I have read in the LOQ subreddits that units with our specific CPU are seeing a lot of Mother Board failures. One person suggested to undervolt the CPU to reduce the chances of that. So, I have two questions: 1) How long have you had your laptop for and is it working fine as of now? 2) I have used the laptop for about 3 days without undervolting. CPU uv is really useful but i don’t think it’s worth to undervolt 4060 because this GPU don’t consume that much wattage and pretty cold by itself compared to 30 series but pretty weak and not a future proof for new gen games so i don’t think it’s worth to lose performance. Did you try to UV by increasing the whole curve @900 to 2500-2550 mhz? That’s way you will lose less performance maybe 2-3 fps but can win 2-3 degrees.

I just have one question, you mentioned to use custom mode in lenovo vantage and max out all the options, but will there be a problem if apply the undervolting in the performance preset and not custom mode?
The reason I maxed out everything in custom mode is so that we are able fully optimize the performance using throttlestop. No technical problem if you switch to other modes but you will lose some GPU performance.

Hey, I know nothing about undervolting but I have changed the processor power boost mode to "Aggressive at guaranteed" from "Aggressive" which greatly improved my temps. I don't really know what those settings do but I wanted to know if undervolting will help me with performance compared to what I have done.
I have a different video for Ryzen undervolting. Once again not all models support it. We undervolt when we want to make our chip more efficient. We are simply lowering power while keeping clock speeds the same. Without spinning your head if you are happy with your current performance and thermals then no need to do anything else.
People you shouldn’t undervolt or repaste your new laptop as long as it's under warranty so you can get a new one if something goes wrong. You want to use your laptop as hard as possible during the warranty period. If the laptop dies, you get a new one. If it doesn't die in 3 years, it probably won't die at all. Temperatures around 80°C won't kill your laptop. I used my old 1070 laptop for nonstop mining for about a month at 90 c, and it didn't die

I reached min temps at few volts above the voltage at which my laptop crashed. For eg: Like game crashed at -139.6 and works fine till -138.7 but lowest temps at -133.6 so i set it to -133.6...is it ok?

So for the fist five min the temp was like 75-77 and after 10 mins it’s come to 86-87 again(i play on balance without al) Do you think it‘s normal tems for this laptop? Depending on the GPU.. I prefer it to be at or under 80C.. but regardless I recommend custom mode, as that allows fan control and you can also lock the GPU throttling temp to 80C.

I wouldn't pay that much. 7840HS is an exceptionally good CPU. So much more advanced technologically. Still to me it isn't worth paying 15k more. But I'm different, if you are getting the 8845HS+4060 setup for 90k-95k odd, can go for it.
For Intel 12th gen and later, only HX/HK processors are unlocked for undervolting and overclocking. But despite that Intel allows and some manufacturers do block the ability to undervolt like Acer Predator Helios Neo 16.
1) Yes try and apply for 230W charger. Lenovo's latest BIOS update fixed the battery drain without much compromise to GPU power(may be 5W reduced). Reported by user in my Telegram group. 2) No.

@@amirsam4613 the actual problem is in the power modes, high performance mode is allowing the hardware to draw power from battery. I saw in RUclips and the problem is solved by just using 230w adaptor and some battery tweak settings in BIOS

Hello! I used the same settings in the video but everytime when I play Cyberpunk 2077 it starts to stutter for a bit and FPS drops to 20 and it does that for a second. Then it comes back to 100-120 FPS. Did you have the same issue?
Not really.. some times it did when I first undervolted it. Did some fine tuning and using same settings till now.. no issues ever. No stutter nothing.
Hello man , when I underclock (I did at 132mhz) if I turn on laptop on battery mode then turn on ac power I get about 100fps average in cs2 and varlorant, if I turn on with ac power on it’s works normal , what can I do ? I do have a question that I have a intel i5-11400H in my MSI notebook and I enabled the overclocking options from MSI bios so I can use throttle stop but when I use throttle stop UV even -150mv and save changes perfectly it does not reduce temperature at all...feels like my laptop is always on its peak temp while gaming no matter I UV Cpu/Gpu or use cooling pad. Please do you have any suggestions, my model is MSI GF63 THIN with RTX 3050
When you apply the negative offset does it actually reduce the voltage. See top right column, it'll change the values from 0000mV to your offset. And you should also see drop in power usage. Along with that you can also lock power limit using TPL option.. I have shown in this video. GF63 has pathetic cooling system.

