Hallelujah, I thank you for being here for me.. I had stopped crocheting for a year or so, just not well, trying to adjust to LUPUS and all. I have many circular project that went nowhere… I wanted to make them into a square.. I’ve searched the sites for days,, I found you yesterday, March 16th, 2024. Now here you finally helping me.❤I decided to follow you from the very beginning. I found out I forgot how to make a simple circle!! I practiced and got it. I stopped at the beginning, two double crochets in the twelve stitches. I can do it. You give great videos and show exactly what I need to get back into crocheting. I am seventy nine and I thank you. 🧶Judith 🦋🌈😇🙏 I forgot how to make the simple circle. It took practice..Now I am at the very beginning of your pattern doing the 2 double crochets in the 12 stitches…You gave me peace of mind finally.
Great tutorial. Exactly what I was looking for. And I have edited this comment to add how fantastic your joins are! Truly invisible! Thank you so much! 😊
I am quite impressed. I have been crocheting for close to 50 years. A friend suggested watching a tutorial to make these squares. I absolutely love the pattern. You did a wonderful job instructing how to go about it. I would definitely recommend this particular video. Thanks
I’m only a total beginner who literally started learning yesterday and although this was a bit infuriating at times I was able to do a pretty good job at it! Proud of maself it’s so cute
FINALLY! Someone who yarns over like I do. I could never hold the yarn “properly”. My fingers just couldn’t go that way. Thank you for making me feel “normal-ish”. I’m subscribing😀
Bless you my child. I have watched several tutorials for this Square and tried two other versions and by FAR yours is simply the best. No fuss way to join the new yarn, finishing at a corner, good clear directions including stitch counts which are so important. I'm a lefty and had no problems following along. I am a fan.
I've been crocheting for 50 years now. This was a wonderful step by step instruction. I decided to watch it because I have some beautiful old doilies I wanted to repurpose. I intend to convert them into a vest using the doily as the center front design but I needed to know how to get it into a square form to accomplish that. This is the answer! Thank you. ❤
Thank you for this tutorial I’m using the same colors and adding little smiles and eyes to them so I can make a smiley face tote bag :D! This was easy to follow especially for my first time making granny squares!🧶
I'm making a smiley face project too! I'm also thinking of making some like peace signs, and now I just need to decide if I want to make a tote bag, blanket or cardigan lol
Thank you so much for this, so easy to follow. Uses stitches i already know, only took me 5 mins to learn. Already knew how to do the circle just needed the square part
I found your videos and I love the round to a square, you are so good at instructions and your voice is so calming. I am kinda new at this but I actually made one watching your video and I love it! It’s calming to me also making the granny square, Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment and for your kind words, you've made my day! And I'm so happy you found the tutorial helpful. Welcome to the wonderful world of crochet! ❤️
Thank you very much. Have just completed my first one as I worked along with you. It turned out well. Had to convert the US terms into UK terms as I went so that slowed me down a bit but I think i'm off and away now and planning my colours for a cushion cover. Very good instructions, thank you once more.
Thanks for the tutorial I just came across it and found it so helpful. Thanks for giving the count for the stitches between the corners that was so helpful
Question for you, how to turn a bigger circle into a square? I have a circle made of 52 stitches already and I want to turn it into square, but I don’t know how many DC, HC, and SC I have to do on each four side?
I had a similar situation with a circle of 72 stitches. I divided my stitch count by 4 which was 18. I noticed in the pattern repeat on video that 1/3rd of the stitches were SC. So I divided my 18 by 3 to get 6. Then I knew each repeat would have the 2 corner stitches + the 6 SC= 8 sts. Then I made the remaining 10 stitches HDC. So my pattern went *DCINC, CH 1, DCINC, 5 HDC, 6 SC, 5HDC* (repeat 3x) I hope this is helpful.
@iamsquish1017 This helped me so much, thank you very much. I am making a delicate baby blanket and have 48 stitches. You helped me with the math, I appreciate it. 😊
How did you join all these granny squares into a blanket? I'm thinking maybe SC all the way..??? I got addicted to your video and made 25 in two days. These are really great fun to make after you get the hang of it. They come out beautiful. Now I want to teach my grand daughter how to make them! Did you make a video showing how to connect them? You're the best. Many thanks for your video!
