      rudolf peter udo White ensign is Navy flag when at sea. It is always flown from the stern.

      I will correct myself. The white ensign is flown at the stern when alongside or at anchor. It is also flown at the stern for ceremonial purposes,even when the vessel is moving. But normally when underway it will be flown from the mast or yardarm. That was the drill when I was in pusses 1967 - 1974.

      @@rudolfpeterudo3100 If you remember, the normal flag is flown when along side. As soon as the ship slips its moorings the standard flag is lowered and the Navy one raised. Yes at sea it would be flown from the mast normally.

      @@bossdog1480 As I remember when alongside the ensign is flown at the stern the Australian flag at the bow. The rest as you mentioned above.
