- It is vitally important to do your own pre dyne checklist before even taking your car to the shop to be tuned. For those who are new to getting your car tuned you can be turned away for many mechanical reasons when it comes to the car. It ultimately wastes your time, the tuners and the shops so doing your part will ensure that everything runs jus that much smoother. It is your responsibility as the owner of the car to ensure that these things are as mechanically sound as you can possibly get them. It is understandable that some things will go wrong or that there is an issue that you may not know about but do your best to try and mitigate those issues prior to taking your car to the shop. My tuner was so cool, he found a misfire due to a broken spark plug and stopped the session and replaced it for free and continued with the tune!

im glad i found a tuner who does mod work, i'm not mechanically inclined, except oil change, radiator flush etc. so i wont be doing any mod installs myself except a few exterior mods.

nailed it! On my first Dyno I had a major leak, turns out it was my tmic coupler that wasn't in correctly.
Glad it was an easy fix! Sometimes you end up getting tied away for the smallest things if they can't be easily fixed!
My tuner told me breaks really don’t matter. They won’t touch the breaks at all during the dyno session, that’s what the rollers are for. But everything else is on point. Fuel is a huge one too! Make sure you have good fuel in your car!
Yessss, don't show up with no fuel 😅 and the brakes may depend on the tuner, not sure but regardless brakes should be good anyway 😂
I was told because of the flex fuel tune that I should bring the car in with a 1/4 tank of 93 and bring or purchase at their shop 5 gallons ethanol.
88self Sti yup. That’s exactly what I did. 91 oct 1/4 of a tank. And I brought 10 gallons of e85 so I could make a e60 blend.

+1 for fuel filter! Was dyno-ing my subie. Tuner said I was losing fuel pressure at high rev. Thought it was my pump going... found out my in-tank fuel filter was splitting open at high pressure
Those smaller items can get ya! Had my fuel hanger go out on me on the dyno before lol
As far as the compression test goes, I’m going down to Bren tuning for a dyno in a few weeks and that was an item they specifically mentioned on the checklist they sent me.
Some shops require it, others suggest it but its not a bad thing to do regardless

@@Smeedia No doubt. I was able to find some really good ones drilled and slotted so happy. Now I can keep the brakes cooler and decrease the dirt and debris build-up. Let me ask this though I looked at my calipers and figured they should go perfectly fine the new rotors and pads correct?

I’m actually 80% g for possibly my first dyno tune possibly end of June! But depends really my states travel restrictions... didn’t think about the diff and trans fluids will look into that for sure
Not a bad thing to swap out, they're going to do a lot of pulls so its a good idea to have freH fluids in there, and hoping that your able to get on the dyno!
Smeedia yeah lol I gotta fix my drive seat tho. One of the cables to adjust the distance fell off so it’s basically set for my short ass legs haha it’s a good anti theft system tho anyone taller then 5’4” won’t make be able to drive it. Plus the wheel is a qr 3” deep dish haha
Right on Brother I do all those things you say before my car goes in. 2014 WRX Limited the car is all done up. I bought it new when it came out.

A/f sensor,O2 sensor gets the gremlins sometimes and good luck with the stock clutch mine started slipping within few days of stage 3 1050X ots before protune.
Oof, nervous about the clutch still but going to send it 😅
@@Smeedia the Clutch started smelling bad driving at higher rpm's not even beating on the car below 4k no issues and upgraded before protune.

Make sure you have gas in the tank.. you would be surprised how many people bring the car without enough gas in it..

I know this video is 2 years old now, just want to add replace or upgrade the fuel pump and the fuel filter
Can you make a video showing all the filters we should check? I know about the intake filter, the cabin filter, and the in tank fuel pump filter, but I’m not sure which other ones there are.
Those are really the only ones that need attention, outside of that there are a few small ones that don't generally need to be changed for long service intervals
Forgot 1 very important sir. Ride height ! They will turn you down if your car is too low.
Also good to not, if the car can't make it onto the dyno, youll struggle a little 😅

You know, going into the tuner here for my 2nd run/tune after the latest round of installs.
I've wanted to have a good checklist of the things to make 100% you're ready, and low and behold, you just created one with pretty much all the things!
I also have to say, doing a lot of the things you've added so far, I don't know how you're doing this all without a lift. Oh man, the Down/Up pipe changes, up down up down...

Hey, so I bought a used STI it came with a access port but every time I put on it a check engine light comes on so idk what stage it is any advise
Might be a dumb question but can i drive my car to my tuner (hour away) once i add mods? (DP, intake manifold, Headers, uppipe, external wastegate) Or get some sort of ots map to get it there? thanks!
Some tuners suggest using the economy map, i generally prefer to use a base map made for the mkds to drive the car down

I know this is an old video but hoping for a reply. I’m having my mustang tuned in a couple of days. I added bigger injectors, pump , maf and supercharger. That’s why I want it tuned. After installing all the new parts it runs like shit. Will they be able to still tune it?
Who says you don't want you're engine to go kaboom on the dyno? As a youtuber that would make a great video and it would give you an excuse to throw in a forged short block. Win/Win my man.

Not a bad set up! What did the graph look like? What about a downpipe or boost controller? Seems a little high
@@Smeedia oh yeah and electronic boost controller (at 19psi), no down pipe, and SPT Exhaust.
I agree that it seems high, I kept asking him "I can't believe it made wilt make that much" he just laughed and said "it runs great and healthy, those numbers are normal..."
The car feels way better but honestly with those numbers I would expect to seriously feel a big difference. Idk it just seems odd a little bit.

@smeedia Is your engine guaranteed on the dyno? Like after they do the pre dyno check and say everything is good to go, is your engine covered if it blows up. What if the tuner stuffs up your tune and it blows up!?
If it blows up it blows up lol, the pre dyno check just makes sure the car is capable of going on the dyno. If it gives out I still have to replace it lol
@@Smeedia I personally think that's bs. A pro tune isn't cheap yet it's not even covered if it blows up on the dyno. Even after your car has been checked over. Getting my 07 STi tuned in a few months and just wondered if there is any kind of warranty with dyno tuning. Thanks 4 replying! 🙂

Question, does it matter at all what spark plugs I run? Would different plugs effect a tunes effectiveness
You can use standard or 1 step colder plugs, i would consult your tuner with what they want you to use

Hey broski, i know its an old video but i have a question.. My old accessport isnt working as far as reflashing its ots tunes, also the shop that tunes my car has since gone out of business... Any thoughts would be very appreciated as usual..
What happens when you try to reflash?
@@Smeedia it just says "error, not initializing' i was just flipping thru the accessport manual (its a cobb from 2005) and it says to put the car in test mode, with the plugs under the dash before reflashing. Does that sound right?
Yes, but normally it pulls up a prompt on the AP to tell you when to do so 🤔

Don’t need to change spark plugs so frequently every 30k miles is how long they should last
Some shops require fresh plugs before going on the rollers, others not so much.

They can deny you if there's too much wrong or if the car has issues and only charge for the pre dyno inspection, seen it happen a handful of times
