You just have to dig "Sammy" on stage.... around 1:50 Luke, me & Sammy.... this was 23 years ago..... I can't believe how "Whacked out" i look :-) We DEFINITELY had lots of fun playing & touring together!! To the negative comments about my sound selection, there's always room for improvement:-) I think my sounds are better now. I'm more bummed out with how I look here though LOL!
PS The time signature is 17/8 for those who asked!
I don't think anyone was moaning about that keyboard sound way back then so it's cool in my book. Here's hoping you boys do something else soon! :)
Your sound is amazing Dave! Dont listen to him!
I guess someone is just jealous hah... Always that one guy..
David, i´m from Germany and I had the honor to be a part of the crowd at that evening...believe me, that was one of the best Shows I ever heard in my Life. It was a great Band, great Songs and truly great performers...Thank you for that!
Speaking as one of the guys being critical about the keyboard sounds that were used I have to say it's really cool of you to respond here! Yet I still LOVE listening to this song. Actually (tried to) cover it with my band. The whole Candyman album is a gem that gets a regular spin to this day. The level of fun and musicality is off the charts. So if people say it's jealousy, well then I can wholeheartedly admit I'm jealous about the talent displayed here. Wish you guys did another album!
Some of the best musicians on earth
This has got to be the best instrumental songs ever written & by a percussionists-Simon Phillips!
❤Happy Anniversary To Candyman Album released March 29th 1994❤
What !! Musicianship at its finest 😲
That changing of drumstick at 0:43! So calm and collected! Flawless drumming!
Luke s best solo album (although it s a lobotomys album) great tour and great songs... Real musicians.... Glad i got to see this 6 times live
Santamental is my favorite.
this band is on fire!
Mostruosi!!!!
I wish I could have been in the crowd at this show.... what a performance!
Amazing 😮
Man, I would give a limb to be able to play like these cats. A lot of my musical influences came (and still come) from bands like Toto. But I consider these 'projects' just as influential. I don't think they really cared about big commercial succes but just to have FUN playing with eachother. And the result is simpy fantastic! Saw Luke play in some smaller venues with these 'projects'. Always ready to give it all. But also always paying tribute to his peers. Love it!
Just incredible playing ... lights out!!!!
the piano solo is a Grammy
grammy award that is
What a band!
simon phillips... eres un gran maestro.. tu no tienes limite,, siempre me sorprendes...
Simply excellent on every level and from every angle!
Awesome concert. One of my favourite DVD. At 9:00 a small imprecision and Simon shout!!! :)
Welch eine geile Sendung, war schon immer im Senderrandbezirk und ist jetzt von youtube komplett ersetzt worden. Hier konnten die wirklichen Cracks mal alles zum Besten geben. Lang iss her
Semplicemente Fantastici...
Awesome!!! My fave Luke tune and this is an amazing live version. What a band!! Thx for posting this
David Garfield!!!
Hoćemo još!
Monumental 😮
need to see it at least once a week....
One word. Control.
0:43 Simon replacing a broken stick while keeping the beat - unreal!
ah yes, so fast but clear !
That was a clever stick trick he did at shows!
Eccezionale.
Favoured this obviously...G...
Bloody fantastic!
... and only one Simon Phillips!
If we're splitting hairs, the riff is divided into 8/8 and 9/8. Nicely phrased over the bar line, love the groove.
It can be also counted 7+7 +3 !
che gruppo!!
love it!!
High on blow! Amazing!
Such great musicians, such a great tune.....I just had to learn it....
Here we are, 11 years after your post and I've just about mastered the first five chords!!!! Sensational piece of music
@@andykilvington1651 😅👍
Such brilliant players...true musicians...with respect for their elders as represented by Steve's T-shirt...didn't sell out to the garbage we are inundated with in today's boring, commercial music scene...
What a Band!!!!!
yes! yes! yes!!!!
Yeah !! :)
17/8 for those who didn't count :-D
Why the heck is Luke (almost) never mentioned when the topic is "guitar gods/heroes"? I guess he played a lot of "pretty" music which for many narrow minded people equals uncool. Too bad. Luke is awesome - and still alive and kicking ass!
