer 3 lmfao its about build quality with roland and re sale ability 5 year old used roland kits still sell close to store price for a reason
If you really like the kit and how it sounds and operates, you don’t need to buy a new model!
Gooooooooood morning
Would be nice to hear the drums.
Put the volume up! 😉
I only bout a TD50x module a while ago :( can't afford another 2.5k :(
Thanks for getting a TD50X, it will stand the test of time as it’s still a powerful and relevant module.
@@michaelschackthink my td-9 is still powerful?
😂
I still like it.
@@michaelschack yes, but the new one is so nice :)
Come and join one of my demos. And check out the Take Five version again in this clip - soft to loud dynamics really happening!
Somehow I feel like some of the previous generation owners are getting mad as this is a massive upgrade.
Maybe but the new releases drive the price down on older technology that is still amazing
loved this kit til I saw the price xD
For 1/3 the price of this you could buy a nice Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute kit that'll sound and feel 100% better.
But…is that you saying this from knowledge? Did you compare already and have one somewhere around you? 😉
You could also buy a banana for $1 at the grocery store, but it's not the same thing.
Perhaps the hardware, but certainly not the sound module... Still sounds like my TD-7K from 1992...
Kun je voor een korting zorgen Michael? TIA. 😇
Ah nee, sorry Ludo 👊
@@michaelschack GREAT drumming Michael! De dag dat de V71 in België leverbaar is bestel ik (ter vervanging TD27) met mijn VAD 507. Can't wait.
Ya es hora de dejar los cables, un módulo inalámbrico
Check out the DWe.
But cables ALWAYS work in a professional situation, especially in packed clubs and venues where there’s lots of wireless devices and buzzzzzzzzz frequencies 😉
Check out the DWe. But cables ALWAYS work! No buzzzzzzz frequencies 😉
This dude says the same thing about every Roland release since 1947.
@@michaelschack BTW, sick drumming, dude!
Touchdisplay?
Absolutely not - I'm actually also explaining why. And the market is finally understanding why not:)
Shacks Back
Man, I'd trade my hair for your playing skills... deal?
Naaahhh, I would be sweating even more. 😅 But I would love to have a drink with you talking chop. Thanks for the fun comment!
@@michaelschack Thanks to you for sharing your videos, your work is excelent
Why do you need such a big kick drum and such big toms when it is a virtual drum set?
Check out the other 7-series models - TD716 & TD713
I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the dynamics of these built in sounds, still missing the soul you get from Superior Drummer 3, just get the TD-50x and run those samples through a USB into the the TD-50x module
Go check these out first, bring your own headphones and laptop, compare to your favorite vst, and then…be amazed on how incredibly more dynamic the V-71 makes you feel while playing. It will really surprise you. I know not everyone is a hard hitter like me…
you still need a computer and interface. I think this module sounds fantastic.
@@christopherpederson1021 🙏👊
You’ll find they have far more dynamics than any VST. VSTs use MIDI v1 still which is 7bit and only 0-127 and 16 layers of dynamics only whereas the processing engine in V-Drums has 16000 steps of resolution along with positional, interval and left and right hand sensing. There’s even hi-res midi built in for when software catches up one day. Try a kit to experience it. Soundworks has 18 dynamic layers x 8 variation and 5 mics per instrument so fantastic to use too and feels realtime with the V71 driver. It’s very impressive.
Yeah I've changed my mind, from what I said the other day, from what I saw and heard at the UK drum show
Great drummer, great kit but over priced for us normal folk. Inc a third crash, splash and China would of been a nice touch like efnotes pro 507 complete kit.
Check out the other 7-series models.
ANIMAL!
Thanks - that's a compliment!
As my teacher Chad Wackerman used to say " wasted motion". Enough said
As I know Chad personally, he didn't ever tell me that to my face. We actually appreciate each other's style a lot:) It's not "wasted" motion, it's motivated personal enjoyment. To each his own
As someone who switch to e drums for the convienace I am thinking rather than buy this buy a Sonor.
😮
The only thing I am disliking about the sound is how thin the Hihat sounds
You can have any hh sound you like. There are many brands built in and in the packs and you can change mic position, cymbal thickness, attack and release, eq, compression etc etc and if still not happy record your own and layer it up in Soundworks that comes with it. You can record 18 layers with 8 unique hits per layer using 5 mics per instrument so you can recreate any sound exactly as you like it.
I’m having heart palpitations
Your neighbours will still think your an utter..
Stop worrying about people that do not matter and would only want to discourage your hobby. Of course their dog can bark its head off all day long.
🤣
Is he having a stroke?
No. I’m just excited
They're electronic, you don't have to hit them that hard
They're dynamic, sure I can!
@michaelschack being full shells what do they sound like when they are not turned on?
Somebody needs LESS coffee.
That’s not coffee…😂
I'm actually on Red Bull:)
And few afford 😢
The shell look like a $300.00 kits shells
No they don’t… maybe clean your computer or phone screen? 😅
You still need SUPERIOR DRUMMER 3 aggg Roland …
9k for this ? and still sounds crap...
As usual about 6000.00 overpriced
Usually I’d say overpriced but this one seems like it’s actually worth the money ! Roland did their big one here. I’ll give credit where it’s due
@@DAnthony14👊💯
Like always tons of bullshit
How so? Why is it then you can see V-Drums used on live stages, even big pop artist arena shows?
Same atrocious sounds with machine gunning. Incredible that they cannot overdo themselves
I found the person that can't afford this!
@@Scolecite why would I want to pay for this?
I was hoping they're going to release something that's on par with the Mimic Pro, or at least the sounds of the Strata Prime. Too bad, it's a missed opportunity imo
@@galgogergo Nothing compares to the Roland digital snare, hi-hat and ride. I use SD3 sounds anyways.
What part of this demo has you underwhelmed?
They are not atrocious they sound much better but the machine gunning is still there.
Go check it out, bring your own sticks and headphones, come to a demo clinic. I’ll prove you’re actually wrong, except for the fact that my drumming technique is not always very dynamic 😉
Still isnt worth $9k! And ride sounds like crap. Roland needs to stop being so greedy!
If that Ride really would sound like crap, more people would comment on it in such a constructive way. 😉
The ride has no sound…you choose, build whatever you want it to sound like or sample your own.
@@michaelschack yea, it could be just sound on my end.