@@aryanrana9860Check at the top where you select, CPU core or Cache.. does it say "FIVR Control" or "undervolt protection"? I have said in the video, if it doesn't say "FIVR Control" then you are still being prevented from applying offsets. I guess you are using Windows 11 which is the culprit. Make sure Memory Integrity in Core Isolation is turned off. And finally disable Intel Virtualization from BIOS. See if it works... or just go back to Windows 10. Bro If your undervolting is not decreasing temperature then go to bios again and enable then disable Undervolt protection again it's worked for me now temp are under 85 in gta 5 and without under volt 90-95 ° , and then I limit cpu to 40w same fps but now temp are under 75-80 thanks brother!
Basically you were still under "undervolt protection" so the offsets were not even applying. I said in the video that at the top of FIVR window it should show "FIVR controls" instead of "Undervolt protection". Anyways now you have finally undervolted your CPU successfully.
I don't mind reducing the watts to 35w for my cpu inorder to increase lifespan of the laptop and avoiding mobo failure. Plus reducing the watts for gpu too because i am just a casual gamer who plays old games and few new games and i don't mind low fps between 40-50. But dlss going to give me more than 60. Vai i got acer nitro 5 12650h 3070 ti 32gb ram and this request isnt related to this video but i noticed that your cyberpunk gameplay looks very smooth unlike mine cz after 2.0 update the game is cpu intensive and in many areas fps just fall to mid 40s regardless of resolution and graphics settings otherwise i am getting anywhere between 70 to 90 fps but the game is stuttering a lot only way to not face such stutter is to get fsr3 mod frame gen which help but i would like to fix the issue its not just me but many other people too. i heard some ppl suggesting turnoff e cores which isnt possible cz laptop bios are locked and using process lasoo to park the cores also doesnt help. 1) 2 SSDs slots. 2230 + 2280 2) Yes big difference between 4050 and 4060 as 6GB VRAM is quickly becoming a big limitation. Take a look at my gaming review of this laptop to see comparison against 4050. 3) Didn't get but it has 1xUSB 3.2Gen2 10Gbps Type-C port with PD 140W. HDMI (2.1??). 3xUSB 3 Type-A 5Gbps. Ethernet and power jack and 3.5mm combo jack.

i have asus tuf f15 i5 11400h , earlier I was able to undervolt my CPU using throttlestop, but now the FIVR is locked. I tried disabling Virtualisation, but I am not able to undervolt. I am only able to put -30mV using the BIOS. Please help.
Whenever I limit my cpu's power consumption to 45 watts my cpu performs significantly worse (8-10k drop in Cinebench R23 scores and 50-100 fps drop in valorant) and when I remove the limit my cpu runs at constant 90 degree celsius, What do I do?
What CPU are you using? What are your clock speeds at 45W vs when you are using uncapped power limits. Check 2:51 for Cinebench performance. Undervolt vs Stock. Tell me did you actually undervolt + lock your CPU to 45W TDP? Or did you simply drop your TDP without undervolting in which case, of course you'll lose a lot of performance. It's typical of Intel as it loses a lot of performance at lower power limits.
I am using a i7-14650HX on the Lenovo Legion 5i When the settings in TS are default I am getting a score of 23k at 4.1ghz but the temp is 90+ degrees and the CPU is drawing 110 watts When I simply cap the TDP to 45W I get 14K score but the CPU only reaches 70-75 degree Same result with UV + Wattage Limit

I haven't measured it that way.. battery life is terrible. 3 hrs max.. it's because the entire system takes too much power. We can lower the CPU power a lot by undervolting but the other system parts take too much power.

