    Man, Cap's suit in the 1st Avengers is such a piece of shit... Straight from party city or something! SOOO glad the Russo's gave him some good suits! Also, Gwen's death in TASM2 is one of the ONLY good scenes in that movie. As a massive Spidey fan, I thought it was full of emotion. Also read that in the original cut, Peter goes back up & beats the shit out of Harry (doesn't deserve the name GG) but it was too dark for kids (bs). Could've saved the movie tbh

    Poor Thor... Losing the hammer is bad, but his name too? It's not fair. Thor was Thor since birth, before he lifted Mjolnir. I know he gave it to Jane, but she shouldn't have accepted. It's not a title, it's his identity.

    • @sofiamatos8297
      @sofiamatos8297 8 лет назад +17

      M'aiq the Liar Me too, and the way they keep shoving in that Jane is so much better than Thor ever was without any real explanation only makes it worse.

    • @sofiamatos8297
      @sofiamatos8297 8 лет назад +3

      ***** I doubt it. There are two Mjolnirs now. Jane is gonna be cured and she'll be a super hero with the original hammer while Thor will get the Ultimate Mjolnir. Jane can't lose the hammer now or else Marvel will be accused of being misogynists.

    • @aliquidgaming1068
      @aliquidgaming1068 8 лет назад

      not in some of the universe in Marvel. his hammer holds the power and real Thors essence and passes it on. if you're familiar with DC's doctor fate then it works just like his helmet

    Great list. I know of every single one of these (except of North stars cmg out) and though I'm not crazy about some of the character changes I can't disagree that these turning points were very impact full on their respective super heros. Well done

  • @JohnWilsonComicsGuy
    @JohnWilsonComicsGuy 8 лет назад +3

    I really think Northstar's coming out had a lot more impact to the overall X-Men universe than Iceman's. Could it be he was chosen simply because there was a lot more video of him and he is more well known to the general audience? And in fact, Rogue stealing the powers of Ms. Marvel had significantly more impact and drove more story lines than both of these instances, combined. Rogue was a hardened villain and became a hero, at least in part, due to Carol's mind in her head. While coming out is a significant step in any real person's life, did it change what kind of hero either Bobby or Jean Paul was?

      good to know, when I heard that news I didn't even get mad, because i knew it was 100% bullshit. We have had decades of Captain America comics with his first person narration, he isn't a Hydra agent. He actually belives in personal responsibility and treating others fairly and good winning over evil.

  • @raybearoz
    @raybearoz 8 лет назад +3

    In the 80's the biggest would have been the Legacy Virus storyline... a direct parable to the AIDS epidemic, it was only impacting upon mutants, and therefore not a concern to the humans...
    I think the two biggest events that came to mind weren't even mentioned... Although "No More Mutants" was significant... it was actually spun off from the "Avengers Disassembled" storyline. Avengers have never been the same since then.
    But the biggest would have to be that sparked by the New Warriors combating Nitro in Stamford, leading to the most ambitious storyline, "Civil War". This drastically altered many established friendships and partnerships as they were all tested. This in turn then lead to the Initiative storylines, where many heroes and villains were forced to join super hero teams or face jail.

    Good list. How about the Thing staying behind on Battleworld after the first Secret Wars, Prince Namor destroys a world during the Time Runs Out story, Wolverine gets his memories back after House of M, Captain America "Hail Hydra," and the reveal that there is a super hero Illuminati which also leads to Planet Hulk/World War Hulk.