Hii oh my god these are so cute…. I’m using them to make a smiley face tote bag. I was wondering if you could make a video on the ways that you join them together. If not thats ok but thank you sm for making this video 😊
i loved this tutorial, so easy to follow and i love how you show what youre doing more than once. im new to crocheting, so what should i do with the loose ends in the middle and also where the colour changed? thank you and happy holidays!! :)
@@JustBeCraftyhello again sorry quick question I did it today and the circle came out great but when it came to the outer square when you came down to like the last 5 or so I only had two left and my square it’s not exactly a square i was using a 4mm hook
Hello, thank you for your tutorial, as a beginner, it’s the easiest one to follow 🥰 Could the circles be made separately the finish them all off with the border colour later, once I’ve got a few made?
Thank u so much!!!! I Been crocheting for over 10 years and never grasp the concept of a granny circle thank u!!! I wanna make it bigger then add the square. So I’m hoping and guessing I just continue with the increases?
Yes you would continue increasing in the same fashion, but the stitch count will differ when you start the border to square off the circle. Happy crocheting! ♥️
Hi there thanks so much for your excellent tutorial! Im making blocks of 12inches each how do I increase on the corners? Do I increase more every row between the 2double crochets? Regards😊
Im so happy I came across this video I've been trying to crochet a square for months and it just never went right, soon as I came across this video I made a perfect square, I'm going to proceed to making a blanket :)
At 13.40 you slip stitch into that stitch and then you instruct to slip stitch into the next chain, but you don't. you insert your hook into the hole. I'm wondering if this was an accidental error or am I supposed to insert into the hole? help!!!
Ive been crocheting about 50 years but have never seen a corner done in two spaces. I just did it in one space and added one sc in the space where the corner would have been.
The corner is created over two stitches in Round 4 only **in order to slowly turn the circle into a square** remaining corners are made in the corner chain spaces, just like any other basic crochet square. Regarding your other comment, your square's curly/curvy issues are likely because you are transitioning from circle to square too rapidly instead of a slower transition per the pattern instructions in Round 4. I hope this helps you out! Happy crocheting! 🥰
Can I make a larger version of this with a circle having an end row of 108 stiches instead of 36, and still able to achieve a proper square at the end?
Is there also a tutorial coming that shows how you can join al these squares togheter? I have made al the squares but as a beginner I find it very difficult how to join them and make a blanket of it.
I am running into a problem where on the last side of the border I only have 13 stitches instead of 15. My 3 other sides have the 15. Not sure where I’m going wrong.
I went to your site to look for the written pattern on the borders, & I couldn’t find it. I’ve had to watch that part of the video 3 times & write it down.
Holaa al finalizar la base del circulo me quedan 38 puntos y para continuar haciendo el cuadrado me sobran puntos como puedo hacer, ya cerré la base de circulo 😢 ❤
I’m a semi beginner, and I am good with all the stitches here. I am really good at regular granny squares, but with the circle step it keeps curling up. How would I stop this from happening? Are my stitches too tight or loose? Help!
Hi Mya! Hmm... yes, it sounds like your might be making your stitches too tight, try loosening your stitches up a bit and see if that helps. If the problem isn't too bad, you could work as normal and try flattening out by wet or steam blocking your squares flat in the end.
So, for rows 4 and 5, there is just one chain between the 2-dc corner sets, but in row 6, you put 2 chains between them? This is different from your written instructions on the website.
Hi Laura! Yes, that is correct for Rounds 4, 5, and 6. The written instructions on my site also reflect those same instructions as well. Happy crocheting!

WHAT IS THE NUMBER OF STITCHES ON THE OUTER CIRCLE ?
BEFORE beginning SQUARING..
OK IT'S 36 STITCHES ÷ 4 = 9..... SO EACH SECTION HAS 9 STITCHES:

If I was to add another colour row onto the circle, would I just add an extra single crochet on each side when doing the border?