I buyed lenovo loq i5 13th gen rtx 3050 on 9th of Aug,2024 and the motherboard died on 29th Aug, 2024 while playing rdr 2 keeping the system in balanced mode and gpu in hybrid mode, contacted lenovo customer care and my work id is created for motherboard replacement..Will after replacement again this motherboard issue can arrise? Also when the motherboard died that time surrounding temp was around 24-27 deg Celcius...after replacement shall i do undervolting??
No, 13th and 14th gen HX models have a high rate of failure. Both Intel and Lenovo are to be blamed. Even 12th gen HX models are affected. No undervolting or anything will fix it.

Yup you can undervolt your GPU if it's reaching close to 85C. You can also use Lenovo vantage to set lower CPU thermal throttling temperature limit in custom mode.
Hey bro i have the same model and i have noticed some ghosting in some games. There clear ghosting in the ufo test. Is that due to low response time of the screen or anything can be done?
I haven't noticed any ghosting, I'm less susceptible to it. Typically the 100% sRGB screens 144hz have around 6-7ms G2G response times which is perfect for 144hz. Not sure what screen model you have. If you are noticing ghosting, then tough luck, that's all.

Boss does this only apply to i5 12th gen Hx/hk, and so what about i5 13th GEN hx, i7 13th GEN hx or ryzen 7 7840hs, 8845Hs. Does under volting work on AMD processors as well
Undervolting steps are different for AMD and is supported only on Ryzen 9 7940HS/8945HS and all 7045HX parts. What I showed is applicable on all Intel HX laptop parts or desktop K parts... same thing same process. On a side note: Undervolting is not always needed for AMD but is absolutely vital for Intel due to poor efficiency.

Check latest BIOS update, Lenovo has implemented fix for the battery drop without sacrificing performance. Or call Lenovo support to replace AC adapter with 230W.

On my I5 12450h 4060, I got 10300 in 10min throttletest on custom mode. The 12450h is actually slightly more powerful than the 12450hx. The 4p cores of both processors are 4.4ghz but the 4e cores of 12450h are 3.30ghz while 12450hx are 3.10ghz.
Haha bro you are forgetting that screen recording is on for me. 65W + Undervolting -> 10 mins Cinebench R23 : 11180 points. I didn't even have to use 80W.

The 12450hx without undervolt performs worse and thats because of the slightly less e clock speed of e cores. But i'll give it you as the undervolted 12450hx matches the 12450h and has better efficiency and tempratures.
@@loquser Yup! Undervolting benefit is the key. Yes there is 3.3GHz vs 3.1GHz difference on the E-cores but undervolting makes up the difference and more. It also supports overclocking, but I haven't explored it much. Single P-core can go 4.5GHz.

Reboot the laptop. Turn on throttlestop and then boot your game and start playing. Sometimes switching between the apps while gaming may introduce stutters. Telegram group link in the desc.

Can I do this with i5 13450hx lenevo loq?, there is an alternative way I use, while playing single player games 60 FPS is enough for me so instead of an unstable 90 to 110 fps, I limit it to 60 FPS and get way better temps
Are you fans running at max speed under full load? Mine was doing the same, fans were not running at full speed. After changing the custom settings again and again and few restarts it was back to normal

I had a concern though. I have a LOQ with the configuration as you. I have read in the LOQ subreddits that units with our specific CPU are seeing a lot of Mother Board failures. One person suggested to undervolt the CPU to reduce the chances of that. So, I have two questions:
1) How long have you had your laptop for and is it working fine as of now?
2) I have used the laptop for about 3 days without undervolting. I ran heavy apps like Minecraft with mods and Cyberpunk. Do you think that will be a problem in the future? Or will undervolting now and continuing using it be fine?