Christian Schonberger couldn't agree more. I'm a super fan of Toto and Steve and whenever I tell friends how greatly awesome Steve is they say I'm obsessed with him. He's played in almost all of the 70s to the early 80s
It’s because the vast majority of music listeners are casual listeners - they simply don’t dig beyond top 40 or what is accessible. It’s those who find it to be a passion and rewarding who dig deep and learn about music beyond the surface. I know maybe 200-300 people in my life - of them maybe only a handful even want to talk about music. I enjoy art but I’m not going to visit ever museum. I love to eat but I’m not going to become a chef. Enjoy Luke - he’s ours - our passion for his works makes us want to share with the world - it’s natural and makes us who we are!
UNFUCKINGREAL!
See you at the party people.
hell yeah :D
Garfield awesome
You can dance to anything and its in 17/8
Grande Simon phillips
Lmao the chick up the front dancing.
7/8 10/8
Man I also never knew Jackie Mason could smoke on keys!
Dream theater live in download
Incredibili! Simon sempre il n1. Purtroppo il filmato è rovinato da un regista incapace...
1234 123 1234 123 123 is the best way to count it. There is still a danger you suffer a stroke during counting...
I count it (feel it) as a slow 6 then a fast 5 ....123456 (quarter notes) 12345 (eighth notes) feels more solid that way !
1.26 such dance
Sammy Davis is stunned and frozen 🤪
Fucking awsome!
Music - just f ' in great music ! - something totally lost in today's crap - keyboard dude here is channeling the late great Kenny Kirkland - good on ya Bro ! :)
gros line up pour d'la good zik
Funny how the girl in the front trying to dance to the 7/8 groove..:)
lol too funny
I will never understand why, no one camera is on Simon during his solo. Moron director!!
Does anybody know what time signature this song is in? Just curious...
could be 17/8 or alternating 7/8 + 10/8
SfCfA2R4L0E0T Thanks dude! Much obliged
***** I think Kedem Hai is correct, either way it comes out to 17 1/8 notes.. lol
Wessel van den Broek I don't believe there are 3 accents. maybe 2 (1...7, 1...10) but I believe there is only 1 every 17/8.
+Matt T 17/8 according to Luke and Simon
lol @ 1:42 that keyboardist's look :D
xstingrayx David Garfield
dude that funny cuz we play led boots and chicks always dance to the 7/8 sect
What time signature is the intro in?
fotillas I could it 1 bar of 8/8 followed by a bar of 9/8, tricky though as that first accent is on the 8th beat of the first bar!
+Steadders Its 17/8
17/8. 7+10
17/8
8/8 and 9/8
simon philips?
Jay Nartz yup
Artie Lange on the keyboard lol
Better than my granny's meatloaf. Sorry granny!
hoho ;)
18 singers disliking this video... :D
Simon drops a stick at :43-:44 ...whoops!! :-)
Throws a broken one rather than drops it. Common enough in drumming.
fala vršo, aaaaaaa
not bad for 24 years old stuff!
Lukather is my favorite player ever.
But i hate his modern tone, from 1993 to today. It’s very noisy and crunchy, i’m not a big fan of Luke MM.
The perfect Lukather tone for me is that one from 1990
Jesus that terrible Korg dx7/roland D50 Rhodes keyboard sound, with those phenomenal guitar tones..? Someone needs to talk to the keyboard player..seriously. I mean hes got the chops..but he needs a new set of ears on his sound-scapes. No disrespect.( I have 25 years Engineering XP/2 platinum)..
You now, I actually agree.... I LOVE mr Garfields piano-playing (I own the Candyman CD), but his sounds were never to my taste. And even though this recording is from 1994, I'd like to think (far) better sounds were available at the time.
jetpaq They are both early 1990's keyboards. The Yamaha SY99 synth is from 1991, so it was pretty much state of the art keyboards at that time. But of course you can choose different sounds from them. It's also a question about cut through the mix. I notice that he accidentally changes sound in the keyboards solo and back again - since the function buttons on the Yamaha stage piano are to close to the piano keys.
lunde28 Agreed but this show wasn't in the 90's.lol he has alarger selection of soundscapes to choose from now and he wasn't using them effectively.
"but this show wasn't in the 90's" I guess 1994 must be in a different decade then.
These are typical fusion sounds, never heard other artists of this genre from the early 90s era?