    House of M wasn't the biggest turning point. The Dark Phoenix Saga was. What you don't realize about Dark Phoenix was for a time it was the most popular comics story ever. Jean's sacrifice to save the universe from a corrupted entity showed real pathos and maturity in comics that simply were unheard of at the time. It was released quietly in 1979-1980 and the impact of the story made X-Men the highest selling and most popular comic book of the decade. Her death was felt throughout the x-verse and even if her resurrection and 2nd death ruined the impact and morals of that story, to this day the Marvel universe is still reeling from the ramifications of the Phoenix Force for it was instrumental in the AvX storyline and death of Prof X. House of M became nullified 6 or so years after the publication because mutants are back and in full force. However the biggest contribution DPS had towards comics and the industry on the whole was that it spawned the event comic as we know it and because of Jean's death and the reaction the fans had because of it, comics publishers began hyping the deaths and milestones of all their comics from then on. Death of Superman may have made the event comic blockbuster sellers, but If there wasn't a Phoenix Saga, there wouldn't be a Secret Wars, DC's Crisis, Infinity Gauntlet, Civil War or Death of Superman.

      Okay thats cute and all but this video isnt about which stories were the most influential, it was about how they changed their respective character, not the public affect. With that being said im not sure what they meant with the #1 pick, are they referring to how it affect scarlet witch or the universe as a whole because if its the latter then it dosent fit the criteria of the video.

      I understand from a business sense to want to capitalize on the popularity that the Phoenix Saga gave to Jean Grey. However, it seems they were only thinking in that one sense and not thinking about how it would impact the meaning of their stories.

    I know, I know this is an origin story so it doesn't really apply, but...James Howlett turning into Logan/Wolverine. Of course, he's had plenty of turning points, like when Magneto pulled out his adamantium, joining the Weapon X program, etc. BUT his origin story is probably the MOST defining major turning point in his life. It basically shaped him into who he is today. Although he didn't realize his backstory until after House of M.

      not really, like bobby drake being gay came from nowhere, thor becoming unworthy is a good concept, that they messed up royally by having jane foster thor comics be poorly written, and heavy handed in it's message, they had to change odin into a ranting and raving misogynist just to create drama.

    I'm sorry. The "Ice Man is gay" story-line was just an utter fuck up of a decent character. I am cool with north star, fine with shatter Star, even thought it was progressive when they made Colossus gay in the _Ultimates_ universe. But to just take an established character with a specific orientation for _years_ and turn him around for *no real reason* in main continuity.... that to me just made no sense. it felt very... _forced._

    • @Shenruss
      @Shenruss 7 лет назад +1

      Yeah, I could more get behind that reasoning, or say he's now more becoming more open to exploring his sexuality as he's gotten older. This, however, is the most blatant attempt at shoving acceptance into the audience faces I have ever seen. I'm all for diversifying stories and making characters grow, but playing with a persons sexuality and saying they "Repressed it" for over 50 years is just bad, lazy writing. I expect more from Marvel with characters we hold so dear.

    • @ianr.navahuber2195

      yeah i know. But it was Bendis. he could have AT LEAST make and attempt to show both icemen seen to be attratcted to both male and female during the runs of all new and uncanny, showing they are bi por pan but he went the easier route and sayin just because your past self is gay you are gay too, when it actually showed the past X men are completely different but similar people form the present x men

  • @jonmorris293
    @jonmorris293 8 лет назад +3

    2:10 I just think Bendis had no desire for X-titles so he threw that in as a F*** up of status quo. I know actual gay guys from comic cons who found this stupid & an unnecessary turn.

    • @ironlordshellhead3415
      @ironlordshellhead3415 8 лет назад +1

    Jean wasn't the Phoenix. The Phoenix took Jean's form and hid her away within a cocoon on the bottom of the ocean. She was later discovered by the Avengers & Fantastic Four who helped her awaken and remember who she was. She then helped form the original X-Factor with the founding members of the X-Men.. This has not be retconned out.

    you need to pay attention to comics. Mutants did recover from "No More Mutants", at the end of Avengers vs X-Men, Wanda and Hope Summers used their combined powers with a little phoenix force...to bring mutants back from the brink of extinction with new mutants popping up by the millions instantly. though they are on the brink again with the Inhuman terrigan mist which makes new Inhumans caught in it but kills mutants also caught with Mpox....also making every mutant steril