Overclocking is upto you. Mostly will be helpful in eSports games.
It feel pretty sad to buy a laptop with strong Cpu and Gpu and then have to undervolt to limit its power because it’s overheating too much, feel like i can’t use my laptop to its max potential.

CPU uv is really useful
but i don’t think it’s worth to undervolt 4060 because this GPU don’t consume that much wattage and pretty cold by itself compared to 30 series but pretty weak and not a future proof for new gen games so i don’t think it’s worth to lose performance.
Did you try to UV by increasing the whole curve @900 to 2500-2550 mhz? That’s way you will lose less performance maybe 2-3 fps but can win 2-3 degrees.

I just have one question, you mentioned to use custom mode in lenovo vantage and max out all the options, but will there be a problem if apply the undervolting in the performance preset and not custom mode?
The reason I maxed out everything in custom mode is so that we are able fully optimize the performance using throttlestop.
No technical problem if you switch to other modes but you will lose some GPU performance.

Hey, I know nothing about undervolting but I have changed the processor power boost mode to "Aggressive at guaranteed" from "Aggressive" which greatly improved my temps. I don't really know what those settings do but I wanted to know if undervolting will help me with performance compared to what I have done.

We undervolt when we want to make our chip more efficient. We are simply lowering power while keeping clock speeds the same.
Without spinning your head if you are happy with your current performance and thermals then no need to do anything else.

People you shouldn’t undervolt or repaste your new laptop as long as it's under warranty so you can get a new one if something goes wrong. You want to use your laptop as hard as possible during the warranty period. If the laptop dies, you get a new one. If it doesn't die in 3 years, it probably won't die at all. Temperatures around 80°C won't kill your laptop. I used my old 1070 laptop for nonstop mining for about a month at 90 c, and it didn't die

This has to be the weirdest comment that I have gotten till now. You should undervolt regardless of anything. My 6 year old 1050Ti laptop is still running with an undervolt applied on day 1 of purchase.

I reached min temps at few volts above the voltage at which my laptop crashed.
For eg: Like game crashed at -139.6 and works fine till -138.7 but lowest temps at -133.6 so i set it to -133.6...is it ok?

So for the fist five min the temp was like 75-77 and after 10 mins it’s come to 86-87 again(i play on balance without al) Do you think it‘s normal tems for this laptop? Depending on the GPU.. I prefer it to be at or under 80C.. but regardless I recommend custom mode, as that allows fan control and you can also lock the GPU throttling temp to 80C.

I wouldn't pay that much. 7840HS is an exceptionally good CPU. So much more advanced technologically.
Still to me it isn't worth paying 15k more. But I'm different, if you are getting the 8845HS+4060 setup for 90k-95k odd, can go for it.
r7 7840hs for 50% more battery life, in some laptops this chip provide 10+ hour battery. u can carry this laptop without charger.

For Intel 12th gen and later, only HX/HK processors are unlocked for undervolting and overclocking. But despite that Intel allows and some manufacturers do block the ability to undervolt like Acer Predator Helios Neo 16.

1) Yes try and apply for 230W charger. Lenovo's latest BIOS update fixed the battery drain without much compromise to GPU power(may be 5W reduced). Reported by user in my Telegram group.

@@amirsam4613 the actual problem is in the power modes, high performance mode is allowing the hardware to draw power from battery. I saw in RUclips and the problem is solved by just using 230w adaptor and some battery tweak settings in BIOS

Try other means like AC Loadline balancing or simply cap your CPU temp to whatever you wish like 85C or 80C using Vantage custom mode or PROCHOT offset in Throttlestop.

Hello! I used the same settings in the video but everytime when I play Cyberpunk 2077 it starts to stutter for a bit and FPS drops to 20 and it does that for a second. Then it comes back to 100-120 FPS. Did you have the same issue?
Not really.. some times it did when I first undervolted it. Did some fine tuning and using same settings till now.. no issues ever. No stutter nothing.

I do have a question that I have a intel i5-11400H in my MSI notebook and I enabled the overclocking options from MSI bios so I can use throttle stop but when I use throttle stop UV even -150mv and save changes perfectly it does not reduce temperature at all...feels like my laptop is always on its peak temp while gaming no matter I UV Cpu/Gpu or use cooling pad.

When you apply the negative offset does it actually reduce the voltage. See top right column, it'll change the values from 0000mV to your offset. And you should also see drop in power usage.
Along with that you can also lock power limit using TPL option.. I have shown in this video.
GF63 has pathetic cooling system.

@@aryanrana9860Check at the top where you select, CPU core or Cache.. does it say "FIVR Control" or "undervolt protection"?
I have said in the video, if it doesn't say "FIVR Control" then you are still being prevented from applying offsets.
I guess you are using Windows 11 which is the culprit. Make sure Memory Integrity in Core Isolation is turned off. And finally disable Intel Virtualization from BIOS. See if it works... or just go back to Windows 10.

Bro If your undervolting is not decreasing temperature then go to bios again and enable then disable Undervolt protection again it's worked for me now temp are under 85 in gta 5 and without under volt 90-95 ° , and then I limit cpu to 40w same fps but now temp are under 75-80 thanks brother!
Basically you were still under "undervolt protection" so the offsets were not even applying.
I said in the video that at the top of FIVR window it should show "FIVR controls" instead of "Undervolt protection".
Anyways now you have finally undervolted your CPU successfully.

I don't mind reducing the watts to 35w for my cpu inorder to increase lifespan of the laptop and avoiding mobo failure. Plus reducing the watts for gpu too because i am just a casual gamer who plays old games and few new games and i don't mind low fps between 40-50. But dlss going to give me more than 60. So its a good thing overall. Thanks for the guide.

Vai i got acer nitro 5 12650h 3070 ti 32gb ram and this request isnt related to this video but i noticed that your cyberpunk gameplay looks very smooth unlike mine cz after 2.0 update the game is cpu intensive and in many areas fps just fall to mid 40s regardless of resolution and graphics settings otherwise i am getting anywhere between 70 to 90 fps but the game is stuttering a lot only way to not face such stutter is to get fsr3 mod frame gen which help but i would like to fix the issue its not just me but many other people too. i heard some ppl suggesting turnoff e cores which isnt possible cz laptop bios are locked and using process lasoo to park the cores also doesnt help. 2) Yes big difference between 4050 and 4060 as 6GB VRAM is quickly becoming a big limitation. Take a look at my gaming review of this laptop to see comparison against 4050.

Whenever I limit my cpu's power consumption to 45 watts my cpu performs significantly worse (8-10k drop in Cinebench R23 scores and 50-100 fps drop in valorant) and when I remove the limit my cpu runs at constant 90 degree celsius, What do I do?
What CPU are you using? What are your clock speeds at 45W vs when you are using uncapped power limits.
Check 2:51 for Cinebench performance. Undervolt vs Stock.
Tell me did you actually undervolt + lock your CPU to 45W TDP? Or did you simply drop your TDP without undervolting in which case, of course you'll lose a lot of performance. It's typical of Intel as it loses a lot of performance at lower power limits.
I am using a i7-14650HX on the Lenovo Legion 5i
When the settings in TS are default I am getting a score of 23k at 4.1ghz but the temp is 90+ degrees and the CPU is drawing 110 watts
When I simply cap the TDP to 45W I get 14K score but the CPU only reaches 70-75 degree

I haven't measured it that way.. battery life is terrible. 3 hrs max.. it's because the entire system takes too much power. We can lower the CPU power a lot by undervolting but the other system parts take too much power.

I buyed lenovo loq i5 13th gen rtx 3050 on 9th of Aug,2024 and the motherboard died on 29th Aug, 2024 while playing rdr 2 keeping the system in balanced mode and gpu in hybrid mode, contacted lenovo customer care and my work id is created for motherboard replacement..Will after replacement again this motherboard issue can arrise? Also when the motherboard died that time surrounding temp was around 24-27 deg Celcius...after replacement shall i do undervolting??
No, 13th and 14th gen HX models have a high rate of failure. Both Intel and Lenovo are to be blamed. Even 12th gen HX models are affected.

2595 is normal.. it actually runs at 2745Mhz in extreme mode by default

Yup you can undervolt your GPU if it's reaching close to 85C. You can also use Lenovo vantage to set lower CPU thermal throttling temperature limit in custom mode.

Hey bro i have the same model and i have noticed some ghosting in some games. There clear ghosting in the ufo test. Is that due to low response time of the screen or anything can be done?
I haven't noticed any ghosting, I'm less susceptible to it. Typically the 100% sRGB screens 144hz have around 6-7ms G2G response times which is perfect for 144hz. Not sure what screen model you have.
If you are noticing ghosting, then tough luck, that's all.

Try the ufo ghosting test, it's visible there clearly.

Boss does this only apply to i5 12th gen Hx/hk, and so what about i5 13th GEN hx, i7 13th GEN hx or ryzen 7 7840hs, 8845Hs. Does under volting work on AMD processors as well
Undervolting steps are different for AMD and is supported only on Ryzen 9 7940HS/8945HS and all 7045HX parts.
What I showed is applicable on all Intel HX laptop parts or desktop K parts... same thing same process.
On a side note: Undervolting is not always needed for AMD but is absolutely vital for Intel due to poor efficiency.

@@vaisakhps744 its doing pretty well because i am constantly monitoring temp and also lowered the max TDP of CPU to about 45w , but would say if you are willing to take risk take , otherwise look for other options

Vantage app doesn't have much precision plus I think it only goes down to -100mV.

Yea you cannot undervolt the CPU as it's locked by Intel. But GPU can be undervolted.

hi bro i have i5 12450hx with 3050 6gb(lenevo loq) and 170 w charger , while gaming my laptop battery was draining as 170 W ac adpater is not powerful enough and my battery life is getting affected

Check latest BIOS update, Lenovo has implemented fix for the battery drop without sacrificing performance.
Or call Lenovo support to replace AC adapter with 230W.

On my I5 12450h 4060, I got 10300 in 10min throttletest on custom mode.
The 12450h is actually slightly more powerful than the 12450hx. The 4p cores of both processors are 4.4ghz but the 4e cores of 12450h are 3.30ghz while 12450hx are 3.10ghz.

65W + Undervolting -> 10 mins Cinebench R23 : 11180 points. I didn't even have to use 80W.
And single run result is 11326 :) Also only 60W+UV.
@@DeepteshLovesTECHIts alright. I got 10k with built in screen recorder and 10min test. Single runs give 11k+. The 12450hx without undervolt performs worse and thats because of the slightly less e clock speed of e cores.
But i'll give it you as the undervolted 12450hx matches the 12450h and has better efficiency and tempratures.
@@loquser Yup! Undervolting benefit is the key. Yes there is 3.3GHz vs 3.1GHz difference on the E-cores but undervolting makes up the difference and more. It also supports overclocking, but I haven't explored it much. Single P-core can go 4.5GHz.

Reboot the laptop. Turn on throttlestop and then boot your game and start playing. Sometimes switching between the apps while gaming may introduce stutters.

There is cpu overclock option in the lenovo vantage app why didn't you use that one to undervolt the cpu over the tradel stop ??

That's Throttlestop provides more granular options and is more light weight.

the fact of using other software's on top and to start throttlestop on every reboot even with scheduler it's more complicated and cumbersome
the app itself is a lot more complex as well

Can I do this with i5 13450hx lenevo loq?, there is an alternative way I use, while playing single player games 60 FPS is enough for me so instead of an unstable 90 to 110 fps, I limit it to 60 FPS and get way better temps
Yea higher fps = more CPU usage. So limiting fps also works.
But yea undervolting is the ultimate solution for temps and performance.

Mine was doing the same, fans were not running at full speed. After changing the custom settings again and again and few restarts it was back to normal
